We don't come here for pasta. We come for sandwiches. If you can't serve one at 2:30AM, close earlier. What's the point? Who leaves a bar at 2:AM and thinks about a reheated slab of pasta? I can get that at home. Make me a cheeesesteak!! For my Italian and my Capo special, I asked for hot peppers and got an appropriate healthy portion. It had just enough onions on it for flavor but not so I tasted bites of onion. The fresh high quality cold cut meat flavors came through great. Both sandwiches were superb. I personally liked the Italian better, but if you're a true lover of Italian meats you have to get the Capo Special. The Cheesesteak is also legit. I had it once with Prov and once with American. Even though the provolone has a nice cheese pull, I do prefer American on a cheesesteak. I like my steaks with just cheese, onions and red hots. If you like it that way you have to order the standard steak and say "no peppers, add red-hots." By default they put peppers on it. There are several sandwiches I still want to try, in addition to some pasta dishes they have. However, I think my next sammy will be the Roast Pork or the Meatball sub. * The only downside is the price. A large sandwich on a seeded roll will cost you $18ish, plus tip, which is $21 for a sandwich. That is a lot. However, the small (half?) sandwich is $14.50 so you might as well get the large and take half home even if you are not finishing it. It'd be cool if they had a sandwich of the day on special, so you could get a large for $15 or something. But they do not. That said, maybe you get what you pay for with price because the sandwich is QUALITY and it is CONSISTENT. I have eaten there when the owner is present or late night when it's just younger staff working. Sandwiches have been the same both times. There is good training and appreciation for quality. I hope that stays. If the quality stays I'll keep coming back. They need to add some accessible napkins, water and bottles of hot sauce. A few misses that would make my visit more comfortable. They can also offer "For Here" or "To Go" options. They make everything to go which means they at least waste a bag each time I eat in house. If they're closed or crowded, don't overlook the OGs- The Big Cheese for another great Italian in town or Pip's for a cheesesteak. Not to take anything away from CAPO though! They have both sammies and you won't be disappointed. Just saw that they are now open until 2:30AM on Friday and Saturday! That is awesome. Full On Craft Eats. The Toast online ordering system was easy to navigate and adorned with pictures of every menu item. I could not get past the onion rings on the starter menu hoping they would taste as good as they looked. My friend offered to split the Slammin Salmon sandwich and onion rings since she has had it before and never finished the entire thing. I took her up on it and the order was placed. A quick ask for mom to grab it on the way home and the food made its way back quickly. WOW is all I can say. When you order food to go there is a level of expectation that it will not be as good as it is at the restaurant, especially fries and onion rings. But in this instance WOW. Talk about food that travels well. Fourteen minutes away and the food was still warm, the onion rings were so crisp, and the garlic and dill aioli and onion ring sauce were just right. The Slammin Salmon was served on ciabatta bread that was not too soft not too hard, with salmon cooked perfectly. The lemon dill aioli was a game changer so much that my friend's advice to order extra was well received and committed to memory. They were considerate when they noticed I was in the restaurant, but I assured them I loved their energy. I see why the food is so good because the energy shows it was made with great vibes and laughter all around. As I grabbed the bag to leave the hostess stopped me to add another fork and extra napkins since I would need them to add the pickled veggies on my sandwich. Such a nice touch. Thirty plus minutes to DC and the food still did not need to be reheated. The Mai Thai sandwich was a hit with flavors that married well and the onion rings delivered again. The Spicy Thai wings were good for wings but typical. They had a lot to compete with. Capo Italian Deli - Old Town Alexandria…read more I reviewed our new Old Town neighbor - Capo Italian Deli - early in 2026. Time for an update. The deli is outstanding. Taking up a tiny footprint on the N. Washington Avenue thoroughfare, a few seconds from King Street, the deli delivers both hot and cold deli entrees, soft drinks, and salads. There's maybe half a dozen tables inside and a couple of tables outside, but from what I have seen thus far, most of the trade is with carry-out service, drawing from the excellent reputation Capo brought with it as it arrived in Old Town (the restaurant has siblings in Shaw NW, and Western Market in the District, Tyson's Corner in Vienna, VA, Annapolis and Potomac, MD). Fresh Philly rolls for those seeking a traditional hero sandwich, with go-to seasonings and all of the essential protein groups. My favorite is a large half roast beef half turkey with lettuce, tomato, and mayo (I skip the Italian dressing, which is part of the default, and I skip the cheese). I can and have made this $18 sandwich last three meals (so I ask them to cut the sandwich into three pieces), and the ingredients stay fresh for the next 24 hours. The last time I did this the sandwich fed me from 4:45 a.m. to 9 p.m., as I served as an election officer at one of Alexandria's polling places. Neat, trim, and completely satisfying. Just a point of concern: given its location, the opportunity to double-park while picking up an order seems to be just too tempting. This location, however, cannot over the long term sustain double-parkers. The deli is about 100 feet from the intersection of King Street and N. Washington Street. There is a dedicated lane for cars seeking to park adjacent to the deli. And then there are two northbound lanes on N. Washington Street. That's it - just two lanes serving one of the busiest intersections in Old Town. If a delivery-service car pulls up alongside one of the parked cars, all hell will break loose by drivers who suddenly find a delivery vehicle double-parking in front of Capo, leaving but one northbound lane open for however long it takes for the delivery agent to gather the order and beat it out of there. This happens with remarkable frequency, starting at about 11 a.m. and running throughout the day. That's not going to make good neighbors of Capo's nearby shops. Alexandria Parking has its work cut out for it, but here the rule prohibiting double-parking has to be enforced - it's both a safety issue and an issue of common courtesy. Doesn't matter if you think you'll just be in and out of the deli in seconds. We know it doesn't work that way, not always, and here - not even often. More often than not the double-parker will be creating a traffic hazard just by parking alongside a parked car in front of the deli. Please, don't do this.

When I asked which bread was the softest, he cut me off to say they were "super busy" and could only change the bread on one sandwich, not both. I asked again for clarification, and he continued sounding irritated and uninterested in helping. He repeated that they had a line of people and needed to know which one sandwich I wanted to change. The shop itself is very clean and welcoming, and the staff has been friendly and helpful on both visits. Ordering is simple, though I did notice some of the same sandwich names listed in different sections with different prices, which was a little confusing. I meant to ask about it but forgot. They have a wide selection of deli-style sandwiches (hot and cold), plus cheesesteaks and burgers, which I haven't tried yet.
