Drove past this location many times before the new owners arrived, but never blinked. After reading some of the reviews here and seeing the bustling people while driving by, we decided to try it out even though the line looked somewhat long. We are Very happy to have waited (about 20-30 minutes on a late Saturday morning) and will be regulars here as long as the quality is maintained. The place is small, thus the wait, but this is one time we felt it was worth it. The food is made from scratch and has its own flare which is definitely not going to be like any of the commercialized restaurants in the area. This is Exactly why we love the place. The biscuits are crispy on the top and bottom, but soft and warm in the middle. They are the size of two regular ones put together and the gravy on top just added to the flavor. We also tried the banana nut pancakes which were like dessert, but not too sweet and the core base was essentially perfect. The corn beef hash is Not the typical kind people mix up from a can. Be prepared for chunks of tasty corn beef along with cut potatoes in a dark sauce. I've not had it prepared this way before and loved the change. I Must talk about the coffee too. Although it is not a fru-fru drink, it is pure diner-style coffee with the taste of Coffee, Not just flavored water. I think, but am unsure if they used filtered or RO water, but it tastes like it and makes all the difference. It's these little things which make a place like this Great instead of just good. We spoke with the owner James and he is one of the main reasons this place is flourishing as is for the opening. We suggested if he maintains this quality and doesn't cut corners down the road, we will continue to be loyal customers and be willing to support in any way we can. We listened to him let others know up front there would be a wait, but he suggested shopping, or a walk to sight-see in lieu of waiting in line. He seems like a top notch owner who will pay attention to detail and customers to ensure a fair and quality made experience. I'd say try this place out without hesitation. If waiting for food makes the grouch come out, it may not be your thing, but my husband and daughter both agree it's delicious and we are already planning our next weekend meal to bring my mom. The food is great but unfortunately the service is terrible. For example (I have a couple), a few weeks ago I went in and after we ordered our food we waited an hour without anyone coming to check on us or tell us what was going on, this is a normal occurrence at their restaurant so we figured it was just busy as it always is, suddenly we saw several tables who came in after us get their food and the server approached us to say he lost our order. They apologized for wasting an hour of our day by giving us a hefty 10% discount off our order. This week on Sunday I called at 1pm to reserve a table. They told me they close at 2pm and wouldn't put me on the waitlist because they stop seating at 1:40pm but to come in asap and they'll try to seat me. I said it's a 15 minute drive for me and they said that's okay. Well I got there at 1:25pm and was told it's too late to get served. I told them I called and they said "okay what's the name?" (Same lady I talked to when I called). I said "I talked to you on the phone and you told me to come in and you would try to seat me." She said "we stop seating at 1:30." (It was 1:25pm and I had been told 1:40pm on the phone). Very rude and again a waste of time. My husband and I were regulars at this restaurant but sadly we won't be returning. read more

While visiting we decided to try the tipsy Biscuit so glad I took the advise from previous reviews and made reservations it's a small quaint restaurant that's fills up fast. All our food was delicious I had a difficult time trying to decide opted for the avocado toast it was very good. I've been here before and had a great experience. Today, was the most unwelcoming experience I have had at a restaurant ever. First of all we had a 30 min wait, which no problem this is a popular joint. But they seat people who had no reservation and came after us , seat them before us. The lady who sat us down threw our silverware on the table, didn't set it down we observed her doing for everyone else. Second we had a male waiter who didn't get our drink orders until 20 minutes after we were seated. I understand a busy work environment but the priority of his duties were just awful. I ordered chicken and waffles and asked for the savory and sweet, I only got both because the waiter said that it would be free of charge. A chunky big white girl with glasses and freckles came out with my strawberry waffle, picked it up with her hands(yes touched my food for no reason), and threw it on the table. Literally. Then said "oh yea and you'll be charged extra for this" I politely said I won't be paying for it after you touched it. I also had to ask for my honey thyme drizzle because it didn't come with my meal as listed. And she just gave me the nastiest looks and stormed to the back talking very rudely among her staff. I did speak with the manager about her behavior but it didn't seem like it was taken very seriously. My table was never rude or gave them a reason to treat us how they did. The male waiter did try to make up for the ignorant big girl who touched my waffle which was appreciated. I hope they change their attitudes towards everyone who comes into their establishment because it's such a fun and tasty place. It doesn't deserve to have workers like that tarnish it's name. Considering this restaurant was open on a Sunday and looked quite popular as it was waitlisted and they called you on your phone when one seating opened up we assumed it was good. Based on reviews as well. However, that was not the case. Once seated we had three wait staff ask us about our drink orders, which for the table of two of us, took 20 minutes before they finally arrived. Then there was the wait time to order the food and receive. It was if we were in the "no zone". People came in well after us, seated, served and left before we finally ordered. As for the food, it took another 30 minutes and when it finally arrived at the table was luke warm as if it had been sitting for awhile. The food itself was mediocre and heavily salted but that seemed to be the case for most restaurants in Indiana that we visited. As for the ambiance, it's a quaint little place and has both indoor and outdoor seating. I can't say I would return but if you're looking for an open restaurant on a Sunday, this the place for you. read more

I stopped in this little breakfast cafe and fell in love immediately. The owner's attention to detail in decor proved to be true to the presentation and incredible flavor of food. It was amazing! I recently hosted a shower for my daughter and requested that it be catered by Tipsy Biscuit. From beginning to end, James took great care in meeting my needs, as well as anticipating my guests needs. My friends and family are foodies and I never received such compliments for one of my events. I can't recommend The Tipsy Biscuit enough!!! They are my new go to caterer!! I don't ever want to be a Karen towards restaurants or small businesses, but after the way we were treated at brunch this morning I have to say something. We've been here twice now. The first time, everything was amazing. We had little to no wait and everything came out quickly. And the food is great! That was not at all the case this time. The food was still fine, on par with what we had before. We called at 9:45 and were told there would be an hour wait. So we joined the waitlist, and come 11:30, finally got a seat. We were looking at the drink menu (on the same side of the menu as the lunch options) and a random waitress (not ours) came up and said "sorry, we don't serve lunch on the weekends" in a snippy tone. Strike one. Then...It took another 20 minutes to get our drinks, another almost 45 minutes to get our food, and then we got our second round of drinks about 10 minutes before we were going to leave. Needless to say, it was super slow. Strike two. What really did it for us was after we got our checke. We were talking about our bills and my friend mentioned how it's crazy they're charging 12% in taxes (5% Covid Surcharge plus 7% sales tax) and the lady at the counter chimed in and said "If it's an issue, you don't need to come back" Strike three ‍ Don't worry -- we won't!! Finally tried this for the 1st time since it opened. I work on the Riverwalk nearby and decided to take myself to lunch there. I have an hour lunch and was there, ate while savoring and taking my time, and back within about 35 minutes. That is a rarity. I am a new fan. The strawberry waffle was life-changing! I also had a half order of biscuits and gravy, all made fresh in-house and that was fabulous too. Went back to work to highly recommend it to everyone. read more

I ordered a guacamole toast and was not impressed. I went back a year later because my friend wanted brunch from there. After an hour of waiting in line the server told me they couldn't seat us because all the tables are full and they were going to close in 1 hour. Which they would of told us that before making me waste 1 hour. The only reason people hype this place is because they serve alcohol for breakfast. We went to this establishment at around 10:30 this morning (Sunday). We had a 35 minute wait but it was worth it! Our waitress was friendly and willing to answer all the questions we had. The food was delicious! I had an egg with bacon and a biscuit. The biscuit was fantastic! I usually put butter and jam on a biscuit, not this time. Expect a wait because this place has something new to Elkhart. Simply incredible hand crafted breakfast. I tried the home made banana bread french toast with a side order of their corned beef hash and I was absolutely astounded. The service was outstanding and the coffee compliments of the Electric Brew in Elkhart was readily flowing. The only con I could see is the place is small with limited seating options and I can see long waits becoming pretty common place. But other than that everything was second to none. Not a great first impression! They were very rude and did not greet us when we walked in. All the seats were taken and as we waited, a man from the back cooking the food looked our way and told us we had to have masks on to be in the building. He did not have a mask on and either did anyone else in the building besides the lady at the cash register. It was a 45 minute wait. We have no issues wearing a mask when required but there is no need to be rude. We will NOT be coming back. read more

I was very excited to try The Tipsy Biscuit. My first impression was that it was very busy. There were people waiting outside. My friend and I peeked inside and were offered seats at the bar area. We weren't greeted right away but got water and coffee after about 10 minutes. The menu was unique and friendly to the gluten free , keto, vegetarian crowds out there. It also had some twists on the traditional dishes. I ordered eggs, potatoes and bacon. It was a modest serving and delicious flavors. The prices were reasonable. I'm not sure if I'll return. One of the severs was a little snippy with me when I asked for more toast. My meal came with only 1 piece and that wasn't clear on the menu. Definitely a hipster place more than a family friendly breakfast joint like that restaurant that was there prior. read more

i've heard about this place for a while now. The reviews are good and I wanted to try it. I went this morning for the first time. For the recommendations, I made a reservation a couple days before. First off, the reservation is highly recommended. I have been to this location when previously owned by others. It was nothing special and I was not in a hurry to go to the tipsy biscuit. I was wrong. We were seated promptly and upon looking at the menu realized that this was not a greasy spoon. This was an upscale breakfast menu with many options. Our table had a breakfast scramble with toast and a strawberry waffle. The individual with the waffle said it was a very tasty waffle, not your typical waffle batter. As for the scramble, it was great. The ingredients were fresh, a home fries or cooked crispy and everything together was very tasty. With the scramble, I had my choice of sides. I was going to avoid the toast because I did not want simply bread out of the bag thrown in the toaster. I was told the bread was closer to sourdough. While it was a white bread, it did have a rustic crust and was toasted perfectly. The little touches like bakery bread make this a great spot. While it took me a couple years to try it, I will be back next week when I have family in town because it was that good. I have gone on and on about the food however, the service was also spot on. I had heard the hype and got there early enough to get a table with no wait. We did wait then for our order to be taken as they were full. We waited far longer than expected given the food we ordered. The biscuits were over done unfortunately. One that came by itself and another that was a breakfast sandwich were both over worked. Not goodfor a biscuit place. The biscuits that were under the gravy were what was expected. Our sausage was over cooked as well. We have tried many places in Elkhart, Mishawaka and Granger for Breakfast and was waiting for the opening of the Tipsy Biscuit. A little pricey for breakfast but it's worth it! We've been to other places that items are around the same price but not worth it! I am not one to make a big deal out of food at a restaurant but after having the biscuits and gravy...WOW! My hubby and I go out on Saturday morning only but I don't know if I can wait til next weekend to have their southern biscuits and gravy! Taste just like moms! Have you had a biscuit that isnt done and kind of mushy in the middle? You won't get that here! Nice and fluffy without that! Big biscuits! The only complaint is...I only ordered a half an order lol. I love the potatoes... I am not one to clean my plate but Not one drop of biscuits and gravy was left or potatoes! Kept me full til dinner! Everything was great, food and workers. Not impressed at all. Food wasn't even average and unless you really like Cumin, don't order the Bloody Mary. I took one sip and passed. I would have thought the waitress or manager would have inquired as to why I hadn't touched it, but nope even though I had it setting on the edge of the table. Ate here twice now. Carry out lunch was great. Portions were big and everything had tons of flavor. Breakfast was even better! Everything had extra flavor, vanilla in the pancakes, top notch sausage, the potatoes and something called a "tot" were way above average too. We had a little wait due to COVID shutting down half the tables, but it was worth it. These guys need to figure out some outdoor seating so they can really rock! Glad we found them! I heard mixed reviews about the Tipsy Biscuit, some saying the service was terrible and and others saying the food was great. First impression are key, when I first walked in the atmosphere was buzzing and friendly. I encountered a situation where an elderly man sat himself at a open table and instead of the employees kicking him out the table, they sat them and welcomed them, which was really nice of them. When we sat down we probably got 1 minute to decide what we wanted to drink which felt pretty rushed. This was our first time there and it just felt like when ordering food it was like they were just wanting to give us food and then have us leave. As for the food, we got the breakfast sampler, which was not the best. The eggs were bland, home fries were burnt (not very edible). The sausage had too much spice, then ham was bland/ over cooked. The biscuits and gravy was okay, the taste got overwhelming at one point. The pancakes were probably the best thing, very fluffy and light. Over all pancakes were delicious. Let me start by saying BEST BISCUITS I'VE EVER HAD. I CRAVE them. They are big, moist and soooo yummy. We also had a basic egg and bacon breakfast and the breakfast burrito which were delicious. I'm giving 3/5 stars because of the service... My husband and I went here on a Saturday afternoon, not busy at all, multiple open tables and staff standing behind the bar... Front door says "please wait to be seated" but we weren't greeted, had to speak up to get our names on a waitlist. We were finally seated, ordered coffee and never got it however, they took it off the bill with no issue. We were sat, ordered drinks then food, received the food and we were never checked on again until check was delivered. This is a new restaurant, so maybe inexperienced staff? My husband and I will definitely be going back because the food was amazing, hopeful for better service next time. Will happily update review if that's the case :) read more
