I only go the UPS store for the return of items through the mail. I ordered a formal dress online, which I do not recommend. It was sequined dress. Before I could try the dress on, sequins were bouncing off the dress. Not a good sign... In addition, I did not like the way the dress fit overall. So, I decided to return the dress. Many stores used to have free shipping and free returns. Well, now days, many stores still have free shipping but no free returns. I had to pay $5 to get return labels to ship this dress back. In the big scheme of things, this was not too bad (some stores charge $15+ for returns.) I went to the UPS store with my QR return code and literally, in seconds my return was made. He also gave me a paper copy of my transaction. In addition, I had my left over taco bag in hand and he said I could use a trash can that was hidden underneath a counter. I have been using this location of the UPS store for awhile and one good thing about it is that it is very rarely busy. I like to call it my secret UPS store. It's a great convenient location, too. But I had an issue with them this morning that I have to share. Their website lets you create print orders to pick up in the store and I used it because I needed copies. They said the copies would be ready this morning, so I stopped by. The shop attendant told me their website doesn't work so my order was not only not ready but it was not even in process. He said I could email it but there is an additional fee to send it that way. Don't take orders online if you can't process them. The shop attendant was so unapologetic and literally walked away from me while I was still talking to him, trying to understand the situation. Don't call yourself a print shop or copy place either if you're not going to fulfill the service. Very disappointed. read more

Unable to scan the Amazon QR codes with their own guns, for 3 packages delivered the customer, they wanted to charge for scanning them with their copier machine while blaming a 72 year old man for bring the physical QR codes to their counter. Management at Store 2548 was offensively arrogant to me. I asked twice for my tracking number and a receipt for my transaction but he wouldn't provide them. They overpacked my items beyond anything reasonable thereby running up the size and weight and cost of shipping. It looks and feels like price gouging to me; and when I simply asked to explain the unreasonable pricing he wouldn't and commanded that the pricing was fixed if I wanted my items. read more

The store has really slid over the years. Today's experience might have taken the cake. I came in with a prepaid UPS label and a piece of electronic equipment that I was returning for warranty repair. I asked for a quote on having the store staff pack it. Needless to say, the estimate was super expensive. I then decided to buy packing supplies from the store and package it while there. While it's not the fault of the store staff, the tape was super low quality and marked up. What can be controlled is the lackluster, disinterested service that has seemed to become par for the course. The one employee there this afternoon (during the after work rush) is slow and disinterested. His demeanor is more of the stereotypical postal employee. In fact, when he sold me the packaging supplies, I mentioned that I'd need a pair of scissors to use briefly to cut the tape. He offered to sell me scissors. Fortunately, I remembered having a pair of scissors in my car. Long story short, the only redeeming feature of this store is the convenience to my house. But I can drive a bit further to another store in the future. read more

Spent an hour today in the car - back and forth from the Tax office - because the Nervous Notary Mr. Richard didn't understand how to complete his section. Seemed really put out by his mistake and seemed to want to blame me for "not reading the instructions". Since I had the forms instructions with me, I let him know that they didn't provide any instructions for the NOTARY - I think they are just supposed to know their job.... I admit, I was confused on the Amazon return protocol. I have used the UPS store for our business and personal needs for the past nine years. They have a been a wonderful addition to our business. We use them for shipping, copying, and printing/faxing. It's also nice to have packages shipped here as you don't have to worry about them being stolen from your porch or having them clutter up your waiting room. The staff is exceptionally nice and works hard to make you happy. The owners are frequently there to ensure a good quality of service. Frequently their staff helps me to load packages into my car and accommodates any request as long as they aren't crazy busy. The negative reviews on this store seem to frequently center around things when there is a rush and the store is a little backed up. They do their best to handle it but people get frustrated with the wait and that their rates are higher than the post office. That said, if you are going to the post office, be prepared for longer waits and staff that's burned out and underfunded. read more

I went into the store a number of months ago to have four pages of a document notarized, then overnight the document. When I went into the store, I told the service rep just that. We were in the middle of notarizing the pages and another customer came in for some stamps. I asked the service rep if he wanted to help the other customer (since the notary process was taking a number of minutes). He said to me "I just want to get this over with." Then told me this was the longest notary job he'd ever had to and he's worked there for four years. I was flabbergasted that he would say that to me. I was in Austin to move my elderly parents from Austin to San Diego and was about at the end of my rope. Sorting, purging, packing... and then as I was taking tubs of stuff to UPS on the way to catch a flight, the rain started. CARLTON behind the UPS counter on Mesa Dr. was my saving grace that day. I told him my story, he took all the stuff out of my hands, immediately lightening my load, and he confidently reassured me that my day was "about to turn around." He was positive, informative, efficient and understanding. He could have just processed my transaction, but instead, he genuinely helped me. And the cost to ship large boxes by ground weren't nearly as expensive as I expected. I'm so grateful Carlton turned my day around. Many thanks. The guy was very uneducated about services they are providing. I went there for notary service for my legal document translation. The guy said that they are not supposed to accept documents with any single foreign words even if it is direct translation from one language to another, and refused to provide notary service asking for an official document. I explained him that it was an official document from the US government agency. But the guy kept on saying they can not accept any doc with any non-english words and he is not even allowed to tell you where to download an official notary document. At this point I figured that he probably does not even understand what a notary means or have not been educated on that service. I simply went to UPS on Farwest, and got the notary service in 20 seconds. end of the story. read more

I've had a business nearby for the past 5 years, in the beginning I would frequent the store 2-3x a week, now my Wife goes 5 times a week and I might stop in once a month for a notary or other shipping needs. Tim has worked there since I have been going in, although I do know the ownership has changed in that time. Another employee, Richard, has been there for quite some time as well, and they have always been happy to assist with all our needs. They typically receive 150+ letters a week for us, often times more (we ran a marketing company out of there for a while) and we've never had a single letter go missing, and of course one of the great benefits is that you can check your box 24/7. I think this is one of those services that one usually just uses the one closest to their business or residence, and typically don't expect a high level of customer service. At least that is how I always looked at it. But this place has always been exceptional. The owners have also always been friendly. It's always easy for me to engage in conversation with the employees, which actually makes it a lot nicer than going to the USPS where I'm just another person in line that needs to be dealt with. My 5 years of daily positive experiences here should make it clear that they do consistently provide good customer service. I wouldn't listen to the haters. I stopped in this morning to ship back a prepaid package. I had already taped up the box, but in my haste, I forgot to include a necessary document. I asked Tim, who was cordial at this point, if he happened to have a knife and tape and if it would be okay for me to use them to open the box and reseal it. I also told him I had my own knife and tape in the car if there would be an issue, but he said no problem. He hands me a box cutter, I open the box, drop the paper in, he takes the package, tapes it up. I hadn't attached the postage yet either because I didn't know if taping it directly to the box was preferred or waiting and using one of those clear pouches is the best route, but Tim told me to cut the page down a bit, and we would just taape it to the box. Everything was cool, until he asked me if I was paying cash. "Oh, I thought this was all prepaid and good to go...?" And this is when things changed. Tim looks at me, annoyed, and says "Let me explain to you how this works: you bring the package in, I scan it, we're good to go. That didn't happen did it? Tape costs money, knives cost money, my time costs money..." to which I replied, "Yeah, and I told you I had a knife and tape in my car if there was going to be a problem." At no point in the process did he say there would be any sort of charge until this moment at the very end. I understand his point about it not being a 1-2-3 process, but before we even started, I clearly stated I have my own stuff and can do this on my own, if need be. Tim cut my response short and said curtly, "I'm going to keep this moving for you, but for next time, have it all ready." And took the box in a huff, handed me my receipt, and told me to have a nice day in a real sarcastic manner." I was taken aback. It was like a complete turnaround. The dude seemed laid back and fine until I asked one question about the prepaid process. Honestly, if he had been less of an asshole about the charge, I probably would have paid it because, while I did say I could do it myself, he had helped me out and I understand things can get confused on occasion. Tim has 2 bad reviews for similar behavior. I understand people have bad days, but damn! You work with customers. Don't be a dick. read more

Unfortunately some of the employees at this location are awful. The employee I was dealing with, Tim, gave me a "Jesus Christ" exclamation under his breath, after huffing and puffing the whole time while I was trying to decide if paying $100 for a $150 laptop is worth it. He first complained about not being able to read the zip code off my phone, amongst other inconveniences to him. While I was there another employee was rude to an older lady and she told him straight out he's being rude. When I confronted the Tim guy with the fact he's now in 2 bad Yelp reviews, he acted incredulous, and when I told him that he shouldn't say Jesus Chris under his breath to a customer, he said he doesn't know what I'm talking about and if I want I should talk to his manager. He basically accused me of lying! The manager heard my complaint and was friendly and asked what he could do for me. I told him he can coach this Tim guy to treat customers better and take his frustrations to the back room. I'm not sure that will happen though, since there is an earlier bad review about the same Tim and he's still employed there behaving the same way. If he were my employee, he'd be fired right now. I like helping locally owned businesses in my neighborhood but at the expense of getting treated this way. Message to the owner of this location: time to hire some new customer service employees and raise the bar on what customer service means. For now I'm taking my shipping needs elsewhere. read more

I went to this store today based on the good reviews on Yelp and could not have been more unhappy! I have a small side business making candles and needed to get a candle out today as I had promised the client I would ship her order by the weekend. I had already packed a 12 oz jar candle in a small box, surrounded it with packing peanuts and packed it very tightly. The package was very light. When I got to the store, I was helped by a very gruff, rude, older gentleman who barked out orders to me. When he found out I was shipping glass, he freaked out and insisted he would have to re-pack it or it would break. I honestly felt it would have been fine in my small box, but I was exhausted from a busy week and just wanted to get it done, so I said okay. He then informed me the ground shipping would be $20!! I just about passed out. I said, seriously, that is the cheapest you have? He said yes. If I had not been so tired and had been thinking clearly, I would have just told him to shove it and gone to my neighborhood post office. He also charged me $7 for an old cardboard box he pulled out of his back room and for extra peanuts. I felt completely ripped off and angry. $27 to ship a small candle? That is highway robbery. What also puzzles me is that when I moved cross country in 2009, the UPS shop in Portland shipped my large boxes of stuff for very reasonable prices that were cheaper than the post office. A friend of mine suggested it might be that this is a private UPS shop and not the actual shipping center, which explains the high prices. But who would want to be gouged this way?? I should have known something was up when I saw the half empty parking lot and that there was only one other person in the store on a Saturday afternoon. I have been a customer of George's UPS Store on Mesa for years. He always makes it easy and goes the extra effort to solve customer problems. I have a House Account which speeds up all transactions because I pay at the end of month. He and his staff act as shipping counselors to assist me with the correct decision on shipping. Recently, I received a 109x54x13 crate weighing 186lbs. George and staff assisted in uncrating AND delivered the art to my house at NO EXTRA CHARGE. We use the Mesa Drive UPS store as our mailing address and a place to receive business and personal packages so that they are not left on the front door of our house. I have no complaints. I used to frequent this location; however I'm done. The customer service (or lack there of really) has been horrendous. The manager or assistant manager with the brown hair and pony tail has been there the last two times I went and was absolutely rude. On the latest visit he said "Let's hurry this along so I can start my day. I have a lot of things to do." I'm sorry but is helping your customers not on that list? His attitude was not a great way for me to start my day and he needs to get it together or get out of the customer-service focused industry. George, I'm a neighbor and good customer. I'd like to share with you that your employee Tim is treating customers badly. I showed up on Saturday morning, couple minutes before 10 - which I've never done. I had a package with prepaid postage and was going to drop it off. I. Was prepared to wait the 2 minutes. I had waved to get Tim's attention to ask about dropping it off. He waited til 10 am to unlock the door and approach me. And that's completely fine, no problem. All good there. But then before I had a chance to say anything, he rudely yells that "Although the store opens at 10am OR LATER it's really OR LATER" because "he has things to do (like vacuum and other things)" and for me to "remember that in the future and do not show up at 10am". I am not joking. I am quoting him VERBATIM. This is what he actually said. ZERO points for Customer Service. ZERO points for him yelling at a customer before even asking why I was there. I always have a really great experience any time I come into this UPS Store location. Today I went in to deliver all of my family's Christmas gifts and I was completely unprepared.... I had the wrong size box, no supplies, and had not addressed anything. The associate who helped me was extremely patient in assisting me with my shipment. He prepared the box, packed all my items carefully and walked through all my options for shipment and insurance. This really was just the least stressful experience I've had when trying to get a package out the door... which was a pleasant surprise in the middle of the typical "holiday rush." I highly recommend using this UPS Store; it is in a pretty convenient location, is very organized, and has a really nice staff! read more

I live out of state and needed to get my aunt's antique china shipped circa 1835 across the country. George quoted a very reasonable price. However two plates were cracked upon arrival and recipient reported that they were placed on top of each other with nothing inbetween--no bubble wrap, as other smaller plates had. George indicated this is not how they were supposed to be packed. I do not recommend trusting with any valuables. Heartbroken. read more
