The Works has been open as long as I can remember! It was always a hot spot for my family, one uncle in particular makes it a point to stop here with his family when in town from South Carolina. I used to walk here many times a week after school when I went to Springman Jr High! When I was in junior high and came all the time with my friends, the workers all knew us and we all knew them. I also came here many a times throughout the years for their yummyness! I'm sad to admit I've never tried their Gyros----ever! Blasphemy I know, but everyone who tries them falls in love. I would always go for a hot dog, cheese fries and pop. Their hot dogs are sooooo good! I might even think they are the best in Chicagoland! We've been going to this place for 30 years. We all loved the gyros and especially the sauce. We've tried the gyros several times in the past month and have to say it's horrible. The sauce yesterday tasted spoiled or just plain badly made. The pita is not the same and was pale and tasteless and the meat was bland. Used to come here since the 90's. I came from out of town to find out ownership changed. After ordering the 1lbs of gyro I have to say not the quality I was used to. Also, new owners not friendly just felt as if the experience was just a transaction. I used to like coming here and even though the place was old it offered great food, customer service, and good prices. For a long time, what prevented me from going more often was that they only took cash but a recent purchase had me discover that they take credit now! Hooray! Mostly, we do carry out but sometimes we sit down and the service is friendly each time. For instance, they offer kids a little ice cream from the Homer's Ice Cream side. Want to know my fave? You will wait 3-5 minutes for your food, as they cook most of it to order, even at lunchtime. Grilled onions are available as a topping. The register guy is a likeable comedian. It's dingy but not dirty. No "meal deals" but a sandwich, fries, and soda will run about $7-8. They also sell soup, Greek chicken, and Homer's ice cream. Been a regular of this place for many years; that's done after today. Went to get my food today, I am in the place waiting to pay, the cashier says to Andy, (the old man,) "Why does he (my name) come here so much?" To which, the old man replied, "maybe he'll get a job someday." I am not outside or at the far side of the restaurant, I am literally right in front of them. I was in a mask because of Covid so they didn't realize it was me. I guess I must rob banks for a living? Or be a counterfeiter? Maybe I murder little old ladies for a living? What the hell is it their business where I work?! I buy from them usually once or twice a day, they're mocking me for that?! That's not the first time, either. Like, one time I am leaving, the door out is nearly closed, and they all break out laughing and one of them says my name, so it was probably at me; or one of the employees asks me if the car I drive is mine or my dad's. I thought, maybe I shouldn't overreact, or I got the wrong idea, but no, at this point I have no other conclusion than they're just vile people. That's what that old man and his crew are behind their two-faced "stay young" routine. I honestly don't even have any idea what the hell their problem with me is. All these years I've been coming here, I come in, I pay for my meal, I usually leave a tip, I say "please" and "thank you" and I never gave them problems. I am not a troublemaker. What more do they WANT from a customer? Is my money is not green enough for them? Or am I not "cool" enough for them to sell a sandwich to? Yeah, their food is good, but as Jim Belushi said to the scumbag lawyer in the movie Curly Sue, "Won't eat this, won't take that." The gyros was flavorful and I love how the pita was warm and moist with slightly crisp edges. The tzatziki sauce was some of the best I had; not too bland or sharp. The sandwich just all came together in a "perfect blend." The owner and his staff were all very friendly and welcoming. They greeted me and spoke to me as if they've known me forever! We go out of our way to make sure we stop here every time we visit the area. I always get two italian beefs because even though I feel sick after that much food its worth it. This is where I goto for authentic Gyro. It's a fast casual dinning experience. The staff was friendly and service was speedy. The Gyro is crispy and juicy and is served with fresh tomatoes, onions, and homemade tzatzicki sauce. However, my favorite part is the pita bread. It's fluffy and seared for a crisp bite. Our "go to" for hotdogs n gyros cuz it's a couple blocks from home. Hit or miss sometimes on the Gyros. For the most part gyros are great. Once in a while it's really dry meat. Burgers are flame broiled but doesn't really hit the spot for me. How can you go wrong with a Chicago style hotdog with everything on it? Yum! I grew up with the works and I think it is about high time that I reviewed it. Ever since I moved out of town, whenever I visit my folks, I make it a point to go here. I always get a gyros and a side order of a hotdog with everything on it. I think my parents get mad at me because I inhale my meal whenever I go. I recommend eating here and have been every time I go. I have to say, I am kinda glad I moved because if i didn't, I probably would spend all my money herr. Here is my review: Food = 10/10 I have been to places where they only give you about 4 slices of the meat they use in the gyros. This place stuff the gyros with meat. if you look at the pictures they have for "are these photos helpful?" area, I think they should double the meat on those pictures and I think that is what a normal order is. also for the hotdog, you get that nice snap when biting into the dog. I think the food it great here and I really can't see it getting any better unless they give it away for free. note: I usually eat with my dad and he gets the Italian Beef, which he loves. he states that "it is not greasy like other Italian beefs he has tried". Price = 10/10 You definitely get what you pay for. The quality of the food and the amount is definitely worth the price. Service = 9/10 It's fast. you walk up, order in a line fashion, pay and sit down/wait for your food. This is a favorite lunch spot in our family. My husband has been coming here for years! The food is authentic, the ambiance is casual, you order at the counter and you bus your own table. The guys working are great, and they seem to love kids (my son was given a stuffed animal from the claw machine when he didn't win anything from the machine!) There for awhile I was looking for the best gyros near my house. It took awhile before I found it!. Well this place is about 20 minutes from me. The gyros does rival my best. There seems to be alot of repeaters coming here. I can see why. I would not say that the place is inexpensive, however the price is comparable with the quality you get. The front decor didn't leave me with a ton of expectations, but there are many hole in the wall places with great food, so I took a leap today. The 3-star review I am giving today is one not of "mediocrity" but rather "you've got runway to grow if you want to." Very good portions, larger than I expected even in a playe combo. The meat was very flavorful on my kabob plate, and I happily at that. However, the cucumber sauce was fairly bland, the pita is not homemade so it's flavorless, and the fries were just lifeless and disappointing in terms of taste. That's the shame of it. Really nice people with frankly some good protein. But the other 40% of the plate was disappointing, and you aren't coming here for the ambiance. Have courage to use more seasoning. I'd prefer to leave zero ratings but that's not an option. For years I enjoyed wonderful food at this place. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case today. I moved out of state last summer and I'm town this weekend and was super excited to eat at the Works. Oh my goodness - I should have read the reviews. Had no idea that the place was purchased and man oh man, what a terrible experience. I was so confused, the cashier was rude, the employees seemed miserable. But worst of all? The food. Completely gone downhill. Never had soggy fries, undercooked pizza puff, non-marinated raw chicken before at the Works and it was like half a small breast. The vinaigrette was very different and tasted like it's store bought. I remember the vinaigrette before being incredibly delicious!!! Needless to say, lots of shortcuts with the food, turning it into just junk. I hope you heed my warning and stay clear of this place if you've eaten here before the new ownership. Will more likely come back to test drive the burgers and other options. Staff here are really friendly and very fast, they work well together as a team. You can really find anything you want here and all the food that can surely satisfy your cravings. All of their food here is phenomenal and mind-blowing. Lots of people really love this place and keep visiting over and over. This place has so many great deals and offers. If you are here in this area of Glenview or maybe nearby. You must visit this place and give their food a try. You will never regret it. This place never disappoints. Their service and food really amazed and impressed all the customers. The Works is exceptional! The only problem I've seen the time I visited this place is their dining seats. This used to be a 5 star place under the old owners. The new people made it look nicer but the food went down hill like so many other recent reviews have said. It used to be my go to for gyros but not any more. I tried it for the second time in a month yesterday just to be sure and it will be my last visit. They said they're using the same suppliers but the gyros just don't taste the same. They give you less meat too. The staff isn't friendly anymore either. All around, a place to avoid. read more

Have been going to the works for 37 years right after we moved into the neighborhood. NO MORE !! The new owners are rude, they charge for extra sauce; use to charge extra if you pay by credit card ( too many complaints so they stopped that ). Since the owner died in 2021 and the son took over and sold it ( downhill all the way ) ! Not a friendly atmosphere; you get a cold feeling when you go there !! I didn't mind the price increases; but the quality isn't there any more and they give smaller portions too ( you 1/2 chicken dinner is soooo small.
