Service is generally quite good. The ambiance is okay. The restaurant is dark, old, and lacks a certain decorum. The bar is light, well stomached, and feels cozier. Lunchtime is my favorite time at this restaurant. The food selections are great. Dinner is not as good as I had hoped. The desserts are lacking in visual presentation. read more

Wait wait wait wait!!!... I was so amazed by the food service and ambiance. The rib eye steak melted in my mouth explosive flavors and cooked just right ! My friend scampi was nice and creamy with perfectly cooked shrimp. Our first dessert was a a little too sweet and super small. Stopped in for a birthday dinner for my husband with a group of 6. We had no reservations and the restaurant seemed to be filling up but we were seated quickly and service was just amazing. Plates were hot and food was delicious! Everything we ordered was amazing, steak, burgers, lasagna, and the Siracha chicken is a must! The bread pudding was a big hit even though my hubby said he was stuffed but when I looked back at the plate it was wiped clean! Today two of my work colleagues and I had lunch at The Vineyard Restaurant. Prior to today, we had driven from Fresno several times to eat at the Vineyard: a couple of dinners with friends and also a large work luncheon for which we booked the entire restaurant. The food and service were great! I especially enjoyed the salmon salad and the olive tapenade. Today was very different. I ordered the lemon grass chicken, which comes on a bed of roasted potatoes for $22. I tried to eat the tiny chicken breast;however, the skin was tough and the meat was very dry. Also, the potatoes were pretty brown, almost burned. Everything tasted over cooked. When our server, Charity, returned, I explained that my chicken was very dry and that the potatoes tasted over cooked. She kinda stared at me and then said, "Oh, sorry" and started to walk away. She caught herself and asked if I wanted a new chicken or something else. I opted for the salmon salad since I I had lunch at The Vineyard Restaurant today with two work colleagues, or at least they did. My two colleagues stopped eating their meals thinking mine would be there soon. By the time they were finishing their meals, I still had not received my salmon salad. We looked around for our server, and found her in the kitchen. I politely asked her to cancel my salmon salad. Barely looking up, she said, "Oh, ok, sorry for the delay," and promptly went back to what she was doing. She never returned to our table. Another gentleman brought us our check. Bottom line is that the three of us were extremely disappointed by Charity's poor service. We feel strongly that she was far too cavalier about the poor quality of my first meal and the failure to deliver my substitute meal. It was a salad, for God's sake. My colleagues and I have decided to no longer return to The Vineyard and to take our business elsewhere. read more

Total disappointment. We used to come to this place for the lasagna because it was one of the best in the valley. However, we have not visitors in years and we came back just to be disappointed. Growing up in Madera the Vineyard still looks the same as it did growing up and still gives a older crowd vibe, but that did not matter because let's be honest... it's the only "Nice," restaurant left in Madera! Great staff, great food. My wife and I enjoyed dinner on Oct. 26, after visiting a couple of wineries. Customer service was outstanding, we both enjoyed a cocktail, dinner and a shared a dessert. The staff is knowledgeable about menu items and willing to make recommendations. On a side note, I was using crutches for an Achilles injury, the accessible parking is right next to a gentle ramp up to the door. Easy to navigate on crutches. We arrived at 4 pm when they opened. We sat and ordered right away. Our dinner came out in a reasonable amount of time. My husband's steak sandwich tasted like it was made with old meat. The rest of the meals were ok. The best part was the bread and olive dip. Where dinner went really bad was that our server forgot we were there. We had finished eating by 440, and then we're waiting on our server to come back to ask for boxes, a dessert to go, and the check. The host eventually saw us and approached at that point we asked for boxes, and a different server brought those over, but we again had to wait for our server to come back. When he finally did, we asked for a slice of cheesecake to go and the check. He left for over another 10-15 minutes before finally coming back. By the time we got our check, it had been one and half hours since we went in. We had thought about getting additional desserts to use the remaining of our gift certificate but decided we didn't want to wait any longer, so we just forfeited the additional on the certificate so we could leave. read more

Heard of this place from a friend and wanted to try it out. First got there, the place was pretty busy and parking was a little difficult to find. I had made reservations so was seated right away. I ordered a dirty martini, it was not dirty though our waitress tried to tell me it and offered to bring me olive juice which I appreciated. I got the ribeye steak plate and the star of the show (the ribeye) was a huge let down. The veggies were great and the potatoes were okay. My friend who got the steak salad said her steak tasted better and had more flavor. The best thing we had was their bread which was heavenly. Also the wait staff was friendly but forgot about us. Was in town on Memorial Day weekend visiting a friend and looking for a place where we could get a Bloody Mary with our food. A local suggested we go to Fresno, but we were determined to find something in Madera... so she suggested this place. We ordered 2 drinks, an sampler appetizer, and a dessert ($50 excluding tip). The Bloody Mary drinks were so disappointing. Bland and garnished with only one small olive. Nothing special at all. The sampler appetizer was okay. I was excited to see one of my all time favorites on the dessert menu (chocolate mousse), but that was disappointing also. It was much too dense (like a chocolate flourless cake or cheesecake). Not a traditional light whipped mousse at all. This is likely the nicest restaurant in this town, so I would probably visit again... but make it a point to order something different. read more
