Well very disappointed in this situation at this establishment! I walked in and was greeted at first with professionalism. But as I was seating I was greeted with ignorance by the owner trying to tell me about ADA compliance and would refuse service if I wasn't complaint to his orders. With out arguing I left. Didn't have the patience to educate someone about service dogs! Don't get me wrong, food is good but need to be ADA compliance educated and not listen to random people! This family managed place is a semi-favorite for locals whom do not want to drive into the Woodlands or Conroe-its a burger, chicken fried steak, fried catfish type place in a very casual setting. You are liable to see family members studying for high school and college work while waiting tables, service is fair but friendly. The owner visits the tables often and is a friendly person talkiing often about the business and his family. The food? I complain about this place all the time, but we seem to always go back for one more stab-the french fries are like soft potatoes, a speciality, fried catfish has corn meal coating but the all you can eat deals on Friday nights. We have had burgers, chicken fried steak, chili, grilled cheese, all good fare and reasonably priced, but, two glasses of wine and dinner for $40 not a bad value. My husband and I came here for lunch. He ordered the All American burger with fried pickles. The burger was massive and very juicy, delicious indeed. The fried pickles were delicious as well. My husband loves fried pickles and I swear it was his favorite part of his meal. The sweet teas was great as well. I had ordered the grilled catfish with fried okra and macaroni and cheese. Now I was not disappointed with my meal at all. I enjoyed every bit of it. The catfish was the best I had in a while. Our server was amazing. I think his name was Austin. His people skills were excellent from the moment we sat at the booth. If you are looking for a great meal at a great price along with some friendly service, this is the place. Great home cooking. Onion rings are awesome. Grandson burger maven says their burger's the best. Granddaughter chicken tenders aficionado raved about her meal. Fried green tomatoes we love. We'd go more often but we prefer water with our meals, and they haven't figured out how to filter the iodine taste of their Conroe water. When I'm in the mood for a beer, it's my choice for great casual fare. Waitstaff and owner are charming. They definitely add to the wonderful down-home feel of TWSC. Stopped in for a Sunday late breakfast. Nice atmosphere. Seated immediately. Hot, strong coffee. Took a while for our order to arrive. My eggs , sausage and hash browns were room temp. My wife's hash browns were hot. My grits were hot. Her biscuits and sausage gravy tasted ok but nothing special. The biscuits were not quite cooked all the way. We did eat the food . Taste was ok. We rode our bikes to the restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised walking in. It had a good atmosphere and friendly staff. We were told we could sit anywhere we wanted. Our waitress cam minutes after we sat down. The coffee was good and fresh. We placed our orders and shortly afterwards the owner came to our table. Very friendly gentleman. My wage was pleasantly surprised to find that breakfast and lunch were served all day. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs. She ordered the chicken salad sandwich. It was all very good. We definitely plan to go back often and highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Depends on how busy they are! Been here when not very busy and I would give 10stars but when they get busy it is obvious they are understaffed and they rush the food. The patty melt and fries have been AMAZING (not busy) and average at best (busy)......I will continue to dine here because it is local and I love to support my local places :) OK went today (6/3) on a spur of the moment choice and boy oh boy I remember why I fell in love with this place! Tonight was our first time to try Whistle Stop. It surpassed our expectations! Since coming back from COVID we never know what kind of service or food we are gonna get trying new and old restaurants. Whistle stop was great! The service was impeccable. The server was very knowledgeable and had been coming there as a customer since she was little. The food was very good. Decided to try this place based on the prior reviews and was greatly disappointed. First of all, this place is 40 Min just to get here so based on reviews, I felt it was worth the trip to try. We got there and there was a wait, no problem, took about 20 min and then we were seated. They serve breakfast all day, Friday-Sunday which is great, and my family and I were all looking forward to breakfast during lunch time. We ordered, chocolate chip waffle, the conductor which included eggs, choice of meat, hash brown and pancakes, and a waffle with eggs, sausage and hash browns. The waitress took it, came back within ten minutes and informed us they are out of waffle and pancake mix. WTH, why serve breakfast all day if your not going to keep up with the demand. My son doesn't like anything but pancakes, and we should have left when we were told this but we ended up modifying our order to accommodate and was disappointed even further. We ordered the breakfast tacos which were ok, the box car breakfast in which it states hash brown and they are not hash browns but skillet potatoes and scrambled eggs which were ok, but the only truly tasty items were the english muffin and bacon. My son didn't eat anything because even the French fries I ordered he didn't like, and I felt over all was a waste of 30$. Please avoid, not worth wasting your money on. read more

My husband and I just moved to Conroe from San Diego and I had to have an unexpected surgery. The day I left the hospital we decided to eat at the Whistle Stop Cafe. My husband went in to place an order then came to the car to wait for our food with me. It may not seem like such a big deal but the young lady brought our food to the car and with just that little gesture I was impressed. I ordered the tuna salad which was also impressive. I would have just been happy with tuna and lettuce but you also get tomatoes, croutons and cheese. Thank you for being kind even if you didn't know I had just left the hospital. read more

Great little hometown cafe. My First visit and I was really impressed. Not too busy when I got there but People started coming in. Young Lady immediately took my drink Order and gave me a menu. Lots To choose from. I decided on the Hamburger steak with onions and Brown gravy, mashed potatoes And corn. The entire meal was Delicious. I'm still not understanding what opening at 8am and having a shipment come in has anything to do with not being the very least cordial with customer. I haven't been in for a good while so I treated myself yeterday. NOT a smile or warm greeting to be had and when I asked if everyone is ok nobody is smiling or talking to customers like I've expereance every other time. I was told well we just opened and a shippment came in; the greeter acted like I insulted her. I even told the guy who came to the front that I think I insulted her. What happened to the upbeat additudes and the comunication with customers. I mean even when they came to the table to check on me they came with stoic faces "Hows the food" "Do you need anything else"; it would have made a differeance with just a simple smile and eye contact. The food was ok. Prices ok. It looks like they have some good dinner specials and a long happy hour. Cute decor. Our waitress didn't smile one time. Seemed very unhappy or angry. She had reddish hair in a bun on top of her head. She dropped off our check while still eating and before asking if we wanted desert, which we had planned on. I had already had a large brunch and was just joining a friend that was eating lunch and we both planned to get desert there together. We ended up just leaving as she never came back after that. (You check out up front). The oil and vinegar bottles were quite sticky. My friend had a sandwich and ordered it on toast but the bread wasn't toasted. The waistress just dropped it off and ran off, never came back to see if it was right. With a different waistress we may have had an experience that would make us return. The servers are great. The owner is an idiot. His entire staff was in the weeds but he found it more helpful to stand around and talk to people about being a builder and shooting the bull. When your staff is down you STEP UP! Would come back because of the servers only. Super nice. But I will not support that man by giving him another cent. read more
