Cool and retro video game themed coffee spot, with incredibly open and welcoming staff, with a very diverse and delicious set of coffee options. I went ahead and got the Koopa-Troopa, a vegan peanut butter and chocolate mocha that really hit the spot. My friend got a standard cappuccino, and said it was very good and delicious too. I may have found my new local coffee spot. read more

once I saw the ghostly trio latte I knew I had to come here and try it for myself. came during the snowstorm and this was the perfect spot to dip in to warm up from the snow. absolutely loved my latte, it had such a unique flavor combo and I loved the umami hint from the white miso. they had a lot of other fun drink combinations that I need to come back and try. read more

If you love coffee, this place is for you! We got the vanilla bean and ghostly trio lattes and both were delicious--- I would definitely go back for the ghostly trio time and time again! Cool vibes inside with good amount of seating, even though it was all taken up by the time we got there. Helpful staff and quick service. Definitely a must stop coffee spot in Chicago! read more

Super busy and packed cafe. It can be overestimating without headphones but the noise mellows out in the afternoon. The decor is kinda cool and retro, a little dusty in a grungy sort of way, you're in wicker park, it fits right in. Service is efficient and friendly, baristas are great at managing the volume of orders. Koopa troopa, trio were too oaty and grainy for me.The Vanilla Bean Latte was good. read more

Checked this place out for a caffeine fix and enjoyed it. I ordered their vanilla latte and a chocolate croissant. The vanilla latte was incredible and not too sweet but the croissant was just fine. This place is definitely better for their drinks. My order came out quickly and there was plenty of seating available. read more

This cafe fits the style of Wicker Park so much! I came here for a small hot latte and spent some time inside reading a book. People there were interesting and friendly, either the baristas or the customers. The restroom looked so cool as well. Nice coffee too! read more

I have always seen this place come up when looking for great coffee and lattes, and I finally decided to try it myself. First, the interior is really cool with retro 80s and 90s memorabilia throughout. This place seems like it can get busy, but fortunately, my drink came promptly. Fortunately for my first visit, the beverage was absolutely delicious. The Ghostly Trio is a latte with a mixture of White Miso, Caramel, and Black sesame flavors. For such an unusual flavor profile, I didn't know what to expect. However, I can now say that this drink is one of my favorite lattes. The espresso was smooth, and the flavors provided a delicate, slightly sweet, and nutty taste to compliment the drink. I was very impressed by the creativity and execution of this drink and will surely be back for another dive into their menu. read more

Cool coffee shop, looks super small from outside but it goes pretty far back. They have great coffee drinks, nice single origin espresso options, and a delicious spinach croissant. I think they get the croissants from a local place. This place is a good place to work remotely but can be hard to find a seat. Although I went here on a Friday at 12:30 and there was space on a couch. read more

Review Visit: May 27th, 2015 Let me preface this by saying I have two reviews for this place in my head. The coffee/baked goods would give this place a 2.5-3/5... but due to the 80's nostalgic factor, I would give this a 5/5. So it averages out to about a 4/5. While browsing for things to do in Chicago, IL, I came across this nifty coffeehouse. It serves coffee and has an 80's theme to it. So I figured I would give it a shot since it seems right up my alley. They have a very unique menu for drinks. It's hard to describe, but I could only order what was specifically on the menu? So I grabbed a Peanut Butter Koopa-Troopa, thinking the Peanut Butter/Chocolate blend would be delicious. It really wasn't. I also grabbed a muffin of some kind and that was ok. But where they lacked (imo) on coffee/food, they made up in the nostalgic 80's theme. They have a freaking DeLorean... in a coffeehouse! On a couch was sitting an E.T. stuffed figure, so I sat next to him and just sat in awe. They really hit the nail on the head for decor. Maybe it was an off day. Maybe I was just expecting something different. Maybe a re-visit would nail this place a 5/5. As always, never subject your opinions to a review. An easy 5 stars! On a lazy Sunday afternoon, my friends and I swung by this cafe to try it for the first time. Very 80s themed, nerdy, rustic decor, it had. The vibe was very chill and hip. They had Evanescence playing in the background on the loop. Totally going with the theme. Plus it's a dog friendly cafe. Need I say more??!! Now for my coffee, I ordered The Ghostly Trio from their speciality menu. It had white miso caramel and black sesame latte. It was absolutely DIVINE. Very unique choice of combining white miso with home-ground black sesame which gave very understated sweetness for an aftertaste. Absolutely LOVED my coffee. They also replaced regular milk with Oat milk for me. The barista was very sweet and attentive, answered all my questions. He even drew a cute ghost on the paper cup for my order. It was absolutely my kind of a place. I wish we had more of these in downtown area. It seemed very accommodating for everyone who likes working/studying from cafes or even enjoys playing card games. They had a few including Uno. My friends and I also enjoyed a quick game of SkipBo. Finding parking can be challenging but we went on Sunday afternoon so it wasn't too bad. I would love to go back. Randomly came upon this place on a trip to Chicago, looking for a coffee spot nearby. Love the kitsch.. we thought it was horror movie themed, but think it is more 80s/90s themed. Great for (older) millenial nostalgia. My group generally enjoyed their coffees and pastries. It's 2025 and my favorite coffee spot is still The Wormhole Coffee. I've been going here the last 2 years and the quality and consistency is so good. Upon entrance, you walk into a really retro / nostalgic themed cafe. They have a lot of novelty decorations and decent seating for folks who are enjoying the ambiance. My favorite coffee hands down is the Honey Bear. My go to is a 16 oz iced, oat milk, honey bear. The iced coffee will run you around $8 a pop (on the pricier end) but to me it's totally worth it. The honey bear has the perfect balance of honey and strong expressive. Would recommend to anyone in the area! read more

My husband got me the lavender latte. I think it might be the best lavender latte i've had so far. I was told the lavender syrup is made in-house. It was not too sweet and had a nice mix of lavender and coffee flavors. I was very impressed with the coffee. My husband got the koopa troopa with oat milk and he loved his drink as well. read more

I thought this place was fine but maybe just not my vibe. Drinks were pretty expensive and they don't have almond milk (only soy and oat). I got the ghost latte and didn't taste much of the black sesame. Their coffee is definitely a dark roast so if you like a lighter coffee would also say to look elsewhere. read more

Waited in line for 15 minutes then waited another 30 minutes for our two lattes. Ended up leaving WITHOUT them because they STILL hadn't started to make them! After 30 minutes! Wasted our time and money--all because the baristas were moving EXTREMELY slow--tons of people waiting for coffee and they had ZERO urgency. Cool, retro themed coffee shop in wicker park. The coffee options are great if you enjoy sweet, creative concoctions. I always just get the iced vanilla latte. The whole coffee shop is themed to the 90s. There's a model of a delorian from back to the future. Gremlins, Mario bros and other iconic characters sprinkled throughout the shop. Great place to drop in for a coffee of post up for a few hours and get work done. read more

Talk about a blast to the past! The decor at wormhole takes you back to the 80s/90s whilst serving up a great cup of coffee. I had a miso caramel with black sesame latte that changed my life. We came here after lunch for an afternoon pick me up. Love the interior decor! They have a lot of 90's memorabilia around and it will make you walk down memory lane. I also love their service! When you go and order your coffee, they will ask you whether or not you want dairy or non-dairy and I LOVE that. My husband is lactose intolerant and whenever we go out for coffee, I don't always remember to ask for an alternative. So I really appreciate this. I decided to go for their ghostly trio (white miso, caramel, black sesame latte) while my husband got their koopa troopa (peanut butter mousse and vegan chocolate latte). Their drinks do come hot as default so if you want it iced, be sure to let them know. I normally prefer my coffee iced but figured the flavors will come out better hot. To be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of the ghostly trio -- I couldn't really taste much of the miso, caramel, and black sesame. I could tell that there's a flavor there but I would have never been able to figure it out without reading the menu. It was also pretty weak on the coffee flavor. I actually really liked my husband's koopa troopa -- you could definitely taste the peanut butter and as you drink it, it finishes with the chocolate. Despite that, I'm not sure if it's a drink I'd get on the daily. Overall, pretty cool place to check out. Loved the customer service. I'm not a huge fan of their product but I can see why it's super popular. Not sure if I'd come back if I were to visit Chicago again though. read more

Walking into the cafe, you'll see a lot of nostalgic paraphernalia around that'll remind you of your childhood. There's even a Delorean parked illegally inside, and the owner hasn't moved the car despite the parking tickets. I wasn't quite sure of the menu, so the barista suggested I try the Cool But Rude after I told him my preferences. Best coffee I've ever had. So glad we stopped here for our morning coffee! Honey Bear 5/5 Smaug 5/5 never had anything like it! Such a nostalgic decor! I love love Back to the Future - there's a DeLorean parked on the top of the shop. Spock is chilling on another shelf. And there's gen 1 blow cartridges on top of your old school TV. Last summer, Melissa M and I waited with much anticipation as we watched the space that would eventually become The Wormhole come to fruition. Opening week, we were there nearly every day - for the first few months we remained glued there, proud of being early adopters of such a great new place in the neighborhood while also spreading the gospel of the shop to whoever cared to listen (and often to folks who maybe didn't care so much either). As time went by and summer turned to fall, the Worm's notoriety became wider spread and seats became harder and harder to attain. Our frequency dwindled down to nothing and that was that. It was a good summer. C'est la vie. A few months ago, a new roommate moved into the house and having spent the whole of his (short thus far) adult life both frequenting and working in coffee shops, he took to our recommendation to check out The Wormhole when he got the chance. Not suprisingly, he became a huge fan and began going practically every day - with him there to text us as to the status of occupancy and seat availability, we found ourselves slowly pulled back in. As of late, it feels like we're there nearly every day and by no means is that a bad thing. Finding seats isn't as hard as we mythologized in our minds and the coffees (the mocha latte in particular) and cereal bowls (Reese's with espresso shots) are as strong as they were nearly nine months ago when the shop opened. Lack of consistency has certainly not been an issue for these folks as they've continued to move from strength to strength in their rapid approach to wrapping up their inaugural year. The main staff who are there day in and day out know us by atleast face now and know our preferences to a degree, no small feat given the amount of casual foot traffic and regulars creating a near overwhelming stream of work for them during many points of the day (a load they seem to handle with ease). Sure the decor and themes featured so prominently play their part in hooking folks in, but the service, atmosphere and product are what really set the Worm apart. Even a patron walking in once could potentially feel like they're within a close circle, a rarity indeed given the typically sterile attitudes and exclusivity found in most coffee shops where one is either on the ins or treated as an inconvenience just for wanting to buy something. I'm looking forward to being a regular here ten years from now where no doubt I'll have by then racked up a dozen or so five star yelp updates as I continue to watch them progress. read more

YES! .... wait, nothing here is for sale, oh wait except, ohhhhhhhhhh its a coffee shop. W T F! OK OK. the coffee is good, great even, but I don't appreciate your rouse. Rouse? Your cunning attempt to trick me. Or is that reference a decade too late to be associated with your ultra cool 80's theme, which if you wanted to be consistent, should be serving Maxwell house. (which if you did, probably half the customers wouldn't even notice cause their senses are overloaded with Atari and star wars action figures) It is hilarious to read all these super hip people gobble up your B.S. theme. I love the 80's too, don't get me wrong but its grandeur defiles the very focus of your shop, or lack thereof. But hey I guess you gotta find some way to compete with filter for hipster coffee shop extraordinaire. I was hoping that amazing coffee alone would do the trick, but hey I'm not trying to win the confused hearts of a lost generation. Why not go with a folk music theme? Hip people like that these days, or bikes!!!! The bicycle is a timeless classic of a machine, (guess it's no time machine though) it works great for Chili pepper bike shop in Moab Utah, sure the coffee is shit but the combination bike/coffee shop makes sense, after all, caffeine and adrenaline are an amazing duo! New to this zip, I am. This place isn't bad. Isn't crap. It's the precise opposite of dismal. What to do about that, indeed. To be sure, they had discombobulation issues up front when I was here a few weeks back. Now it appears different, and worthwhile. Suddenly, there is bar seating behind their Mirage espresso delivery system, which is arguably in a shortlist of best machines on the planet for the creation of such required, daily elements. I don't know, the place looks badass. The drinks are on-point and thousands of leagues tastier and/or more exactingly prepped than any place within expectorating-slash-cycling distance. The minions here are young and weird and more stable and personable than expected. They're happy to provide you codes for Contra for the love of caesar's ghost. SuperC isn't even the same code as the original Contra, you know. It's maddening. It's comfortable and chill up in the worm. The internet functions like the thyroid of a champion Eastern-bloc grappler, chunky and swift. Food selection appears to have changed for the better as opposed to August. I've only been in here a time or two and I'll be honest, maybe the decor has me fooled. I mean, they've given me great coffee both times I've been here, but maybe I just got lucky? I don't know. I was too busy staring at all of the lost relics of my childhood, all of the stuff my mom probably sold for pennies at one her garage sales - things I now begrudging find myself rebuying for obscene amounts of money on eBay. Stupid really. But back to Wormhole - lots of hot guys behind the counter serving me hot coffee with fast wireless for my gadgets. What's not to love? I mean really, and that one guy Seth who looks like he could be related to a pack of bears somewhere off in a national park? I don't know, he's kind of an ass and he spit shines the counter with a rag he uses to wipe the sweat from his forehead, but what the hell, he makes a bad ass espresso. Now that I think about it, he made it both times I've been in. I heard he's leaving though, so maybe my coffee will taste different now since there won't be boy sweat swimming in it? Whatever. I have nothing bad to say about these people they've done it right from the beginning. I feel like they care more than anybody. Best coffee shop vibe, amazing staff. THE BEST coffee. Nobody makes it as good as them. Everyone knows the truth Everyone knows it is the best Wormhole is now part of my daily life. I recommend it to any human on earth especially those seeking the best coffee possible. The owner treats his employees really nice and he is ripped, young, and rich and sometimes works there in the morning. Everyone else who works there are true characters and they are all the best at what they do. Side note: when my friend got killed by a drunk driver they came to me and offered to take care of beverages and food for a memorial which is very kind from a small business. they just came out of nowhere. They are definitely a great caring place, they care about their customers and their job. BONUS, lots of vegan options. OK look. I'd give this place 5 stars if it was just an empty room with that Back To The Future DeLorean in it. In fact, it could just be a room full of hungry wolves and that DeLorean and I'd be first in line to spend a few hours in here. Which is good, since that's exactly what Wormhole is, if you replace the hungry wolves with friendly baristas, lots of couches and tables, a playable 8-bit Nintendo, and tons of great 80s movie posters. Other than that, EXACTLY the same. Their culinary calling card seems to be the large selection of 80s themed novelty drinks, but I couldn't be bothered to stray from a boring by comparison cappuccino. It was easily the best coffee I had in Chicago, and a must-have item every day I was visiting. I'm a geek! Of course I love the decor! The staff is generally kind, and it's cool that they have free wifi and free 8 bit video games to play. The prices are ok. The food leaves much to be desired but drinks are solid! They offer FREE COFFEE to anyone that shows up before 9am (I think) if you're wearing your bike helmet! Cool. But the atmosphere is very difficult to socialize in. Maybe that's what happens when you go that far into geek-zone. Maybe these hipsters are the ones that used to live in their mom's basement and not talk to anyone. Maybe that's why, when you walk in, it's packed, but no one is really communicating with each other. Anyhow. I like this place. I just wish it's vibe offered a little something more, I guess. I swung in on a Saturday morning, spent around $15 on a Peanut Butter Koopa Troopa latte, a straightforward iced mocha, and a cinnamon roll. The coffee's roasted locally, the drinks aren't too sweet, and that PB latte had just enough nutty punch without going overboard. Barista knew their stuff, made my macchiato with care, and actually cracked a joke--definitely not the grumpy vibe some Redditors complain about . Coffee was okay, the flavor was average at best, a bit on the burnt side. The real kicker for me was the service. The barista thought it was appropriate to mansplain the options for me, and then suggested I should just get a simple vanilla latte, implying I didn't understand the options and should stick to the basics. His tone combined with his harsh attitude made me very uncomfortable ordering and scared to place a customized order. This is what I would call the opposite of customer service unfortunately. Maybe if he had been more kind and patient, his explanations would not of sounded so condescending, but the message was very clear that he didn't care much about his customers. The Wormhold is a neat little place, decked out in 80s decor. The coffee was good, which is the main reason you'd come to a coffeeshop. However, I was underwhelmed by the baked goods. For me, I love to pair my coffee in the morning with some form of a baked good, whether it be a donut or a muffin or something else. I tried a few items from here, and they were all only okay. The donut was interesting- very, very dense, and not like a donut at all. I tried a muffin as well, but I guess since everything is vegan, they taste different than I'm used to? Stopped in while visiting some friends and absolutely loved it! The soy vanilla latte is, without a doubt, the best coffee drink I've ever had. I also enjoyed the peanut butter koopa troopa very, very much. The staff, friendly and accommodating, knows their shat about anything coffee and its related products. Plus they're hilarious. At last the uber-cool wormhole has opened in Wicker Park. The single thing rarer in Chicago than coffee shops that pull espresso in the degree of an ideal beauty I 'd now, are coffee shops with Deloreans parked in the front window. In the event you are seriously interested in java you need to have a look at this area as they have it going on at the maximal degree. Even if java is not your thing and you simply need a fun and hip area to hang the Wormhole goes on your list. Great coffee shop with super cool decor! Came here for coffee, and loved how unique and delicious all of the drinks looked! I ended up getting a ghostly trio latte, (white miso caramel and black sesame) and my friend got a koopa troopa latte (chocolate peanut butter) They had lots of vegan options which was great. Coffee is local and tasty. Make sure you have a mask, they are strictly enforced. The ambiance is so relaxed and I love the 80's motif. I am a kid of the 80's and so need to steal the ALF lunch box off they are wall. : PThe staff is friendly, lots of room to sit and great place. I come here every now and then like a guilty pleasure of mine. Sometimes the baristas swear and talk to you super casually, and it makes you feel nervous, like they know you're not a real Wormholer worthy of the super great vibe in there and they're gonna pin you to the DeLorean on the wall and take turns throwing coffee at you and laughing. Got a chance to stop by here one afternoon. It wasn't crowded at all, so I was attended to very quickly. I ordered a regular matcha latte and 3 macaroons (lemon, blueberry lavender, and salted caramel), which they spend time individually packing. The matcha latte was one of the best ones I had in a while - very rich, not too bitter, with a hint of sweetness. Every sip felt like a reward for simply existing. Also tried something called "False Spring," which has carrot juice in it (I know, I had questions too). But somehow it works! It's fresh, a little sweet, and makes you feel like you've made a good life decision--even if you're just ordering coffee in pajamas. While reading I saw that Metric in Chicago was on the list. And that was the sign this place had to be a must try! Came here on a Saturday morning. I walked a few miles from downtown to the neighborhood this place is in. It is in an industrial part town of area. Kind of reminds me of the west bank of the flats area or temont type of area we have in Cleveland. The shop itself is not very big. However the coffee, is absolutely incredible. While there I met Cara . She was so friendly and knowledgeable. I mentioned that the reason for making the walk to this place was to see how it measured with award of top 100 shop. From there I got my espresso. Amazing. Just amazing! Cara also took the time explain the cupping process. And how Metric gets their beans. The educational experience for a coffee nerd like myself was . And then getting a chance to do the cupping was icing on the cake!!! I'm very glad that I got to experience this gem of a shop.
