Best bagels I've ever had. For a great price, you get a large, fresh baked, thick but fluffy bagel of any kind with the best array of cream cheese spreads I've seen. Don't believe me? Try the Snickerdoodle bagel with Honey Almond cream cheese and you'll never grab a plain grocery store bagel again. Ultimate Bagel is a local favorite for the Gonzaga area. I stopped in after hearing a friend talk about how much they loved Ultimate. I tried out a sesame bagel, and let me tell you, this bagel should have been called a Giant Bagel. I couldn't finish it! Haha... that has literally never happened in my life. Anyways, they don't have wimpy bagels here, and it tasted super fresh! The staff was super friendly and they have a 100% Starbucks tolerance, so even though they sell coffee you can bring in some from Starbucks next door. And, in a few weeks, you could get a Pumpkin Spice latte and pair it with a Pumpkin bagel with pumpkin cream cheese... what!? I'll be back to give that a shot. read more

I am more than a bit biased because I work at Ultimate Bagel. HOWEVER, the fact that I've been working there for four years and still can't get enough speaks to the deliciousness of this establishment. The bagels are scrumptious (get there in the morning or call-in ahead of time as the selection dwindles throughout the day). Even better though, are the custom-made cream cheese flavors- made with Philadelphia Cream Cheese. The thing is: ya gotta know what to order. In the mood for something savory? Try the Asiago cheese bagel, double toasted, half with "Garlic and Chive", half with "Garden Veggie." In the mood for something sweet? Try the Whole Wheat Cinnamon Raison bagel, cut into thirds, toasted twice, one third with "Honey Almond" cream cheese, one third with "Huckleberry" cream cheese, and one third with just butter. In the mood for something breakfasty? Try the "Eggcelent" bagel sandwich on a Salt & Pepper bagel. And don't forget about bageldogs, pizza melts, bagelwiches, cinnamon toasted bagels, salads and soups! The options are truly endless.... If you can't decide on what to get, just ask one of the gals behind the counter and one of us will suggest options until one sounds just right for you. I love this place. Take bagels to an art form. Unfortunately they charge like its art. Great food, especially for early weekend mornings when you need to get some food in ya. However the hours often leave me wanting and I feel I can probably get a better breakfast for cheaper a number of places near there. I still think everyone should try Ultimate at least once, obviously there are many fanatics and to be honest I can understand why. The bagel I had here was not THE ultimate bagel. Scratch that... if the criteria for evaluation is the weight/density of a standard sized bagel, this probably was the ultimate. The people are nice, they allow/encourage you to bring a starbucks from next door inside, the bagels taste great but are the the single most dense starch bomb I have ever experienced, and the cream cheese comes in many delicious varieties. Finally, pay attention to their sign that directs you to "not panic" in a certain situation. I didn't look at it right away and indeed started to panic. Now you know - don't be a fool. read more

Ultimate bagel is my absolute favorite. There's always a new treat to try and a new combo to enjoy. Though I go once a week, I never really know what I want, but everyone is so kind and patient! There's also typically three diff bagels to sample and three diff cream cheeses to try by the register. Might I recommend the snickerdoodle bagel, toasted, with vanilla cream cheese? OR the sesame bagel with huckleberry cream cheese on one side and jalapeño cheddar cream cheese on the other? The Ultimate Bagel, was indeed the ultimate. Great customer service and great bagels. They had a good selection of bagels and cream cheese. I choose the salt and pepper bagel with garlic chive cream cheese and my husband choose the traditional lox and cream cheese which comes with the red onion, capers, and cream cheese. He said the lox were delicious. They both had that soft inside and chewy outside. My cousin and her husband joined us and they live in Spokane so they will be returning. Well done!! read more

The reason I love this place is the variety of their spreads and bagels. I stick to my usual whole wheat with flax seed bagel and veggie spread. I've tried the lite huckleberry and that is also very yummy! They are very generous with their spreads! I had their BLT bagel for lunch once, it was wayyyy to hard to even eat. I had to open up my sandwich to eat it, which sucked, cause it wasn't a sandwich anymore. I suggest sticking to their bagels! read more

This is the only place where I've been able to get a Jalopeno Asiago Bagel with Jalopeno Cheddar cream cheese. I've been ruined for life for other bagel places because noone else has this delectible combination. These big, fresh, bagels which Ultimate bagel makes in their bakery are so delicious that I think about them in comparison to every bagel I've had since. The cream cheese portions are heart-cloggingly generous. That's a good thing...especially because many flavors are low-fat...though that still doesn't make cream cheese healthy. Sometimes, all you need for breakfast is toasted bagel with warmed cream cheese and this place has every combination available. As soon as you walk in, they have a display window of the various types of bagels they have on hand. Once you pick your bagel (everything, blueberry, plain, etc.) you pick your spread (butter, jelly, cream cheese), and then you pick your preparation (toasted, made into a sandwich...). There must be a MILLION combinations to choose from. I loved all the Gonzaga decor on the walls. It definitely looked like a campus hangout. The service was quick and to the point - if not a little rude - but the food was good. The establishment got pretty busy while we were there too. (Not sure if that's a regular thing). I went here for lunch with my girl friend, because it was a new local biz we haven't tried. We split the lox sandwhich. It was 9.60 after tax, no sides. It was literally an onion bagel, salmon cream cheese, a thin slice of lox, a few purple onions, and a slice of tomato. It was basically a snack someone would make for themselves, not restaurant quality. The bagel was horrible, one of the worst I've had. It was like eating thick bread. The cream cheese had no additional flavor, it just tasted like cream cheese, it was also applied way too thick. The onion and tomato made me laugh, it really looked like a snack I would make for myself. All that for $10 dollars! That's a whole pizza or two burritos elsewhere! Yeah, maybe the name sets you up for some slight disappointment. The bagels taste good, but they are dense as hell. You could call them bagel bombs...in the sense that you could probably do some major damage if you lobbed them at something. The highlights for me are the variety of both bagels and cream cheese. Unfortunately I have to agree with other reviewers that the service in this establishment is absolutely terrible. I've been here a handful of times as I was a Gonzaga student and also lived nearby for many years. Not only have the majority of workers there been rude while trying to order, but it's never a good experience to have somebody barely talk to you and then as soon as they're done turn to the coworker and it's back to "sunshine and rainbows" on their end. However the worst part would have to be the lack of service and care with the owner. Anytime she's helped me I hardly get a peep out of her, and when I do it feels like i'm wasting her time and bothering her by coming in and spending my money here. Im sorry, am I not allowed to ask you questions and get an actual answer back? It's sort of shocking how negative it feels in there as a customer and it's also not exactly cheap. I will say that the cream cheese flavors are delicious, but the bagels are dry and thick; never fully toasted if you ask me. I will not be returning to this establishment as i've given it a solid 10+ tries and maybe had 2 neutral/positive experiences. Shoutout to the blonde hair guy with glasses for the complete lack of service, enthusiasm, communication, etc. anytime i've come in. I assume this place relies on Gonzaga students so maybe they don't care about being nice or friendly to customers??? I don't know but I would never go here unless you're okay with below average service and basic bagels (or a microwaved breakfast sandwich if you go that route) at a steep price. Ultimate was a Gonzaga-era weekend standard for me--the best offering I've found in Spokane for NY-style bagels (despite being a far cry from Empire State quality fare). The perfect not-ready-to-study distraction for a slow weekend morning. They do fairly well on the basics, lots of cream cheese, the varieties of bagel you're looking for, and the Gonzaga decor is mind-bendingly nostalgia inducing (for me, at least). But I've had my heart broken two Sundays running over their 'classic' lox bagels, and it's just unfair. The first offering was serviceable, just skimped on the lox. So double lox this time (and double hope), and I'm now fighting to bite through a thick cut and oddly miniature bagel for anywhere, much less Ultimate, for about $4 more than I would expect to pay. Stick to the basics here, but save your classic lox hopes for somewhere else. read more

One time when I was there with a friend she suggested I order a bagel with French vanilla cream cheese with sliced strawberries and despite the bagel texture being off, I thought it was delicious! If you like giant blobs of underbaked dense white bread, you will love this place. We used to buy actual bagels here a few years ago, but when we bought a dozen recently we found that something had changed. These rolls don't have any of the chewy goodness and smooth crusty exterior of an authentic bagel. Ours weren't even shaped like bagels - there was no central hole because the mass of tasteless bread had completely overwhelmed the space. Others have commented on the rudeness of the staff here. We didn't find that to be true when we visited. If they'd been a little ruder at least we could have imagined we were in a New York bagel place -- that is until we sampled the product. read more

That day was probably like most others in Spokaloo. A little bagel shop opened it's doors some 10+ years ago next to a little college that most people had never heard of. Oh how that day one day would change my life. The name was asiago, the topping was jalepeno cheddar cream cheese. The hole in the middle was swollen closed, creating a crater of wondrously melted cheese. The thing must have weighed two pounds. I was forever hooked. I brought my friends. I brought my family. I created converts far and wide. I would live on their bagels though college. But then it happened: Life after college. Who knew it would be so different? I fell in love. I moved to California. Others struggled to find jobs and girlfriends and the meaning of life and I just simply tried to find another stinkin' establishment that could make a bagel that deliciously addicting. I would re-route road trips to go through Spokane and bribe people to bring bags of bagels if they were passing through. But once every couple years is just not enough. I tried others'. I'll admit it. I dipped my knife in another's cream cheese and I regret it. You think it's going to be the same and it never is. It just leaves you with a ball of dough in your stomach and longing for more. It's hard to admit failure, but I am saying it here: There is no equal. Very yummy large, fluffy bagels and filling breakfast sandwiches with great service to match!

I don't have any basis to compare this to, because it was my 1st time having a bagel and lox. But it was delish and I would definitely order it again. The bagel itself was super fresh, moist and with just enough crisp on it from getting it toasted. Generous portions of the lox and rest of the fixins. Price was decent as well.
