This was our 2nd visit in 2 weeks. We have been to Pates several times in the past. The menu shared many items with what had been on the Ocean House menu before Anthony Silvestri left to join Pates. Mixed bag. We were seated in the back room with the bar as the main dining room was closed. I found the room too brightly lit, tables spaced very close, and the decor cold (IMHO). The wedge salad and Thai chicken dumplings were a great start. And the pan seared salmon and pan seared swordfish were also very tasty with interesting sides. But, the baked stuffed shrimp was only okay, as the orange-citrus sweet sauce was overpowering and off-putting and the forbidden rice was inedible. My friend's pork chop was way overcooked and dry. The service was a big detractor. Our waitress barely engaged with our table of four. She arrived with our main course and noticed all the appetizer plates hadn't been cleared and set our hot dinners on a tray stand while she removed empty plates. Awkward! She never checked on our dinners, and when we were almost finished, she returned to ask if we wanted more wine or another cocktail. Too late! It's unfortunate as some of the food was really good, but at $100/person (with tip), I'd expect better. read more

We've been going to the "new" Pate's since it opened, but usually as a last resort, despite the fact it's less than two-minutes from our home. For us, the menu and preparation leave a lot to be desired. For instance, they don't have au jus for the prime rib, which doesn't compare to the prime rib at the "old" Pate's. Nor does anything else on the menu. Last night's special was a surf and turf. It consisted of a 4-ounce steak and 3 shrimp for $56! My wife ordered a salad with chicken. The piece of chicken that accompanied it was inedible. It was rock hard, and she managed just one bite. I called it to the attention of our server, but it remained on our bill for $16! I can't think of another restaurant within 10 miles where you get less for your money. I have lived in Chatham for many years and frequented Pates consistently. Tonight is my birthday and i asked for a nice table bc it is my birthday. I never ask for favors especially in season. We were seated in a back room with many screaming kids. I love kids, i have 4 of them. This was unfortunate. Then there were very long wait times for food. Very slow service. We ordered as soon as we had a waiter and it took 1.5 hr before we had our entree. Food was good, but it was not great experience. read more

Things have definitely gone down a bit and quality and consistency with their food. Caesar salad was mostly stems and barely any green. The chicken with rigatoni, asparagus, and pancetta, was very greasy due to the fact that the pancetta was not rendered out before it was added to the dish. What did I have the pitbull or the pit bowler? However, the mix seafood food entree and it was very well prepared. the sauce was superb with the homemade linguine. Have been to Pate's countless times over many years; this year has been a MAJOR disappointment. The food is marginal at best, the drinks are too expensive, and the staff is not attentive. There were three of us, and we sat at the bar. The bill was $227.00 without the tip. I have no problem paying that much for dinner when the food is good and the service exceptional, but neither was the case this time. Since we spend about 10 weeks in Chatham each summer and make regular visits in the off-season, we typically eat at Pate's 2-3 times per week. Based on our recent visit, we will not be returning-very sad. One immediate change they could make would be to bring Jamie, the bartender, back, who could be a game-changer for Pate's read more

My family and I came here for dinner, we made reservations on a Monday night at 6pm. Cute restaurant, they have a bar you can sit at as well. Our waitress Julie was really sweet and great. For entree, I did the Cod which was so delicious and well portioned. I ate every last bite. Definitely on the pricier side but good place to get a little dressed up to do something nice for a change. read more

I have been a summer Chatham resident a long time. Only went to the former Pate's a few times. Trapped in the mid 20th century. Friends last summer said go; it is vibrant and changed. I went solo the other night to see. Wow! Such a pretty place now. Great modern bar. I was hungry for oysters, so did not sample the true chef cooking. Yuck!! Stuffy environment and food was nasty! I came here years ago and had the Fettucine Pan Roast. Reordered it because it was delicious years ago but that wasn't the case. Took well over an hour to get it. The waitress sent it back before we even saw it because the chef made it incorrectly I guess with peas. Then we finally got it- it was luke warm, soupy, and THE LOBSTER CLAW WAS EMPTY!!! I tried one bite and immediately sent it back- horrible flavor. Update since owners response: the timing is actually very incorrect that you posted, as the reservation was not under my name and it was under my husbands. The start time was July 25th at 6:45. We've been coming to Pates for years (and were so happy when Anthony Silvestri took it over). We always enjoy our meals here. The service and food are consistently good. Went to Pates last night and I excitedly ordered my favorite part of the dinner, dessert!! I have been ordering the snowball since I was a little kid . What came out of the kitchen was no snowball . I expected a giant snowball of vanilla ice cream covered in white snowy coconut sitting in a pool Of hot creamy chocolate sauce . Another delicious meal here! I started out with my usual chop salad with cilantro vinaigrette which was amazing! For entrées we ordered the gnocchi in Brown butter and the mushroom flatbread with truffle oil. They were both amazing! The pizza was so cheesy and delicious with a savory truffle oil glaze. The gnocchi was light and buttery with a delicious crispy sage accompaniment. For dessert we got the pear crumble which was ooey gooey and delicious. Our waiter was terrific and very attentive. Went to Pates for the first time on Thanksgiving afternoon and was thoroughly impressed with the food, comfortable, friendly atmosphere and perfect service. This visit I ordered the same dish and talked my wife to get the same thing. Must of been a different chef.. Not good.. No consistency.. This visit, It was going to be an added bonus. Saw the offer on facebook a few weeks ago regarding: free dessert with 2 entrees. Talked the original bartender during our 1st drink order and ordering our 2 entrees. He said; you get a desert tonight!! He got pulled into making drinks for the dining area and when we got done another bartender came over and asked if we want anything else?? We said we would like the dessert that comes with 2 entrees.. her response was I need to check! When she returned she came with our bill and said:: thanks for coming in!! After witnessing what was or not going on behind the bar.. All the confusion on how to make drinks! What's the difference between certain whiskey's.. So disappointed in the changes to the menu over the years. The flatbreads are gone, and one of my very favorite dishes in town - their Surf & Turf (Lobster Ravioli with Steak) is no longer offered either!! It used to be TO DIE FOR, I started making it myself at home, and I'm glad I did, because it doesn't look like that is coming back for some reason. This was our third visit to Pates and might be our last. I recently ordered the pan seared scallop special. I realize scallops have been expensive lately. However, receiving only 3 scallops and an incredibly small amount of risotto was more than disappointing at $54. It was more of appetizer than a "large plate" portion. Really Pates?? Pate's in Chatham is always good. The bread basket was served with white bean puree and it was all very good. We enjoyed beet carpaccio salad, iceberg wedge salad, salmon with miso & garlic, raw tuna 'cones' with wasabi cream, and Korean fried broccoli. The desserts were creme brûlée and banana cream in a jar with toasted coconut. Everything was very good. We dined at the bar where the atmosphere was festive. The bar was full, 29 seats, and there were 3 bartenders and 1 bar back. Service was slow and inattentive. The bar staff all seemed nice but not focused on customer service or details. Pate's has really gotten exponentially better since Chef Anthony Silvestri took over and made it his own. The food was fantastic tonight, complimented by a warm and welcoming staff and relaxed but refined atmosphere. My sister and I took our dad and mom here for an early father's day on the Cape. We shared the blood orange salad from the specials menu and the chopped romaine salad to start- the two salads were plenty for the four of us and well complimented by the bread rolls, seeded crackers and white bean dip that Chef Silvestri brought with him from the ocean house. For my entree, I had the Bucatini Pasta- $26 with Peas/Spinach/Asparagus/Sweet Onions/Mascarpone/Parmesan- man it was so delicious! Everyone had a bite and agreed it was just perfectly made with perfectly picked peas and spinach and asparagus. There were no leftovers and I will certainly order again. My dad ordered the Shrimp Scampi -$28 Linguini/Roasted Tomatoes/Garlic/Basil/White Wine and equally cleaned his plate. The pastas are REALLY good at Pate's y'all- you have to come try for yourself. My sister and mom shared the Seafood Pan Roast $40 Fettuccini/Lobster/Shrimp/Scallops/ Basil-Black Pepper Cream Sauce It was more than enough for two people - they even brought leftovers home! Very cool bar area. Stopped by for drinks. I tried the Empress with Empress gin (which is purple!), St. Germain, lemon, and basil. And my husband got the Chat Char with Hendrick's gin, chartreuse, basil, mint, cucumber and lemon- both excellent! The food looked amazing, too. The gal to the right of us had the lobster tostadas which she said were delicious. My husband remembers going here 40 years ago when it was more like a NY steakhouse but seems that they had a major renovation in the last couple of years. Now has very beachy and coastal vibe. I lurv it!!! I had the jumbo lump crab app, calamari and fall salad. Beloved had the roast chicken entree, duck tacos and flourless choco' cake. All of it sublime. I especially loved my salad and his chicken. The duck tacos are a tish on the smoky side, FYI. The lump crab was divine. And they have a good house made sour mix for the whiskey sours. Was visiting the cape and picked Pates because of the great Yelp reviews and it did not disappoint. I highly recommend dinner at this restaurant. From the bread bowl which came with soft rolls and homemade seasoned crackers, served with a white bean spread (I call it hummus) that was so delicious you won't even touch the butter. The clam chowder was silky and packed with clams and potatoes and was a burst of flavor in each spoonful. The swordfish and chicken main courses were both outstanding with unique flavors and to finish off the coconut banana cream pie in a jar was huge (enough for more than 2) was lite and packed with banana slices, gram crackers, coconut, and topped with Carmel. Third visit while (2021, 2022, 2023) visiting Cape Cod friends. Food, drinks and atmosphere are consistently good and have not changed over 3 years. The seafood pasta was delicious and very flavorful. The greek salad was enough to split for 2. Rebecca gave us excellent service. Bread basket was varied and tasty and there was no extra charge but I would have preferred hot sourdough. As a plus, the break came with a small bowl of hummus. We had such a great dinner here while on vacation in Chatham! The restaurant is apparently recently under new management. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is really nicely decorated! It has a cool, modern feel. Our server was super sweet! It was only her second week serving and she did an excellent job. We were given a bread basket right away. The homemade crackers were amazing! They had an everything seasoning on them and were super addicting. I started with one of their cocktails that was a special that night. It was a watermelon martini. It was strong, but I didn't like the flavor. It was very artificial. I switched to wine for my second round and was wishing I had started with wine to begin with. Unfortunately, the appetizer we had was also a miss. We went with the tuna cones because they sounded really different and we love tuna tar tar. The tuna was amazing, but the wasabi creme fraiche on top was a super weird taste... almost sweet? It was in a waffle cone with was bizarre. It tasted like a strange dessert! We ended up just scooping the tuna out and just eating that. Definitely would skip this next time. However, our entrees were incredible. We decided to share the lobster and sweet corn pizza and the seafood pasta. Both were out of this world! The pizza was super unique! Loved the addition of the lobster. The pasta was in a black pepper cream sauce and had scallops, shrimp, and lobster on top. There was a ton of seafood, which was great! There were four of us who had mixed reviews of our meals. All of us agreed that our dishes were too salty. I could not even taste my meal (Swordfish) beyond the salt. My friends Lobster Pesatotore dish was the best she ever had. The dishes were all presented well. All three fish dishes were cooked to a perfect temperature as was the Porchetta dish. I absolutely loved this place. The tostadas were an incredible starter. The tostados shells were packed with food, flavor was good, as were textures. The chopped romaine was very solid. Dressing wasn't overwhelming, fresh Parmesan cheese was great. Now, the cod. SO GOOD. I'm not a fish fan but the fish was flaky and freak, the potato chip crust super crunchy, and the homemade tartar sauce was divine. The crab cake was excellent as well. I'm from Maryland, so I'm a crab snob, and this crab cake would hold up in the Old Line State. Tons of crab meat, good flavor, nice crust on the exterior. We had a 7 pm dinner at Pates (large group of 9) and had chosen it because one of us had an excellent dinner there last summer (2024). The service was outstanding and fast. But most of our food was mediocre and salty. Signature scallops were small, overcooked and the succotash was just a mix of too soft vegetables. Other plates had purées that were missing, filets cooked to the wrong temperature, very salty sauces. Most of the dishes were not really as described on the menu - which tries to be Asian fusion but only for a few dishes. The rosemary brined game hen had no rosemary flavor, the asparagus in the filet dishes was left off and the potatoes and sauce we just all salt with no other contrasting flavors. Specialty drinks were also sort of "off" - gin gimlet that tasted like old limes were used, and the "rum for your life" didn't taste like rum. The white bean purée served with the bread lacked flavor (and ironically, salt) and also seems to be an odd thing to serve with classic dinner rolls. One highlight was the artichoke small plate (although the dish has shrunk by 1/2 since last summer). All in all we were disappointed to pay such high prices for very mediocre food. read more

My wife and I decided to give Pates another visit to see what progress if any has been made. Though our waiter was still over booked he really hustled to make our experience pleasurable. As usual the food is always good so we give the restaurant a 4 minimum for food. The atmosphere is consistent, never uncomfortable and though a bit loud not anything unreasonable. The service as we mentioned was pretty good seeing our waiter had a table of 6, 2 tables of 4 and two tables of 2. He is a familiar face that seems to be getting his arms around the process and providing a fairly good experience. So in short, this is off season at the Cape and Pates was still busy which is a testament to the food. If Pates can keep the service consistent at a minimum it is well worth the visit and could easily become a staple of ours, just need to be consistent. read more

My spouse and I had a very different experience. I enjoyed the swordfish special. He did not enjoy his surf & turf and gnocchi appetizer , complained of frozen ravioli & frozen gnocchi and that it was too saucy. The Server was very friendly and took good care of us. The restaurant had been completely revamped since we were last in and we were seated in the dining room away from the atmospheric bar area. A solid four-stars. Lazar, our waiter, was fabulous. Attentive but not over-bearing; informative but not dismissive; really added to the experience. We were a table of four. I had the Peking Duck Tacos (not Peking Duck-like but OK) and the Everything seasoned Tuna (rare) with black rice which was very good. Lazar even thought to offer me chopsticks to enjoy the meal. Wife had the Caesar Salad and Seafood Pan Roast. The Caesar was a little bitter but she absolutely loved the Seafood Pan Roast and brought enough home for us to share for lunch the following day. Our fellow diners had the Gnocchi app which they shared with us - it was very good and super creamy - and the Dumplings which she really enjoyed. For entrees, one had the tuna and the other the Cod. Drinks were well-made and delivered promptly. Wine selection was more than adequate. Most seating is in an aisle leading somewhere - only a few tables are out of the "way". Bar is large and lively but not frenetic. I think we'll try bar seats the next time. Reserve a table or arrive early - the place gets busy. read more

Had an early reservation in the area adjacent next to the bar and our servers were relatively friendly to my elderly folks, who took a long time to get through the meal.
