Stumbled upon this cafe on our daily walk in the neighbo neighborhood after visiting the wicker park farmers market. The inside is pretty similar to most of the local cafe I've visit but with a twist of vintage decor and cute paintings! The menu is simple yet unique with their seasonal options. I tried the miso caramel with black sesame latte- first sip was amazing as I've never had flavor as such. It's a little salted but a hint of sweetness. As I drank more, the sweetness increase and since I personally don't like coffee that's too sweet, I didn't finish the rest of the drink. So I'd Recommend stirring the drink so the flavor is more fair and balanced. read more

My boyfriend and I wanted to walk around wicker park and we ended up street parking right in front of this coffee shop. It was a freezing day, so it didn't take long for us to meander inside. We absolutely loved the aesthetic, with all of the old toys and posters plastered all over the place. The DeLorean was the piece de resistance In all its Glory atop a loft in the back. The coffee was sublime. We shared a "ghostly trio" latte, which was made perfectly and so unique in its flavors. It incorporated sesame, which I had never tasted in coffee before, and you could truly taste it in every sip. They even drew a cute ghost on the cup. Also I'm Glad they offered oat milk because my boyfriend is lactose intolerant and i didn't wanna get stuck on the receiving end of that after There's seating in the back as well, it's cozy and comfortable. A cute 90s retro coffee shop off Milwaukee Ave in the heart of Wicker Park. Lots of thoughtful touches and props scattered around makes me feel like a kid in an awesome 90s bedroom full of posters, lunch boxes, games, and toys! The space is a little noisy to be the ideal study space, but it makes for a great hangout spot for groups. The service is friendly, but detached. I got The Ghostly Trio. Couldn't really taste the miso or the black sesame, but maybe that's what the slight sourness was supposed to be. The workers always seem bothered understandable though with how busy it is. They seem annoyed when you politely ask if they have almond milk (which they don't) yet that have regular dairy... The place is always so crowded and they take too long to make the drinks. Their system with all the cups on the counter is confusing. You just see a bunch of people's drinks and don't know which one is yours unless they call out your name. It's really disorganized. They need a better system. Wormhole is easily my new favorite spot. As a coffee enthusiast who's lived across the country, I can easily say that coming back to my hometown and living in a different part of it was all I needed to find my favorite spot. From the ambiance and decor, the staff, and coffee itself, I love it all. I love to see leftist artwork and feel safe somewhere--living in Alabama and Texas for my adult life has made me be on edge about my transness, but there is so much obvious allyship here that I feel happy and safe in a place I enjoy relaxing at. I appreciate the staff here, too, always being very courteous of folks and just generally being kind. I am frequently nonverbal due to my autism and having an option to write my order out on a whiteboard really helps. I'm met with nothing but kindness and understanding when I cannot speak. My go-to is a Honey Bear latte with oat milk. Fantastic latte. The coffee has a wonderful flavor to it, and the honey is sweet and lightly floral. There's wonderful texture to the steamed oat milk, and no matter who is working I always have a fantastic experience here. That's crazy to me--the consistency is wonderful. Love this place. Very nice! Chill, quirky vibe. I love the "safe space" message on the counter. I had a Chicago Smaug, which was an Earl Grey and anise latte. Very interesting and delicious, glad I ventured out of my cozy beverage comfort zone and tried it. I also had a cranberry orange beignet, which was very fresh and luxurious tasting. All for a little over $10. Nice place to work. They've got a few large tables for community seating, several counters with immovable stools, and a small 2-3 seat window nook lounge. Accessibility: The entrance is has single step and a double door which may pose difficulty for wheel chairs, but if you can get past that, the tables can be wheelchair accessible. The chairs are plastic but sturdy and roomy for the large-bottomed individual such as myself. Parking is Wicker Parky. Paid street parking that is likely more difficult the closer to "party time." In fact, right outside its a tow zone 10 pm to 5 pm which is irrelevant for this business since they close at 7 pm. I was able to get a spot right in front on a late Sunday afternoon. Lots of nifty businesses nearby including Myopic Books a couple blocks away, might be a nice place to stop first to grab a nice book to enjoy! I'll definitely return. read more

Still good after 6 years of going here. Classic NES video games and everything you'd see in a 1980s teen's bedroom is on display. It's not just 80s gimmick and a Delorean though; the peanut butter Koopa Troopa and vanilla bean coffee are super great. Workers are not pretentious or anything and overall ambience is fun. The coffee and lattes here are undeniably good and they have a bunch of creative latte flavors, but I guess I happened to come when the rudest barista ever was working.... They were rolling their eyes while taking my order and did so for the other customers as well. When I asked where I could find milk to put in one of the coffees, they just impatiently looked over at a side milk table without saying anything. TRDR - busy, kinda loud, but great drinks and great chairs with back support for people with chronic back pain! I decided to venture to Wicker Park to revisit some high school nostalgia of hanging out over there. I haven't been to the Wormhole since it was redone and was kinda nervous it would be busy. Well it was busy (warm spring weather on a Saturday) but the line went quickly and there was actually some seating available. I think a lot of people take orders to go. The seating honestly was the best seating I think I've sat at at a cafe here in Chicago! All the staff I interacted with were great and I liked that the person at the register provided my iced chai latte for me right then and there instead of putting it in the queue with the espresso drinks. Great operational idea :) The only downside I'd say is that it was really loud and active in there so it was hard for me to concentrate. I'd be curious about returning maybe during the weekday to see if it's still as loud. read more

One of my coffee snob friends sent me a couple bags of Halfwit beans last year and Wormhole Coffee has been on my list of coffee shops to check out in Chicago since. I stopped by with a friend this past Monday evening in hopes of getting a bag of their beans and the honey latte that I've heard great things about. Due to the popularity and demand, they were unfortunately out of espresso for the day. The staff were super nice about it and gave me a cold brew (which was super smooth and a nice medium roast) and pour over (Ethiopian Guji - fruity and bright) on the house. I enjoyed talking to them about the single origins they had available and ended up buying a bag of Ethiopian Guji to take home! This place reminds me of a like vintage cozy styled cafe with retro gaming elements. The staff are very friendly and keep a good flow with their work. Seating can be hard to find as a lot of people come here to work. We got one of the specials, the miso black sesame latte. You can do alternative milk for an additional price but the basic one is whole milk. I'm not sure why the menu prices are listed in person, but you can find them online or ask the cashier, and they tend to be pretty standard for cup size ( 12 vs 16oz). A cortado I think was $3.5 so compared to aesthetic coffee shops this place is reasonably priced. I enjoyed the flavor of my latte, it was pleasant, lightly sweetened, and not too strong in coffee taste. Miso flavor was present to add that hint of salt but the black sesame was barely there. A must stop over if you're ever in Wicker Park. All my childhood favorites are here and the coffee is wicked yummy. The seating is a little skinny so you might have to wait. This has to be one of the slowest coffee shops I've ever been to. I waited 30 minutes for my coffee and they still hadn't even begun to make it. I had a reservation to make so I had to unfortunately leave without my drink. When I ordered I was quoted 15 minutes! On top of all that I ordered an 8oz coffee only to be charged extra than what was on their board (and no i didn't have any modification besides oat milk which was additional charge on top of that). You walk into a time wrap when you come in; there are all vintage memorabilia and throwback games around you. It is pleasantly nostalgic. I ordered the latte and a chocolate chip cookie. The latte was not too strong or bitter and smooth for a small size and two shots. It was a rich texture and paired nicely with the whole milk steamed. They have two locations in 2 awesome neighborhoods on the West side, and they happen to be in really cool (hipster) spots with plenty of restaurants, breweries, and vintage shopping (super walkable too). I tend to order sweeter drinks when I drop in since they have a 'Top Flavor' menu, but the regular lattes are awesome too. Besides the coffee, I love everything from the decor (nostalgic 80s films) to the super friendly staff. Seriously, they were super accommodating and took the time to make you feel welcome even though it was busy. I would say if you're looking for a stuffy, super bougie coffee shop, then this may not be the place for you.
