This place was amazing! Mostly apps and I ordered the charcuterie and truffle fries. Both portions were huge and so tasty! I had one of their smoking (literally!) mezcal drinks and it was delicious. It's always such a treat to find a place with such a great atmosphere and great food. My only negative is they need to list better directions on how to get to the place because google and Apple Maps pins you away from the train station and down the street. We had a reservation for 7pm and we spent a good 20 mins walking around to find the place. We finally went back to the train station and spoke with the bartender at the sports bar (above Tunnel) who directed us to Tunnel Bar. Part of this could have been that a wedding was going on so signage was saying the area was closed (and we had no idea how to get there). All in all, I will be back! Love love read more

Food- duck confeit poutine....unexpectedly...amazing! There are NOT a lot of options for food, but the ones they have are freakin awesome. If you want amazing drinks, this is definitely the place to go. The martini and cocktail menu is quite expansive, including classic cocktails and new creations. They also have a fairly large mocktail section that has some fun and unique drinks too! I would suggest eating while here because the drinks are very very strong ... they don't have any large plates, but a lot of appetizer options and pizza. The pizza was ok, but they accommodated us and did half pepperoni and half margarita pizza on request. The truffle fries were probably the best truffle fries I've had in a while. I just wish they had dinner or sandwich options since pizza was the only thing outside an appetizer option. It was dominos quality at best :-/ but I'm partial to New Haven and wood fired type pizza. All in all it was great, and we do look forward to going for pre-dinner cocktails again soon! read more

A fun "upscale" bar. We liked the atmosphere and the service was excellent. It was a Monday night, so you wouldn't expect it to be rowdy but there were a couple of people having a bit too good of a time. I tried the jack rose and the Singapore sling and both were ok, very acidic not very well balanced. Over all fun and we will return! read more

I told the bartender I didn't know what I wanted. Gave him three options and he said he'd surprise me and he did - it was great. I honestly can't remember the name because there are so many. But I think if you tell them a few you are thinking of, they will tell you the best one out of those. My hubby got an old fashioned and it was great. Nice and muddled. We ended with a dessert martini because we've never had one in our lives. The bartender said he makes one off the menu and suggested that. We said ok. He made us a Samoa cookie martini like the girls scout cookie. It was amazing! Very good but not too sugary, could definitely still taste the liquor. Can be a little crowded and noisy, but it's a tunnel so that comes with the territory, right? It's a unique historic spot with a cool vibe and a great drink menu. Probably would avoid if you're noise sensitive, some patrons can be very loud! There's a lot of hustle and bustle going on in a smaller space. I used to spend a lot of time in Northampton (or more affectionately dubbed NoHo), and one of my favorite haunts was the Tunnel Bar. Some friends were visiting over the holidays, so we decided to meet up in this old favorite on Friday night. It definitely lived up to our favorite memories. One friend ordered the Corpse Reviver #2, another the Brandy Alexander, and I went for the Raspberry Truffle Dessertini. The Corpse Reviver was not my kind of drink with a strong anise/licorice flavor from the Absinthe. I did enjoy the citrus flavor though and can understand why others like it (if you like that awful thing others call licorice). The best part was watching the bartender make the drink though. My friend who ordered the drink says the Corpse Reviver is not a drink but rather an event. I agree. The bartender pours the Absinthe in and lights it on fire before sprinkling in lemon zest, which rekindles the flames a bit. The rest of the drink is made in a shaker, then poured over top, dousing the flames. It was definitely a sight to see. I'm sorry I didn't video it; I was too busy taking it all in! The Brandy Alexander was pretty good and festive for the holidays. It was strong and the nutmeg reminded me of eggnog. My drink, the Raspberry Truffle was my favorite. It was strong, chocolatey, especially at the end when the chocolate syrup swirled around the glass had dripped to the bottom. Yum! All the drinks were strong and worth every penny, even though they are a bit expensive. The ambience is great as the bar is in an old railroad tunnel, with gorgeous and comfy leather wingback chairs. It can be a bit loud, with sound echoing off the rounded ceiling, but it's a fun atmosphere. I don't think it will be as long till the next time I am out here again! read more

For me this place is more a 4 or 4 1/2 but I am going to go with a 5 to increase the rating. There is NO WAY this place is a 3 or 3 1/2 as it currently shows. This place was mentioned on Buzzfeed as one of the top 20 bars to have a cocktail in... right here in WMass. For sure this place gets busy on the weekends and it can be harder to get a table and the service slows a little ...but that is to be expected. Go in off peak and those issues disappear and you still have a totally cool bar with an incredible cocktail menu. That menu is great. Other places should take notice (are you listening Green Room - a great place that lacks a strong menu). Tunnel Bar has all the classic cocktails even the ones that require some work. As a 50 year old guy I have to say thanks Tunnel Bar for educating America's youth on the classic cocktails my parents drank and recreating them for me! Tunnel Bar also has a crazy amount of martinis and lots of the fancy trendy sweet ones as well - if that is your thing. I have had Old Fashioneds, Daiquiris, Caipirinhas, Scotches, and my companions have had martinis, cosmos, beer and tons of other stuff. All were perfect. Atmosphere is totally cool, hipsters love it and well traveled folks appreciate it. The bar is in the old tunnel where Northampton folks of yesteryear would exit or enter the railway station. As stated earlier, service is excellent non peak and standard at peak times. I will give a shout out to my last bartender Kate who besides being super nice makes great Daiquiris. Prices are what you would expect for a higher end cocktail place but they pack a punch and the value is there. Be sure to have your driving or transportation arrangements in order before you spend any significant time at the Tunnel Bar. All in all this place is an A+. Cool vibe, great menu ... it is a definite do again and/or recommend. read more

Tunnel Bar was a very cool experience when first entering. It has a very cool authentic vibe to it because its literally a tunnel and has mirrors and lighting that makes the room look like its gone forever. I liked that there were sofas to sit on but it makes everything feel kind of crowded. Drinks were really good and average priced. My friends and I have been coming here for years and really enjoyed the unique ambiance but over the last few years the staff have become rude and have been closing an hour earlier than the posted time of 1am. I think the closing hours should be changed to midnight. It was frustrating that we ordered drinks near 12am then had the lights turned on and told its closing time when more than one site said closing hours were 1am. I've been wanting to check out Tunnel Bar for some time. So I was delighted when our group decided to drop in. FYI: as others have mentioned, if you're from out-of-state, be prepared to have 2 forms of I.D. ready. I'm a sucker for all things vintage (especially historical charm) and as the name implies, the Tunnel Bar is located inside a street-level tunnel that was part of the old train station. As you saunter in, you notice how the long narrow hallway is made up of stone and ceramic tiles, and old-fashioned light fixtures dot the center ceiling. But then, it hits you. An undeniable stench, not entirely sure of what, but there is a odd lingering-aroma.. Smell aside, the ambiance is pleasing. You might consider going during off hours though because the acoustics aren't great. You may find yourself having a hard time having a conversation, or hearing yourself think. The drinks are around $10-$20 so just putting that out there. The place is so unique and the set up is so great. It is literally a tunnel. The signature cocktails are amazing. The music was popping. The place is open late which is awesome. No food just drinks and fun down there. We had a really wonderful time. Our sever was super nice unlike at some other bars and he treated us really well and even made our drinks right in front of us. So much potential! This is such a NEAT location. We loved the overall feel of this bar, but immediately the music turned us off. I'm a millennial whether I like it or not, but I also realize there's a time and place for our music. And here is NOT one of them. What a great find on a girls weekend trip, though it was hard to find. If you go, ignore the signs at the stairs that say tunnel bar up, its right in the wall. Common sense but I guess we didn't have any. It truly is in a tunnel. the place is so cozy and lined with leather chairs and little tables. Cozy chat areas. they serve vodka, tequila and whisky drinks with unique twist. My daughter ordered something she didn't like and the waiter brought her a new drink and let the table finish hers but he didn't charge us. That was really nice. There are small food choices, veggie plates etc. It can get loud as its in a tunnel but it has very cool vibes. read more
