When I was first pulling in and walked into the restaurant, I was a little overwhelmed by how "fancy" this place is. Beautiful, breathtaking, clean.. I was very worried that it was going to be extremely expensive however, it was not. 3 of us ate lunch for under $50 including a generous tip. I looked up the menu ahead of time and i just kept scrolling back to the veg meatballs, so that is what I ordered but I ordered them as a meal with a side of fries (not as a starter as the menu suggests). I'm glad I did! They were a lot bigger than I thought they were going to be and definitely filled me up. I actually only ate one and a few fries wishing I could handle more. They weren't really "spicy" outside of the marinara sauce but they are certainly packed full of flavor. I highly recommend this restaurant and I look forward to returning. read more

Very nice place, a step up from casual dining, but certainly not a suit and tie environment. I got the seafood linguine and it was very good, as was the house salad. We also ordered the chocolate molten lava cake which was very rich. Overall, I really liked the place, a little pricier than I thought, but nothing too crazy. My wife and I went to this beautiful restaurant last night with a group of friends. Everything was very good. I had the strip steak with mashed red potatoes and roasted asparagus. We've dined here 3 times with parties of 8 and had the same waiter and table all three times. Cons: Service was EXTREMELY slow all three times. Were there from 2-2 1/2 hours each time and that was only for our meals ). We didn't order dessert (the first time it wasn't even offered to us). Each time we've gone someone at our table has ordered salad along with their entree. Each time the salad either came with the meal or didn't come at all (twice). Two times the we specifically requested our salad come out ahead of our meals and did not. One time one person at our party didn't even get their entree. EVERY time our drinks were never refilled in a timely manner. Our server kept blaming the bar, but too many times I would see our drinks (I could view the bar from my seat) sitting ready to go for 10-20 minutes or more. AND I would see our waiter walk by them and stand around waiting near the kitchen. We couldn't even get our water glasses refilled without asking 2-3 times. Our waiter was one of the worst servers I've ever had (and we had him all three visits). If he got $1 for every excuse he could make, he wouldn't need to wait tables. Besides the drinks, salads, not offering dessert he was horrible at taking orders. Each time he couldn't keep our bills straight, he had the wrong seat-to-entree order for the kitchen when they brought out our food, he took way too long to bring out any sides, and he just seemed to be winging it. The one time I even told him (and did) that we needed to take his picture so that we could remember what he looked like because we hadn't seen him in a while. And if he were a QB on a football team and talked so badly about his linemen as he did about the kitchen and the bar, he'd be suffering from a concussion from an unblocked hit from the other team. The last time I was in there the party of 8 that was getting ready to leave next to us seemed to be suffering from his lack of organization too. They were passing dinner bills back and forth to him and I could here him apologizing every time. They really seemed stressed over the whole thing. We eventually just figured our bills our ourselves (each time!) because 2-3 times back and forth gets exhausting and frustrating. Pros: We loved our food and the drinks were good (when we could get them). The steaks were really tender. We loved the pizzas. Mac and cheese was a little dry two of the times, but still good. Good reviews of the salmon too. Kudos to the kitchen and bar. Also, the restaurant is very pretty inside and has an awesome looking patio. Overall: Dining is a complete experience. When we take friends out we want them to be happy and enjoy the experience. Unfortunately, the service really ruined our experience here. I gave it three tries and now I'm out. I expected a lot more from the benchmark restaurant they were coming from (Gervasi). I cancelled my 4th reservation for 8. We will spend our money elsewhere. I'm sorry to be so harsh in this review, because I like to support local, but I really can't recommend because of the bad service. Not again. This restaurant spent loads of money in ambiance and atmosphere. What they did not do is create a great menu and a decent Chef. This seems to be the trend between here and gervaysi. Decided to go snag some dinner before a movie last night. I had heard good things about the Twisted Olive, so my boyfriend and I decided to give it a try. On first impressions, this is a beautiful building, lots of rustic meets modern decor with a breathtaking view of the water out on their balcony. I was really impressed by the flow and setup of the whole place. Sadly, after my boyfriend and I were sat, it took about ten minutes for us to even get a glass of water. Our waiter finally came over, he was friendly enough, and we ordered cocktails. The drinks were delicious and by far the best part of the meal. Their martinis were delicious. We both ordered pasta dishes, I the seafood pasta, my boyfriend the Carbonara. A credit to the restaurant is that the meals came out very quickly. There were issues with the food though. The most glaring issue was the sauce on my seafood pasta. It tasted like the water they boiled the pasta in. It was flavorless and did nothing for the dish. I sampled the Carbonara, and the sauce was better, maybe still heavy on cream and low on seasoning. Our waiter took the dish when I informed him and switched it out for the scallops. They were much better, but at that point I was just kind of over the whole experience. My overall consensus is that, it's pricey for sub par food, but the atmosphere is quite nice. Its a 2 story restaurant with the downstairs being a sports bar and the upstairs being a loft with a private library. My good friends and I went to the Twisted Olive for the first time tonight and it was nothing short of a great experience. Corey F waited on us and was extremely personable and made us feel right at home. Being that this was our first time there we relied on his suggestions and I must say he was spot on! I frequently traveled across the country for my job over the years and my true test of any restaurant I visited was the filet mignon. The quality of the steak, and more importantly, how it is cooked is my measuring stick. About 10 years ago I was in Scottsdale Arizona and we were taken to a place I had never been, called Maestro's. To this day, that dining experience was the best I have ever had anywhere in the country. The filet was cooked perfectly and the staff had made the experience just special - until today. When dining at the Twisted Olive this evening Corey suggested the filet as his favorite thing on the menu - coupled with a Manhattan! I was skeptical having my stellar experience at Maestro's in the back of my mind. The aged beef at the Twisted Olive was obviously cared for and the preparation was just perfect. I had ordered my filet to be cooked medium... and it was perfectly medium! A rare occurrence in most restaurants (Pun intended!). Kudos to the chefs for making the Twisted Olive my new favorite place for a great filet!! The food, the environment and the staff were superb. I would offer 6 stars if I could. A friend and myself had dinner at the twisted olive a couple months ago and we enjoyed it very much, it's a really nice place and it's got great food although I wish they had a bigger selection, I hear they have a little bit more now than they did then, think I'll give it another try soon. Everyone in my party was very happy with their dinners! I had the chicken feta meatballs as a meal. That, and the wedge salad were more than I could eat. The wedge salad was the best I've had and came chopped, making it very easy to dive right in. The meatballs were super tender and very rich and flavorful. My daughter got the filet and it was fantastic, as were the mashed Yukon gold potatoes and green beans. Our friend ordered a "pie", (pizza) and it too was fantastic! Our server was extremely friendly and always there when we needed her. The building and grounds are stunning, with a view of an expansive lawn and pond surrounded by woods. While in the Akron Ohio area on business my colleagues and I found this diamond in the rough. The restaurant is huge, with free valet parking available. There are 4 or 5 different dining sections in this restaurant. The whole place is huge, but because of the large banks around the booths it still felt intimate. We all ordered different drinks and they were nice and strong and well mixed. The food was also delicious. The menu is vast, between steak and seafood and pasta and salads and pizza. In my opinion, having that many things on the menu usually means that nothing is done incredibly well. However, I had the steak and it was perfectly cooked and delicious. Portions were big and the prices were reasonable. Overall, I had a great experience, great food and excellent service. If I'm ever back in Akron, I'll be back. read more

We ate here in the bar downstairs last night. The food was good, and we had a nice time with pleasant service. This business is part of the Gervasi Vineyard family of restaurants which has a reputation for a high standard of service, but the last three visits have fallen very short of my expectations. Long waits to be checked on all three times. Both bar beverages, and just getting ice water have taken a long time both here, and at the Crushhouse. Same with food coming out and waiting to order. I have tipped very well and don't blame the servers, it seems like management is understaffing, and making one server cover too many tables to keep up. It should be an easy fix, I hope to see it corrected before my next visit. read more

Appetizers were amazing especially flatbread beef combo. Salads are huge but excellent. Scallops were rated a 9 and filet about 7.5. Dessert I wouldn't bother. Wine is their own brand. If you are wine conisseour I would not recommend. Fun atmosphere. read more

Number ONE: the rolls are 100% better than Gervasi. Gervasi needs to switch over to Olives's rolls. The atmosphere was wonderful & the waiter was great. I want to give it five stars; however, I can't because my husband's wedge salad (which was large) was rather bland - he felt the dressing didn't have the flavor it should have (and he orders that salad everywhere) - he also said he wasn't sure if the bacon was fresh (??). I had the scallops and lobster ravioli - and if it wasn't for the hard edges on the ravioli - I would have given it FIVE stars. My suggestion may be that the ravioli is cut smaller to avoid the large/wide hard edges (which were very chewy). [I did miss the beef short rib and gnocchi entrée that Gervasi offers.] read more

I think the Gervasi brain trust gets undue criticism based solely on the fact that they swing for the fences. So when they miss, it seems bigger than it really is, only because the expectations are so great. I also think there's a reflex reaction in small-town Middle America to want to tear down anybody seeming to "put on airs" or act "too big for their britches." I get it, but I still applaud them for trying to do something different in this area. And for treating residents like grown-ups who might have tastes more sophisticated than a Belden Village chain restaurant. The Twisted Olive is billed as a more casual, yet still foodie-centric, alternative to the flagship in Plain Township. But given the winding entrance lane, lush grounds and dramatic interiors, there's really nothing about the place that feels like a step down. That might be the problem. The menu of simpler fare just doesn't jibe with the surroundings. The food might seem more pedestrian than it really is because it can't live up to what the décor promises? Maybe they should go all-in and turn this location's food into Gervasi North. Admittedly, we ordered some pretty simple stuff. Loaded fries, chopped salad, Meatball trio, grown-up grilled cheese sandwich, peanut butter pie, cheesecake and a "meany Belini." No complaints about the fries, which were natural cut and covered in a homemade cheese sauce (which you never see in restaurants; I appreciated the effort), shredded cheddar and bacon. Served with truffle ketchup. The bacon was a bit hard ... like BBs. But the overall flavor was good. At $6, I found the price reasonable. The chopped salad came in a dramatic presentation of a layered cylinder that was removed at the table. The buttermilk dressing had a nice, unexpected lightness to it. The BB bacon bits made an appearance here, too. I wished I could get one of each of their different meatball types, but it's not allowed so I opted for the basic beef. They were tough and tasted more like sausage than meatball. The red sauce was very tomatoey and not much else. The grilled cheese sandwich needed more butter on the bread and I would've liked the apple to be less toothsome. It doesn't have to be like pie filling, but it was basically raw and therefore natural sugars had not been released at all. The promised balsamic glaze was hard to find. The cheese lacked the meltiness I was expecting, surprising given the presence of brie, which melts so easily. Desserts were routine, small and, at about five bucks each, skippable. The Belini was fantastic. It was $10 and the price didn't bother me at all. We were seated in the lower level, which apparently is already notorious for its noise and clamber. We were in a roomful of other mature adults and it was still loud. Not so much ear-splitting as a sustained, disorienting roar. The kind where you suddenly realize your head hurts. Service was friendly and unobtrusive. No complaints here on that. read more

I first had lunch at the Twisted Olive before the official opening and was highly impressed. I was there on a date a few months ago and although we had reservations, we were given a horrible small table in a busy space. Our waiter was outstanding however and compensated a bit. The room was so loud that we were unable to talk and defeated the purpose of a date. The food however was amazing! I am returning tonight (Valentine's Day) with another date who has never been there. We stopped in on Friday for lunch and were immediately impressed by the building and beautiful setting. The menu selection was very interesting and the food did not disappoint. We started with roasted brussel sprouts and they were so good that I'm already looking forward to having them again! The pasta dishes that we ordered were also really yummy. My husband and I heard Twisted Olive was good, so we went for a late lunch after Christmas shopping today. We split some delicious chicken wings with a delicious garlicky sauce. The bread was nondescript, but my apple, fig, arugula salad was tasty. Matt's Sicilian pie had just the right amount of bite and plenty of flavor. For dessert, we split the berry. Cobbler topped with vanilla ice cream. We ate at the upstairs bar, and our waitress was informative and friendly. We will be back. read more
