I came with 3 gal pals after a challenging morning hike, and we were seated in a cute outdoor patio. Our server was attentive and the service was also pretty efficient. This place is attached to a grab-and-go bakery next door, so they have great coffees, teas, and pastries (in addition to the brunch offerings). I ordered a London Fog. Unfortunately, I got a big pot of black tea instead. But I'm not even mad because it was very nice! (Especially mixed with milk). For brunch, I got the Cañada Breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage links, and a side salad. Honestly, everything was delicious! And well portioned! I stole bites of my friends' chicken and waffles and french toast: AWESOME! The chicken is super moist! The french toast is legit fluffy. No notes. This spot is a super great find if you're a local or traveling around the area. The pastries were fresh and the drinks (lattes and teas) were delicious! What an incredible find! After a refreshing hike in Edgewood Park with my friends Kimberly and Claudia, we decided to check out the Village Bakery and Cafe in Woodside. I'd heard good things, but nothing prepared me for this hidden gem. We initially thought the little cafe next door was the main restaurant, but it turns out they're two distinct (yet connected) establishments. I had made reservations for the restaurant, expecting a casual spot, but was pleasantly surprised by its upscale yet incredibly welcoming ambiance. The staff were all super friendly, and our outdoor seating reservation was perfect after our hike. Inside, I noticed white tablecloths and a truly refined atmosphere. Definitely not what I was expecting, but in the best way possible! Our waiter, Raymond, was a true standout. He was so attentive and gave us fantastic recommendations. I went with the thick French toast, topped with blueberry compote and a sweet cream. It was absolutely divine! Kimberly loved her chicken and waffles, and Claudia raved about the Cañada breakfast. The French toast, in particular, was a revelation: warm, crispy on the outside, and wonderfully soft and gooey inside. It was perfectly balanced, and the side of pork sausage paired beautifully. I also enjoyed a delicious latte that complemented the meal perfectly. Though we were too full to try dessert, the menu looked incredibly promising, and I'm already planning my return to sample some. Tuna tataki: excellent. lightly seared, sashimi-grade tuna with a ginger ponzu sauce. Heirloom Tomato Salad: ok. The flavors didn't quite work. Fried chicken: good; juicy and well-seasoned. The top secret hot sauce isn't that hot. Add a biscuit. Pork ribs with South Carolina mustard sauce. Tasted authentic to me, and I'm partial to Carolina style BBQ. Ravioli: fine-ish. We came to Village Bakery & Cafe for their Father's Day prix-fixe brunch and had a really nice time overall. The prix-fixe menu was a great deal and included a muffin, appetizer, entrée, and dessert. We also had a Bloody Mary and some Brut Rosé, and both were good. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. The restaurant was packed for Father's Day, with lots of families celebrating, which made for a fun atmosphere. We also loved the bar area, and after brunch we stopped by the bakery next door to pick up a few treats to take home. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is that the meal felt a little rushed. We were in and out in about an hour, including drinks and dessert. Our appetizer arrived almost immediately after the muffins were dropped off, before we'd really had a chance to enjoy them. Throughout the meal, empty plates tended to sit on the table longer than expected, and courses came out very quickly one after another. That said, everyone was friendly, and the manager was especially kind and attentive. I'm sure they were doing their best to keep things moving. The shakshuka was pretty decent combined with the delicious crispy bread, but the cinnamon roll was very dry and felt more like a dinner roll dough than a brioche. The decoration and atmosphere was sooo cute though, it has the settings for a perfect brunch spot, just wish the food was a little better. Wow! Stopped in Woodside for a quick break and discovered this cute little coffee spot. Got 2 coffees and a few pastries and it was around 40 dollars after tip. The pastries are proper French patisserie and the palmier cannot be missed! The coffee was okay and the latter was decent. GOOD LUCK FINDING PARKING. Came here for the viral giant marshmallow from TikTok. Ordered a hot chocolate to go with it, as well as a ham and cheese croissant. The hot chocolate was not good. It tasted extremely watered down and the marshmallow was just that--a giant marshmallow that wasn't anything special because of the terrible hot chocolate. I didn't finish it. The ham and cheese croissant had close to no cheese inside and just one piece of thicker cut ham. I liked the ham but my cheese? Nowhere to be found! The croissant itself was buttery and flaky in the best way, but I was surprised to find that the cheese inside was just a tiny piece, hardened to the point that no amount of reheating could revive it. Not to mention their ordering system between food and drinks is completely unorganized. This is one of the few brunch spots in the bay that also serves good espresso! I visited on a whim for brunch on a Saturday afternoon, and despite not having a reservation, I was seated with my husband in a few minutes. Staff were friendly and the dishes were high quality. The outdoor patio is perfect - shaded but bright. My almond croissant was wonderfully crunchy but moist, and my iced latte was delicious. My husband's chicken and waffle was tasty also. We love the Village Pub and were excited to try the Bakery. Unfortunately we were left disappointed by the food and service. Stracciatella do Buffalo Toast ($21): fantastic appetizer. Nicely prepared kale and fresh toasted bread. This was the best dish we tried. Rock Shrimp Linguine ($45): shrimp was cooked well, but the sauce was under seasoned and we couldn't taste the saffron at all. Disappointing for the price. Five-Layer Lasagna Bolognese ($30): good, but not great. Layers were a bit light on meat and the bolognese was bland. It was served on top of what seemed to be a pizza-style tomato sauce. Skillet Brownie ($14): great! We had a few odd interactions with the staff. When ordering the appetizer to share our waiter told us we "look like good eaters" and should order the soup as well. We passed since we were planning on dessert. Later, as our mains were being delivered, a waiter completely unrelated to our table came up and began telling a story about how monks lived longer in the old days because they drank beer instead of water. However, it took the waiter 20 minutes to greet us and pour us water - yes, 20 minutes. This was weird because they had lots of staff walking around who passed by us several times. We usually love dinner at the Village Bakery. Last night was simply awful -- so bad that we'll likely never go again. Their challenge is fundamental in that the service roles are so segmented that no one is overseeing the order. The order taker was too busy to listen. The drinks came after a 20 minute wait. The two ordered vegetable dishes did not arrive at all. My take -- after an order is taken, no one is responsible for managing the order to ensure that it all arrives at the table in appropriate timing. The Bakery needs a good manager to fine tune the staff to stay on top of the orders. As for the food, the ravioli arrived in an oily mess with only three or four ravioli with little inside them. The flat iron steaks were good but it sure would have been nice to have had our vegetable orders to go with them. We came home hungry and made a small nosh of a meal to tide us over. But the wait staff -- it feels like they rush you both during and at end of meal, make mistakes and forget things, and I don't feel they come across polished enough to be commensurate with the high-end ambiance and prices here. They also start cleaning things up before you're even done, in a rather rushed manner. So it doesn't feel like a nice, relaxed meal. By contrast the service at Village Pub is excellent/top-notch and also Buck's next door has great service. I just would expect a little more high-end service based on everything else here.
