A+, 100%, will definitely be going back. I purchased a large, curved monitor (fragile) from a 3rd party seller on Amazon and (stupidly) didn't keep the packaging. It stopped working after about a week, and I asked to return it. I was advised to go to this UPS store. The employee at this store was up front about pricing, was eager to help pack up the monitor with UPS-provided materials, had a good sense of humor, and shipped it back to the seller on time. Got my refund earlier than expected. As a bonus, there's a classic blue postal box immediately outside the store. I mailed some bills while I was there via USPS. Don't waste your time at the post office, it's not worth the pittance you'll save and the frustration you'll endure. read more

Yesterday I took a printing project to UPS and I didn't think I would be able to do it on my own. I was happy when one of the assistants, Julio, came up to me and offered his help! Julio was professional, patient and understanding. He explained how the control panel worked. He stayed to set it up correctly, did a test sample and turned what was going to be a headache into a pleasure. Manager, Carlos, is rude! Made my daughter cry while trying to get a package. He was unable to hand over a package due to UPS rules, but was a complete insensitive jerk. I will NEVER use this location again. Also, when attempting to arrange pickup of a package, an employee at their location told me to contact the sender for a code, but could not name or describe the code and that turned out to be because there is no code. This review involves not only this UPS store, but the UPS corporate office and claims department. NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVERRRRRR, send anything valuable through UPS and definitely don't buy insurance for any item you ship! I shipped my desktop computer on December 8th, and when I received it on December 12th, It was broken. Thankfully, UPS provides insurance for expensive items, so I immediately began the claims process. After a few calls back and forth with the UPS store manager at Almar Dr (Carlos), I was starting to realize how insanely difficult it was going to be to get my money back. Not only is the manager at the Almar Dr. location unwilling to provide consistent helpful support for a ridiculous situation like mine, he consistently informed me that my claim was on his desk and that he was "getting to it". For multiple weeks I was told by the manager that I was going to get a call from UPS corporate to setup a time to review the desktop. I was never called. So instead, I was recommended by the manager to pay the repair cost out of pocket and hold out hope that the UPS corporate would send me a check eventually. I am a 20 year old broke college student with no job (at the moment). Repairing the computer cost me 660$ out of pocket. As you can imagine, It was very important that I resolve this situation so that I could continue living as a broke college student. Later, I found out from Carlos that UPS corporate had apparently called "my number" and scheduled a pick up of my computer. They then proceeded to pick up a package from an unknown location and realizing that this package was in fact not my computer, they threw it away. It's now February 13th and after probably 30 total calls between the UPS Santa Cruz store and UPS corporate office, I still have yet to receive my insurance check to pay for my computer. It seems like every person working at the UPS claims department office is actively lying to cover their own asses and hold out as long as possible to get me to go away. At this point I'm not sure if the people working at the UPS claims department are too stupid to sort this situation out or too greedy to actually give me my check. Here's an example of the stupidity of these people. On the second of February I was finally told that the check was going to be shipped out to the UPS store! I was thrilled that they were finally going to do their job! After checking in again with the cooperate office I found out a little more than a week later that that person lied to me and the check hadn't even been written yet... To summarize, DO NOT USE UPS to ship items that you want to insure. The manager of the store isn't helpful in helping you resolve your case in a timely manner, AND The UPS corporate office and claims department is filled with idiots who are apparently able to provide completely misleading information while getting paid to act like they are doing work to resolve claims like mine. read more

Went to ship some items. The Clerck Salomon (that's the name he gave me) was nor wearing a mask or gloves. I asked him why, He told me "I don't think we have any in the back". I asked if they were given any type of protection he said that they don't get any. I have a feeling he was lying. When he asked me to verify my transaction I had to ask him to step back which he barely did. I felt unsafe and I'm sure that he could care less about anything that was going on in the store. I always use the UPS in Santa Cruz on Mission. I'm right next to it, so it's way more convenient than Fedex or even the post office, a lot of the time. The workers are always super friendly. Granted by this time we having a working relationship. But not kidding, they are professional and get the job done. It's more expensive than mailing sometimes or just printing it out at the library. However, the library was closed until recently and they couldn't figure out how to use their printers. So off to UPS it was. And the reliable hours until later in the evening, unlike the post office. They are doing the West Side a solid. Can just pack and send some cute gift I find at the adjacent stores by 11th Hour and send it to my far-away friends or some treat for my mom. I've never had a problem, always had someone offer to help me, or somehow explain the services to me. Thanks, UPS! read more

I've been shipping packages at this store for years, both UPS and USPS. A few weeks ago, the sole clerk working here -- I believe his name was Brandon -- refused to take my prepaid USPS package, telling me that the store accepted USPS shipments only from customers who rented mailboxes. He claimed that this had always been the rule. No, Brandon, it has never been the rule, and it is not the rule now. This same store once charged me a couple dollars for a mailing receipt for a USPS package! I fell for that one just once. Brandon's random rule making meant I had to drive a good distance to drop off a prepaid package that could have -- had it been just a tad smaller -- been dropped into a USPS mailbox, so I was annoyed. His boss should be annoyed, too. Because of Brandon, I now take all my shipping and notary business to the UPS stores in Scotts Valley or Soquel. Much nicer, smarter, more helpful people work in those stores. read more

I've dropped a few packages here in the past. Usually just Amazon returns. This time I had a very time sensitive document to ship that was going to cost me $150 in late fees for every day it was not received. The document contained a very important check. I paid for overnight delivery. It did not arrive overnight as promised. Several days went by and I was told different stories depending on who I talked to. The first employee told me that it was because I did it so late in the day as it showed the label wasn't created until 5:30 pm (my transaction occurred at 0930 am). Then I was told by another employee that it was UPS fault who flew it to its destination but didn't offload it and it went there and back twice. Third employee days later could only assume that it was lost. The days and work it cost me to fix this poor customer service and cancel the check etc made it clear I won't be using this location in the future. Bear in mind it was only going from Santa Cruz to Southern California so weather logistics etc would not have any effect on this at all. read more

They do charge a premium And I heard that some services are VERY PRICY soooo ask first If you have a budget . I just pay for the convenience. I have only encountered courteous and helpful staff . This is a second review after a package was damaged in delivery and I was told I couldn't claim my insurance because I had packed the item (but I was not told this when I paid extra for the insurance). I kept calling the UPS store on Almar in Santa Cruz and the management took my issue up the chain and pushed until I got a full reimbursement for my item. Had them mail and pack a gift for me in March 2022. Package did not arrive. I contacted them in person with receipt for items as well as shipping receipt. First said they would not cover as I packed it. Reminded Miquel that he was holding receipt for their packing services, in addition cost of itemS including sales tax They made copies said they would contact me in two weeks after tracked. No response back. Contacted again after a month, they stated no answer. Short of the story is I kept contacting them, months went by I went in and called each person told me their name was Miguel. I requested the owner call me and was told he was a flake and only came in when he wanted to. I knew this not to be true as I know the owner. RUDE CROOKS! I purchased a box to ship my item in and immediately he says that will be $12. I said wait a minute I called and you said the box was $7. He said oh that is if you pack it yourself. I can sell you the box but "you have to leave and pack it". So I went out on the sidewalk and packed it (fun telling people they wouldn't let me pack it in the store - I am sure they lost a few customers that way). THEN I asked them on the phone if they ship using UPS standard rates or if they add a surcharge (I also asked this on the phone) they said "standard" both times. My total shipping charge was over $5 more than I calculated at a heavier weight online. The explanation "we get that all the time, our rates are more accurate here". Not wanting you to start packing up your shipment before he weighs it because you might disagree with the shipping price? Hmmmmm.... Being ultra-rude to the delivery guy that is trying to deliver some stuff to your business? Hmmmmm.... Refusing to ship a box of wine for a guy, and sure, maybe they don't do that, but why treat the guy like a child in a beyond-condescending tone? Hmmmm.... How many red flags do you need see, while waiting in line for over 15 minutes with 2 people in front of you, before you pull out your iphone, and check out Yelp to see if they can shed any light? Well, glad I did - not the only one with this experience - I picked up my stuff, and headed out. I suggest you do too. Ok. I would like to point out first of all that these 5 stars belong to this location (next to Safeway on Mission) and this location only! Having been umm...treated less than fairly? Sure, we'll be diplomatic about that ;) by other UPS stores, my first time here was a complete shock. They were friendly, fast, and as they will also do USPS shipping, extremely helpful by showing me the price comparison for EVERYTHING I wanted to ship. Sometimes UPS was cheaper, sometimes it wasn't - it seemed like they genuinely wanted me to ship my items in the most cost efficient and time efficient way possible. I love that when I go in they are conversational, but not so much that it interferes with their speediness. Yes, it is not exactly an in/out procedure - but it is much faster than the Post Office, Fed Ex, or any other UPS store that I have patronized. Also, they make sure to ask if my shipments are time sensitive or not (to let me know what the best deal is), and rather than trying to sell me the biggest box that they can they offer me options on packaging to help me save money. Although at times they do seem a bit understaffed, I have found that in those situations they either multi-task by assisting multiple customers as they can, or if that isn't possible, they at least acknowledge the fact that there is indeed a line and make sure that those who are waiting are aware that they have been seen and will be helped. I am not sure if I have only dealt with their very best, because whenever I come in needing to buy a box, not only do they (as I mentioned) help me pick the most cost-efficient one, they pack it for me. And I am pretty sure they don't charge me extra. The most I've ever spent on a box there is $5. Anywho, I would say if you need to ship something and aren't quite sure how to do it in the most cost-effective way, go to THIS UPS (not the one on Soquel. Stay awaaaay from that one!) and they will help you figure it out with a smile. read more

Not sure what all the hysterical reviews are about. They must not be about the Almar location because I cant really see any of the current employees behaving that way, and I have been using heir PO Box service for more than a year. I visit there at least once a week, often as many as 4 times, and have never had a negative experience, nor observed one. I have had one of the managers keep the store open with a call ahead on an emergency shipping item that needed to get in that day. I enjoy coming here, the employees do a great job. Its way easier than dealing with the apathy at USPS. I was going to give this review 4 stars, because, really, its a shipping store and those are hard to get excited about, but after re-reading my review, you kind of have to give a 5 star if they are gonna go out of their way to help. I chose UPS because I needed a Courier service that would guard my passport with their lives. I sent in my passport to the Indian Consulate, in order to get my Visa to go to India, and UPS is the means in which it gets there. First of all. There is no reason to get passport photos here. NONE whats so ever. Its 20 dollars just for two photos. Plus the two times that I have been here, the person who has taken the pictures does not know what their doing. The first time I took photos here the store was in the background of photo, instead of a clean white background. The second time, the photos came out fuzzy. Except this time, they told me of other places to go to get better and cheaper pictures done. Larry's Photos 15 dollars for two...Longs Drugs....6.999 BAMMMM! Overall, this UPS is not bad. Their customer service is pretty good. And they are always willing to explain how to fill out documents while smiling! I gave them a challenge by asking them to basically tape/ package two unmatched boxes in size and shape together for a return for Amazon ( bc I was too cheap to buy a bigger box) Jason accepted the challenge and packaged it up like no other. He made the two different boxes look like one, it was impeccable. Besides their great packaging techniques this ups is pretty reliable - I have sent plenty of things out via this store and I have had no problems thus far. I know I could bring anything in and it will be packaged and shipped out with few/ no complications.
