I didn't want to do this yelp thing but since talking with a couple of people and urged to do it over my transaction in this store I'm gonna give this a try. This will probably be my only review. So here we go..... The thrifty hippy a thrift store for sure but beware, the times they are open are random. I was told my Monique that it's only a three person staff so they can't be open all the time. Ok, that's fine but if you are a store on Petaluma Blvd wouldn't you want to be open as much as possible. This trip was my fourth time going there. And only my second time actually in the store. I collect records so I figured since it's labeled as a thrift store to check it out. The first time I wasn't wowed. The two records I found then I paid a decent price. The next time I went they were closed the sign on the door says "we open at 11 sometimes noon," ok it was eleven when I got there so I went on my way. This past Wednesday I went and it was about four I the after noon, they were closed. No closed sign or reason why. I text the number no answer and I called the number, as the sign said you can do, no answer. So I went on my way again. Yesterday, Thursday, I got a call from Monique at around noon. Monique is great to work with me he understood that I was a little upset that there was nothing saying that they were closed. But someone made a yelp review on here about the thrifty happy that they went to the store they were closed they text they called no answer, so I got to hear about that from Monique. Right there I felt that was a little unprofessional. You can ask me if I made a yelp review I say no don't go belittling another potential customer about their yelp review to a potential customer. She gave me a $10 gift certificate which I thought was awesome for my inconvenience of the store not being open because they were doing repairs. I went into the store yesterday afternoon I found six records. Upon getting up to the counter instead of there being just a flat pricing since it is a thrift store The guy that was running the counter proceeded to go through every record grading them himself and checking online for prices, to me for being a thrift store I should not have to pay record store prices for a record, one of the records he judged as being eight dollars I looked up myself on Discogs.com the record for pricing. I don't know what he was using for pricing for his on his phone but I do know that his prices were first labeled in euros and not US dollars. And is soon as I pointed out to him that you record was going for two dollars on Discogs he proceeded to ask me what shipping cost was, I didn't feel that the shipping cost had anything to do with the price of a record. The cost of the record is the cost of the record the shipping cost is extra, but he decided to tell me know because you have to pay for it get shipped to you so that's an added cost on the record. I was standing right in front of them why should I pay the shipping charge on top of the cost of the record? One of the records he price to eight dollars because of the sleeve was in excellent condition for the record itself was maybe good to very good. I'm not buying for a sleeve I'm buying to buy the record to listen to. And again I had to listen from him about the yelp review that someone else put up. He sat there and belittled trying to insinuate that I was the one that put the yelp review up. Once a customer tells you know don't keep going on about it. Reading the other reviews that have been put up here I am betting that Adam a. Will probably be commenting on this about how there a mom-and-pop shop in how the giveaway kids clothes for free. Probably about how I have not tried to talk with them to resolve this issue. I tried negotiating he dropped his price two dollars on two records. I text Monique again last night, no reply. And still no reply in twenty hours. I'm sure if I read a text about my business saying I didn't have a good experience I would have text back right away. Your labeled as a thrift store I'm going in there expecting thrift store prices I can go to Goodwill and get a record for two dollars I walk in there knowing it's going to be for two dollars if I'm going to pay record store prices I'm going to a record store probably will not be going back to thrifty hippy. If you are looking for records go to the last record store in Santa Rosa or goodwill. The only reason they are getting two stars is because Monique made the attempt to remedy the situation and get me back in. But the dread head guy just pushed me away. read more

I highly recommend this shop to anyone and everyone that can check it out! I have been to Petaluma countless times and for some reason I never visited this little jewel until today. I was blown away by all the amazing items in the shop. The owner that I met was so incredibly nice and made me feel very welcome. The prices are ridiculously low and the merchandise is clean and good quality. I ended up purchasing one of the tapestries, some handmade and vintage jewelry, and boots and a jacket for my sister and mom. I will definitely be coming back for more, this shop is truly one of the best thrift stores I have ever seen and the quality of service can't be beat. One of my favorite thrift stores in the area! Great selection of vintage clothing, jewelry, unique furniture....something for everyone! Monique and Sam provided exceptional customer service. Very clean and well organized. There's a separate room with free children's clothing, really nice to see a small business giving back to the community. This review is about the record section only. The records are insanely overpriced, both very common "Goodwill type" stuff (i.e. 60's comedy albums, George Benson, Cat Stevens, etc., for up to $28), as well as stuff that the owner deems rare ($60 to a $100 or more, price "not negotiable."). The owner is kind of hard to figure out. He lays a pretty heavy pseudo hippy "schtick" on you when you walk in, assuring you that prices are "negotiable," maybe a back-handed apology for the high prices. Also, he's not very knowledgeable about music (musical genres are haphazardly organized and poorly priced, irrespective of everything being overpriced). He seems to price things based upon Ebay prices rather than "fair value." When I questioned him about his high prices, his fall back position was that "someone will eventually pay his price." He told me that he had a woman customer who will buy all of the Beatles stuff he can get, regardless of the price he charges. However, my main gripe with this guy is that, with a little bit more knowledge about music and "fair" prices, he could provide a service to the Petaluma community. When my two sons were teenagers in Petaluma, they could explore music and records "on a budget" at the Vinyl Planet. They could buy Graham Parker, Blondie, Sparks, etc. for under $5. It would be nice if Petaluma had a store like this. This guy is missing a great opportunity. read more

I visited this business AGAIN today during the business hours as posted on Yelp. It had a sign on the door stating that it would be closed over Mother's Day weekend but would resume business on Tuesday 5/14 (today). It was still not open. Not cool and again, a waste of time. read more

I will never again support this business. Sam, the owner, is completely rude. The couple of times that I have been in the store he was condescending and spoke to me as if I was a child. I bought a vintage looking butane lighter (that was actually new) and when I brought it back to him after it didn't work, he claimed that he had warned me that it wouldn't work and that he "thought I collected them." He had never warned me about the lighter possibly not working, and I had never mentioned that I planned on not using the lighter. Not to mention the store is a complete rip-off. $14 for a used tshirt? No thanks! The owner needs to adjust his prices, along with his customer service skills. read more

Great family owned store full of neat finds in great condition! Hands down one of the coolest thrift stores I've ever been to and one of my favorite places to go thrift shopping at! Great shop. Sam fulfilled a 15(?) year dream at a crazy good price. I've been looking for a midrange for my vintage ads l810 speakers to replace the damaged one. They are nary on impossible to find. A complete pair still costs a lot of money. My son was visiting town and saw them. Sam gave me a great price on the pair he sold me, I mean great. It was clear he knew how much they were worth(that's his business after all) but sold them to me at a third of the average asking price. He even helped me get them to my car. By the way, in addition to having all types of cool vintage stuff, clothing, furniture, you name it, he always had good stereo equipment at great prices. The variety is pretty amazing but it's not just a collection of junk. This type of operation is pretty rare these days. It's well curated, varied and won't break the bank. The only thing that bums me out is I now have to rebalance my surround sound because these speakers are performing way better than my old l810's. Check it out! read more

can't get over this place! visited once on my last trip to downtown petaluma, and was very pleasantly surprised. they have a free trade room in the back where i found a few items for each of my kids, ages 7, 10 and 3 mos. then i felt guilty i wouldn't be able to 'trade', as i don't get to petaluma often, so found a few other great items--very inexpensive--in the regular store. thanks for operating such a fabulous establishment. it makes so much sense when our kids wear these items once or twice, and then grow out of them!! read more

I love this little mom-and-pop store; it's a Petaluma GEM! I've been in multiple times and each time I find something new and original to buy. The owners are awesome people, so welcoming and helpful. They are super knowledgeable about all the antiques and clothing and are very fair when it comes to pricing. And I absolutely LOVE the free kids section. I'm expecting my first little baby girl and I've found some really nice clothes and baby gear there for FREE!! And these baby clothes are almost new because let's be honest babies grow so fast this stuff can only be lightly used. Where else do you find a resource like that anymore?!?! It's really special. Now I know exactly where I'll be donating all my baby's outgrown clothes. No more "goodwill" donations. I'd much rather pass on the Love to other mommies. Thanks Thrifty Hippy! i have been here around 4 times now and i love it! the first time i came here was mother's day and i had my baby and husband with me. the guy is very kind and gave me a free top along with my purchase and said it was free for me since it was mother's day. today i came back looking for furniture and he pointed me to the room with free children's stuff! always a pleasant experience coming here. read more
