Checked out The Walnut Room for some post-event noms with the sweet Carly B. As a lady who goes to see a lot of live music in Denver, I'm so surprised I haven't been here yet! Just a couple blocks down from our event venue, we made the quick walk over (note: there are no sidewalks, so try to park close to avoid any run-ins with cars). After a beer and potato chip centric event, all I really wanted was a big old salad and a glass of water. I ordered a large Italian avocado and walnut salad with chicken, and it was just meh. The chicken, while filling, was extremely dry and felt like it had been sitting on the assembly line for about a day too long. Miss Carly's margherita pizza, however, looked pretty bomb! I can't speak to the cocktails, but from looks of the bar they can make ya most anything you want. There was no music that evening, but it looked like they were hosting a giant guitar class in the back. A pretty good use of space! I've heard great things about this place, and it was probably my mistake to order salad at a pizza joint. The Walnut Room's tag line on their website is "MUSIC. PIZZA. SPIRITS." and I failed to experience any of those wonderful things. I'm a fan of the thin, crackery crust that Walnut Room is known for so I am a big fan of their pizza here. A point my dining companion on my last visit here made is that Walnut Room is also one of the few places I know in Denver that cuts their pizza into squares, which is a Midwest thing to do I think? Beyond the pizza though this Walnut Room has a really cool music room in the back. It's super intimate and cozy so if there is a show playing there I'd recommend stopping in and taking a listen. And follow it up with some pizza and beer. And, that's what I call a night on the town. read more

This is karaoke Mecca on Tuesday nights! They offer a real stage, floor monitors, lighting, and there's even a sound mixer guy in a booth in the back of the room. The sound quality here is awesome! Pair that with the vast song options from Uncle Dutchie and it's winner, winner, chicken dinner! The décor in this bar's entirety is very modern and streamlined. Even the smoking patio was classy which is a nice change. The bathrooms are very clean and there are enough stalls for everyone. The room for karaoke is separate from the regular bar area and has its own designated bartender. Also, don't worry about parking. Not only is this bar located in an industrial area downtown (hint: free street parking), but it also has a parking lot. As for the patrons, you get an interesting mix of trendies, yuppies, and semi-weirdos. On this particular night, I thought I was at a skinny jeans and mustache convention. Total flashback to the 70s minus the tacky clothing. One dude actually had chin-length feathered hair. However, these guys were great showmen. I laughed so much, my face hurt. You walk in and for a split-second, your heart drops. It's a typical bar. But no. This is even better than the beer nuts. Because behind the only unusually large-sized door is your ticket to a private event. Beautiful stage, lighting and entertainment included. The drinks were perfect. The service, great (including the lovely server and the humble doorman, unlike some places I know). You wouldn't think anything so fly was out in the middle of industrial Denver, but it is. I'd recommend ordering a delicious $5 Bloody Mary on a Sunday afternoon and sitting back to listen to a great line-up of musicians in your personal portal. Next time, we're trying the infamous pizza. Because I trust (most) Yelpers explicitly, I had high hopes for The Walnut Room's Walnut Pizza. Sadly, I was disappointed. Yes, the addition of nuts to a 'za is brilliance. Even as charred and unevenly distributed as the ones on ours were, they were indeed tasty bits of oily, crunchy, nutty goodness... not bad! May I suggest using pine nuts instead? No? Your want your nuts to reflect your name? Oh... okay then. They were still good. My main beef: the red sauce. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I don't like red sauce on pizzas (see my Virgilio's review... they're still the best). I choose not to order it whenever possible. So when I see that a pizza is described as having pesto, it SHOULD naturally follow that said pesto is IN PLACE of the red sauce... not IN ADDITION to it. Well, The Walnut Room's Walnut Pizza had red sauce. Lots of it. Yes, it had globs of spattered pesto too, but come ON. There was no mention of renegade red saucery! Begone from my pie, foul slurry! Another issue: why cut the pizza in squares instead of wedges? It only serves to make those middle, crustless squares hard to pick up and messy to eat. My friend got grease on her dress. Not totally your fault, Walnut Room... but still. Pizzas should be cut in wedges, if only for the sheer simplicity of having a handle of crust to hold onto. Simply as a place to drink, The Walnut Room is decent enough. It's worth a solid three stars. The interior bar area is way too narrow though, and when it's crowded it can make mingling (or just heading to the bathroom) quite difficult. Nice patio, however! Just remember that there's no server out there, so if you want food/drinks you'll need to order at the bar. So, three stars for the Walnut Room. But five stars for Sam, one of the bartenders!! Fantastic food and fun music venue. Been here a handful of times to meet up with friends. I decided to give up ordering any food cause it takes so long. A sandwich and salad took about 45 minutes while our waitress ignored us. When we asked her about our order, she shrugged her shoulders and said "not sure what's going on. Should be out soon." We waited as people who came in after us received their food similar to our orders. *sigh* The quality and taste of food is great. The Walnut Room has 2 major things going for them: great live music venue, and awesome pizza. Let's start with the pizza first....wow. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of their ingredients. Bryan and I ordered the Iron Maiden: pepperoni, sausage, Canadian bacon, and herbs. They were kind enough to oblige our request to substitute meatballs for the Canadian bacon. As previously mentioned, it's a super thin crust pizza, but perfectly made with top quality ingredients, and a great price. Yum! And after the pizza, came the show. It really is a great place to watch some live music. When we went, they didn't have any chairs or tables set up, so everyone had to stand. After stuffing my face with pizza and Strongbow, however, I didn't mind that at all. I also liked the fact that there was a bar in there too. Made it very convenient as opposed to having go back into the dining room. I definitely am a big fan of the Walnut Room, and will absolutely be back....if not for a show, then for their awesome pizza. read more

i'm giving this place 5 stars because of its magic combination of delicious pizza and cool music space. I'd gone here a while back to see a band play but had eaten prior to arriving. I sat and waited for the show smelling the amazing pizza aromas wafting around me. I knew I had to venture back here to try it. The music space is cool, and it is in its own room in the back. The whole place is new so it is very clean (somewhat rare with music venues.) They seem to have a good mix of music coming through. The pizza was delicious. We got the "Three Amigos" which has pesto, bacon, and red sauce. Yum! Bacon on a pizza. Sign me up. It was, as other people have warned, very greasy. Our shop goes here for lunch (actually carry out) at least one a week. Its hard to beat $7 for a personal one-topping pizza, a salad, and a drink. The pizza ranges from great to greasy... just depends on who is cooking and what day of the week it is. Every time I have dined in with drinks, etc the consistency is there and its always pretty good. The take-out quality is much more sporadic, but it seems recently they are getting better. We have had pies delivered to the shop on party nights, and its always been delicious, no matter what toppings. And their sammys are pretty good too... just a little pricey for lunch. I really wanted to like the Walnut Room. Reading the reviews here on Yelp before going, I thought for certain that I would. Unfortunately, that's just not the case. I thought their pizza was gross. It's one of those paper thin crust, California style jobbers, and thus incredibly over-priced for what you get. a $17 pizza of $5 worth of ingredients. We got one with pesto sauce, but it actually came with both pesto and red sauce, which was over-powering, bitter and un-enjoyable. We also had the wings, which were soggy, small and disgusting. The food is done separately from the waitstaff. And it was difficult to get resolution on our lackluster meal. It was also nearly impossible to find our server to cash out our drinks tab, or to re-order. The bartender in the food room seemed on top of it. I wish we would have only done business with her. With the disgusting meal behind us, it was time to check out the live music. This part of the Walnut Room earns them another star. Great acoustics, 2 great bands, professional lighting, nice stage. The sound man tends to like reverb on the vocals a little much, and the lighting person is obviously not a professional lighting designer, but overall, a very nice venue. The bartender in that room was a complete amateur. Though, that made for pint sized cocktails at regular price, if you could stand waiting to get one from her. The Walnut Room is a nice looking establishment, full of a mix of chads and hippies. The food must be an acquired taste, because I found it absolutely disgusting, despite the many good reviews here. If this is the best Five Points has to offer, I'll gladly stay in Cap Hill. read more

Never been here before last night. I grabbed a table and waited a solid 5 minutes before the server even came by and said she'd be back to get my order. Not a good start to a Friday night. Finally drink in hand, do like the 1/2 price wells & apps till 7pm, we ordered an app & a pizza. We asked for the app first, that didn't happen. Was ready with the pizza which was ok. Yes, I ate more than I needed to, but that's cause I like eating. Would I go back, probably not. Walnut Room has an attractive combination of hip and low-key that should make anyone feel welcome. Most bars can't accomplish this without a certain amount of Trying Too Hard in one direction or another, but Walnut Room makes it look easy. The full bar has a great selection of liquors, but it isn't so much a wine bar. Mixed drinks are just like you like 'em: strong but not full of ether (cf. the Church) and reasonably priced. The patio is a great place to just chill out on a moonlit night. One caveat: although this bar has a room for live acts. this is NOT a good place to go see said acts. No seating. One bar area. Tiny. Not the greatest stage in the world. Unless you're in the front, you better just be there to dance or listen and sway in place, because you won't see a thing. This pizza had no sauce and was thinner than the cardboard it was on. Lack of taste along with toppings made it so disappointing. It has it all, great service, great American thin crusted pizza, great bar, cool patio and not forgetting, a cozy accoustic place for live music. They have food and drink specials every day of the week, and Tuesdays is "flip-it and call it night", sure enough, I had ordered a large "Iron Maiden" - pepperoni, sausage, canadian bacon, flipped it, called it, and got a free pizza! Pizza veridict: American style thin pizza: filled with toppings, crunchy and well seasoned crust, thin, very greasy but I was expecting it from the fatty meats, and from the cheese! Was great, the only cons I have about their pizza is that its cut in squares, and it get a bit difficult to eat... Other than that its great! read more

The Walnut Room is one of those places you like but that you forget about because it is in a district where the homeless people sleep under tin sheets. Now I am not trying to rip on tin sheets here, but they just get so dang rusty and lazy like my cousin Leroy. To carry on, I do enjoy this place because the food is pretty good and the prices are not too shabby. But best of all they have The Banquet on Tap and that my friend is the Roosters Cock a-doodle-doo. The venue is pretty money to, great place to see a small band or inspirational dance. Ooooook. I kinda love this place. And why it took me 6 months after I moved to Denver to actually eat here is beyond me. There are two ways to my heart: cannoli and a good vegetarian pizza (no I am not a veggie, but I prefer a pizza with artichoke, olives, tomatoes, onions. Probably the California in me.) They have both. Therefore I am in love. The cannoli are mini so it's actually perfect to just have one for dessert. I had been here before for a music event which I had a great time and love that so many places here have live music! The only 'complaint' I had was they brought out a pizza with meat on it so it had to be sent back (the person I was with actually is a vegetarian) and normally you would expect a free drink or dessert but there wasn't any of that happening. Not a big deal but kind of weird since it was another good 15 minutes for us to get our meal. The fact that the pizza reminded me of my favorite place back home made up for it. read more

I've been to shows here before (it's just something you do growing up in Denver), but never had gotten to try out the food. Now that I'm working like 4 blocks from here, I've been able to hit them up a couple of times. I've yet to try anything other than the pizza, cause really, why would you? I love their Mediterranean pizza (without onions) -- Feta on pizza turns out to be really delicious, and it's the perfect size for one. Their service isn't stellar, but my servers have always been friendly, and I've never felt completely ignored or that they were being rude to me. I suppose eventually I'll venture to try something different, but for now, I have my dish I love here. I will say that I wish they had some more regular height tables inside. I ordered a 10 inch thin crust pizza with giardinera (hot pepper mix) and green olives and it was everything I had hoped for. The crust was just right, etc... I'm not sure if Walnut Room knows this is a 5 star pizza (and this is coming from a Chicagoan). It's honestly a "no frills" pizza, but it's just simple and awesome likely the best I've found in Denver. The service was fine and my Moscow Mule wasn't the greatest BUT that's okay! I was here for the first time just last month. A buddy of mine was in town from L.A. (he was part of a tour that was playing the Walnut), and we got to catch up while I got to check out this great new Denver venue. The Walnut Room just turned 1 year old a few months back, and I've got high hopes for this place. They've got a really cool bar area, and a stellar room for live music. They've also got Oskar Blues' beer in cans, which is freakin' tremendous. It's a bit out of the way, which is part of its charm, no doubt (and I'm sure that before long LoDo will have spread its tentacles out this far!), and definitely worth the trip. read more

I've been here for pizza and I've been here for a show. I can say that this place does them both well, but I'm not blown away by either situation. It's been a while since I had the pizza, but I remember it tasting pretty durn good. Except, well, there were all these people hanging around waiting for a show to start, so it was crazy crowded. The problem with this place is that it's too many things in one space that's just too small for all of the things. The actual concert space is very intimate with a white sheet for a backdrop, which I really liked, to be honest, because what we saw that night was very local and very raw. The space is also about the same size as the bar outside and it was nowhere near capacity. I don't know if that's a common occurrence, but it seems like they could maybe take some of that space and add it to the outside area. Overall, this is a good place to get pizza and a nice place to see a show. Just don't expect to find a quiet, intimate corner. In fact, don't expect to get more than 2-3 square feet to yourself. read more

One of my local favs. When we first moved it was where i ate most of my meals, since we hadn't determined where the grocery store was and the fridge was on the fritz! I love most everything on the menu! The meatball sub - OMG! Mmmmmm! The pizza is yummy but hubby only likes pepperoni so i don't get to try many of the other tasty looking options! But the pizza is good. It comes out hot and gooie. The crust is great and they cut it in squares which can be cool if you want to have all toppings all the time with none of that puffy thing you usually hold onto to eat the piece. The cheesy garlic sticks are yummy. The salads are even pretty good! Usually too big for the bowl they come in - not a bad thing! So yeah, it's good! The bar tenders turn over often, but they are all glreat, friendly, and give good service! The guys that cook the food - they are great and fun and always try and smile! I've never enjoyed a show here, but the venue looks cool. This past Sunday afternoon someone had a birthday party back there, so that's something to keep in mind! read more

Since I moved to the neighborhood 2 years ago, the pizza has been consistently good, the staff has been consistently friendly and I've enjoyed the couple shows/trivia events I've been to. I had actually gone to the Walnut Room to check it out. I was fortunate enough to watch The Epilogues and The Photo Atlas there. A fantastic show by two of Denver's best local bands. The stage was decent size, with probably the best lighting that I have seen in a smaller venue. The sound was excellent, obviously there had been alot of thought put into the design. The food was good, I had a pizza, but I prefer Enzo's or the Marquis... Long story short, go for the band and you won't be disappointed... Too bad it was a horrible date... LOL read more

The pizza at the Walnut Room reminds me of the better California style pizzas I have had. They are crunchy on the bottom, loaded full of topping on the top but still thin enough that you don't want to kill yourself after a few bites. They have a pretty good selection of beers on tap as well as a good full bar (especially considered the size of the restaurant side). My buddy procured a Living Social coupon for this establishment. Neither of us had ever been here, but I've heard about it. So a couple of us made for a guys night out of beer and pizza. I love the building, it's very cool, and a very clean and artistic architecture and landscape makes for a neat juxtaposition in the neighborhood it's located. There's a few tables and a big bar, then a back room where they feature live music. The menu is small and to the point - pizza and sandwiches. We decided to start with an appetizer of baked chicken bites. Not bad at all, good tender white meat bites tossed with buffalo sauce. Pretty standard fare, but we enjoyed it. For the pizza, we perused their concoctions and settled on the Spicy Hirsch, an 18" with sausage and giardiniera peppers. It was incredible! The sauce was tasty, the cheese and toppings were perfect. We devoured it without even blinking. Holy Moley, it was really good! They have cracker-thin crust. The crust was truly flavorless, which allows for the flavors of what's on top to please the palate. Now for the downside - the staff. The service wasn't horrible, but our waitress was a bit inattentive and not terribly friendly. When I sat down I smiled and greeted her when she came over, and she seemed like she was either annoyed or grumpy. The three of us were being friendly (nobody was hitting on her - maybe that was the problem) when she came by, and every once in a while she seemed to make an effort to be nice, but it was an obvious effort. It seemed that we waited for a long time for the pizza, and she was a bit slow on checking on our drink refill needs. We had some interaction with other staff members, and they were also not very positive. I don't know if it was a bad night, but out of the 5 or 6 people we talked to who brought a drink or dropped off food or took an order, only 1 was actually cheery. Still, the pizza was GREAT!
