This review is about a life saver. This man appeared out of nowhere and saved my day, like the Good freaking Samaritan. Picture this - Oakland, 2014. A woman's father is going into surgery early, and she is off to the hospital to be there. She jumps in her car and turns the key - noooooooooooooo! The battery was dead because she foolishly forgot to turn off the lights after she had left the hospital parking lot earlier that morning. What to do?! She is sad and anxious and just wants her car to start so she can visit her daddy. All seems lost until she looks in her rear view mirror. There, like a shining beacon in the darkest night, is a huge UPS truck delivering to her loft building. "Nooooooo" she thought. "He couldn't possibly..." "Excuse me! You can't give someone a jump with that thing, can you?" "Your car dead? You off to work?" "No, the hospital. My dad is going into surgery." "No problem. I'll be right back." This guy might as well have been wearing a brown cape! He helped push her car into position and jump started it so that the woman could be on her way to the hospital. Good people are out there. This place has the Worst customer service Ever!!!! They're rude and unprofessional and I do NOT recommended using them for anything. I also witnessed some idiot Male Service Representative become rude with a female customer. It's the most insane environment I've seen in years. Its apparent management and they're employees do not comprehend the value of excellent customer service skills, or simply being nice to the public. This just happened an hour ago. The young Hispanic guy who "helped" me is an a-hole. First off I got there 45 minutes before closing. I'm patiently waiting in line, I'm the next person up. I tell the young short Hispanic guy I have two separate packages that I want to send to two separate locations. I already have my items in the box. He proceeds to tell me "You have to purchase a box to package this box in." I am beginning to get confused, why must I purchase a box to put my prepackaged box in it. Because I just want to ship it off, I agree, and say, "Okay, whatever." He proceeds to ask me, "What's the zip code where your shipping it to?" I give him the zip code, seconds later he tells me that to ship off this one small box it would be $48 to the state of Washington. With no rush delivery or insurance. I am really confused, because it's only $13 through USPS online. I ask him how much would it cost to send through USPS he told me it would cost $28! I began to think he didn't want to help me because that price was ridiculously high. And this is for only one package! I hadn't even gotten to the second box. I leave and go to a different UPS location 20 minutes away. Long story short, for both packages one to Washington and the other to Minnesota cost me $35 at the second UPS store location that I went to. I want to report him, I don't know his name, but I will find out, or I hope his superiors see this. He purposely inconvenienced me and had me go out of my way during commute hours to get to a second location before 6 o'clock, the time all locations in a 30 mile radius of me closed. I even left work early to make sure I got there on time to ship my package off, and for him to be that lazy and not want to do his job is unacceptable. I was there and prepared way before closing time. So don't go to this location, you may encounter the lazy short Hispanic guy. Laughably bad customer service. I tried two visits in a week because of convenient location, and I encountered two different employees. On each visit I had a relatively straightforward Amazon return box. The employees couldn't be bothered to help me and had no answers to my questions. The insult to injury was being charged when I requested help taping a box shut. The end result was twofold: I left with my box unshipped and I will never return to this location. Remarkably bad customer service. HIGHLY NOT recommended. Was very stressed about making sure package that was being held here was not yet returned to sender. It took me literally 4 hours and 25 calls just to get someone to help me. First I spoke with Daniel, who was great and helpful, but unable to answer my question. He said to leave my number and the manager will call me back. Over an hour later, no call. I called them and was able to get the manager on the line. As she was helping me, our call disconnected. I then spent another 30+ minutes on hold trying to get her back on the line to get a confirmed answer to my question. Her response, "I told you it was fine already, then you hung up on me!" We were disconnected mid-call, I never got a clear answer, and then she was angry at me for calling back?? Very kind response for a store manager. Will not be moving any more of my mail through this location, or using it for any other business needs. read more

Ever wonder how a UPS could have a low rating? Because they talk down to you, overcharge, and are shady! Went in to get fingerprinted for Oakland school district which has a set price. This UPS Store wanted to charge $15 over. When I asked why it would be so much more than OUSD said, they could not explain why, and one of their employees Daniel was just outright rude. He shouldn't be working at that job if he hates it so much. I ended up talking to someone who said the manager was out of the country for 6 weeks. Left and got fingerprinted elsewhere. read more

The one-star rating is because the manager, Jeremy, accused me of lying to him multiple times and charged me for fees that were not stated before. After being told they could not charge to a UPS account, they instructed me they now require pre-paid shipping labels from account holders. I asked an associate, "If they email me a shipping label, can I print it in the store?" She said, yes I could borrow their computer and print it without any mention of fees. After waiting 30 minutes for the email, I printed the label for them and upon check-out, Jeremy stated he was going to charge me almost $3 just to print the 1 sheet of paper. When I told him that the other associate did not tell me there was a fee (otherwise I would've used my 30 minutes to drive to my printer!) he said, "Yes she did, I heard her." When I tried to explain that I was not lying to him over $3 and she really did not tell me, he still insisted that I was lying and that I had to pay or he would not ship my item. Great mangerial skills. Really?? If you're the kind of buisness that will accuse customers of lying over misleading and unexplained $3 fees, then I'll take my business to the USPS where they are cheaper and (can you believe it?) friendlier! read more

I've only had good experiences here. The people who run it are friendly and the service has always been fast. They are good about shipping packages which I've done a few times here. My main use for the store is for receiving packages through a UPS store mailbox since they have someone to sign for packages during business hours from 8:30-6 pm on weekdays. I don't get that many packages normally, but receiving packages is a problem: I'm at work during package delivery hours and which means I'm not at home to receive one; my work has a policy against receiving personal packages; and all the shippers' offices are far away which makes it hard to pick up packages. I reluctantly paid the fee for a mailbox here since I don't have any better option. To their credit, I've never had a problem receiving packages since and they are always very friendly while providing good service. I can't resist putting a little rant in against workplaces that prohibit receiving packages at work. Exactly how do you expect this to save you money and work resources? The reason people want to ship to work is that they're always there and aren't at home to receive them. What is cheaper? Having a receptionist sign for and distribute an occasional package? Or is it cheaper to have people skipping work to try and catch the delivery person at home? Or cheaper for them leaving work early or in the middle of the day to go to a shipper's facility? Who is paid more, the receptionist or the people who are missing work because they can't receive packages at work? (And no, most employees will not pay a monthly fee like me to get an outside mailbox.) Some workplaces are realistic about these options and allow personal packages to be received at work. It's time to update those policies from the 1950s where Susie Homemaker was always at home for domestic chores and receiving packages. read more

This would be a no star review, but yelp doesn't have that option. **Message to Owner** Your fees are egregious and your customer service is awful. You should be embarrassed and ashamed. I knew people hated UPS, but I never really knew why before today. I had to pick up a package from a UPS store, I made the mistake of using the one on Franklin St in Oakland. I checked my tracking # online and found that my package had been delivered and left at the "front desk" and was signed for by someone named Jeremy in the morning. By this time it was the late afternoon. I call the store and get Jeremy on the phone, who I find out later is the manager. He is rude and doesn't seem to understand that I'm asking if my package is there. He then changes course and says that my parcel is there and that it will be $5 to go and pick it up. That's right folks, $5 to pick up my own delivery. I ask him why and he says it is because they are providing me a service by letting me pick it up at their store, which is a franchise. When I get to the store, I'm ready for the person to wait on me to change my mind about this place. Jeremy, was waiting on another customer. The woman that waited on me, Kali, was just as rude as her manager. I was told that I didn't receive a call because they tried the phone number on the box and couldn't reach anyone. Turns out, the number on the UPS label was completely incorrect. I don't know if that is the fault of the company I ordered from or UPS, the phone number on my invoice is correct. I asked if Kali could bring my package out to my car, considering that I was paying a $5 fee to pick up my parcel. Kali did help me out to the car, but not without being snide and tossing my box marked "FRAGILE" into my trunk. As she stormed away, I said "thank you very much" to a cold back. read more

Busy location but nice telephone customer service. Staff couldn't help but was friendly. Overall, UPS tracking on shipped items are a pain if ur not home during delivery. Driver kept writing "void" where customers can authorize driver to leave package on the 1st two attempts. The 3rd attempt, package was sent back to originator. Calling 1-800 sucks. read more

I couldn't have been happier using the store today (June 7, 2016) when I returned a package to Amazon and needed a label printed from a PDF. I was served promptly and pleasantly by Pratistha, who showed me where I could print the file, which I had on my thumb drive; the charge of $2 to use a computer and 35 cents for the printing was fair, particularly since she made the process easy and fast. She sealed the box, applied the label, and gave me a receipt with the tracking number. Totally easy...a delight. Three years ago I wrote the following favorable review. I'm grateful to this store. I sent my daughter there to return an item with a pre-printed UPS address label. She couldn't close the box, forgot to bring the label, and was running late for an appointment. Unlike another reviewer here, I didn't think it was unreasonable for them to charge a couple of dollars to use their computer for her to log onto her email account with their computer and print the prepaid address label. They sealed her box and attached the label for no charge and she was on her way to her appointment in just a few minutes. Since I wasn't there, I can't say that they project a helpful attitude, but to hear my daughter tell it, the guy there truly helped her. read more

Originally, I found this place because it was the closest place to my work to ship xmas gifts from other than USPS, and really who in their right mind braves USPS during the holidays. I went to this store to return a wireless router to Verizon per Verizon's instructions. Verizon has a corporate account with UPS that allows you to return equipment to them without needing a label or box. Take it to the UPS store and they are supposed to box it up for you and send it on its merry way. I have done this already a few times when I lived in So Cal. The girl who was working there on 10/12/13 around 2:00pm (didn't get her name) was adamant that this was not something that they did. She wouldn't even look in the computer to look this info up. I had to ask her 3 times before she actually walked over to the computer to supposedly look up the info. I saw her type something into the computer then she proceeded to tell me again that they didn't have an account with Verizon. I walked out the store and called The UPS Store on Grand. In less than 2 mins the woman who helped me (I believe her name was Araceli) was able to find the info and told me to bring it in. She admitted she had never returned anything to Verizon before but at least she actually took the time to look up the info before turning me away. If it was so easy for her to find this information in their system I have a hard time believing that the chick at the Franklin store actually looked up anything. I took the router to the store on Grand and they were able to get everything done for me in no time. If you want rude and lazy customer service go to this store. If you want someone to actually take the time to try to help you go to the store on Grand. read more

I was there to drop off a Dyson fan due to a manufacturer recall. When I presented my recall document for the item to be shipped, the woman behind the counter did not know what to do with it. She insisted that we leave the fan with her and we would be emailed a tracking number. She refused to give us any acknowledgement or receipt for the fan, which is not a cheap item. Did she really think I would just leave something that expensive there and walk out without a tracking number or receipt? She refused to process the shipment while we were in the store, even though there was no one else in there. Why didn't she just say she didn't know how to process the shipment or ask the manager for help? Most unprofessional and lazy. read more

Went into UPS on Friday to get fingerprinted and obtain a passport photo for BBS. I was able to get the passport photo, but the fingerprinting ended up being a kerfuffle about the form I had from BBS. I was told by both retail associates that the form was wrong. The numbers on the form and the number that they have is different; and I have the wrong form. I was treated as though I had brought in an illegal substance to sell and consume. They smirked and rolled their eyes because I, yes, I had the wrong forms. However, when I spoke to BBS, I was told that someone else had called with the same problem, and to leave and try someplace else. Went to another establishment and wait for it... I was fingerprinted within a few minutes and was able to send it off. They were snarky and ill-informed. I am not trying to think there was some nefarious reason. Do not go here if you need fingerprints. But if you want to take a passport photo, then by all means do so. But I will not under any circumstances patronize a place where they won't even try to do the right thing. Done! read more
