We decided to try Wah Hing in Rathdrum because we moved from the Bay Area in California and were in the mood for Chinese food. First off the portions were large. We were able to take home leftovers for another meal. They also don't use MSG and I'm allergic to it. The food was just okay. Everything was very bland. We ordered soup with our meal and the waitress forgot to bring it until we had to remind her when she brought our entrees. I had the flower drop soup and it was pretty tasteless and was very slimy and thick. Weird texture.... I ordered the fried shrimp, vegetable beef, fried rice combo. It all needed salt. My husband ordered a combo meal that included Mongolian Beef that indicated it would be spicy. He said it wasn't spicy at all so he was a bit disappointed. Not sure if we will go back in the future. Not pleased at all with the food, it has been over a year since the last time we were there and were disgusting with the food and the service. We thought we would give it another chance and now wish that we wouldn't have. What a waste of money we could have gotten better food out of the freezer section of any store at one fourth the price and it would have been a lot better. Cold unattractive, unappealing food served by people that acted like they wish they were somewhere else. I honestly don't know how they stay in business and we feel that we will never make the mistake of stopping here again. People that say they like this p,ace and the food is good have no taste buds. Not so good service was good but there was a mold/spoiled laundry smell! Our chicken was mostly crispy chicken skin tasty but not much chicken! Foil chicken had an off taste like on edge of going bad! Ice tea instant and strong! One thing that should be amazing is Chinese tea :-( read more

You wouldn't think a small town in northern Idaho would have such great Chinese food, but it does. The sauteed scallops were as good as anywhere I've eaten and all the dishes were prepared with excellent spices. The flavors were distinct and the food was very fresh. Since moving to the area almost a year ago, my husband and I have been eating here to sayisfy our Chinese food fix. I'd love to rate them higher but their food is not consistent. We have 3 or 4 dishes that we rotate through and every time it is different. They used to have plenty of meat in the dishes and now they have hardly any. Sometime we get a large container of rice for two entrees and other times just a single serving. Today the bbq pork egg foo young was cold. I'm very disappointed. read more

Just okay. The chicken fried rice is pretty dang good and the sweet and sour chicken is pretty good as well. Different but good. I got almond chicken once and it was pretty much fried chicken with weird yellow gravy on it. Tasted okay but super off putting. My bf likes the sesame chicken but I hate it! I haven't had really good Chinese food for a couple of years now, but yesterday I was craving it and decided we needed to give this place a try. What a great restaurant!!!! The food is so tasty and authentic. Each dish had it's own wonderful sauce, not the same sauce put on everything and sometimes cloyingly sweet. I highly recommend The Wah Hing, and even though I had to drive over 80 miles just for a bit of lunch, I'll be returning again soon. read more

Here goes... We wanted Chinese food...good Chinese food. Turned to Yelp and, since we were already familiar with most the Chinese restaurants in the Inland Empire, we found Wah Hing. We hadn't been to Rathdrum for a while, so we decided to take a chance (and a drive). The closer we got, the more reviews we read. Here's our story: We were greeted and seated by friendly and courteous staff. Water and hot tea came promptly. After reviewing the menu, we decided on Vegetarian Egg Fu Yung and the Special Combination House Lo Mein. Wow! Generous portions of the best Chinese food I'd had in years--maybe in my lifetime! Seriously! And ample enough to take home some for later. (True confessions: Yes, I did hide it in the refrigerator. I didn't want anyone else beating me to it!). Well, we paid the bill, vowing to return. (And spent the next 6 days dreaming and talking about more of that yummy food.) When we couldn't stand it any more, we took the second journey to Rathdrum (21+ miles each way) IN A WEEK! This time we ordered Mu Shu Pork and Chicken with Black Bean Sauce. Sooooooooooooo good! There was such a generous portion of Mu Shu that I wished for extra pancakes and a little more hoisin. Here's the thing: the ONLY thing bad about Wah Hing is there is not one in close proximity! The food is great, the service is good and I can hardly wait for the next Wah Hing experience! I'm hooked on this oh-so-yummy food! Thanks! We'll be back! read more

My wife and I go here all the time and every single time the food and service have been excellent. Tonight we had one complaint, although our food tasted great and the service was excellent, the food was cold. I mentioned the issue and we had fussy baby with us so we needed to get going. Next thing we know the owner fixed the issue and talked with his staff about what happened. Like I said we go here all the time we love it. This place has great food! We ordered Togo and they packaged everything really well so that nothing got soggy. The crab puffs were delicious! Where I am from they are called crab rangoons. The piking dick was also amazing! I loved the sauce! I would recommend giving it a try! read more

I was starving and craving Chinese, and although this seems to be the only Chinese food restaurant in the Rathdrum and surrounding areas, I'm glad because the food was delicious and authentic looking/tasting! Only things are I didn't realize they are more of a sit down restaurant although their sign says "Lunch & Dinner Food To Go" so I was a bit confused by that at first. However, once I ordered I only waited max 10 mins for my food which was great, and the food portions are HUGE!!! I'm only one adult and they give large portions of everything: soup, meals, and especially the cream cheese fried appetizer I got. (Which came with a soup bowl size of sweet & sour sauce!) Very happily surprised and my only downsides would be they seem to or could use more waiters to not make the current workers so clearly stressed and busy, the prices are average but a bit much for those looking for something cheaper, and I received no napkins or utensils in my to go bag. Overall I wish I lived closer to this place because the food comes in large portions and delicious!!! read more

Not sure what has happened to this place. It used to be the best Chinese around. Last night I ordered the #9. The egg roll was nothing but deep fried cabbage. The S&S pork was rock hard. Both tasted like deep fryer oil and no other flavor. No red sauce for the prawns. Server kept pointing to the S&S sauce. The lo mein was the best part of the meal but it wasn't as good as I remembered it. Maybe we landed on an off night but we will not be back. Also, it was slow. I have never in my life had to spit food into a napkin because it was so disgusting...until I ate here!!!! I have also never felt the need to write a review on a restaurant until now...I was that traumatized by this place (and this is after I have calmed down for a couple days). I'm being generous by giving it one star, but yelp won't allow me to post with zero. There was nothing good about this place. We read the reviews and were very excited to check it out for ourselves. So we went...and ordered a ton of food! Lots of variety to choose from. Well, the dishes came out one at a time, which was odd but oh well. And we started eating off of each one, thinking that maybe the next would taste better. By the time the last dish got there we were completely disappointed. I took one bite and literally had to spit it out into my napkin. After looking a little closer at the positive reviews, I'm starting to see that they all have a similar writing style...like they were perhaps all written by the same person. Hmm??? As if it wasn't bad enough that the food was so gross, the staff was pretty bad too. Horrible service. They would disappear and you couldn't find anyone to even give you a check. So we had to wait with plates full of nasty food in front of us, for someone to finally show up and charge us for the ridiculous experience. Please don't even bother going here. You are seriously better off buying food out of the back of a van or roadside roach coach. read more
