I really love this place! The atmosphere, the food, the coffee! I just really wish the staff were a little bit friendlier. As many have mentioned, the front counter staff seems short and as if customers are a burden. The last couple times we've came in they have barely shared a smile let alone a "welcome" or "how's your day going". I've worked in the restaurant industry and understand it's hard to keep up and keep a smile on at times, but today in particular, I was one of the first customers in. It was not busy at all. She still barely said a word to me and acted like she hated her job. That's not a way to run the "face" of your business when it comes to the restaurant industry. It's not that hard to say good morning with a smile. Unfortunately, the same staff has acted in the same manner the last couple times that I've been in. Fortunately, the food and coffee make up for it! And the kitchen staff who brought out my toast was very friendly! Maybe move that guy up front! He seems to know what customer service is! read more

I am an absolute breakfast snob. I live and die by breakfast cafes and breakfast food. This was hands down the BEST breakfast sandwich I have ever head in my life. I got the "Main Street Sandwich" with the house made brioche bun. I was gonna take a picture after taking a bite to post this review but after I tried it I literally refused to put it down. I might have a cried a little after I realized I was finished. Biscuit was also good (3.8/5), matcha latte was average. Service was okay, they forgot to deliver a few things and made a drink wrong but they were nice and it was busy so who really cares‍. Overall would really recommend. read more

I love the vibe of the place with the casual seating and tables, plenty of area to spread out. It was too late in the day for a coffee but had a lavender lemonade which was delicious and well balanced in sweet/tart/floral. The breakfast sandwich was delicious! Great cafe with good breakfast foods. Haven't tried lunch yet. I had eggs and sausage with a biscuit. My husband had the pulled pork breakfast sandwich. My sausage tasted like it might be homemade and was very good. It tasted like it might have a hint of chorizo in it. It was less peppery than the stuff you usually get from breakfast places or the store. The biscuit was huge and had a nice buttery texture. My husband said the pulled pork was very tender but didn't have a barbecue or other type of sauce, which kind of diminished the flavor. It was so juicy he had to eat the sandwich with a fork and knife. My only issue was that the place gets very loud and echoey when it's full of people. Not really much they can do about that. It's an older building with a lot of hard surfaces and high ceilings for sound to bounce off. read more

Not sure why I have to say this, but when I order a 16oz latte, I want it in a MUG. Not a pint glass. If I CAN hold said pint glass, then the coffee is automatically not hot enough. If I CAN'T hold said pint glass, then I can't drink my coffee. The design/decor of this cafe was amazing. Really, really cool. But the guy working there the day I went in is not. They aren't friendly and they come across like they really don't care about the customers one way or another. The place had about 10 people in it, yet it was SILENT. Ya know how weird that is? It has a hipster type of vibe which I'm not super into, but what made the place interesting was all of the different kinds of people coming in to enjoy their cups of coffee. The breakfast offered is minimal if you don't eat eggs, pastries have weird additives (coffee cake muffin had chocolate in it ). Chai was more spicy than sweet even with vanilla syrup and there are not a lot of drink options if you don't like coffee. Service was okay, everyone except the gal at the cash register seemed like it was an inconvenience to serve us- I I understand it was busy & they were probably overwhelmed. I usually love this spot but this time around I am super let down by the quality of my food. I ordered the avocado toast add egg pickled onions and sweet peppers. To my disdain there was a slop of black and brown avocado underneath my egg. The entire avocado was unsightly and parts were rancid. I'm not one to make a big fuss but I know had i ordered my toast plain they would have provided me a fresh avocado, yet they attempted to hide a spoiled one under my toppings. I've never had a bad experience here prior to this so I am still going to give a good rating, and I will come back. But this is a warning to check your food I guess. Wow, this place is a real gem! Great sandwiches, beautiful space, comfy chairs, free internet, and they make a killer London Fog. I was driving through Springfield on my way to a cafe where I could sit and work, when I realized I'd never tried the new restaurants on Main St. I was a little hesitant about going in here initially, expecting it to be a very small, outdated looking place, possibly with flowery wallpaper and 'antiques'. The light reflecting from the windows made it hard to look in, but I stepped through the door anyway, seeing that it was fairly busy with happy looking customers. Boy was I surprised when I walked in! The cafe is huge, with a nice modern, sage green and red brick decor, and a corner where they sell locally made things like gift cards. Being a big fan of grilled cheeses, I went for the 'adult grilled cheese' on foccaccia with pesto. Delicious! Just the right amount of cheese so it feels very stuffed without all melting out, and plenty of pesto. Nice crunchy toasted ciabatta that was soft on the inside. Yum. To my surprise, they not only knew immediately what a London Fog is, saving me the lengthy explanation that usually puts me off ordering one, but they also make a really good one! With London Fogs it's important that you choose a quality tea that shines through the milk, and just the right amount of vanilla so that it's not overly sweet. Mine was very well balanced! I'm curious to try their breakfast menu some time too. They also have a special kids menu for those who have little ones tagging along. My go-to place in Springfield was previously Aquila and Priscilla's, which was nice, similar in style (bit smaller), but whose food just isn't as good as at the Washburne. I'll definitely be back here to sit and work, and enjoy lunch. I fully admit that I'm a little biased when it comes to Springfield establishments, especially on Main, but I think the Washburne officially put an end to my doubts. Deco was beautiful, but ambiance a bit soured by flies that kept bugging us--a bit weird for indoors. We got there early. Staff was lovely. We had drip coffee which was not really all that great tasting to my husband and me. He had biscuits and gravy. I had the Washburn with pork belly. We split and tried both. The pork belly was very tasty. The biscuit was good but I wish there were some non carb options. A few people were lined up out the door waiting for it to open. It was a bit confusing as to if we needed to get our own silverware vs it being delivered with food. It felt like a casual comfy place. I definitely wanted to love this place. I certainly love the feel they've got going... this interior and such is lovely. Not a fan of the entirety of the rest of my visit however. The people here are friendly enough and all that, but their competence is left wanting. Or that's at least the appearance I get after this first and only visit. My partner and I visited on a weekend, not terribly busy (plenty of indoor and outdoor seating). Yet somehow, between the two meals I ordered for myself alone... and the meal we ordered for my partner... they managed to get 2 out of 3 wrong. I'd suggest the wait time between ordering and getting the food may have added to the frustration--it seemed quite long for the amount of business inside. But that's not the issue I have, really. It was the fact that coffee was super bitter, only warm, and empty. I mentioned that it was indeed empty, but nobody got on that. I had to mix the two types of coffee to get a single cup. Then the food, on top of being the wrong orders, wasn't exactly good. I wound up leaving most of the food uneaten and we left without protest. Given how hard they avoided fixing the coffee situation, I held little hope they'd do a lot more on the food orders. We were really hungry and simply over it by the time we wrapped up. To top if off they charged me for a pop tart that never arrived. This is on me, but I also left without grumbling on that. I fully recognize that all of the above are matters I could've brought to their attention, if it were a huge deal to me. But I chose not to, because it wasn't really all that big a deal to me. I acknowledge that tastes vary and no single place will please everyone. I only added the review to point out the number of swings & misses staff had this particular day. I really love the new Washburne. Under the previous owners, the Washburne Cafe had a kind of dated, ladies-who-lunch feel. The food was okay, but considering that we live nearby and only went twice over the course of a year or so, clearly nothing compelling. Now the Washburne has a fresh, clean look, the coffee is great, the service is friendly, and they have a fantastic, if limited, breakfast menu. This weekend my husband had the biscuit breakfast sandwich with pork belly and egg. For the size and quality, it would have been a bargain at twice the price--okay, maybe 1.33 times the price--it was $9. I had the green chile tostada with pulled pork and fried egg. Also super delicious, and though it looked, compared to my husband's sandwich, like a small portion, it turned out to be more than I could eat. I'm not a big fan of bad reviews that hinge on the poor choices/care of a barista... but ultimately, that's a management and training issue. If I were the owner, I'd like to know that the guy at the register didn't give a cr*p, even when told twice how I wanted my americano. Customers like to hear some confirmation of their special requests... which is why I asked him again. Of course, the item arrived wrong. I could tell from his attitude it would. Now the POSITIVE: I went back the next morning bc there was nothing else open nearby. The fresh-baked pop-tarts exceeded expectations... and when I went back to buy another, they were already sold out. Good on you, baker. Two annoyances: 1) Flies. Constant. My husband and I will never return to Washburne Cafe. We were not greeted when we entered the cafe, the lady behind the counter never smiled and her attitude regarding any questions was poor like we were wasting her time. There were flies in the cafe and when I brought it to the attention of the staff they replied that they knew. The pasties looked great, however, because they were not covered I was hesitant to eat them. Food was ok, however, online they showed they had steel cut oatmeal only to find out that the website was two years old and that they have not revised it to meet their customer's needs. I don't understand all the great reviews for this place. The food was nasty--fatty, greasy and slapped on the plate. The photos are not representative of what you receive. The staff were more involved in socializing with each other or friends at the counter--not too interested in serving customers On top of everything the lack of choices for coffee drinks was a surprise for a place supposedly known for coffee. Like many other Yelpers, I think I found a new favorite coffee spot! The Washburne Cafe sits in downtown Springfield on the ever growing Main Street. It's easy to find free street parking, even on the weekend. When I walked in I was pleasantly surprised at how much room there is! It's a great spot to bring your laptop in and get some work done, to sit and have brunch or to grab a coffee and pastry to go. I had the avocado toast and a Chai latte with oat milk. The latte was really good and a great balance of spicy and sweet. The avocado toast was a nice thick cut of bread I just wish it was a little more toasted and had a little more avocado on it but otherwise it was delicious. They have specials but they can run out fast on Saturday so don't delay! I plan to come back for another Chai and to work on some projects and hang out in their comfortable space. They even have yoga in the back I believe through Commonbond Yoga. I'm excited to see businesses like this in Springfield thriving! read more

I'm re-writing my review because I really want people to try this place and see lots of great things about this place. First: New owners really cleaned up the inside and made it look hip. Second: Coffee is so good, much better than previous owner. Interior: Charming and very cool, clean and a welcome addition to Downtown Springfield. To work on: My wife and I went in for lunch the other day and had tuna on greens and what we got was a scoop of tuna on a little bit of greens. The tuna was VERY good but I could have done the same thing at home and paid far less. We had a cup of soup that was VERy good but also very small. Suggestions: To Customers: Try this place and hang in there with them they really should make it and appear to be very much committed to making this work. To Owners: Portions, Portions, Portions. And Impress and surprise me so that when my plate arrives I'm going "Wow, not "Oh". Also really like the interior but you might check with local art places and see if they will hand their art on your walls, many like the Oregon Supported Living Programs arts and culture program will hang their art for free, to show it off. The cafe just came under new ownership and in MY opinion it was not a good change. This review is not about the coffee (which was good) or the food ( they don't really have any yet) but the change in atmosphere. First of all I despise those colorful metal chairs that every business seems to be using, they are in a number of shops in Eugene and now are here. They are tiny and uncomfortable. I don't think they cater well to children, elderly or anyone with a larger than average behind. Chairs aside, the walls are white and have zero art or anything. It is very sterile and uninviting. What I loved about the old decorations was the homey and eclectic feel. I liked the mismatched tables and chairs, the cushion bench seats and pictures on the walls. They went very "hipster" just like every other modern coffee shop. I was disappointed that the new owners didn't go a more unique route. I am sure the owners are very nice and maybe the change is positive for the community in some way I'm unaware of. I will probably give it another try in a few months. I just hope the cafe will be family friendly to adults and kids of all ages. read more

Just moved to Springfield from Boise, Idaho and am on a search for the spots that make me feel most at home. The Washburne is one of them! The coffee is excellent (OAT MILK!) and the pricing is pretty fair. Staff is nice and there is always a spot to sit. The avocado toast is simple and delish, and only $5! The brunch menu has a lot of options, can't wait to try them all. The pastries on the counter are GORGEOUS and drool-worthy. I find it easy to focus here. There is an assortment of seating types and surfaces for any function. I can curl up with a book on the armchair, chat with a friend on the couch, bring out my laptop and or grab a bite or both on any of the lovely tables. It's good for meetings. The acoustics are such that it never gets too loud, just pleasantly ambient. I love the light and the outdoor seating, which has come just in time for the lovely weather! I'm a sucker for the Colombian coffee, and the Chai, and their wall of local crafty goods on sale has yielded just the right last minute gift and/or card, right when I needed it! The staff/owners are also just kind, chill neighborhood folk and it's been a pleasure getting to know them ever since I moved to the neighborhood not long ago. read more
