I started coming to The Trap 1-2 years ago. It started with the incredible food and beer selection (can't go wrong with the BLTA/fries), progressed to the trivia nights and new friends, and now it's for the events (sports, Love island watch parties, craft nights), vibe, staff, and my love for this place. The back patio has become one of my favorite spaces--it's truly an oasis! As a Sacramento native, I highly recommend this business. It's woman owned, has an incredible staff, and is full of kind and genuine customers who keep coming back. The yummy food and selection of beer and wine is just the cherry on top! Came here with a friend for their Love Island watch party and it was both our first times here. This is a smallish dive bar off a kind busy road but don't write it off as somewhere you can't have a good night at. The inside bar area is kinda small but you can tell there's regulars that have made this their go to. They have a karaoke touch tunes machine and a pool table. There's tvs on the inside and outside, and the outdoor area is great! It's very spacious and they have a covered portion. There's also a picnic table in the front you could sit at too. We got the one of the drink specials and it was tasty, the fries we ordered came out hot and crispy. The energy was awesome with how many people showed up for the watch party and this would definitely be a cool place for a laid back night out. They have a pretty nice food menu, lots of beer and wine, soju, and you can tell they have fun events centering sports. Also apparently female owned! The only hitch for me was the parking mostly because it was so busy but I was able to park nearby. Definitely will want to come back! read more

I've finally made it to the trap for the first time I know, I know.... I've been meaning to check this place out for several years now but it's over a 30 min drive from where I live. It's wild that the floor is slanted the way it is but it's give the place some charm and different and no you want loose you balance or fall unless you are 2 sheets in the wind. Lol! The trap is under new management and there is a nice outdoor patio with plenty of space especially if you want to enjoy those summer nights There is a wide drink selection of beers and a few selections of wine. There is limited parking but you can park at the school after hours. The service was fantastic and the bartender was so friendly had small talk and made sure everyone is taken care of. My friend and I had a great time and u will definitely come back to meet up with friends. What a great way to enjoy New Year's Eve 2024 really to walk into 2025. My husband and I and another couple went to The Trap on Taco Tuesday... It's the Ultimate dive bar!!! The bartender Sam was very kind and told us all about the food and beer... very nice and great service! We had tacos and beer on tap and the wings... The Best tacos and wings we've ever had! No Kidding! Like Amazing!!! The beer was SO GOOD.. ice cold... I highly recommend stopping by... if I had any complaints it would be the seating... we're all in our 60's and 70's and the seating (although perfect for a dive bar) was hard on our backs... but everything else was top notch! The new ownership has made the trap a destination. They have made a lot of improvements that took of the rough edges that made it a gotta go at least once spot to a place to go reguarly. They have legit outdoor areas with tvs and bar games, added taps, added food (good and well priced) and have managed to keep all of the old dive bar charm but made it comfortable to visit for a long time and often. Drinks are still cheap and theres a great cross section of patrons that make it a good time. They have a regular calendar of events, and specials, including KARAOKE, and fun stuff like Kings history nights, since the owner is the daughter of the original owner of our Sacramento Kings. They also have merch now, which was a genius move... if you are going to have oldest bar in town you gotta own it! Yes, they also still have the digital jukebox. It's been a while since I reviewed The Trap, so it seems like a good time for an update. This old relic survived the pandemic, the construction of a school next door, an unfriendly school owner, and the transition to new ownership. I think it's safe to say it will be with us for a few more years. The new owner have been a positive influence on the place. They've done some much needed renovations to the bathrooms, the back patio, and installed taps! That's right, the finally have draft beer. There's also some dart boards outside, new picnic tables, a new fence, and a food truck that's usually parked outside. They managed to do all that and preserve the local dive bar feel to the place. It's still a bit run down, unpretentious, and a cool place to stop for a cold one... or two... Who's counting! read more

Ok, The Trap has won my heart. It's our now go to spot and we know some of the locals by name. I even joined their pool league. Sarah is the best and honestly can't complain about any of the other bartenders either. They have their own food trailer that serves bomb food at a decent price. I'm obsessed with their BLTA, I've even considered getting it from DoorDash but decided to make the short drive and hang out instead. The Trap is a really great neighborhood bar and the oldest bar in Sacramento. It's got a very cute quirkiness, like the fact that it's next door to an elementary school They don't have hard alcohol yet just beer, seltzers, cider and wine. They are very good about having different events pretty much every day of the week and advertise them well. I like going on Sundays for trivia. The trap is your local dive but super chill. It's a little run down but that's part of the charm. They have 2 pool tables but we've never had a problem snagging one. They do have a 2 game limit if there are people waiting. Each game is a $1. They also have 4 steel tip dart boards that are free to play. Drinks are relatively cheap, Coronas are only $5 which is a few bucks cheaper than most places. Service can be hit or miss. The employees are nice but they often leave the bar and we get left waiting for awhile sometimes for drinks. read more

Been meaning to come here for the past year or two and finally found myself out in the pocket. Bartender is super chill and welcoming. Found out they have really amazing food. It's been a hot minute since I came here. It was great to revisit with some friends in June 2023. . The back patio was big and spacious. It was packed so great for groups to come and enjoy a drink or 2. There is nice lit string lights too. . Front patio, they had a pop up of nachos selling. The nachos looked great too. Then there is nice lit up and a few tables to sit too. . Inside was small and bar tables and a pool table too. . They only serve beers and wine I think. There is no hard liquor if your wondering. We had 3 bottles of 508 which were cold and refreshing. Service was quick and we got the ice cold beer quick because we were thirsty! . Overall it was a nice experience again. I'm lucky to live so close to Sacramento's oldest continually operating bar. The renovations over the past two years struck a good balance between modernization and preservation. The owners have scored with lots of flat screen TVs, the addition of craft beer on tap, and pub grub on demand via the Trap Trailer, which has become a semi-permanent kitchen. Somehow, they've maintained this Sac institution's mid-1800s' character all the while. read more

I have been here a few times and it has always been a great experience. There are 2 pool tables, just be sure to talk to the bartender because they do not take money directly through the machine. They also have 2 patio areas and have some decent food trucks/food booths that come through. On the back patio, there is a cornhole set. The front patio is where the food truck usually parks. Last night I tried the garlic noodles from @Foodbyy42 and they were pretty damn good. Really filling with the protein added (I chose chicken). I would probably just get it without protein next time. I also had the lumpia and that was delicious too. This bar only has bottled/canned options. No hard liquor, nothing on tap...no bells and whistles, but it's a nice chill place and very wallet friendly. They also have this quarter and bucket game at the bar that you can play to try to win free drinks. I enjoy this spot. Crazy! I've seen this place for years and finally decided to go in. Way different than I expected. Not sure what I expected but it was a pretty good experience. The bartender Adam was great! They don't have many beers on tap but they do have enough and they will do. The ambiance was cool, what do you expect it's the oldest bar in Sac. I do plan on stopping here again soon!
