I have hosted many business social events at the Wine Loft over the past 8+ years. The service, food, event coordination, and the way the staff goes the extra mile is unparalleled in my experience. I have also met friends for drinks, been to Wednesday Wine Tasting a number of times, and come by myself to enjoy a nice cool jazzy environment and unwind. I always feel welcome and taken care of. We were expecting a typical restaurant, but the Wine Loft is not typical. The seating is comfy couches with over sized coffee tables and the food was not entrees, but small plate/tapas offerings. We enjoyed it so much the first time, that we came back a few weeks later with friends. The only downside is that you shouldn't bother getting the lamb lollipops, as it took quite a long time and finally we were told that the lamb was almost thawed...hmm....so much for the best sounding and the least ordered item on the menu. On the other hand, we enjoyed the Bruschetta, Shrimp and Grits, Flammkuchen, Pistolettes, and Tiramisu. Our server (Jessie) helped us decide on what wines to enjoy. I was very impressed with The Wine Loft. We did a women empowerment event with speaker and had a very unique request to scatter the tastings throughout the speaker's sessions (one as guests arrived, one prior to starting the speaker, and 2 during breaks/conversation sessions and finally one at the end of the speaker). Although they had not done this before, they were very accommodating and did a great job timing the food delivery so it was hot and fresh. I'm not a wine drinker. So why would I go here, you may ask? I was invited to a co-worker's 30th birthday party here. I was very impressed with the ambience. It's upscale with feeling too bougie, and the prices are reasonable. She had a section of the loft in the back, simply divided by curtains, which did the trick. The other part of the area was open to the public. No one disturbed her party and the array of appetizers were delicious. The 2nd time I visited was with a natural hair group meetup so I saw it was a great place for a laid-back meeting. The 3rd time, my sweetie and I used a discount from either groupon or LivingSocial and ordered food from the menu. We enjoyed our pizza and sat and talked for hours until they got ready to close. He enjoyed the intimate atmosphere. All-in-all, the ambience is what really keeps me coming back. I couldn't care less about the wine. We need more places like this in the city. read more

I was very impressed by Wine Loft the first time I visited. I was with a group of girlfriends and we randomly dropped by on a weekend. Although we were unsure of how busy this place would be, we were seated almost immediately in a corner with tea lights and ordered a few bottles of wine and chocolate fondue. The service has always been great every time I have gone. I will say that the wine list is pretty impressive. Because of the ambiance I have had a hard time reading the menu, but good thing most of our smart phones have flashlights. Although i would prefer an environment where the waitress asks your preference for wines and then helps you pick a bottle, sometimes it's fun to experiment. I haven't eaten any of the other food at wine loft however I will say that the chocolate fondue is fantastic. The last few times I have gotten it we have had lots of chocolate left over. I would recommend more pound cake or fruit with the pot of fondue just so the chocolate does not go to waste. Beautiful decor and atmosphere though! read more

I think the Wine Loft is good, but not great. The wine list is amazing (takes up about 6 pages on the menu) but food was pretty ordinary. For the prices of such small portions I won't be back to eat, but for a glass of wine or a large party, sure. It is a huge restaurant and to me it did not feel cozy and intimate at all. More like dark and bleak...I can see it working out very well for a work party or wedding reception. read more

First of all this is not the correct address! This Wine Loft is at 2200 1st Avenue North and it is definitely worth the trip. Lots of ambiance, comfortable couches and great food. The crab cakes and shrimp and grits were fabulous! Staff were friendly and attentive with a free wine tasting. We had the house merlot with dinner and it was excellent! The good: The wine was good - affordably priced, lots of selections, no issues there. The atmosphere was relaxing - lounge-like, beautiful, high ceiling, old building/bones with brick walls and old windows, loved the lighting and decorating. Service was on the slow end, but there was also two parties going on while we were there. The brie appetizer is delicious, I'd definitely get that again - big enough to share. The bad: The flatbreads are TINY. Don't try to share them unless you want as much food as going to tapas. My friends said the flavor was ok, but the size of the flatbread for the price ($11) was a disappointment. As mentioned before, the atmosphere is relaxing, however if you have a soft voice, bad hearing, or aren't the best at reading lips...this is not the place for you. With only curtains separating tables and having such an open environment, it's near difficult to hear conversation without yelling. That was a bit exhausting. The ugly: Do not order the pizza. Yes, it's nicely priced (~$8-11) and the size of the pizza is probably triple that of the flatbread, but the taste...horrible. Don't waste your money. I gave my leftover pizza to a homeless man outside because I didn't even want to eat it again (but I'm a broke college student so I felt forced to take home what I wasted money on). Conclusion: Nice spot to relax and have a glass of wine, comfortable environment, brie appetizer is yummy. Skip the flatbread if you're hungry and pretend like the pizzas aren't even an option because you'll be disappointed. Also, bring a hearing aid. read more

I have been frequenting going to the wine loft for years. I like how intimate the setting is and the fact that it's never too noisy. The wine selection is great and I love the cheese plate!! The pizza and lamb lollipops were also delicious. The servers are always friendly, helpful in wine selection and attentive! I had been holding on to a gift card to the Wine Loft from my birthday last year when I finally decided to give a try last week. I met a friend around seven for dinner and a glass of wine. Parking was surprisingly easy but I suppose it's location at the end of 1st Ave helps with that. I surprised to see how nice and intimate the place was. Even though there was an event going on, we were still allowed inside and were seated quickly. Taking in the whole scene, I noticed that it consisted of a large bar with plenty of seating along with some high tops in the middle of the room and intimate couch seating by the window. This would be such a lovely place to take your lover or start the night off with friends. It would also be lovely to come in after work and grab a drink and unwind a bit before fighting the traffic on your route home. Our waitress was lovely and very patient with us. She was more than happy to help us decide what wine to try and brought me two great samples that were perfectly on pare with what I wanted. We both had a glass of wine each and some food. I decided to try the Flammkuchen and my friend ordered the Filet Mignon Pistolettes. The Flammkuchen was essentially a flatbread pizza that used crème fraiche as the "pizza sauce" and had gruyere, onions, banana peppers, bacon bits & caraway seeds as the topping. The Filet Mignon Pistolettes were little sandwiches on house-made rolls topped with blue cheese and a cognac marinated sweet onion jam and served with chips. Both were SO DELICIOUS. The pizza was huge and I only ended up finishing half of it but it had such a great balance of crunch, creamy, sweet, tangy goodness. The sandwiches were delicious as well. The filet was cooked well, not tough at all and was great with the soft homemade roll and sweet jam. The waitress checked in on us frequently and kept our water glasses full and even boxed up my leftovers for me. I had such a great experience here and it really kicked off my night on a high note. I'll be back very soon and would recommend this place to anyone! read more

Absolutely love this place! Went while Visiting Bham for the first time before moving here. We weren't sure if anything like this existed here but we were pleasantly surprised by the wine loft. Huge, chic place but still intimate and romantic. There was a lively engagement party going on the night we went but we were seated on a comfy couch right away. Very nice, attentive server and the wine list was of course to our liking. Didn't try any of the food since it was a pre dinner drink but the menu looked extensive and very interesting. The couch next to us was sampling some chocolate dipped strawberries and pound cake...very appropriate for valentine's day. There were also a few tables of groups having a great time, so it's not only for the romantic couple. The music selection was spot-on for the atmosphere, and we thought the valet parking was a nice touch. I think this place will definitely be one of our favorites in Birmingham! read more
