One of my favorite places to play pool at with my friends. We've been lucky enough when we come to always get an open table. There are four pool table to the left of the bar area, it costs $3 for one game and $5 for two games. The tables only take cash and you can't get cash at the bar fyi. It can get pretty busy here, but the drinks and food are good so you can just hang out until one opens. They have a couple TVs playing sports with no audio, and it would be nice if they played more ambient music. read more

After our horrible service last time at Cafe Bernardo we came back hoping for a better experience and because our friend loves this place so much. We met our friend for brunch and the 49er game. We arrived today, Sunday, September 15, 2024 at 9:30am. 30 minutes after they opened. We choose to sit in their bar R15. We were the first in the bar and had our pick of tables. The bar table was clean and unsticky like last time. They really upped their game when it came to cleanliness. We needed to request they put the game on, on the TV we were facing. Soon as we asked they found someone with the remote and knew how to change the channel. We were afraid we would have to change tables. We wanted to start with pastries. They suggested we go back to Cafe Bernardo and look in their pastry case. The cinnamon roll and the carrot cake looked good so we ordered a slice of carrot cake and a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was warmed, to a little over room temperature. It was on the dry side. I wouldn't recommend it or order it again. The carrot cake on the other hand was top notch. I highly recommend the carrot cake. After seeing ours our friend ordered a slice after brunch. The others ordered the craft of mimosas and though they were perfect. Just the right mixture. They don't serve salads or burgers till after 11am. It was a little awkward as our friend wanted breakfast so he ordered his breakfast and We waited till 11:30 and I ordered my burger. It was perfectly grilled. Medium rare. It was juicy and tasty. Service was good. Our waiter kept checking on us. The bathrooms were clean. read more

I like the place. Here's why The vibe is an upbeat, casual come as you are type of place. Prompt and friendly service is a rule here. I don't love all the entrees I have tried, but I have a SUPER love for some of the entrees I return for. When we have groups, it's a safe bet that you have a choice of a variety food preferences and still have a tasty selection across the board. Several folks in our large family are strictly vegetarian. The rest of us eat vegetarian meals regularly but also consume and enjoy meat. Vegetarian choices. Sometimes it can be tough to find a vegetarian entree that is excellent. Not here. A stand out choice of theirs and for GF folks as well, is their Grain and Vegetable Bowl. Quinoa based (these people do Quinoa right) with a plethora of good for you tasty ingredients, you get a health-meets-flavor vibe. Just the right portion of Jalapeño lime dressing compliments the dish with optional add ons of organic tofu or roasted chicken. Excellent as is. Try it. Grandkids ask for the Burgers with the Mac and cheese side. We always have to steal a couple bites because the Mac is yummy. Came for lunch. Ordered salad sampler with 3 items (you can just get 2 if wanted) and the burger with fries. Salad sampler is great. This time I got 3 items: mushroom and jarlsberg cheese salad with lemon vinaigrette, Thai noodle with peanut dressing, and apparently the kale Cesar. I usually get the quinoa as my 3rd but the chef or bartender this time had a different opinion apparently. I won't be getting the Cesar again as the dressing was quite flavorless (at one point I asked if maybe they forgot the dressing because it was so dry). The mushroom salad is basically the reason I come her it's so good. And the Thai salad s nice an filling with the perfect amount of peanut dressing. The pool tables were cool. I had a lot of fun and the people around were also having fun. Very good vibes, we were all cracking jokes with each other. Unfortunately the bar area let me down with some pretty substandard service. As other reviews have mentioned: one guy (the slightly shorter fella) was hustling his butt zipping across the bar to help people and get drinks done. The slightly taller fella clearly had better places to be. He walked past me 3 times, not to get anything done but just to wander around the bar area with his hands in his pockets. I'm not joking he actually rolled his eyes when he finally made eye contact and realized he needed to be the one to serve me. I got the cherried away espresso martini, and it was... fine. The flavor tasted okay enough, especially with the cherry pairing well with the coffee. But I could tell the coffee was old, and maybe the liquor was stale. Something about it flipped my stomach right at the first sip. I couldn't really recover from that nausea until the next morning. In short: come here for a fun time with the pool tables, but you should probably pregame first and then maybe order something canned from the bar. read more

Since I used to be a frequent bar hopper back in the day, it is quite a rare occurrence for me to be consuming libations during my busy weekend nights. However, I made an exception during the evening of Saturday 3/12/2022 as I came here with friends for our pre-St. Patrick's Day festivities. As many of you know, "R15" has been a Sacramento staple dating back to around 2006 as it is conveniently located on the corner of R and 15th St's and only a block away from the Light Rail Station. This is a very popular spot both in the daytime and night. During the morning and afternoon hours, much of the space is utilized by the same owners that own "Cafe Bernardo"; a very popular Sacramento brunch spot. During the evening and night hours, a lot of that seating is closed off and the bar is exclusively available for those that wish to partake in beer, wine, and spirits. It is also a great spot to grab a drink before heading over to nearby music venue, "Ace of Spades" as well as many other eateries all within walking distance. When I came here (which was around 9:30pm on a Saturday night), there was a decent crowd but nothing like how it was 10+ years ago. I am guessing when you factor in inflation, post-pandemic uncertainty, and staffing issues, things are a little out of the ordinary. However, I felt comfortable enjoying a nice evening as our friends enjoyed shots of tequila while I enjoyed an iced cold Stella Artois. Overall service was good but prices were much higher due to shortage of supplies and rising gas/oil prices; a sign of the times. I will say that "R15" is an excellent spot if you're looking for a quick drink, nice atmosphere, TV's to watch the games, and a couple pool tables in the back. However, it was just average for me as I prefer more of the unique bars that stand out in the crowd. With that said and done, I am giving R15 just an average three-star rating. My SIL asked what white claws they had and his response was "whatever I reach in and grab" They were not that busy when we entered on a Saturday night yet it still took us a while to even get acknowledged. I have had a beer or two when meeting bands at Ace of Spades over the years. I have never had food here. Just beer. Beer prices are decent with PBR being the cheaper choice. It used to be $2.50 a pint like 5 or so years ago if I remember correctly. A buddy and I used to share a pitcher of $8 PBR way back 5-6 years ago while hanging out waiting to see band members walking around. The bartenders have never been very friendly. I have had a couple younger ones that were nicer. The older guys not as much. Good for a quick beer before the show without breaking the bank. read more

We were in the mood for some pool and a quick search on Yelp brought us to R15. They are located inside Cafe Bernardo so I didn't see any outside signage saying R15 so if you are new to this spot it could be a bit confusing to realize where it is. R15 isn't much of a pool hall tho, it's 4 tables squeezed into a room too small to play comfortably. They used to have little rooms you could sit in but they appeared to have blocked those off so seating is minimal in to pool area. There is spotty seating out in bar area but it fills up quickly. Here's my problem with this place. R15 is touted as a pool hall however the bar does not offer cash back to play the pool tables. You need quarters to play the tables and if you have cash I'm sure getting change might be ok from the bar but if you're card only, you're not able to play. If the bar won't give cash back, maybe consider putting an ATM machine in there at least. read more

Saturday, 2/01/2020 - Went here to play pool. We did not eat here. They have 4 pool table. Cute restaurant and pool area. They even have an upstairs area with dining table. Probably for busy times. It didn't look open when I was there. But I could see tables and chairs upstairs from the pool area. There was a patio in the front of the pool table area to eat outside. Pros: 1) has 4 pool tables 2) has a bar area 3) clean looking inside 4) the restaurant was bigger than I thought. Roomy. When I went to go looking for the bathroom, it went around the bar area too! Surprised me. Very clean looking restaurant. 5) quiet. 6) order our drinks and got it fairly quickly. Cons: 1) the pool table by the glass windows? Awful! There wasn't enough room to use your cue sticks at certain corners to shoot. Your stick keeps hitting the wall. Argh! Very fraustrating. 2) women's bathroom was on the dirty side. There was no paper towels in the dispenser on the sink. But thankful there was hand soap and a working hand dryer! 3) if you come Monday to Saturday, you do have to pay for parking. Over all, we went here to play a few rounds of pool. Had a great time. Moved to another table away from the window, when it became open. We will come here again to try their food. I hope their customer service and service in general will be good. read more
