The food came out quickly and the service was good. This was my first time here and i did not ask what they are known for i just ordered the red fish. The food is okay. I ordered the fried chicken with turnip greens and mashed potatoes w/gravy. The fried chicken lacked flavor. It was juicy, but not seasoned well. Visited this place for lunch for the first time and thought it was good. I was amazed at how crowed the place was and I understand why. The potions are generous, price reasonable and food tasty. This is a decent place to eat. It's kinda a "meat and three" place (for non-southerners, that means you get a choice of meat like chicken strips, chicken fried steak, fried chicken, or fish and then two or three sides). The fish is really good and the sides are okay - I usually get mashed potatoes. My sister loves their sweet potato fries! There are plenty of yummy veggies too. I haven't been since the pandemic so I'm not sure how things have changed, but I'm pretty sure you can do take-out. The restaurant itself is really pretty. Good meats, sides are hit and miss. Hamburger steak and catfish are always good, consistent choices. Banana Pudding is top shelf. Green tomatoes can be good but can be bland. Don't go the last hour they are open, the staff starts trying to rush you out so they can leave. read more

The food was good, but this review is about the customer service. When I entered the restaurant, I proceeded to get in line. While in line, a server with braids asked me for my name. After I gave her my name, she stated very loudly, "FOR TO GO ORDERS, YOU NEED FO GO TO THE END OF THE BAR!" I was wondering why is she talking loud; I did not see a sign that said that. I was so shocked by her behavior. She then took my money, passed me my food, and told me if I needed silverware to get it from the side. While I was getting napkins, I observed another person coming to get a to-go order, but she just kindly helped this gentleman. I had never eaten here before. I didn't know that. Their salads are so fresh and good! I'm not much of a blue plate lover, but Trace has a LOT of options even if you're not super into typical blue plates. They have the hamburger steak kind of thing for that, but they also have really good plain fried chicken strips available on blue plate. I first ate here in 2002 when my boss told me about it. We went together and I ordered the chicken tenders, fries, rice, and cream corn. A piece of corn bread came with it as well. The food was excellent! I'm not a cornbread eater either, but theirs is great. Over the years I took my family there and new coworkers as i changed jobs. I moved out of MS for four years but I still made time to visit when i could. Last month I ate there and I ordered my "usual" tenders, fries, ccorn, rice, all with a side of corn bread. In the now TWELVE years since I first ate at the Trace Grill, the price has barely gone up (pennies) and the food tastes exactly the same as the first time I went. On recommendation of family I tried this restaurant. I was not disappointed. I have eaten here several times in the last 2 weeks. The Blue Plate specials are good as well as the fish plate. The plates are huge. Everytime I have got a doggie bag. The fish was good, not the best but not the worse by a long shot. The fish was crispy and hot -- I was not crazy about the breading, however. We've been to this restaurant a couple of times. The first time we both ordered the Fried Pork Chop and they were seasoned well and tender. I did not like the Turnip Greens because they were way too sweet and I don't like the sweet cornbread. The Fried Green Tomatoes were very good as well as the Rice and Gravy. The next time we ordered the Chicken Parmesan and the Chicken Fried Steak. Both were tender and had good flavor. I had Mac and Cheese and it was one of my Favorites I've ever had. Mistake ....... it was the end of the loaf and a good part of it was burnt. They brought out another piece and apologized .....it was a little better than average. the vegetables were very good and I'm not a veggie-type of guy. The other negative you HAVE to realize - it is hard as hell to find. It is inside a strip mall but the stores go away from the street and do NOT face the street. You can NOT see it from the highway - won't happen. The atmosphere of this place is like a good old fashion BBQ place but instead of BBQ, its southern country food. When you see a bunch of over 60 seniors at a restaurant, you know the cooking is "old school" cool. I had the chicken fried steak which was very good but disappointed on the size of the portion but for the price, I can't really complain. The kids loved their food and the place was lively. We went for lunch on a Friday. As soon as you walk in the doors the place smells delicious and lets you know that you're in for a treat. I got a plate with fried catfish, rice and gravy, and macaroni and cheese. The rice and gravy wasn't amazing, but the macaroni was better than most and the fish was the best I've had in town. My only complaint at all was the lack of real direction. You order at the counter and need to get your own utensils and fill your own drink. We stayed overnight in Ridgeland on a cross country move & needed some real food before we hit the road so I looked up restaurants near our hotel & we decided to go to The Trace Grill because it was close by & had good reviews. It by far exceeded our expectations! The place is super cute & had really pretty Christmas decorations. The staff was friendly & helpful & patient which was refreshing since we were tired & have a baby. We both got the 1 meat & 3 sides plate which is hard to believe cost less than $10. My garlic Rosemary chicken was cooked perfectly & juicy. We liked all of the sides especially the fried green tomatoes. I would definitely recommend this place! read more
