When we ended up back at the estate we were very pleasantly surprised. The unpaved trail was just okay, but the grounds surrounding the estate are so lovely. Little paths everywhere, sweet garden areas, a large green yard, and beautiful trees. Looked like there was a lot more to see next visit. Really a fantastic estate. Seems like a fabulous place for an event and definitely an enjoyable spot to wander on a lazy afternoon.

My organization has used Hidden Creek for several years now, and when we started working with them,…read morethey were adjustable and easy to work with. However, we had our annual event this year at Hidden Creek and the experience was extremely frustrating and unacceptable. First of all, they're very strict about anyone even entering the building before the time designated as the starting time. I don't expect them to open the doors of the banquet hall before the starting period that we paid for, but they wouldn't even let us in the building. They would not let us bring any of our materials into the building, and they told us we were not allowed to even unload our materials outside of the door so that once the door to the building opened, things would be unpacked and ready to set up. I was told it was a safety matter, but the materials we unpacked were not in front of the door, but well to the side of the entrance. They enforce those rules very strictly and in a manner that is not particularly friendly. Earlier this year, we held a different event at Hidden Creek, in other words different than the annual event I'm writing about, and they wouldn't even let us look into the room we had rented until the time began that we had paid for. They said that the room was down a hall we hadn't paid to enter, so we were not allowed to look in the room. The facility itself is beautiful, light, spacious, and well appointed. But that does not make up for their overly stringent regulations. For example, in the event I planned, we had to add some speakers to our program, so I asked if I could extend our time by half an hour so we could clean up in time. But they would not allow us to add time, even though I had made that request well before the day of the event. It was not a last-minute request, and, as indicated, I was aware there would an extra charge for an extra half-hour. So I thought we'll just clean up faster (which we did). But unfortunately, our caterers, who were P.F. Chang's, were very late in setting up the lunch, in fact, 45 minutes late, so we had to start our program late. But even with all of that, we worked very fast and managed to finish the cleanup by just half an hour after the time had expired for us to be there. They had no other event after us, and so we did not inconvenience them. Further, there is no indication on the papers that I signed before the event that there was a late fee if we exceeded the time we were in the room. All the paperwork says is that there's a $250 damage fee. But there was no damage to the hall. I'm not arguing that there should have been no fee for leaving the venue late, I just feel that when the total price for each hour is $150, and we reserved the hall for five hours, that it is exorbitant to charge $250. I requested a reduced fee, especially because our lateness was due to our caterer being so late, which PF Chang's recognized and compensated us for, but I got a solid No. They said the contract stipulates a late fee, but as indicated above, that is not true, it stipulates a damage fee. The director of events at Hidden Creek is lovely to work with. She has always done everything possible to make our experience a good one. And I do not hold her responsible for the stringency of the regulations. I am merely saying that the whole issue of charging so much money for being there 30 minutes extra to clean up, especially when the reason our event went late is because our cater was late, is unconscionable. I recommend selecting a different venue for your event unless you want to jump through numerous hoops only to be dissappointed, frustrated and overcharged in the end.

I really wanted to like this place. It's unfortunate that the selection is so limited and with most large wineries, even small ones owned by larger entities i just can't bring myself to put my money to a poor cause (I.e. donations to the GOP party). This shop needs to take a hard look at what they are selling and have a consistent message, not just what's right at the moment for the owner. I know for sure they sell wines that are made by those who back that awful being in the White House. Won't stand for it and neither should you. read more

This local wine shop has the most amazing vibe! I have come in as a customer buying wine for years and Erin, the owner and staff have always been super helpful by suggesting wines I might like - In my price range. Last Saturday night my husband and I met 4 friends here and not only was it happy hour..any wine $5/glass, but there was live music! Their normal price is $8 to taste 5 things (fully comped with the passport), so the passport is a particularly good deal here. However, it was another of the annoying ones where I really wanted to taste more than 5 things, as they had a decent selection that all looked interesting. I started off with two of their aquavits - the aged version of their traditional one, which I thought was good but not amazing, and a more uniquely Portland-y one, "ole bjorkevoll", which was absolutely the best aquavit I've had, just ridiculously smooth and ridiculously flavorful (really wish I could've tried the aged version of that second one, but they were temporarily out, unfortunately). I then tried two of their pepper vodkas - a habanero vodka that only had the slightest hint of pepper, more sweet than anything (I got hints of honey and vanilla), and a hotter one that did mostly taste like vodka and hot pepper, but wasn't overpoweringly hot. I thought both of these were, likewise, good but not amazing. Finally, I tried their coffee vodka, which was absolutely fantastic - really tasted properly like drinking 80-proof coffee. Gorgeously smooth, without the sweetness - just this and a cream liqueur with an ice cube, would make a simple but fantastic "cocktail". One of the best coffee spirits I've had, and I've had some pretty good ones. I also had to try one of the mini-cocktails here, because I couldn't possibly imagine aquavit and ginger beer being that great together, but they promised it was, and their aquavit was so good. Turns out yeah, it's pretty fantastic. The place was pretty small, so if you came at a busier time, it'd probably be unpleasantly cramped. It's a bit hidden, though, so I don't know how frequently it gets that busy - I was there on a Saturday late afternoon, and it was fairly quiet, kinda relaxing, really. Got to chat with the owner a bit, too, so that was neat. Note to self: if I'm ever back in Portland, this is one of the ones I have to come back to, so I can try the rest of the stuff I couldn't try this time.

There were 2 other parties there while we were there so it's possible that it was difficult for 1 bartender to manage and engage 3 different tastings. Overall, good spirits and worth stopping in! It can be a little difficult to find, but look for the signs to follow the hallway to the tasting room.

We were told that the indoor tables were reserved, and instead we were offered blankets. Although we appreciated the gesture, it wasn't a comfortable solution given the weather. We had booked the 2:00 p.m. reservation (the online booking only offered 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. time slots), but by 3:00 p.m. our tasting had to be wrapped up. If reservations are limited to one hour, that should be made much clearer during the booking process. To make matters worse, the wine we were most looking forward to tasting was never served. It was only after we asked about it that we were told it had sold out. This is something that should have been communicated before the tasting began, not after we noticed it was missing. We came a long way hoping to share a special winery experience with my parents, but poor communication and the way the experience was managed made the visit far less enjoyable than we had expected. I hope the winery improves its communication and reservation process so future guests have a better experience.

The shop is run by the owners of Square Deal of NW which has closed and remade itself into something entirely different. The wine merchant shop alone is impressive. Great wines at reasonable prices and a wine club to boot. I tasted a lovely Tempranillo which I just had to buy. Set me back a whopping $12.00! Most of the wines in the shop are in that range and they are GOOD!. But wait - that's not all.... they have coupled this place with something called KitchenCru. A completely high end commercial kitchen. Huge! All modern appliances, commercial grade. AS Dan gave us a tour around the facillities little snacks and goodies for us to taste were offered. Yummy stuff. And again - that's not all. They have also created several function rooms. So the opportunities here are endless. I've had obscure French reds, clean, crisp Rieslings, vibrant Chianti, and so much more recommended here, and enjoyed every pick. They have great wine clubs offering even better pricing on adventurous or collectible bottles and always seem to have some special half case on sale. For me though, what really makes them shine is the selection and excellent recommendations. Whenever I need a quick bottle or 3 and need guidance, this is my go to wine merchant.

We were immediately greeted by their friendly staff. Despite being busy, they accommodated us in their main tasting room. They were quick to pour and tell us all about their wines and blends. Boy do they know their wines! We had a lovely time and conversed with many of the staff our first visit. It just felt like family. Not typically my MO, but we actually signed up for their membership our first visit! We thoroughly enjoy our quarterly wines... so much so, I'm drinking a glass as I type this review! A benefit of membership is getting to visit on a regular basis for tastings. We love to bring friends and guests who have all enjoyed it thoroughly. When you go, make sure to get a charcuterie platter, it is DELIGHTFUL!!! Looking forward to visit again, it's worth your 45 minute drive from Portland!

Stopped in today to see - did I have a membership? I know I used a card that's tied to an old email - so really truly unsure. Figured it would be a no or a pickup. Instead; when I wanted to try a wine to see if it was worth drinking, I got the third degree. I dared to ask for a wine on the wall behind the counter - apparently those aren't wines that they have but a display of old ones. LOL: So I ascertained from the experience that I won't likely want to come back so I requested cancellation. No hard feelings - nothing bad - just not my deals Then was asked why - well, I'm from California wine country and I don't want to continue to he a member at a winery with wine I don't enjoy and a vibe I don't like. Kudos to the other worker who got the hint and helped me to checkout. This place is lovely and clearly has a strong following so much love to local businesses like this. I just would have loved a little kindness (reminder this was an issue with one of the workers and not the other - she was a delight!!)

This year however we've made it more of a priority. This one is right close to our home (about 15 minutes away). One of my all time favorite wines is the Toasted Cow White Blend from Oak Knoll. Sweet but not too sweet and light and refreshing, perfect for a Summer's day. Highly recommend.
