The Valley Project is one of my top two favorite tasting rooms in the Funk Zone. If you know me well, you definitely know the other one;) The Valley Project is doing something that nobody else in Santa Barbara is doing. 100% single varietal from one block of one vineyard. Risky, but a fun adventure. Winemaker and owner, Seth Kunin, is always looking for that one varietal from one of each of the SB AVAs to highlight in very small batches, so if you find one you love(and you will) be sure to buy a few. They have a wide open and sunny tasting room with lots of places to sit or you can stand at the bar. The staff is great. Be sure to ask for Brenna, Andrew or Kendall, all stellar. Robby only fills in when needed but you'll love him too. One of my favorite parts of their tasting room is the massive chalkboard mural of Santa Barbara's wine country on the two story wall behind the bar. I am told it took the artist three months to draw and it is absolutely incredible. You learn so much about the different growing regions and fun facts about SB just by staring at it. They also have samples of all of the different types of soil that grapes grow in. You'll get quite an education if you ask questions. They're dog friendly, as long as your dog is friendly of course:) I love to visit and taste as often as possible, hope to see you there! read more

The Valley Project is a beautiful venue with high ceilings and a bright/vibrant atmosphere. Mick and Jeff always makes our experience special. The tasting menu includes whites and reds. The wines are delicious. The Valley Project is a great spot for large groups such as bachelorette parties. Mick and Jeff are very attentive and knowledgeable about all the wines. Love love love the decor and the staff. Kinda like the wine. Nothing has ever stood out enough for me to buy a bottle, and yet I keep coming back to taste when I am in SB. So I guess I like the wine well enough. I think I keep hoping something will be interesting enough for me to purchase because I like the atmosphere so much. I saw the chalkboard art in a magazine and since then I was curious about the place. I finally had a chance to visit and it was very cool. The building was new and modern, the layout was nice and spacious, had lots of sun light from the large windows (I know it's not good for wine but they don't hade bottles out so it's ok) and they had a cool speaker system. I loved the wines and the man who took care of us was very nice. I would definitely like to come back when I visit SB in the future. read more

The Black Keys set the mood while the beautiful mural in the background and the lighting sets the stage for a relaxing experience. The owners responded immediately and offered to assist me directly and said they would be speaking with their staff. Although I have not yet had an in person experience with this place, I am giving the benefit of the doubt. I really enjoyed my experience at Anacapa; as a true SB Wino, having tasted over 120 SB wineries / Labels; Seth Kunin's new Label Anacapa will keep me coming back. The wine tells a great story; smaller batches, various appellations, this is not your Daddy's Kunin... it's a bit more daring, fun, variable, and worth a freaking look and taste. I really like this tasting room. I feel like it has gotten consistently better over the years. They have a great variety of both red and white wines - all very drinkable, no dump bucket necessary. On a hot day, try the Riesling. It's crisp and refreshingly dry. The staff are knowledgable and friendly. The ambiance is bright and lively. Large windows look out onto the bustle of the Funk Zone. I like getting cozy in the window seats with plush pillows, or staking out the community table when I am with a large group of friends. The feature I appreciate most is the giant mural of Santa Barbara Wine Country. It's a fun and educational experience for those not familiar with the geography of SB's microclimates. If you're on the Urban Wine Trail, The Valley Project should definitely be on your list of destinations. read more

I've been sitting here the last 5 mins and have yet to be greeted or helped. I started at the bar then sat down at an available table. Still no one walked over to help or greet us. The waitress finally finished her conversation with the couple she was talking to well before we walked in and looked over our way yet still said nothing. I walked to the bar and the waitress says we needed to order at the bar first. Well Brenna that's great, maybe had you greeted the new customers walking in and asked had we been here before or how you could help we would have know how this works. Smh. Very poor service. We've been here twice. First time I remember being fine - not great, not bad. Second time, we walked in and saw that the tasting menu was more whites than reds (we prefer reds) but since the place was empty (Sunday noon), we didn't feel right walking out. So we just shared a tasting. The person was really nice and informative. We sat by the window as we tasted and he even came out to pour for us which was really nice. (We usually just taste and go back to the counter for the next one.) It was a very nice experience. Too bad we didn't particularly like either of the wines tasted. Maybe next time one will hit the spot. Either way, AVA is a nice place to visit. read more

The space does feel utilitarian yet comfortable: a wonderful mural in chalk drawing out the wine area which is quite clever and informative. There is a large picnic like table and some seating. Service: Wine pourer was knowledgeable and friendly, however it was Saturday afternoon and as the Angelenos ascended (as they do on the weekend) we were forgotten. He did come back to apologize, but what to do? I used to pour wine and when you get swamped you can only do so much. A woman finished up with us and asked, "is there one (wine) you want to revisit?" Two thumbs up for her! Ended on the best note for me (yes, the chardonnay) continuing reading below to find out why. Food/drink: No food is offered, but of course wine by the glass and tastings. We opted the first flight. The wine was good and I LOVED the chardonnay aged in neutral barrels, I forgot the name. If you do not like oaky chardonnays (and a lot of folks fit in this catagory) try this wine. Summary: AVA like it's neighbor next door (Pali) are relatively new kids on the wine block. The wine was good, space friendly and unpretentious and the pourers accommodating. Would I return? Yes, when they get on board with the AXXESS card which is a downside they are not (as of this writing) on the AXXESS card. read more
