Food was good and the waitress was nice and happy. Beer and spirits were good. You need to experience it at least once!

The potato leek hand pie was delicious and so were the Che Chori veggie Shepard's Pie Empanadas. We of course had to try as many of the Irish specialty drinks including the SNUG Butter Beer with SHANKEYS WHIP, Ginger Beer and Vanilla Cream. We had never tried Shankey's before but immediately picked up a bottle at Total Wine with If you LOVE Ginger Beer definitely try the Irish Mule S9. We also enjoyed the BELFAST COFFEE made with Pangur Potin, Shuv Cold Brew, Simple, Vanilla Cream and Cardamon. Snug Whiskey Fest is coming! May 15-17, 2026. Exclusive Tastings, TWO Brand Expo events, Festival Bottle Releases. Snug Whiskey Fest is Brand Storytelling, One Drop at a Time.

They had the door open, which was letting in the fresh almost-spring air.) Drinks are pretty much all they have at Snug, to be honest. Don't visit thinking you're going to find a meal, because they don't have a lot of food beyond locally made hand pies and empanadas, a grazing board, and something called Snug Nuts. (Which brings to mind certain ... images.) I didn't get any food, just a Road & Coke, which is a whiskey with a Coke and lime, similar to a Cuba libre, although a Cuba uses rum. It was delicious, but a little light on the booze. It was only $5 and change, though, so it's kind of like what do you expect, really. It was a nice drink to sip slowly while I sat in the small, cozy bar. Speaking of bar aesthetics: Snug lives up to its name. It's tiny and dark but inviting. It feels like stepping into a hug. A hug that can also provide you with copious amounts of Irish whiskey, which sounds like the best kind of hug, to me.

Our waitress came by and we ordered a beer and an iced tea. I ordered an unsweetened iced tea which I did not drink, it was not plain unsweetened tea. Seemed like it had a lot of artificial lemon in it, not sure, but I know I did not like it. The hubby had a Corona and our friend had a pitcher of beer. We perused the menus and it did take a good while for the waitress to come back and take the order. The hubby ordered a hamburger and fries and our friend had the buffalo chicken wrap and I ordered the twice baked tater skins. The husband said his fries were cold and the burger looked like a frozen patty as it was perfectly formed and it was just ok. I may have ordered the wrong dish myself as I did not care for the potato cheese mixture that was inside so I ended up stripping all the insides out and just ate the skins themselves. Husband had to flag down the waitress to get the bill and keep in mind that they were not busy. It is a typical bar atmosphere in here with TVs all around the perimeter. We were sitting at a high-top table but they had both low and high.

Finally made it in here, this has been on my list for quite a while. The interior is quite eclectic…read morewith tons of art pieces covering every inch of the walls in here. Love it. Especially the wall of test tubes with dried and artificial flowers. Plenty to look at and keep you entertained. We were greeted right away and invited to pick a spot we'd like to sit at. Our server Joni stopped by immediately. She took great care of us, answered our questions regarding the menu and brought us everything we needed. It is a skill to be so attentive without hovering. After a little difficulty deciding what we would like to eat, I settled on the straw-basil mimosa and the double decker BLT. My friend opted for the blueberry muffin mimosa and the quiche of the day. The mimosas were quite tasty I must say, too bad I had to drive or else I might have gotten another. The double decker BLT was huge. I had to eat it in installments. Ate the top half in the restaurant and devoured the bottom half later in the day. My friend loved her meal also and we will surely be back for more.

The pros are the friendly staff, the cool art on the walls (tons to look at!) and some creative menu options/deals like a weekday $13 lunch deal or $50 three course meal for 2. The downsides- we sat by the door and it was quite cold, I think it's because we were by the door/a drafty window but I noticed space heaters throughout the space. My husband and I both ordered the BLT and while it was good, it wasn't special- the Roma tomato were small coin-sized slices and the romaine lettuce was the yellow, small inside pieces. I thought this sandwich would be a lot better with a thick sweet tomato slice and leafy green lettuce. For some reason, the fries and breakfast potatoes were taking a long time to come out of the kitchen. Our server apologized, but they came out after the rest of the meal and I overheard a server telling the next table it would be at least 30 mins for another order to come out. When they came out, they were cold. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing (the breakfast plate that the folks next to us had looked good) but I left a bit disappointed in my meal. Overall good option to visit in the Garfield Park neighborhood and hopefully just caught them on an off day with the food!
