After a horrible experience the first time we tried this place, we figured maybe they had a bad night and should give them a second chance. HUGE MISTAKE! We sit at the bar and after 5 minutes or so, we place our drink order. So far so good. We then place our app order. Stuffed quahog and the Portugese Littlenecks. Nothing too ground breaking here. Littlenecks cook in about 6 minutes and I am sure the quahog is ready to be popped in the oven on the prep line. 45 minutes later, no apps. Bartender is back in the kitchen 3 times. Still no apps. We get to talking to a local resident next to us who ordered a salad with salmon, and she says that this was her second try at the restaurant as well and no realizes why she never came back. Her salad took about an hour. For a salad... Ok, so now we place dinner. Well we should have just paid at that point and gone to the Squire for a burger cause now we wait another hour for our dinners. Which when they come out are ice cold. Mind you we had baked cod and a pasta dish. Neither of those should take more than 20 minutes to prep. We have now been in this place over 2 hours and didn't get to eat a dinner. What a huge disappointment. Sad thing is this place can get away with bad service because they are attached to an inn in downtown. So people will never stop eating there. But hopefully with a few more bad reviews, they will figure something out or close. read more

Another seafood disappointment on Cape Cod. To be succinct, everything was over cooked. The lobster garlic bread was basically a bowl of bread with some kind of ricotta, lobster and Mozzarella. Very little lobster and not much garlic. The crab cakes? More like bread crumb cakes. They use minced crab that is barely perceptible. The stuffed mushrooms were OK but they didn't have seafood. Another amazing visit to the Wild Goose Tavern. While on the cape with my friend I knew a stopping Chatham would not be complete without a visit to the goose. The restaurant is just fine. Not good, not bad; just fine. This would be a good place to take high school aged kids or your grandparents. It has the ambiance of a doctor's office and it's lit up so bright you'd think you were eating dinner in a college cafeteria. The beef tenderloin was half decent. The sides were meh as the broccoli was practically raw and it was just the stalk until it made it to the plate. Skip the chicken and dumplings unless your expectation is something dumped out of a Campbells soup can and thrown in the microwave. The pear martini was great though. read more

We made a reservation here during our visit to Chatham, and we enjoyed sitting outside on their patio and people watching on the road. The inside looked very cute though - would have enjoyed seeing the ambiance in there as well! We started with wines and soup - the French onion was delightful, and the clam chowder was good as well. We each ordered cod - me the baked cod, and my friend the fish and chips. Both were good, filling meals, nothing extra special but definitely did the job. EXTREMELY upset to be writing this review. I was overcharged $40 on my credit card and reached out to the establishment multiple times to get this straightened out. I left a $31 cash tip (20%) and was still charged $40 additional to my bill. When I called, I was put on hold each time, which is fine, but was told the manager (who I was informed is new, as if that matters in this situation) would call me back within 5 minutes. Never heard a peep. I do not live in the area, or else I would have just gone in person to figure things out since phone calls were clearly not working. I ended up having to call my bank to dispute the charge. Just a complete waste of my time and a very frustrating situation to be in overall. The place is spacious, beautiful and CLEAN. The restaurant is in an Inn, and on the super busy main street in Chatham - no matter the time of year. Our preferred places were booked and WGT was open for reservations, so why not? Solid bar and a decent wine list, nice staff. Bar staff is a hoot! The fish and chips were REALLY good... and here is where this place falls off a star for me a bit - the cost and quality of some items leaves a lot to the imagination = the lobster quesadilla. Not lacking in flavor. But for $20+ it was lacking lobster. Not cool folks. I understand its a tourist town. But if you are going to charge that, make sure the lobster has some "me time" in every bite. It is pricey. It's Chatham on the Cape after all. A nice place to stop on Main Street, with outdoor seating as well as very spacious indoor seating. We happened to wander in at a good time and were able to get a table for 7. Decent selection of local and other beers, and the service was efficient and helpful. Lots of votes for the calamari and the coconut shrimp. The lobster roll was pricey (as they are everywhere on the island), but it was well received. Fish and chips were a little greasy, but tasty. After walking into the Squire after a shop owner told us it was "cute" in there, we quickly left and came to this beautiful restaurant for lunch. The Squire was a total dump. Moving on, we sat at the bar here and the bartender was very nice. Amazing Bloody Mary. Excellent chicken sandwich. Came on toasted cranberry bread with Brie and arugula and cranberry mayo. Not that it matters - we are already home. So we miss out on Valentines dinner that we reserved a week ahead , we miss out on any other local spots being open. PLEASE BE TRANSPARENT ABOUT AN EXTENDED WSIT RIGHT AWAY!!! I know we were not the only couple that had this experience tonight. At least we have the memories of one of the most DISAPPOINTING meals ever! I made the mistake of booking a dinner reservation for our first evening at the Chatham Wayside Inn without checking the reviews, and as a result my family has lost all trust in me. Vacation planning card revoked! We were seated promptly upon arrival and Jacob, a nice young man, filled our water glasses immediately. After deciding what to order we waited...and waited. We requested our server who finally came to our table apologetic for the wait. Okay- no problem, we understand she was busy and the restaurant was short staffed. We asked for some recommendations, placed our orders. This was the peak of our dining experience. The lobster garlic bread had a tablespoon... a literal TABLESPOON- at best- of shredded dry lobster meat, a tablespoon of ricotta cheese and a half a loaf of sliced Italian bread ($26). This was the recommended appetizer by both Jacob and our server. It was barely okay. Our server offered us additional "sauce" for our remaining 1/4 loaf of dry bread- she already knew. The halibut ($41) was served without ANY seasoning, (none, zilch, nada, zero, MIA) rice, (four of us agreed Uncle Ben's microwave rice in a pouch was better!) and suspicious frozen vegetable medley (also missing any seasoning or flavor). The baked cod ($36)- same sides and same sad story. Both the cod and halibut fish died for nothing. All entrees were served lukewarm. Seated at 7pm, appetizer served at 8pm, entrees arrived at 8:15pm. We could not get out of here fast enough...we were dinner hostages! Cocktails were not worth mentioning. read more

We are currently staying at the Inn attached to the restaurant. We arrived on time and we're greeted promptly and seated by the lovely hostess. Our waiter came over quickly and took our drink order. Juan Carlos was a very attentive and kind waiter. My husband got the fried clams and I got baked cod. Both were fantastic! My cod was cooked perfectly and the veggies on the side were well seasoned and delicious. We both got a cocktail (or two!) and the drinks were strong and tasty. One of the best French 75's I've ever had. The decor was old cape cod style, and the vibe was laid back and not too touristy. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. Very disappointed to see what has happened to a once solid dinner choice. To start off with the service it is extremely slow. The oysters are still a solid choice here and so are the clams on the half shell. The steak was cooked almost to my liking and had decent seasoning. However, the mashed potatoes that paired with that strip steak were pathetic. They tasted as if someone had boiled potatoes, mashed and threw them on the plate. There was no taste of cream, butter and let alone salt. I had to return with a salt lashing after another. Atleast 7 times I had to re salt the potato's after tasting. Our visit didn't meet the standards you'd expect from a place like this. Both our service and quality of food were lacking. Dinner started off good with the Fried Brussels Sprouts. They were cooked and seasoned perfectly. There was some miscommunication between our server and the kitchen afterwards that resulted in a very long wait between appetizers and dinner. The restaurant was fairly dead by the time we were sat around 7:20 on a Saturday, and still our party of 6 waited more than an hour between courses. When dinner finally arrived, it wasn't what you'd expect. The Goose Burger I ordered was flavorless and a ball of grease. Extremely rarely do I not take home leftovers, but I left most of the burger and fries here. Others in our party thought their meals were so-so, but not befitting the price charged. My wife was happy with her Caesar Salad, to which she added grilled chicken. The restaurant compensated for the long wait time with 3 free desserts for our party. We ordered the Flourless Chocolate Cake, which was decent, and 2 of the Crème Brulee. The brulee came out as sugar-topped scrambled eggs. With tip, our meal came to $300. We had much better meals on this trip for far less. If I happen to be in Chatham again, I'd skip this place. read more

Showed up at 4:40 with a party of 8. Was initially told by the hostess that our party of 8 could not sit outside (there was not one table seated). Asked if we could split into two parties of 4 and was told no but was then told we could sit in two parties of 4 if we had separate checks and we agreed. Then waited until 5 to sit because we were told the dinner menu didn't start until 5, even though other parties were sat before 5. Then waited until 5:15 for our server. Server was very nice. Entrees were inedible. Check came and (shockingly!), we were given one bill despite the orders from the (rude) hostess. Do not come here! We made our 8:30 reservation for outdoors to watch people on Main Street, but upon arrival, they sat us indoors in the very back of the restaurant. The host brought no drink menu, no specials, and our waiter did not come over for ten minutes. We ordered drinks and food, but forty minutes later we had not even received our drinks. When we explained our frustration, neither the host nor our waiter apologized for the delay. The food was extremely mediocre. Soup came out cold, the burger they brought me had cheese even when I didn't order cheese, etc. It was not busy enough at all for this to be happening, in fact there were many empty tables. The long wait time, wrong seating, wrong order, and dismissive service left a bad taste and I would not go out of my way. They had a weird sticky consistency and a starchy taste. Cheeseburger tasted odd. It had a watery texture consistent with being in the freezer for too long. They did have large salads that were much to big for one person and I am told a decent baked fish. Prices were high. Quality was low. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. The waitress often forgot our drinks and drink refills, requiring us to get up several times to remind her. We waited an hour and 20 minutes for our food, and when it finally arrived, the server brought out extra dishes we hadn't ordered. Additionally, a cup of chowder we requested with our meals was missing. We noticed we were charged for the additional items when we received the bill. After asking to speak with the manager, she removed the extra charges. Still, she included a mandatory gratuity since our party had more than eight people, despite the poor service and unsatisfactory food. To make matters worse, the manager did not personally bring out the adjusted bill or apologize; she had the waitress deliver it instead. We left the restaurant after 3:15 PM, far later than intended.
