My husband and I recently moved to Sycamore and every time we drive by it seems pretty busy so we thought we'd check it out! It definitely met our expectations and has a cute diner atmosphere. The service was good, no complaints there! The menu is huge and full of lots of options which can be a red flag but my meal was delicious. I did get a special which was a tofu and chickpea sweet chili plate with some added veggies and rice. It was a unique and tasty dish. It does look like their specials change every day and they had a long list of them so I think I'd be a little disappointed not to be able to get the same meal again! Stopped in here by "accident" a few months ago, had a late lunch, and was so impressed with every aspect of the experience that I vowed to come back for breakfast, which I did today. Had the chopped steak (10oz) and eggs, with hash browns, two over-easy eggs, and marble rye toast. Burger and eggs were prepared as ordered, as were the taters. Fellow diner had perfect traditional Eggs Benedict. There are four different benedicts on the menu. Service was friendly, helpful, and prompt. Coffee was refilled without having to ask. They have daily specials for each different meal time. I'm so glad they survived the troubles. So many mom and pops went out of business. It's a 30 mile drive down country roads to get to Sycamore, a thriving farm community where main street is still vibrant. But it's worth the trip, and if I'm not hungry when I roll through, I'll still pick up some of their excellent baked goods! read more

I would have to say they just lost a customer. The little girl who was our waitress was very rude. The people behind us said the same thing about her. We ordered 2 dinners with the side salad and also asked to add the soup to our dinners, she charged for 1 salad and 1 soup, why not charge for 2 soups since we asked for our salads to be our sides. I let it go, whatever. It's only a $1 difference, if that made her feel good to charge me a $1 more. Then, I had asked for bacon & onions on my dinner, she brings my plate with just onions and says the bacon is under the liver, I looked nothing under the liver. When I told her about it she said well the cook said it was there and walks away, I had to ask out loud can I get a side of bacon please. No apologies, nothing. Her service was horrible. And as I stated before even the people sitting behind us said her attitude was bad. As I was leaving I heard her say I was annoying and rude! I guess she didn't like that I asked for the side order of bacon that I was paying $3 extra for, that she said was on my plate that only she could see! Not to mention the vinegar that was brought for my salad looked as if it was very old, there was tons of particles floating in it. Never going there again because of a little snotty brat. Me & my son started going here on Sunday evening after we watch the Bears games 4-5 weeks ago & it's become tradition. They always have some good specials- baked chicken was solid. I took my poodles in Genoa so I decided to research places nearby! After long walk around and farm visit I found this place to have a breakfast. It is very cute dinner . Service was on point, food was on point. They solved my concerns about my allergies and they recommended me the most delicious pancakes I ever had. I enjoyed coffee and view. I ordered omelette with breakfast sausage, and pancakes on the side. I never had breakfast sausage before. It is interesting flavor, but not my cup of tea. I enjoyed pancakes with butter and syrup. This was a nice mid-point place to meet the in-laws for dinner once a week (they live about 50 miles from us - Sycamore is a good half way point) and the food/service was really good and left a great review at the time. Soon afterward though everything went downhill in our opinion. The food was coming out cold, wrong or missing pieces, just not good at all. Ex: Cheese omelette - no cheese. So they brought me a slice of Kraft to throw on it. Wow, thanks. I hate having to do this but I feel like parkway has just gone too far downhill. I used to love their ranch dressing but the last several times I've gotten it, it tastes like bottled pre-made grossness. And the salad from one of those pre-made bags too. My whole order of fries was over cooked and then soggy. Soggy is probably my fault, but the burned was on them. The cabbage rolls had a weird taste in the sauce and to top it off after eating from there I'm sick with stomach pain and bathroom problems. It saddens me to write this because I used to love parkway. I don't know if owner's changed or what but it's not what it used to be. First off: Their homemade soups are must-try items. I keep going back mainly because of the amazing quality soups they make. They uploaded their daily special on Facebook everyday around noon, or you can call if you can't wait to find out. They are very friendly people! I have visited this restaurant for several years and I'm positive to say that their food is consistent in terms of quality. Always fresh and meet your expectations if you know what you are ordering. Like me, I like couple of their items and they are something I'd order again feeling very confident. Fried chicken is excellent! Breaded Haddock is above and beyond which makes you think you are in Wisconsin. Lots of my friends like their steak and shrimp dinner which they speak highly about. Their daily special garlic shrimp pasta is very delicious too. I sometimes choose senior menu as it's friendly for all. It's half of the regular portion that comes with soup, entree, and ice cream. Good deal with $7.99. I also order some cakes when I have taste for sweets. They have homemade cakes; I've tried lemon cake, cheesecake, and chocolate cupcakes. They are always decent. The Sycamore Parkway is better than ever! I'm surprised some people classified it as a greasy spoon. I think it is more of a family style type restaurant. Chicken and biscuits are still offered, but I'm not sure if they are still offered specifically on Tuesday's. They have gone to a more random special selection each night. A nice feature is that they regularly update their specials on their Facebook page each day. One of the best specials I have had so far is the London Broil. It was lean, tender, and I was able to get it rare. The creamy garlic dressing continues in it's excellence and I still get it. However, the Caesar dressing is just as good if not better. They also have a good butt steak sandwich and stir fry's. I recommend getting the butt steak sandwich on garlic toast. Please check out the specials though because often something unique and or out of the ordinary will be available. An extensive home made desert selection is still featured. read more

We were looking for a new breakfast place and figured we would give Parkway a try... Breakfast was very good, but you can tell they cater to the locals (regulars). They sat us, then just a bit after, sat another table behind us (obviously regulars) got them water, got their order, brought them drinks etc. Then came to us. They got their food well before us. Not a big deal, but if you want "new" regulars, treat everyone the same. While paying at the counter, again the person cashing us out had more interest in dealing with more "regulars" than interacting with us. But she made sure we included a tip. Kinda rude. This place has been around forever with the slogan ... "Quality Home Cooking". Apparently the Sunday Grill Cook never made "Steak & Eggs" at home and definitely needs more practice. In terms of restaurant quality, this was an epic disappointment. The 5 oz. Butt Steak had the taste and texture of cowhide. Its probably more appropriate to blame management for ordering shitty quality cheap steak with the hope you didn't notice that your firkin jaw is sore from excessive chewing and your steak knife just went dull. Parkway is in a pretty good location -- it's on 64 heading towards St Charles and across from the golf course. It has - and has always had - great service. It can be slow, but the servers are friendly and attentive, so you never feel like you're being "ignored" or passed over. My only criticism is the food. The last time I ate here was before I left for Mississippi, and the food was great. Now, not so much. The food (I ordered a ham and cheese omelette) was bland, and I felt like I was eating straight cheese instead of an omelette, there was so much of it. I'm hoping this is a one-off; I really am. Absolutely amazing. My boyfriend and I discovered this place on accident about 3 years ago and have been going at least once every few months since. The staff is so incredibly nice and accommodating, even during these trying times. The food is always cooked to perfection. I always get the chicken tenders while my bf always gets the classic cheeseburger. We have never had a bad meal from this place. The chicken is juicy and flavorful and their curly fries are some of the best I've ever had. The decor is adorable and comforting. A great small town feel right when you walk in the door. Affordable and one of the last places to grab some food that really reminds you of a classic American diner. It does get really busy during lunch and dinner. So plan accordingly if you decide to drop in for some food. This time I had the Reuben, and my dad had the chicken sandwich with BBQ sauce. Both were good. The place is handicapped-accessible, clean, and friendly. I used to love here as a child, so I came here looking for the great food I dearly cherished through the years. I came with my mother and sister, and I informed the waitress that I was allergic to dairy and egg, and that I couldn't have anything with such. I ordered the $22 New York strip steak for my meal, a side of plain baked potato and corn on the cob. When my meal arrived, I cut myself a piece only to discover that my 'medium' steak was in fact made well done. Additionally, the corn had butter on it. I got the waitress and informed her that the steak was over cooked, tasted like rubber, and she took my plate saying she'd get her boss. Despite the steak being brown all the way through, the manager tried telling me that the steak was medium according to the juice on the plate, which was really melted butter mixed with some of the steak juices; the steak was as dry as could be as I ate it. Not only did she refuse to give me a refund when I said I didn't want it; the manager charged me the full $22 for a steak I had one measly bite out of. The Sycamore Parkway is a nice, cozy dinner located a few minutes outside of downtown Sycamore. The building and inside are definitely dated, but it kind of gives the place its charm. I've always found the wait staff to be polite and attentive, and they're always willing to go out of their way to make your visit better. If you're here, you'll probably try their soup as it's included in a lot of the menu entrees, and if you weren't thinking to, you probably should. I've had their Cream of Broccoli and Clam Chowder, both of which are creamy and tasty! I will say they all have a very cream of chicken taste to them, but I think it adds to the richness of the soup. For entrees, everything is home cooked and they have a nice selection of sandwiches, burgers, salads, fried fish and chicken, etc. If you arrive between 3-6 pm, you can choose something on the senior menu which includes an entree (they say it's a half portion, but it's still a bit of food), soup or salad and an ice cream for $7.99. Lately, I've been ordering whatever their daily specials contain though and haven't been disappointed yet. During my most recent visit, I tried their beer battered haddock dinner. I must say, I've eaten a lot of fried fish before since Wisconsin Friday fish fries were a common occurrence during my childhood, but their breading blew all of those away. I will definitely get it again in the future. I always go to the Sycamore Parkway tempering my expectations of the food because it's just a small diner in a rural town, but I'll have to stop that because they always hit the mark and exceed expectations. read more

Once is enough for us. After seeing the other Yelp reviews, I was very disappointed with our visit to the Parkway. I got fried chicken (advertised as the best in N. IL). The salad/bread/veggie was as expected...but the chicken was dry and extremely salty. I like salt as much as the next guy...but this was over-the-top salty. It was quite possibly the worst fried chicken I've ever tasted. The fries were bland and overcooked (salt wouldn't stick to them...so I washed them down with lots of ketchup). My wife didn't care for her salad entree. On a positive note, my young sons (5 and 3) were happy with their hot dog and chicken fingers. They gave us a lot of food...it's too bad we couldn't enjoy eating it. We don't intend to return. Dekalb/Sycamore has a dearth of quality restaurants...but there are much better options than the Parkway. The service was fairly good...and the host was very pleasant and talked to us more than most hosts do. read more
