I was super excited for a health food smoothie bar to open in Georgetown! I mean, that's awesome. Just what we needed!! When I heard about the Wooden Straw and saw all my friends checking in on Facebook, talking about how wonderful this place was, I had high hopes. Well. I walked in and noticed immediately that everything is Herbalife. Here's the thing, as someone that has tried a variety of different health food shakes on the marketing and is actively reading labels & trying to eat healthy (mostly Paleo), I know that Herbalife is NOT one of the best ones out there. A quick look at the ingredients of the Formula 1 product (that they use for their shakes, I believe) shows a very little amount of actual nutrition or/and protein. Meh. There are also Herballife products all over the place. SO. With that in mind, I decided to push aside my bias and try a shake anyway. I mean, it has to be healthier than a Big Mac, right? (It is. I'm not arguing that.) For $6.50, you get three things: a shot of aloe, a cup of tea, and a shake! You have the option of the aloe being put in the tea, which is what I always do when I come here (yes, I've been here several times now). I usually opt for the Chai tea, but there is also green tea, raspberry tea, and another flavor available. The raspberry is good, too! I always get iced tea. I think hot tea is an option, but not entirely sure. Now. The shakes. Oh, my goodness, the chalkboard wall just has wayyyy too many options! I didn't know what to get! There are mutiple different flavor formulas that can create even more flavored shakes! Some of these include vanilla, chocolate, cafe latte, dulce de leche, pina colada, orange, just to name a few. From these, you can have chocolate cake, coconut crush, and so forth. The list goes on and on. After deliberating over what I felt like 'eating', I decided upon a lemon cake shake. They poured the powder in the water, added stuff, blended, and voila! Had a yummy-looking shake ready for me, nearly overflowing the clear, plastic cup. It tasted.... OK. Like a lemon cake. Ice cream. With lots of sugar. And some weird product after taste. Did not wow me. (Because of this, I gave them another try another day and tried a different drink which was a little bit better.) I have tried three different drinks from The Wooden Straw and am still not blown away An another note --- the people who work there are very friendly and happy to see you. There is no issue with service whatsoever. There is always music playing, and I believe, WiFi available. There's a bar you can sit at to enjoy your drinks or a soft couch (near a little kid's play area) to sit and relax. I like what they did with the feel of the place. Do I absolutely love Wooden Straw? Nope. I don't really like the Herballife products. But will I be back? Yes. Sometimes. Because..... these shakes may not be the healthiest, but they're definitely better than a Big Mac. I came in last week for a fruity pebbles shake for breakfast and I don't know what happened but it didn't taste good AT ALL. Plus they were out of tea and aloe and still charged me the same price. I gave them 4 stars simply because every other experience rather than the last one has been great. read more

I have to say that I am starting to love this place. This is a protein/meal replacement bar. Yes a bar. You sit there when you come in and get a nice sugar free tea then you get to pick what type of shake you want from over a hundred recipes. So we all know what those diet shakes taste like from years ago. Well sit down, the owners have spices and additives that transforms the bland shake into something bold and great tasting that is actually heathy. Replace a meal for a change. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! While starting my diet I was told to try the wooden straw. This is a business that makes smoothies that can replace meals but still give you nutritional value. I got a chocolate covered strawberries smoothie with protein powder and it was delicious! I love chocolate covered fruit but not protein powder. However, the powder was barely noticeable and didn't taste of chalk like I have found it usually does. The staff is super friendly and as a new customer, they take you through a three step process starting with a shot of aloe water, (very good and smooth), then a tea...recommend a chai, and finally a smoothie. with this being the only smoothie place in Georgetown, I had no choice but to give it a try. I was not at all disappointed! From the very second we walked in the door, the guy and girl working were friendly and informative. They gave us a shot of aloe and a cup of tea and they made our shakes. The shake i got was a caramel pumpkin cheesecake and my friend got a german chocolate shake, and they taste amazing! The shakes are meal replacements, and the portion is definitely big enough to fill you up! The only little downfall i had was how long it took to pay. We had our shakes for a good 10-15 minutes before we were able to pay. there were quite a few people waiting on shakes to be made, so i completely understand that they were busy, and on most days the wait wouldn't bother me at all. But since we were at work and was trying to grab a quick and healthy lunch and head back to the office, it just wasn't ideal to wait so long. Hopefully the next time we go on our lunch break will be a little quicker since we are now a little more familiar with the way things work there! You guys. I'm totally fan-boying over Herbalife shakes. I love that we have a healthy option to milkshakes. I'm seriously addicted to these. TWS is an absolute treasure to Georgetown. Both locations are great with amazing employees and a great variety on the menu. Are you feeling fruity? Go for the Coconut Crush or Tropical Fruit. Craving Nut Butter? Captain Crunch PB berry is seriously heaven in a cup. Chocolate? You bet! Grab a brownie batter. I haven't disliked a single flavor I have tried. It's been a lot of flavors! These shakes keep me full for hours and I love that they give you the entire blender full in a large cup. Highly recommend this place! read more

In the middle of the Covid Pandemic the staff were not wearing masks when I came in or when they made/served my shake. I was also disappointed with the MLM aspect. For $8 the shake was OK. It did not blow me away and I was incredibly turned off when the staff kept bringing up weight loss and how the shakes assisted. Overall a disappointing experience. read more

First of all there are so many protein smoothie options! I love the variety of choices, I did wish they broke down what each flavor had a mixture of instead of having to ask what combinations are in each one. My first experience with the owners were amazing! I loved the strawberry shortcake flavor and my husband enjoyed the banana cream pie flavor. They start you off with an aloe shot and then give you an herbal tea and then your shake. A cute trio all for one price. I do also wish they had calorie specific for each smoothie/shake because I'm sure the "one size fits all" caloric information that is displayed isn't very accurate. Wonderful staff wonderful atmosphere. The staff really care about you having a freest experience here. Plenty of shakes to choose from that you can customize to your liking at an affordable price. These shakes are 200-250 calories and super healthy but you could almost share them and still have it as your meal! They give you complimentary tea and aloe shots. I can't say enough wonderful things about them! I will be back multiple times a week for my meal replacement shakes that taste like I should be guilty but at 100%guilt free. read more

The atmosphere is casual but I wasn't a big fan of the shake. They use Herbalife which I'm familiar with body by vi and beachbody and it's similar to that. The price wasn't bad and nor was the shake size, I just wasn't a big fan. read more

This place is amazing! So many choices on the wall, and they have a book with lots more. A healthy alternative when the kids want ice cream or after a soccer game.
