Went for a girls brunch with my mom and daughter to Toasty Hot Spot in Columbia and the food was good. The sausage quesadilla with breakfast potatoes was hot, cheesy, filling, and had plenty of flavor. The French toast topped with crushed Oreos was the indulgent moment of the meal. Sweet, rich, and definitely something to order when you've decided calories are simply not attending brunch that day. The bacon was cooked nicely, and the potatoes were seasoned well. Mom. tried the fall flavor of Pumpkin Spice Martini, which was creamy, smooth, and very fall-forward. It almost drinks like dessert, so if you love pumpkin spice, this is probably your lane. The restaurant itself is pretty small, so seating feels a little tight when it's busy. Customer service was okay. Stopped by The Toasty Hot Spot and had a great experience overall. The chicken and waffle weekly special looked great and was well done, though it leaned just a tad too sweet for my taste. On the other hand, the Gullah Grits was absolutely impeccable--rich, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. I was so hungry that I forgot to take pictures! First time here and we were very impressed! My party of three ordered the Slammin Burrito, the Super Slammer, and the Sausage Gravy Biscuit. Everything was cooked to order, well seasoned, and served hot, exactly how you want it. Our waitress was incredibly kind and helpful, which made the experience even better. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the establishment was clean and welcoming. The only downsides were that the dining area is a bit small. We had three people at a table and it felt a little tight and parking is metered. That said, those minor inconveniences won't stop us from coming back. My first time here, the ambiance was nice, the space is super small. The flavor on the snapper was good. However for the price I expected more than a little bit of grits. I had the seafood skillet it came with snapper cooked to perfection four baby shrimp on a small bed of grits for $25, my daughter had eggs bacon and pancakes 1 patron drink and 1 Hennessy mixed drink. The total for two people $75. I barely drank the drink and I boxed the food after taking 2 bites of the snapper and 1 spoon of the grits. They received 3 stars for the ambiance. read more

My wife and I recently visited and unfortunately did not have a good experience. I ordered the Low Country Gullah Grits, and my wife ordered the Shrimp and Crab Omelette. The biggest issue was that the crab meat in the omelette still contained shell pieces, which made it unpleasant to eat. The service was also disappointing. Our waiter was rude and only interacted with us when it was time to take our order. There was very little customer service or hospitality throughout our visit. To make matters worse, plates were picked up while we were still eating without so much as an "excuse me" or acknowledgment. Overall, the food and service did not meet our expectations. The other morning my wife and I were looking for a downtown breakfast place and a Yelp search helped us find The Toasty Hotspot (THS). There are two doors into this restaurant, one for sit down dining, and one for takeout. We were greeted warmly at the door and shown to a table. The decore includes some interesting swirling pattern wall paint and some rather strange lighted posters announcing " The Toasty Spot as your local brunch dealer." Interesting! The THS has two rather extensive menus, one for breakfast and one for brunch & lunch. My only complaint about the menus is the small type--hard on the eyes. Aside from some build your own omelette and biscuit options, there are sunrise platters, signature breakfast, and gourmet delight options. There's a lot of variety here and some interesting offerings, including liver pudding as a side. A most interesting breakfast menu indeed. My wife ordered French toast, coffee, potatoes, and water, and I went out on a limb for vegan meat, pancakes, cheesy grits, coffee and water. The vegan meat turned out to be a spicy and very tasty bean burger, definitely made in house. It was a nice salty complement to the pancakes, which I would say were average. They weren't overly thick or fluffy, but they weren't dry and they had a decent flavor. I would recommend the grits. My wife reported about the same for her French toast. Both agreed that the coffee was good and the waters were generous! Our server, Journey, was super friendly. My wife said it was OK, but she didn't have to go back, but I kind of disagree. The food was good and very flavorful however the presentation needs a little bit of work. There was no wow factor HOWEVER the flavor is the saving grace. We ordered the Gullah grits which had no price next to it so we had no idea it was going to be $22. I also ordered the Southern Breakfast as well and the eggs were cooked like I was at home back in the day. The bacon was okay, the French toast was good. Again the flavor was the saving grace. Most places I go to you have to add salt or/and pepper to the eggs but these eggs were seasoned. I fully believe if someone took a little more time in the presentation of the plates, they're going to boom even more. I also got the homemade lemonade. First, let me start off by saying it is a cute little spot. Inside seating is limited, and there are approximately two tables outside. Customer service is pretty good as well. You are able to call in and pick up or just walk in and order.    I've been here twice, and it has been a miss for me both times. The first time I gave them a pass, I figured I didn't quite order what was fitting for me. I ordered the original patty melt with tots. It was underwhelming. The bread, meat, flavor, onions, or toasty sauce didn't come together for me. Again, I figured I just did not order the right thing for me.    The second time around, I ordered the pancake breakfast, which according to the menu included 3 buttermilk pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. After looking at their Instagram page and seeing the red velvet pancake, I was very secure in my choice. Until I got into my car and opened my box. I was so confused that I had to look around, like, did I just come out of the hospital cafeteria with this plate?   The pancakes were the microwave pancakes in the pack. The bacon had to be the thinnest, skinniest bacon I've seen in a long time or ever, and the eggs, well, they were just eggs and were also on the sleek cafeteria side. There were only 3 people in the space other than the staff and the location felt packed, like we wanted to leave just to have our own space. . I also put in a whole parking meter of quarters just to turn around and have to leave. My hubby and I went to The Toasty Hot Spot yesterday. I'm always excited to try new locations! Unfortunately, I didn't get pics, but I must say, the interior of the restaurant was adorbs! The hanging heart shaped balloons were so cute for Valentines Day coming up. Now for the positives. Our server, she was very sweet and so polite. The grits were creamy and delicious. The potatoes, were crispy and tasted wonderful, in fact I had a hard time keeping my husband's fork out of the potatoes. Unfortunately, now the negatives. All of the food was not hot. It was luke warm, semi room temp. The scrambled eggs tasted like runny hotel eggs. Right after hubby and I came in, the restaurant became very busy. Out of the 3 girls I saw in the business, Our server seemed to be the only one working, unless she ordered someone else to run out a plate or some drinks for her. Due to the exquisite cuisine it was packed. Had I not eaten at the bar we may have had a 30 minute wait. There were too many great options to chose from but we settled on the LowdownGullah crab,shrimp and grits plate, and I had the Red fish, shrimp and grits. The food was seasoned to perfection. The food was amazing, I forgot to get a picture. The building very small, me and my husband thought we were going to eat in, until we got there. It's more of a takeout. It was a Saturday when we visited, and they were very very very busy. I seen some hostile door dasher but the owner handled them with grace, no matter how nasty, rude, loud and obnoxious this driver was being to her. Very good breakfast fare prepared by a friendly competent staff. Not much seating so take-out is recommended. We had a grits bowl that was tasty and filling on a wet November morning. Added the French toast side, both were good sized portions using fresh ingredients. Nice decor and atmosphere, felt like family was preparing the meal for us in a home kitchen. Parking was easy since it was 10 am and after the breakfast rush. Prices were average for breakfast so the things I liked were non-greasy, fresh ingredients, friendly staff and good portions. I wish they had a restroom and more seating but the pluses far outweigh the drawbacks. I would probably visit often if I were in the downtown area on a regular basis. Upon entrance, the staff was very kind and helpful with navigating the menu. I ended up opting for the Shrimp n' Grits over biscuits and due to the shop being pretty small, I decided to take a waltz around downtown. Every meal is cooked to order so be ready to wait about 10-15 minutes for your meal. I picked up my meal and was pleasantly surprised by the flavorful aroma given off.
