I still love it here. Sabrina knows how to wax eyebrows in a way that maintains the shape the person wants. She gets it! She is also efficient, making it at least slightly less painful... Hard Wax is $5 more. The best $5 spent- don't hold back! This makes for a faster, cleaner wax with no do-overs. Speaking of, Can I give Taylor a million stars? Please? Sometimes I get ambitious and think such crazy things as "I can climb Mt. Kilimanjaro!" or "I can wallpaper this entire room myself without help!" or the infamous time I attempted to re-wire the office... there went the power... Ahem... such things are funny... However I lost my freaking mind and decided I could wax my own bikini... Stop laughing, serious only Because I wax my legs and that works out fine... Right? No. Just stop. I burned spots on myself. I removed skin in patches. My pores/follicles were bleeding. I still didn't remove all of the hair. I looked like that massive case of herpes hereby known only in textbooks and on the bodies of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. It hurt. Sooo bad. The Horror! I'm surprised I didn't die. So when I healed I made an appointment and it is genius, speedy, fantastic- you book the appointment online, can request your waxxer, request hard wax ($5 extra- worth several times that) and they e-mail your confirmation!!!! I booked an appointment online, spent 45 minutes in traffic, paid for parking just to find an empty, locked salon. No one called or emailed me to let me know they are no longer in business! Actual conversation at work today: Coworker: "Your eyeballs are perfect." Me: "My what?!" Coworker: "Your eyebrows." Me: "Oh. That makes a lot more sense." After The Great Eyebrow Butchering of 2010, it took a long time for these bad boys to grow back in, and that I am finally getting compliments on them again makes my heart soar. Yes, eyebrow compliments make my heart soar. It's the little things, right? The Waxing Room is different from any place I've ever been, and in the best possible way. They take this waxing business seriously. From the way they answer the phone to the forms they have you fill out - yes, they want a background on you before they start ripping hair out of your skin, like they want to know what products you're using, etc. I've never seen that before, but it just makes so much sense! Lisa has done my brows twice now, and I adore her. She's super nice, actually listens to you, she's fun to talk to, and she takes her time to make sure your brows are perfect and that you're happy with them before you walk out the door. The wax was even relatively pain free - bonus! They even go so far as to keep a "chart" on you - I like that they keep track of my history, so she remembers that I have a spot where no hair grows, and she can plan accordingly. Prices are totally reasonable and the best part is that after so many waxes you get one free. AND they don't make you carry around some stupid punch card - they keep track of it for you. Please don't read this review if you are squeamish--or if I know you in person. This is pretty awkward stuff to divulge to someone I know if I'm not familiar with 'em in a Sex & The City way... Went here to fix the possibility of me resembling a Yeti on my lady bits. $55 brazilian, but you get what you pay for: quick & clean (not painless. You're pouring hot wax and ripping out hairs, for cryin out loud). My appointment was early in the morning, so I was seen ASAP & had no waiting problems. Cheryl Ann was super polite and left the room so I could depants and even freshen up if I didn't feel super clean down there--which is nice and embarrassing to think about all at once. You're trimmed down you if you're overgrown, then it's time to bring on the pain! She used hard wax on the more sensitive areas, using an ice pack to speed up the wax's hardening process. She was also kind enough to use the ice pack on me--I definitely needed it! She finished off with a spritz of tea tree oil, as a kind of antiseptic for the party of pain and whatnot that went on down there. The place was clean and pretty, as well as a germaphobe's dream! The table has those disposable sheets covering it, kinda like the doctor's office, she never double dipped a stick in the wax, and used that tea tree spritz I talked about earlier. I like. Wow. I cannot describe how incredibly disapointed I am with this place. All I can say is beware! I originally tried it out a few weeks ago for an eyebrow wax and was thrilled with the results. My brows were clean, even and well-thinned, just as i asked. Because of that I decided to go back for a full brazilian. Big mistake! Everything about the service was awful. The waxer's technique was terrible. She could rarely get a single strip of wax off in one lift, which made things WAY more painful than they needed to be and the service 20 minutes longer than it should have been. And let's face it, when you're getting your lady parts taken care of you want things to be as quick and painless as possible. I thought this was the end of it until I inspected the wax job more closely the next day. It was incredibly stubbley and rough in many places and there were a LOT of hairs left behind. I was livid because I purposefully let the hair grow out to avoid any stubble and the waxer trimmed me prior to waxing so there should have been NO reason to have stubble. I called The Waxing Room to let them know and when I spoke to the man on the phone, who identified himself as the manager he let me know it was because the girl who had worked on me was new, hadn't done many bikini waxes before. She wasn't doing very well and had received a lot of complaints. He never once said sorry and his only solution was to have me come back and they would do what they could to try to fix it. Seriously!?! All of this was supposed to make me feel better. I did go back and another aesthetician who took a look at it agreed that the previous girl had been sloppy and left a lot of hair behind. Interestingly when she fixed me the hard wax she used was a different color and feel than the one the initial girl had used which made me question whether she had even been using the right product. This woman was able to get rid of most of the stray hairs and soften the stubble somewhat but it still looks BARELY better than shaving. She actually did a pretty good job and had great technique so if she had done me the first time I probably would have come back. However, I was personally frustrated by how the manager dealt with the situation and his lack of what it's like to have someone inexperienced give you a painful and sloppy bikini wax experience. Yes there might be some great people that work there but it seems like there is at least one not so great one, which makes it too much of a gamble for me, especially given the price compared to other places. read more

I couldn't spend the weekend in Chicago looking like a yeti's ex-girlfriend. Enter my handy Yelp iPhone app! I was able to find a waxer very close to my friend's apartment and came across rave reviews for The Waxing Room. I had my Wrigley Field-bound boyfriend drop me off nearby, I got quick directions (also on the app) and I walked over there, suitcase in tow. Don't be hesitant when it looks as if this place has been brown-papered up and is closed. It's probably not closed. They just make it a little more private in there by shading the front windows with something that looks like brown paper but might have been window shades (can't remember). The space is cute and clean, with a small waiting area near the front desk (I liked their water dispenser) and then a few treatment rooms for more involved waxing. Three brow chairs are set up right in the main room, so if you are not comfortable with everyone knowing you're getting de-stached, go elsewhere. My regular waxer in Minneapolis has been out of town, so my upper lip and brows have been looking somewhat he/she for the last week (OK, more like two weeks... they were, as the late MJ would have said, BAD). Brittany at The Waxing Room had her work cut out for her. And, bless her heart, she succeeded in taming my face. She was able to fit me in right away. Though she didn't ask too many questions or do any sort of consultation, I made it pretty clear right away that I like my brows bushy and.... she didn't overdo it! Success. Then she moved on to my upper lip, which I always wish they would do first, because it just looks so shameful when you're walking around with a bright red upper lip after you leave... then the world knows about your lady mustache (though, obviously I don't care that much because I'm always writing reviews about my lady mustache). Brittany used a hard wax there, which she said is nice for certain areas because you can go over them more than once and be a lot more thorough in snagging those little hair. You can't do that with normal wax because it also takes off a layer of skin (I learn something every day). After the waxing was through, the esthetician laid on a thin compress with tea tree and lavender oils. It was cooling and smelled like heaven, but I always worry that I'll break out from things like lavender oil (tea tree is fine for me--it's actually an acne-fighter). We'll see how that works out tomorrow. The damage for the two services was $35, which is reasonable for quality and the amount of time they spend on you (about 30-40 min). Remember to bring some cash for a tip, because you cannot add the tip on credit card charges. If you are a regular, they also have a deal where if you get a certain number waxes, you get one free! read more

I've been going to The Waxing Room for a little over 2 years now and really love this place. I wanted to try bikini waxing a few years back and am so happy I started here. If I had had a bad experience somewhere it would have totally turned me off. I figured I'd go to a place that specializes in only waxing. The salon is clean and the staff is friendly. I've gone to many of it's waxers at one point or another, bit I adored Lynda because she was friendly and fun to talk with making the experience much easier. When you are getting your nether regions waxed you want to feel comfortable. Lynda is not longer there, but Cheryl Ann is also really good. I've tried both bikini and Brazilian waxing as well as eyebrow and lip wax and have been very satisfied with each service. I've never had a bad experience here and suggest this place to all of my friends. They do accept credit cards, but tips need to be left in cash. I also usually make an appointment, but haven't had much issue getting a last minute appointment. read more

I'm going to be fair. I came to the waxing room sometime last year and it was a good experience, a little on the pricey side but not such a big deal. However, I basically walked out on them this morning after I was left in the waiting room way past my appointment was supposed to start.. left with no options. This morning I came into my appointment (they had called to confirm the day before, and i arrived early). The person at the front desk told me my person was a little late and would take about 10 mins. I was fine with that until 10 turned into 20. I sat there without any updates from the receptionist. She explained that my person was in with another client and it was going over time, part of me thinks that was understandable. What wasn't understandable was that I was left sitting for what was becoming an indefinite amount of time. When I finally said I was leaving all the receptionist said was "okay." Really? She didn't try to convince me to stay, didn't try to reschedule me, or anything! I'm not encouraged to go back. read more

I've had mixed experiences here. My eyebrows are naturally extremely light, so I have them tinted and waxed so I don't have to fill them in every day. The first time I came here, I went to Cherylanne. She was fantastic - my brows looked phenomenal and she covered up most of my redness. I am super fair-skinned, so I have a tendency to turn pretty red during a brow wax. The second and third times I came here, I wasn't very pleased. I truly cannot remember the names of the people who did my tint and wax, but they definitely weren't Cherylanne. My brows were way too dark after my second visit, and the wax was too dramatic. I looked like I had aged several years simply because of my eyebrows. After the color faded a bit (which took a few days), I felt much better. After my third visit, I decided it would be my last. The woman who did my wax missed a bunch of hairs. I'm not Groucho Marx by any means, and this has never happened before. Considering the place isn't cheap, I think I'll find another salon for my waxing needs. read more

The first time I went to the Waxing Room for an eyebrow wax, I saw Lynda and she was fantastic! My eyebrows had been in bad shape and she took the time to not only fix them up, but discuss a plan of action to whip them into shape over the next couple of visits--I was very pleased! Fastforward a month, I really needed an eyebrow touchup for a tv shoot I'd just found out for early the next morning. Unfortunately, Lynda wasn't working that day, so I was scheduled with someone else. I went in and described what I liked (defined arch) and what I didn't (the comma-esqe/straight look). What did the artist do? She gave me the latter... and made them uneven, no less! I expressed my disappointment and she offered to fix them... but made them worse. I'm very meticulous about my brows so when the artist called the manager over, I was relieved. She attempted to fix the uneven, now-awfully shaped brows, but too much damage had already been done. Now I'm stuck with a permanent cock-eyed look: one semi-decent brow and one downward/rogue brow. Hopefully, a filler will be able to make them look somewhat like they belong on the same face. read more

I've been going to the Waxing Room for a few years now for brazilians and I've seen most of the aestheticians for a wax - I don't mind switching between them because they're pretty consistent with skill level, in my opinion, so when I schedule online I'll select "any". They're very good and I would rate the service 4 stars on average. However, I won't ever be going back there again because of the treatment I received over the phone this morning. I wouldn't give them any stars at all for this: I called 20 minutes before my 11:30 appointment to say I was running late. The woman on the other end get very upset and asked me how late because they were booked solid and if it was more than 10-15 minutes this would throw off the entire day. I apologized. She went on to elaborate on how me being 10-15 minutes late would push back my appointment by 10-15 minutes which would push back every appointment thereafter by 10-15 minutes. I asked her to cancel the appointment altogether. She asked me if I could reschedule for tomorrow (still with attitude) and I said, "no." At this point I didn't even feel like going. So then she said that I sounded upset and I could still come in today, she would just have to shorten the lunch break of the girl who was supposed to wax me today. I just told her that I wasn't coming in ever and said bye. While I know how difficult it is when people run late, cancel, no-show, or show up and expect to be seen because I've worked in the service industry, I have NEVER talked to a customer that way. And in however long I've been going there I've only ever called once before because I was running late - this wasn't a holiday and it's not a chronic issue, and I feel like this situation could have been handled exponentially better on her end. I would have even preferred her politely ask me to reschedule right off the bat. So I guess I would recommend anyone to go there who likes good, consistent service - but if you think you might POSSIBLY be running late one day, find another place to get waxed. read more

This waxing establishment is conveniently placed near by multiple bus lines. The aestheticians (for the most part) here know what they are doing with wax. I have been here twice for a brazilian wax and once for an eyebrow wax. Sabrina is amazing with brazilians and wields the hard wax here quickly and efficiently with a gentle hand. When I came the second time, I was slightly disappointed since I ended up with a different person because I was 10min late. The person was okay, but I was weirded out b/c she didn't really use the hard wax and used the soft wax with strips for the majority of the time. Because of the use of the soft wax and the lack of a gentle hand (like applying pressure to the freshly wax spot to relieve pain), the brazilian was a bit more painful that it should've been. Again, I'm a brazilian veteran and there were steps that could've made it a less painful experience. The brazilian wax results were good and there was minimal hair, but it was sore down there longer than usual. Next time, I'll make sure I get Sabrina and she's the reason I only docked a star. I would ask questions about the use of hard wax especially if you don't get Sabrina. Hard wax is a brazilian's best friend so it should be primarily used. read more

I had an appointment here scheduled at 10am, when I showed up early, the doors were locked and no lights were on. The owners showed up after my appointment was to start. It was freezing outside and even though I only waited about 20 minutes, it was pretty uncomfortable. Also I had to spend about 15 mins filling out paperwork before, which is standard, but I would assume if a salon knew they had an appointment scheduled at 10, they would arrive early to prep. Also they wax was not hot enough, obviously because nothing was prepped when I was ready for my appointment which resulted in several bumps and ingrown hairs after, but she was very nice. The people that work there are very friendly, but I had another appointment after that I had to cancel, and I didn't actually leave the salon until 11am, a full hour after my appointment was scheduled, normally my waxes take no more than 20 minutes, and the wax was OK, not great, not terrible, but not something I would come back for. Also you have to tip in cash instead of on your card, not a huge deal, but highly inconvenient if you do not have cash on you. Overall, a "Meh" is in order. read more

If you're picky about your waxing needs (and really, who isn't?), this is the place to go. I haven't had a bad wax in there. Not to get personal, but if you're going to a place to get a bikini wax, you want to know you're getting the best service. If you go there enough times, you'll find someone that you really trust and feel comfortable with. The lady I finally decided is my favorite is really good and very... ummm... detail-oriented. The prices are reasonable, and not crazy high like some places in the yuppie-infested neighborhoods (read: Lakeview, Lincoln Park, and Gold Coast). The important thing, you will leave there with a little less hair on your body, but a lot happier. Note: if you are there to get an eye-brow wax, they may put you in one of the chairs by the window. I don't know about you, but I don't usually like people walking by on the sidewalk to be able to see me during my personal grooming time. They will accommodate you if you ask them to do the waxing away from the front window. Also, make sure you call for an appointment. First, it will make life much easier to have an appointment. Second, no other place can bring a smile to your face when you call as this place does, as they answer the phone by saying "Hi, this is the Waxing Room, how may we wax you?" I've heard some pretty scary stories about waxes, especially bikini/brazilians. About a year and a half ago, I decided to go for it and just went to the Waxing Room since it is in my neighborhood. My first experience was great!! The Waxing Room is clean, I had no problem getting an appointment same day, and I was in and out in about 15 minutes. I had Elisa, who unfortunately, is no longer at the waxing room. Since then, I had a few so-so experiences but it was fast and clean and I wasn't ready to take a chance on a new place. I have now found a new favorite in Shana. She is fast, relaxed, and a good conversation, definitely not awkward! It's a bit harder to get an appointment because of the Groupon but it's stil worth it. I've recommended this place to 2 friends so far and they have had great experiences as well - and it was the first place we all tried for a first "down-there" wax! read more

I moved to Chicago a year ago, and have been looking for a decent place to get a Brazilian wax ever since. I've tried out quite a few places, and so far have only had one other great experience (though it was too expensive for me), which was Sinead's on Sheffield. Yesterday's trip to The Waxing Room was great. Alyssa did the dirty deed, she was super-sweet and funny, and took her time to make sure the job was done correctly. I loved that of all the places I've been in the city so far, this was the only place where the esthetician left the room to let me drop trou and arrange myself on the table, and she even gave me a little towel for modesty's sake (not that getting a Brazilian allows for much modesty, but hell, it's the thought that counts, right?). The only downside of the entire trip was the track lighting, which was shining right in my eyes the entire time, but at $55 for an 'artistic Brazilian' done quickly, correctly, and relatively painlessly, I'll deal with some lighting issues. Also, they do dye jobs...on your wooha! I didn't go in for that yesterday, but we'll see about next time :-) read more

I will never shave my tra-la-la ever again. This place is clean, professional, and knows what their doing. I went to Cheryl Ann for the first time when I had a groupon for a bikini wax. She made me feel as comfortable as one possibly can with their genitals exposed to a complete stranger, and she worked quick. The first time definitely hurts and takes longer, but when I went back a month later, it was practically painless and took no time. I live in the neighborhood around the waxing room and had walked by it many times. Since it is summer and I was going to be wearing a swimsuit a lot I figured "why not try it?" I had never gotten waxed before. When I went in I expected the worst. It did hurt a little (what do you expect, you're getting hair ripped out of you!) but it was not nearly as painful as I thought it would be. The place is very clean and professional and the girls were so much fun! They made me feel really comfortable and not too awkward for my first time. As usual, I bought a groupon for a brazilian wax so I could test this place out. I feel similarly about this place as I do Trim... they do everything right and this would be a perfectly acceptable place for your monthly wax. A couple of pro's would be that she used some hard wax on me (although I wish she would have done the whole thing with hard wax) and normally the wax is $45, which is actually a decent price in my book (and $10 less than trim). My only con would be that she didn't really do any post-wax grooming/tweezing so I had a decent amount of stray hairs that I had to pluck myself. If I weren't so committed to always trying new waxing places to add to my yelp list and not so addicted to groupon, I would probably come back here. read more

So today I got my second brazillian wax. At first I was a little scared of having to meet a new beauty technician but it was SO WORTH IT! Mariana is AMAZING! She's a extremely friendly talkative Bulgarian woman who literally tweezes every little hair you might have left from waxing until there is NO MORE! I have been getting my eyebrows done for 10 years and I have never had a reaction like what happened at The Waxing Room. I'd been a couple times before and it was fine- nothing spectacular. Just extremely average. The people on the phone are short and rude- but it was affordable and close so whatever. Brittany, however, burned my skin off both sides on my eyebrows. It's two days later and I still have a huge red mark from where the wax was put. It hurts like heck and I keep applying aloe and hoping it will go away. Walked in when I was in desperate need of a brow wax. They were able to accommodate me immediately. My experience was "ok" - nothing phenomenal. Not a lot of small talk, just sit in the chair, was asked what I wanted then shortly thereafter given a mirror asking me to take a look. There were still some "stragglers" but was told that I can't touch those because it was within the browline. Not overly expensive so can't complain. I've had some better treatments at the Aveda school down the street but I know that is a crapshoot. After closer examination I have taken away stars for the following reasons: 1. When I got home I was better to analyze the wax job. From this I saw stubble you would recieve from shaving. I remember telling Shana I might need a trim, but she said since the hair was so sparse no need.I think this was a big mistake seeing how the root was obviously not taken out. 2. I went to The Waxing Room this afternoon for my usual Brazilian. LOVED IT! The wax was quick, thorough and as painless as it gets. Very professional and the girls were nice. I'm going back this week to get the eyelash extensions! I've been doing those for the better part of a year, but this will be my first time at The Waxing Room. I was able to walk in on a Saturday afternoon for an eyebrow wax. They did a decent job for $20. Two things that would keep me from going back (unless I need another last minute walk-in appointment): 1. The eyebrow wax took place on a dais (that's right, a dais) in what is essentially the lobby. While I doubt anyone walking by on Halsted could actually see in through the window, it still weirded me out that they MIGHT be able to. 2. The wax took 25-30 minutes, which seemed a bit long. The natural shape of my eyebrows is good, so I really only needed, as they say, a "clean-up." But a lot of the clean-up consisted of getting stray hairs missed by the wax. I consider The Waxing Room a decent place but not one to go out of my way for. Make sure you bring cash for tipping, as you cannot add tip to credit card payments. read more

Scheduled my first appointment here, but unfortunatly will probably not return. Not because of the location/place/ or service; but because of the prices. I got my eyebrows and lip waxed. The lady who did my wax was nice and good at it. However, I did not like that I had to sit in a chair in the front window of the business to get my wax done. I didn't like the fact people could just walk up to the window and stare at me while I was getting waxed. The prices were a bit much in my opinion. I ended up spending about $40 for the lip and eyebrow wax (I think that was with tip). That is a bit much for 10 minutes of service. I did like that they called me and thanked me for my business the next day. That was a nice shock, but still not worth $40. read more

Yes, waxing is painful. Yes, it's expensive. Possibly the only good thing about a long-distance relationship is only having to think about this sort of thing every three months or so. But when the deed has to be done Mariana is the woman who will make you feel completely at ease. The five stars in this review is completely for Mariana. She's fast, accurate, and reads her clients well. She's no-nonsense and kicks ass. Go visit her but not so often that she can't fit me into her schedule!!! read more

Today was my first time back at The Waxing Room since they reopened in June and although the location is different, the service was still impeccable. The services are solely being done by Cheryl-Ann, the founder and owner of the establishment. I was so sad to hear that she was no longer able to keep her original staff on as Jeena was my go-to girl and she was amazing but I am still glad that she was able to keep her business going. Cheryl-Ann is incredibly sweet and a rockstar esthetician. She now operates out of a small suite in a larger salon building a few blocks from their old location and the new space is so quaint, cute, and clean! I got a Brazillian bikini wax and she was so quick and efficient yet precise and painless. She made sure to ask me exactly what I wanted and provided me with the best service possible. I felt so comfortable with her, especially knowing that she is the owner! She also uses hard wax, which was an original selling point for me when I first started using their services about two years ago. This type of wax makes the experience much less painful! Just a heads up that she takes payment through cash, Zelle, and Venmo, which still gives the customer a good range of options. Not to mention, at $57 for my waxing, her prices are so reasonable and you are receiving such professional service. I started going here when I actually lived in the area. This place, though pricier, is totally penny. I have found my regular eyebrow waxer, her name is Marianna, she is absolutely perfect. She is gentle and never rushes through. She asks questions and is honest about what your eyebrows are capable of. I appreciate honesty about scruples about what I want and what I can have. I have had a few artistic Brazilians and they have been as close to pleasant as they can be when someone is pouring hot wax on your lady parts, and then ripping it off. Regardless, I don't keep up on the waxing down below. Oh, and bonus, after 10 waxes, the 11th is free! Total surprise and completely awesome. I have done the full brazilian wax around the world (from asia/europe/usa/canada) and i have a few things to say about this place: Service - very professional, quiet, big open lobby/sitting room. 5 stars. Ambience - clean, clean and clean. 5 star for this. Room - also clean, albeit a bit dark, but that helps with easing the tension I reckon. Now the actual treatment with Anastasia - She was very friendly and nice, however, I was not told that the soft wax would be used along with the hard/hot wax (which is far more superior and better for results). So my full brazilian wax was basically 80% soft wax, and 20% hard hot wax in the private area only. She also used a tweezer near the end for more stranded hairs. Once i got home to take a full look at the result, I was not pleased, hence the 3 stars. It was not completely clean, I still saw some short hairs and stubs, and this is unacceptable because I definitely had enough length on the hair growth (over 2 months), I've never had hair left so she was not 100% thorough unfortunately. I may go back to this place, but I won't use Anastasia again. The price was expensive and I think they should offer a discount for first-time visitors, not just for students! read more
