You may not think something as innocuous as a local The UPS Store could be notable in one's life. Shipping company stores with mailbox services blend into the millieu of things to do . . . and other necessities of carrying on with life. Like most, I first go to a business for a business need. What keeps me going back is good service and most of all, good people. In general, I like FedEx Office for overnighting papers, US Post Office for general mail and large packages, and for everything in between and for actual packing---I prefer UPS and The UPS Store. There are The UPS Store locations by the dozens all over the SF Bay Area . . . many in San Mateo County alone. The one I settled on in the Laurelwood area of San Mateo City was previously a Mail Boxes Etc. location, you can tell because the array of mailboxes have "MBE" on the metal box letter doors. The senior employee at this location is named William. He's worked there for over a decade. He has treated me respectfully, kindly, and professionally the scores of times I have procured his UPS services---always with a smile. William is extremely knowledgeable about packing requirements, domestic and international, shipping laws, and not only the costs of shipping via UPS, but also of his competitors (FedEx and US Post Office). I go to this business because William has earned my respect and trust, and I believe he will go beyond the call of duty if I need him to for my packing and shipping needs. This UPS store is just a hop skip from my work. I've always been helped promptly & politely. The two men who work there always seem to lend an extra hand whenever possible. Plus very rarely is there a wait & the store is always meticulous. read more

On New Years Eve after picking up my wife at SFO after her return trip to family in Asia, we stopped to pick up pastries at Dianda's Pastry in the same shopping center as the Little Hunan Restaurant where we stopped in for a light dinner prior to driving back home(about 3 hours away). The soup and the vegetables were just what we needed and we were thoroughly satisfied with the food Little Hunan provided us. When we arrived at home, my wife, jet lagged as she was and as tired as I was, found that she had left her bag in the restaurant. We were concerned but called the restaurant the next day and were informed that they did have her bag. They delivered her bag to William at the nearby UPS shipping store about a mile away and together William and the restaurant returned her bag (with passport and other important items) to us in tact and expeditiously. With reliable shippers like William and with good food and fine service nearby I can think of no better place to ship from or eat if and when I am in the area again. Came here for a notary two days in a row. Guy behind the desk was very nice and helpful. Notaries are $10 per signature which I believe is the norm. Conveniently located down the road from my office so was a short walk. read more

Avoid if you're in a rush. There's almost always a line of people and only one person is allowed in at a time now. Yeah I get there's covid. But everyone who comes here seems to have no idea what they want or how to do it. The one Employee there has to take what seems like forever to help each clueless person in line. This location is my favorite! I've tired to go to other locations and I end up regretting it. My family was in the packaging business so I'd say I have higher standards that most, and William definitely meets them! I was very pleased with the service I recently received at the UPS store at 3182 Campus in San Mateo. I came to this location to organize, copy and mail a series of complex real estate documents. I was particularly impressed with the help that the local UPS representative, William, provided. He went way out of his way to assist me with my task and to advise me on the best way to organize and send the documents to the Title Company. I have been at this UPS store several times for various services and I have always been impressed by William's cheerful attitude and willingness to help the customer. read more

The guy running this place comes in when he pleases, so if you expect it to be open at 8:30am as advertised, don't bother showing up til closer to 9 or you'll be waiting in your car. He is short, if not rude, unfriendly, etc, etc, etc. This fool should know better than to work near customers. I've never worked in customer service, because I am aware that I would too often struggle not to lose my shit on customers, so I get it. Why is it that these individuals that work in establishment that deal with the public are so rude. After visiting the UPS store to return packages from Amazon, the gentleman behind the counter argued to me and the remainder of the line about Amazon return process. Amazon states bring your reruns to UPS and they will take it from there He stated Amazon was wrong, so slapped a sticker on the product and said "I will just send it like this." Absolutely no protection of the product, I will be surprised if I even get my refund. Ug!!! read more

Fine services for prepaid drop off but NEVER on time. Supposed to open at 8:30 am but never does, sometimes 40 minutes late. Big waste of people's time. Very poor customer service. Came here to return a AT&T Receiver and was told it can't be done due to the store ran out of special boxes. I told them why can't they use the box that it came in. I canceled the order to late so the receiver fits perfectly in the original mailing box. The staff still said it can't be done because they need a special box. I then asked whether they can keep the receiver and wait until they received new boxes and then send it. She said no to that too and directed me to the UPS Store in Bovet. The attendant at the Bovet store said no problem and put a label on the original mailing box and shipped it. He also said that he has no idea why the UPS store at Campus Drive would say that they need a special box. read more

I have been using this UPS location frequently since 2004. I recently read the one bad review here and realized that I have been taking it for granted; that review made me realize that I should appreciate the store for what it is and tell others. William has made this UPS store a gem. He is low key and one of the most effective professionals in the area. He knows and remembers his costumers. Not just by name but by their job and/or their family. In every circumstance he makes sure that the customer is getting the best deal, and the fastest service. He is always ready to make your experience as easy as possible by taping things up, suggesting better packing options, etc. I have had many, many experiences over the past 14 years where I run in to the store stressed, with a pressing deadline and William calmly assists me in getting whatever it is done that I need done. I always walk out of the store having had a very pleasant experience both socially and professionally. William has made this location a true boon to the San Mateo professional community and he deserves our gratitude. read more

I'm not the type to leave a review but this is the best UPS Store I've been to. How did I not know about this location earlier! I live in San Francisco but work in San Mateo. Dropping off packages here is a breeze where I can just come in, drop it off and leave where I can trust this guy to take care of it to get it to where it needs to go. When I need to ship something, this guy doesn't beat around the bush and give me all options I want from cheap and slow, to getting important documents there the next day. The worker here is great and honest. Will be coming here for all my shipping needs. read more

They charge 2.50 to tape your amazon box. Took it to another location and no charge. I've taken amazon stuff here and they've stuck the tape on without charging so not sure what their official pricing is. read more

Why is it that every time I walk in the door here I walk out frustrated? At some point I'll learn, but I keep thinking it will be better and it's so convenient. They can't use my company's UPS account number to ship something to my company's office. What? Really? I have been charged for adding an additional piece of tape to something. Everything seems overpriced. This time, I actually took my box back and will be shipping through USPS. It was all just too much trouble. I'll come here when I have a pre-label package to drop off, but anything that requires interaction, just no. I'm feeling generous, so I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1. I reserve that for companies I think should go out of business and I do appreciate the convenience of the location. Just be forewarned. read more

Horrible! I had 2 packages put in two medium brown boxes and taped up. Without postage he charged me $38. Don't ever go here. Huge rip off.
