The worst hotel experience ever. For the second time we arrived a little early and we were told we would be put on a call when ready list. That call never came. At 515 when we finally just went to the hotel, the gentleman at reception was rude and short. He simply said he didn't get that message. At 1150 on the day of checkout the manager knocked once then proceeded to barge into the room stating we had to checkout now. She was incredibly rude and had zero tact in dealing with guests read more

The only reason this place gets two stars is for the view and location. Having said that there is a huge discrepancy between the pictures advertised and what the place actually looks like. We were placed in the wrong room to begin with, having to repack and move to another. The place has peeling dated wall paper, old stained carpet, a mattress that feels like a cheap pull out sofa bed mattress, chipped mirrors, tiny closet without a door, ironing board placed on the hallway wall leading to the bathroom, dated shower with low water pressure. To top it off, the sliding glass door curtains are riddled with holes and their solution was to put a BAND-AID, to cover the hole!! Classy touch! We enjoy this hotel and have stayed here multiple times. It's close to the restaurants/shops of San Clemente. Walking distance to South of Nicks, Starbucks, Sonny's, etc. The beach is a short 1-mile drive away, or if you're young/healthy/sans kids you could likely walk to the beach as well. read more

We were really excited to stay at this hotel because of the location but they do have some audacity charging the prices they do. The hotel was a dump. If they remodeled or recently remolded I don't think the person in charge even attempted to make sure the work was done right. You can see the miss match tiles the fixture to the shower is bearly hanging on. You have to practically rip the lever to get the water to run. The bed was hard as a rock and the fact the room smelled of mildew or mold we don't know but it was awful. The AC was not cooling down the room so the room was very humid making our night miserable so miserable we left at 7am to get back home we didn't want to stay another minute.now read more

The Volare tries hard to be fantastic and succeeds in some ways, but falls short in others. The central San Clemente location makes is super easy to walk to dozens of restaurants, stores, and the San Clemente Pier. If you are looking for a walking vacation this is a good spot. The view from the ocean view rooms is the best part of this hotel. Watching the sun set over Catalina is stunning and makes it worth the stay. The balconies are nice, but obviously older. There were some really sketchy spots that concerned me though. If you are booking a two bedroom suite there are no balconies, but there is still a decent view. The continental breakfast was basic fare. There was always a meat and egg product as well as a pancake machine. They also had cereal, breads, and yogurt. I wasn't crazy about the fake plastic ivy on the walls. It felt like a lipstick on a pig sort of situation. but to each his own. What really let us down as family travelers was the pool/hot tub area. The pool isn't heated and in the spring when it is only 68 outside the pool is chilly. The hot tub was only 88 degrees when we were there which is downright cold for a hot tub. If it's not at least body temperature I don't think it counts as hot. We froze the one and only time we got in. After reporting the problem to the desk we waited and on our 4th night it was still the same temperature. We didn't see anyone else using the pool or hot tub so this must have driven other people away as well. They didn't even keep it stocked with towels which makes me wonder how long it has been this way. The other issue we had was that someone hit my car in the parking garage and left a huge dent. I never heard back from the management on the camera footage. read more

Should be 3 1/2 stars. Was clean. Walls are thin could hear people upstairs tell about 2am then again at 6 am. Made it hard to sleep for sure. Staff were very pleasant. Has a small pool and hot tub. They had a patio out back with nice seating was locked and you couldn't get out there would be a nice place to catch a few rays and read a book or look at the stars. Elevator was crazy slow. Walking distance to bars places to eat and shopping or catch the trolly to the beach. I really disliked they have the smoking area out at the front doors. read more

We booked through a 3rd party and Volare did a great job on overly communicating via text on reminders of our upcoming trip, when to cancel by, etc. I messaged in the day before to see if we can do an early check in and the person who responded said it could be available but to call back again tomorrow around 7am. Gladly, they had a room available for us. I spoke to a super sweet lady, Savannah, on the phone, who turns out it was the same person that greeted us when we checked in and out. Our room was spacious than other hotels we've stayed at in OC, (we requested a king size bed, non smoking, pet friendly). Overall our experience at the Volare was smooth, easy, and would definitely want to come back again. read more

This is where I stayed on my first night in San Clemente. When I rolled into town, it was too early to check in, so I asked for the closest sports bar so I could watch the Seahawks game. The desk clerk directed me just down some steps and across the road, and I found a fantastic place. When I came back to check in, everything was set and ready to hand me my keys. The Volare hotel is a hidden secret in San Clemente. The staff is always so helpful and nice and the rooms are super clean! Living in San Clemente it gets so hot without AC so it's nice having a little staycation just down the street!!! The manager Katie is always so sweet and helpful and loves the locals and even remembers our favorite room! Jose is also one of our favorites at the front desk! One should always watch more sunsets than Netflix. If you book an ocean view room here, you are guaranteed to sit and stare out all day at the beautiful ocean. I personally moved the couch in the room and had my own private view for morning coffee. Volare is perfect if you want to be conveniently next to the beach and freeway. Prices were unmatched for the Memorial holiday weekend so I couldn't resist a getaway. With that said, be aware that it may attract a lot of out-of-town guests and/or baseball tournament players. Modern with sweet touches of coziness, it's a lovely choice for a stay in San Clemente. Close to downtown Del Mar Avenue shopping, you can jump on the free trolley or take a cheap Lyft ride to the beach and pier. The rooms are clean and spacious; I would definitely recommend the King ocean view with a hot tub. I love that there was no charge for parking or wifi and the continental breakfast was pretty generous. If the coffee isn't strong enough, jaunt across the street to the Starbucks. The pool area is so inviting with the lounging chaises and beds. Staff is very kind and helpful. I had accidentally left my MK watch in the safe after switching to an ocean view room and they were able to fetch it for me. Unfortunately, the biggest downside was that my sister's diamond earrings disappeared and I am hopeful it turns up. If your vacation mode is kicking in, make sure you book here to visit San Clemente. read more

Very nice hotel with the beautiful views and affordable prices. Very convenient location with 15 minutes walk to the beach. The front desk manager Katie was such an awesome and easy going let us check in earlier without saying a word. The room was clean and with all the necessities such as microwave, mini refrigerator, tv, safe, iron, hair dryer and a lots of towels. It was a pleasure to stay here. Not cleaned properly. Walked in to the suite to find an open white claw on the ground and long hairs still around the tub. Who knows what else they neglected to clean. Second stay here and returned because it's within walking distance to everything in town. Again paid a bit more to have "ocean view" (yes it's off in the distance, but at least it's not freeway facing) Nothing fancy going on here, very basic place with friendly staff & free parking. Almost stayed at a nearby resort but realized I was never going to use any of the amenities so the cost would not be justified. If you just need a place to sleep & shower you can't beat the price for the location. Yes the room is stuffy & musty upon arrival, but once you turn on AC or open door to patio you're good to go. (Not sure why they don't turn the AC or fan on prior to guest arrival like most hotels) There's a mini fridge to keep your beverages cold and a coffee maker for the morning. Yes Keurig coffee is crappy, but it's a dose of caffeine to keep you upright so you can walk over to one of the MANY wonderful places a block or two away. Yes the decor is ancient but if The Volare redecorated we'd all have to pay double what we're paying now. No it's not peacefully quiet because it's on a beach town street, but sitting on the patio with a glass of wine & some tunes (never leave home without your bluetooth speaker fellow travelers) watching all the happy people stroll by as the sun sets is wonderful. Wouldn't recommend for a romantic couples getaway, but this place is good enough for those simply looking for a place to crash in the vibrant surfer town that is San Clemente. read more

We are in love with this Hotel! This is our second stay here. The first time I got the room through an on line app. We had never been to San Clemente before and we weren't sure what to expect. We had a room with an amazing view of the ocean and little city. After driving to our next destination it was clear than we could just walk and it was just a short, beautiful drive to the ocean. This trip the we wanted to stay at this hotel again. We had such a great last visit we had to do it again. This hotel is in the perfect location in the city. The people working here are just lovely! We are grateful to have found such a wonderful place to stay that's affordable. You need to come here. 3/30/18 I'm now engaged, and thanks to the staff at this hotel, they helped to make my night extremely special. This hotel will forever be where I stay while in San Clemente. This hotel has a prime location and a beautiful view of the ocean, with some building obstructions. Walking distance to Del Mar St., the main drag for restaurants and shopping. The rooms are spacious, clean, and updated. The free continental breakfast was great and had a nice variety of healthy choices. The only reason I did not give a 5 star rating, it still feels like the old Holiday Inn. The walls and ceilings are thin, and every footstep, sneeze, laugh, sex act, and other bodily functions were in stereo at times. I hear that renovations are in the near future, so hopefully some thicker walls or insulation are installed. Other than that, it was a nice get away and I would stay here again for the view and convenient location. read more

First off I called to the hotel directly asking specific questions re location view of the ocean, restaurants etc. I was told they have a "lovely"ocean view and I could also have a balcony to "see the ocean". If this is what you're expecting you'll be VERY DISAPPOINTED! The room was positioned over the entrance to the hotel and the parking garage. It is located on the busiest street in San Clemente. The "balcony" was filthy and there was absolutely no room to sit albeit to also look over the red terracotta roof. The trash truck rolled in as well as the guys rolling the trash container Thru the lot and the back up beeping was constant. Maybe I thought the bed would be comfortable--WRONG!! Pillows lumpy and hard, sheets scratchy. So after two nights of misery we drove to the pier area to see if there were other hotels. I was told there were not. HA! The visit was salvaged for an ocean front, w/balcony lovely hotel that was all we were hoping for. read more

I'm not a fancy, smancy person but you expect a certain level of quality once you hit certain price points and this establishment simply did not meet them. Watch out for the front desk lady named Karen. I'm writing this review at midnight! After catching a flight for a wedding tomorrow. I'm very tired and very disappointed in the customer service that's been provided here. I was completely disrespected by the woman downstairs, I asked for her name so I could speak to management tomorrow and her response was "Karen, yea Karen! And you can shove it up your a**" I understand it must be hard to have a name Like that during times like this, I get it and I completely understand. But that's no reason to disrespect guests in your hotel. Long story short she argued with me over a room key when I had my id and my name was left with the front desk earlier. I also had my brother with me who booked the room. When I came out of the elevator she was arguing with another guest over a parking spot. And screaming at the poor lady. The hotel is very cozy and quaint . If you're looking for the Ritz, then go to the Ritz. This place is close to everything you are within walking distance to every type of restaurant , shopping and the beach. There were no homeless anywhere. We walked all over without feeling any threat for our safety. They are family and dog friendly. Also a big shout out to Naomi who was very gracious in helping me while doing training there, and Savannah and Jose were very helpful and provided amazing support. The attendees said they would return. ( they came from all over the country)the rooms were cleaned every day without asking. It is obvious that they are remodeling but it never interfered with our stay. Friendly and helpful staff. The facility appears to be just an older hotel they have changed the name of to make sound more modern. There are some cosmetic changes here and there. The workout area needs some fixing up. Super hot and not much works. I heard a couple checking out say they couldn't use their tub because they couldn't get any hot water 2 days in a row. The thing this hotel has going for it, is its location. It's perfect if you're wanting to walk around San Clemente. I had high hopes that we'd found a "hidden gem", but that was not the case and we won't be returning. We walked into our initial room and found that the sliding door didn't close all the way and left a large 1-2" crack at the top. For being an ocean-view room it was a little strange that the primary view was of the freeway onramp. I don't mind a little white noise, but the sound of cars/motorcycles getting onto the freeway with no way of closing off the door to the noise is unacceptable. We had to move to a smaller room because they didn't have anything else available. When I we went to check out, they still had me paying for my initial (more expensive) room. I didn't think I should have to explain to the front desk staff why I shouldn't be paying a higher price for a down-grade. We'll be looking for another hotel for our next San Clemente trip. read more

Do you like indoor waterfalls in your closet? Do you like being uninvitedly woken up in the middle of the night? Do you enjoy being blamed for stuff out of your control by staff? Well then, this place is for you. For your reference, I sleep like a rock and can sleep through babies crying, it takes a lot for me to be woken up from my slumber. I've slept through earthquakes, parties, and from people literally shaking and yelling at me to wake up so sit down children-- it's storytime. Spent 2 nights here. Night 1 was fine, if the night 2 went as the first night I would have not given a review because it was neither amazing or terrible but it unfortunately did not go as smoothly as night 1. Night 2 I go to sleep at around 11pm and I am woken up at 2am from the sound of water hitting metal and something hard but hollow. It sounds like how it would sound if you were outside your house while it's pouring rain and you're next to those boxy attachable ac unit sticking out of a window getting rained on. Just constant drumming and loud pitter-patter. I try to ignore it and go back to sleep but I can't so I go investigate, it's coming from the little side closet by the entrance door and water is coming out of the ceiling hitting the plastic cover for the extra blanket and the lockbox. I go downstairs and to the front desk, there's a middle aged woman with long gray hair, I tell her what I said above. She asks me if I've been using the AC. I tell her I had the heater on- it's December and it's cold. She then proceeds to tell me the leak is MY FAULT, that I "caused the leak", in her words. She made it a point to tell me it was my fault multiple times throughout our conversation and never apologized or said sorry for the inconvenience. She said I shouldn't have had been running the AC for so long. Keep in mind, I came into my hotel room near 10pm turned on the heater to 74°F and went to bed before I was woken up by small indoor waterfall at 2am. If a hotel can't handle guests using the heaters for 4 hours, they need to figure that out and shouldn't blame guests for their outdated infrastructure. Honestly, I'm very lax and accommodating, if they had at least put a sign or warning I wouldn't be so upset but there was no sign, there was no warning, I ran the heater the night before no issue, I've been here before a few times and ran ac or heater all night, no issue. She was helpful and finds an empty room for me across the hall and tells me I can sleep in there for the night and keep my stuff in the raining room and move my stuff in the morning. I accept my new cards to the new room, still really tired, cranky from being woken up and upset she blamed me for their old pipelines. She then asks me to put a "something underneath the leak" to catch the water so they can access it in the morning. I go back to my room the raining stopped. I call the front desk and tell them it stopped and I'd like to just sleep where I've made myself comfortable. She then tells me since the water stopped it could have been the upstairs guest using the whirlpool. I notice I do hear footsteps and activity coming from above me. This place needs to train staff better. I'm giving her the benefit of doubt and will assume she just was not trained that in hospitality the guests experience is kind of important. And that "sorry" and "thank you" go a long way. But I have still not received an apology. But whatever. I'm just upset I had to wake up and get out of bed in the middle of the night and I'll go to work tired tomorrow and then need to drive 2 hours back home exhausted. I'm glad I didn't put anything in the closet and none of my personal belongings are wet or ruined. So anyway consider this your warning, you may be woken up in the middle of the night if you run the heater or AC for 4 hours or if the guest upstairs uses the whirlpool. But no worries because staff will blame you for their old infrastructure or poor building management before they send you back to bed . I'm not coming back here again. I've had better customer service at the Best Western near by, Airbnb is also an option. Plus side, this is a funny story to tell all my coworkers tomorrow and my friends during holiday parties so there's that. read more

5 star service all the way. I checked in Friday and stayed for the weekend. Katie snd Aubrey at the front desk are 5 stars!!! It is so nice to start your weekend by being assisted by such pleasant, cordial, professional and friendly people. It was a great first impression to my stay at the volare and I will absolutely consider choice hotels in the future because of their friendliness and kindness. Very thorough, clear and understanding when checking me in and assuring my accommodations were what I wanted for my stay before I even stepped foot into my room. I needed to switch rooms last minute, there was only a couple other options and Katie and Aubrey helped me get situated perfectly and the were so kind, gracious, professional in explaining the differences in charges, clear on where my room was located (what floor, direction, etc) that it started my day and weekend off with perfect momentum!!
