We came up for Memorial Weekend and I was dying to have some fresh oysters. We didn't really know where to turn on our way to our dinner reservation (a place that doesn't sell oysters), so we decided to look up some spots. We found Tide's Oyster Co & decided to give it a whirl. We pulled into the parking lot to kind of a dumpy looking exterior. I was little on edge as to how fresh the oysters could be when the exterior looked like it had seen better days. We walked into the restaurant and it, too, was super outdated. It also smelled like a toilet bowl. Knowing my husband and I, we decided that we can't judge a book by its cover and decided to stay. The waitress was super nice and quickly came by to take our order. I am a Coca Cola expert and their Coke was actually pretty refreshing and fresh! I was pleasantly surprised after I took my first sip. We quickly placed an order for a dozen oysters, 6 raw and 6 seasonal oysters. The oysters were massive and fresh! We drove head first into the raw ones before the other ones came out and loved every minute. We got the seasonal oysters, which consisted of a lemon butter sauce and that was even better. This is purely a local watering hole, not for tourists. We stopped in on our way back to our hotel from another spot from dinner. Just to get a drink. This restaurant has seen better days. The ambiance is worn down, SMELLS like a urinal cake, and I did not want to order anything that didn't come pre-bottled for sanitary reasons. The service was friendly and prompt, no complaints there. Really liked this place because the environment was a little be beachy a little bit dive (in a good way). I would guess the bar does mostly drinks but they had a nice menu for oysters and some really good appetizers. So the came out and started off with the fryer is down. Great way to start. I had 12 oysters on the half shell Claire started with a pretzel with "Beer Cheese" Well the oysters were good. The giant pretzel was 2 pretzel buns and the beer cheese tasted just like the cheese sauce from Arby's. I got Grilled Monk Fish with red beans and rice and coleslaw. Old Florida restaurant!!!!! I love it . If you are looking for a new, bright and shiney place don't go. If you want a great old school beach bar, this is it. We have eaten here 3 times in the past month. Oysters on the half shell were spot on. Bacon wrapped scallops delish. Fried shrimp with beans and rice and fresh veggies wonderful. Blackened Mahi platter fresh and cooked perfectly. Everything we've had has been great. Service is friendly, kind of like your local bar. Not a tourist kind of place. After walking on the beach Sunday night, we wanted to get something to eat. Hubs was craving oysters, and since this restaurant has "oyster" in its name, we decided to try The Tides Oyster Co. Unfortunately, though, the kitchen had closed about 30 minutes prior, at 9pm, so we would not be dining here on this night. However, since we were already seated at the bar, we ordered a couple of beers before heading off to find food elsewhere. Our bartender was quite affable and commented on my Bucs shirt. He was also a fan, and we lamented about our loss to the Rams earlier that day. The ambiance here was very casual & low-key with lots of wood and a large display of framed caricature art on the walls. Our beers were cold & tasty. If we hadn't been so hungry, we definitely would've lingered longer. I'm looking forward to returning for a meal on a future visit to St Augustine. read more

I tried Tides Oyster Co. & Grill on date night. My boyfriend loves oysters and had seen the spot so we tried them out. Happy hour drink specials included beer, wine and well liquor. I went for the house cabernet for $5 a glass. It was pretty good for house wine. My boyfriend had draft beer. Our server "Q" was a delight. She was friendly and attentive. My boyfriend ordered the oysters on the half shell and I ordered the char-grilled oysters. I am not a fan of raw seafood. My oysters were deliscious! Seasoned well and served hot just like I like them with no gritty taste! We also had stuffed mushrooms which were delicious! Just ordered a dozen Oysters. They smelled bad and looked bad. Chose not to eat them. Ordered wings and fish sandwich instead. Service was great. One thing to remember is Florida water stinks and the drinks are mixed from the bar gin with Florida water. Example. Vodka cranberry is from the gun. Came here on a Wednesday night with family while visiting and the parking lot was packed. We thought "oh nice, must mean this place is super good!" Do you know what it really meant? Karaoke night. I, at 29, and my brother, at 31, were definitely the youngest people in this place - excluding the servers. Now I'm not knocking it at all; it was a super entertaining night! And the place was packed full of patrons, so kudos to them for getting crowds in and serving up lots of food and fun. I got the stuffed shrimp which were delicious. My side of fries were good as well. My brother and stepmom got the fried shrimp which they believed to be a bit salty. My dad got the steamed bucket of oysters, and most weren't steamed enough; he was having a difficult time opening them with the provided shucker. Luckily our server noticed and offered to have them steam the oysters some more, which definitely helped. I don't know how the older crowd here (90%) would've been able to open those oysters. Just stick to ordering them on the half shell if you get them. Overall though, I enjoyed my meal and my experience here. Just know what you're in for, especially if you come on a Wednesday night :) And one final thing - we didn't order burgers, but they looked SO GOOD that we all wish we did. I had high hopes for this place. There was no hostess. It took a while to be greeted. Ordered the seafood platter, grilled, which as supposed to come with oysters. There were none. The fish was super oily and not edible. The shrimp and scallops were over seasoned and too salty to palate. The salad was.... well a typical garden salad. Here's the run down. Food was average, atmosphere was interesting. Food 3/5: Wasn't bad, seasoned shrimp well. Service 4/5: the waiter was very kind. Just seemed overworked and had to dealt with drunk bozos. Ambiance 1/5: Was pleasantly greeted by a group of drunk old men who told us to "just find a seat" despite the sign saying to wait. First thing we see pulling in the parking lot is the kitchen door wide open(I hate to think that flies are all over the stinky place) The door was still locked and a guy came and opened it and stormed off leaving us to wait to be seated. This place is pretty much seat yourself, local hangout with a homey atmosphere. They have some special including happy hour so don't forget to ask about that.
