Not a bad little place. The food was alright, but I'm not sure it was worth the price. The service made up for it. They were helpful and courteous. The steak was cooked exactly like I asked, but a touch on the bland side. There's a good selection of beers on tap. The sides were nothing to write home about. The manager was tending bar and he was very polite and told me all about where I should stop while I am in town. His service was prompt and friendly. I asked the Walrus to cater a dinner at the University of Mary. I worked with Jill, who was quick to reply and who put together an outstanding menu: lemon pesto salmon, salad with orange citrus dressing, and strawberry shortcake. Two men arrived to help with setup, and everything was hot and fresh. Our guests loved the dinner, and there were some very fussy eaters in the bunch. The price was very reasonable, and the experience was clean and easy. I would definitely ask the Walrus to cater another meal for us, and I would highly recommend them to others. read more

Here's what you need to know about me before you read my review: I'm a sucker for local places, and you can count the number of quality local places in Bismarck on one hand. The Walrus, however, is on that hand. The atmosphere isn't bad, but the beer selection is about as good as you get in a Bismarck restaurant and the buffalo chicken wrap is fantastic (especially when they are heavy on the buffalo sauce). My girlfriend and I celebrated our anniversary here recently and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time we ate here. Great place for lunch or dinner and the menu actually had tons to choose from. The service was excellent. I ordered Alfredo with chicken and broccoli and they do not skimp on the meat. I've eaten here a few times in the past when I was in or passing through Bismarck, and I always had good food. Over the last year, I've had the opportunity to eat here quite a few times. I haven't loved every meal, but the food has been pretty consistent. The crab cakes are probably best avoided. They are dense and soggy, and the crab flavor gets lost in everything going on. I was expecting a flaky, delicate cake and what I got was more of a crab puck. That said, the walleye sandwich is great. I've had it many times and thoroughly enjoyed it. The fish was a little overcooked one time I was there, but it wasn't bad enough to ruin my meal, let alone my night. A few people I've eaten with have enjoyed the "Thor" sandwich, and it's not bad. The beef seems to be sliced lunchmeat "roast beef", but it works because it doesn't taste cheap or like lunchmeat. The jus served with it is perfectly beefy and salty, and the flatbread has enough chewiness and structure to hold the sandwich together well. The pastas are pretty good. The dijon cream sauce is great. I'm not a huge fan of their red sauce, but I don't fault them as I'm very picky when it comes to tomato sauces. Most of my dining companions have really enjoyed their pastas. I'm not a big fan of their pizza crust, but I still really like the Wal-Rus pizza. The dijon cream sauce and sauerkraut work well together with everything else going on. The seafood is well prepared and cared for, which keeps me coming back. The seafood specials have always been good. Many places try to unload older seafood with specials, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all here. The staff can be a little inattentive at times, but most of the servers are professional. Service actually seems a little better during busier hours. Sometimes it can be pretty bad though. If you show up late for lunch, it can turn into an inadvertent long lunch. It helps to have your card ready when the bill comes if you're running late. read more

Got a seat right away. The waitress brought us yummy bread and garlic butter with waters before we ordered which is how I like it. I had French onion soap , very good and the chicken wild rice was the best my brother ever had. the beer selection is redonkulous with so many options it's hard to choose.
