Deb hands down is my favorite at this salon. She makes my incredibly disgusting eyebrows looks like a million bucks. For the 15 minutes it takes it is always been such a pleasant experience and the ladies up front are such dolls too. I have been to numerous waxing places and this by far is the one I will continue to go to and recommend to my friends and family. Yes, it is on a pricier end, but however, these are trained and experienced estheticians who know what they are doing and are experts. I am not a big waxer--just my brows, maybe four times a year, and please keep them bushy! ;-) But I always have a very good experience here. I've now been once since they re-opened during the COVID pandemic, and I felt very safe and comfortable. They run a clean, tight ship. When I looked at the website, I thought they used hard wax for a Brazilian. Not the case. I was disappointed, but went along with it. Just to see if I was wrong about my preference. My waxing lady was semi-chatty. But not really friendly. She also didn't get all the hair. Which is disappointing, since I'm irritating my lady goods. It was pricey for the lack of friendliness and sub-par job. It was also the only time I got ingrowns. That could have been my fault. It was clean and had a wonderful atmosphere. I saw Erin at the Ballard location for the full eye package - lash tint, brow tint, brow wax. She looked at all the pictures I had saved of eyebrows I liked, listened to my preferences, and went to work. She asked me about my skin care and sensitivity, and was really careful and conscientious. I was SO HAPPY with the results. Like, I looked in a mirror and was instantly like "Oh, yup, I look good." It's not cheap, but I will keep going. At our second appointment (just brow wax this time, I'm saving the tinting for every other month), I told Erin that I was getting compliments and also just felt like I woke up looking cuter (with zero effort on my part), and she was genuinely pleased. You can tell she is not only great at what she does, she really takes pride in her work. Also there is a place, Hot Cakes, just a couple of blocks away where you can get molten lava cakes. If I'm really in the mood to treat myself I make an afternoon of it and go there afterward. read more

So...I finally got my Brazilian done, way overdo. It was on a whim, and I called up The Wax Bar and they took me in an hour. It smelled so lovely when I walked inside, and everything was all white and clean and modern. Chic without priss. Even some cute purses, and nice product display. Anywho, the receptionist was very nice and I met my esthetician Erin within a short minute. The room was cute with some good tunes goin. Erin was very nice, she is new there, too. Although I prefer hard wax, she made up for it with her personality and skill. She gave me some skin care samples to try that sound great, my skin is totally acne-ed out right now. Even though they use strip wax, it was a good experience (well, as good as it can be given the situation) and it is close to work, so I will be returning in 4 weeks to spare myself, and Erin, the horror of the over-grown forest next time. Wow, service has definitely changed here. I've been a loyal customer for a couple of years but today had a horrible experience. I had purchased a groupon and was so excited that I got a great deal at my favorite wax place -- well, I was 10 minutes late, and was told I had violated the rules of the groupon, so I could only do an eyebrow wax and had to forfeit my $69 groupon! I tried to schedule the rest of my services for another time, but was told I had wasted their time and there was no flexibility. Seriously?! I ended up paying $32 for a $24 service! I can understand and appreciate having to follow the rules and respect the waxer's time, but I was only 10 minutes late, not a no - show! I was really disappointed in how I was treated, even after I reminded them I am (was) a loyal customer. they could have offered to provide a different service that still kept me within the appointment timeslot I had reserved. I guess all the positive reviews have gone to their head- but I wont' be darkening their doorstep ever again! read more

Let me start with saying that I've been going to the Wax Bar (Ballard location) for two years for Brazilians. I originally started going when I lived in Seattle and then I moved to Preston, WA. That's important because it's always been worth the drive and I timed it with errands I had on the Seattle side. I had errand to run in Seattle on Saturday (even though my regular waxer, Melissa was gone) and timed my appointment with that. I left Twin Ponds (7.2 miles away) 40 minutes before my appointment and still ended up running late. I called and talked to the receptionist and she said that if I got there in the next five minutes, I would be fine. If I didn't, I would need to be rescheduled. I set the timer on my phone (yes I'm like that) and was there within the five minutes. To top it off, I'm having a hard time getting around since I'm currently on crutches from having surgery. Needless to say, they did not accommodate me. The waxer came out and was like "well do you just want a bikini wax?" Um, no I don't. I work in a customer service oriented job and I was appalled that someone could turn someone away who was obviously having a hard time getting around and just spent 40 minutes trying to get somewhere. The owner even called and tried to tell me that appointments being missed are "frustrating for both parties". I initially made an appointment for Tuesday to go back but will not be keeping it. No one starts out trying to be late and I was shocked, especially being on crutches, being that I made the drive and parked down the street AND crutched to the store and was not even worked with. It is no longer worth the gas and expensive prices to continue. ***An extremely important addition is that Melissa is AWESOME! That's why I still gave 3 stars. I wish it was still worth it to go to her, I just can't justify it anymore. read more

Lame. I'm new to the whole hair removal thing. I went to a local sugaring joint one time, had a great experience but wanted to try waxing to see how it compared. Even though the nose and ears were three times as expensive as I paid for sugaring, I went through all the trouble of registering (clearly as a male) and making an appointment online only to be called today, on the day of my appointment and told they don't do mens' rear ends. Yes that means I want to cancel my whole appointment. It also means I won't be back. I don't know if sugaring truly is better, but I do know they squeezed me in tonight on short notice and did all three body parts much more cheaply than this place would have and they're not weird about mens butts. Go see Deb! So professional and so good at her job. Went to her on a friends recommendation for my first Brazilian and I was so terrified. She thoroughly explained to me the process before we began and assured me that the anticipation is the worst part. It went by so quickly and she did a great job chatting me up and distracting me through the whole waxing without your typical fake or forced "how's the weather" chatter. It's been almost a year now and I can't imagine seeing anyone else! Also, going regularly makes the process way less painful and you get a price break. This was amazing! I could not have chosen a better venue to loose my brazillian v-card. They were so sweet, the music was relaxing but not cheesy, the rooms were comfortable... oh yeah, and they serve beer and wine! I had the peche Lambic before the whole to-do, and It definately took the edge off. I had heard about the procedure from many friends but still had NO idea how thurough a brazillian actually was. New to Ballard and needed an inexpensive brow wax before a big event! Saw on The Wax Bar's website that they have a happy hour which Tuesday-Friday, 1-3pm brow waxing is only $15! Called and got in same day. Was about 5 minutes early and Erin took me in right away. She was amazing and my brows look incredible!! Such an amazing place! I walked in and was shocked by how modern and beautiful it was inside. You would never expect such an awesome salon on 15th in ballard. This place is great, so great in fact that even though I moved out of state, I will still make an appointment here every time i come back to visit friends. I have tried many many other places in the two recent cities I have moved to and I just can not get the same quality waxing. I am not sure if it is because the oils are different in the wax or if it is because the method is better at the Wax Bar, but I am always very happy with the service. Taking care of the lady parts and keeping all areas well groomed for ourselves and our admirers is something most women do begrudgingly, myself included. But dare I say I've started to enjoy my regular visits to the Wax Bar, where Melissa attends to my nether needs. I have been getting Brazilians for a few years now and have tried sugaring, hot wax and cold wax. Melissa uses a combination of cold and hot wax and is well-skilled in the art of friendly chatter while simultaneously professionally taking it all off. She's a master. Not impressed. I like to spend a little money to get "cleaned up" from time to time. But, I had to point out that my brows needed to be trimmed and when I got home I noticed several obvious missed hairs. Frustrating. I was recommended this place for the cool vibe. To make a long story short, there was a small misunderstanding about some fine print on a Groupon. I called and pitched my case (really extenuating circumstances) and shut down by the receptionist. She was friendly enough, I just wasn't satisfied with the rationale. I requested the manager/owner call to explain. In the end, I had a really good convo with Karen, the owner. Not only did she listen to me, but she cared what I thought and made it all right! The magazines are cooler, the skincare therapists aren't snobby and their techniques are far more superb. They spend more time consulting with you to perfect your brow waxing and work with you on repairing damage done by other skincare therapists.
