A large group of us attended an event called Firebird Days in Pontiac. One of the events was a group lunch at Mario's on a Sunday afternoon. This place doesn't normally open until 4:00 on Sunday's, but for our group (200 people came to the event; not all went to the luncheon) they opened just to serve us. They were friendly, keep the salads, drinks, and pizzas flowing, and all for a reasonable price. Usually, when I attend a pizza buffet, they put out the cheap stuff - pizzas very light on cheese and toppings. Not so for our event, the pizzas were fresh, hot, generously topped...and delicious! The owner even came out and told us a little about the history of the place with his grandparents and the original Route 66 passing by the storefront. My hats off to the owners and staff!

After a significant amount of time the waitress returned to check on us and let us know the pizzas would be out soon, so we asked her about the appetizer. She admitted that she forgot to put it in. She asked if we still wanted it, which we did, and so she said it would be 8 minutes in the oven. The food all came out within the next 10 minutes or so (minus the appetizer), and we dove in. It was all very good and we were happy with the options we chose. The waitress returned once we were finished eating and we asked for boxes and the check. The appetizer still hadn't came out. She apologized again and asked if we just wanted it boxed up to go, to which we said yes. Several minutes later a manager showed up and told us again, that there was a miscommunication and the appetizer was never made and yet to be placed in the oven. At this point, we asked it to be canceled and just asked for boxes and the check. Things happen, and the way they responded to the mistake is the reason I am still giving them 4 stars. They reduced our bill significantly and offered us a coupon for a free pizza on the next visit as a way to make things right. The waitress was great and the manager was very professional.
