Ambiance is lowkey kinda dark and mysterious but the HH crowd makes it a bit lively. The music was low enough that you could have had a nice conversation but with everyone chatting you'd end up talking a bit louder to be heard. The staff is nice and friendly. Especially the person working as the host in the front. Wait staff was also attentive. Only downside is they have those card reader things so you pay at the table and they can see what you're tipping. I find it funny but also a bit intimidating but anyway remember to always tip your server !!! I was able to catch the tail end of their HH (ends at 7pm) and got the Negroni. I don't know who made it but they have a heavy pour which is much appreciated most days. Grilled cheese sandwich was simple and well done. I had several cheese pull moments while eating it. Bread was nicely toasted and buttery(?). The grilled cheese typically comes with a tomato soup but I don't like soup so I asked for fries and they allowed the substitute (!) I got the roasted chicken salad, which was so hearty, healthy, and filling! It has cotija cheese, avocado, jalapeno, and lettuce. They skimp on nothing, and it's well worth the price. Everything came so quickly, yet was very fresh. Service is efficient, and interrupts you minimally. Prices are beyond affordable, especially for the area. Came here for a private party and was very impressed! We were downstairs and there was food and cocktails available. The excellent bartender made a delicious Wren Old Fashioned. I was a big fan. The food was great too. Loved the Buffalo Cauliflower. The fries were excellent and the sliders were juicy and delicious. So often, sliders get dried out because they are overcooked. These were great. The space is cozy and it got a little warm downstairs when it filled up. The upstairs was packed on a Saturday night, with people crammed into the narrow bar area so ingress and egress was difficult and hazardous. Nobody at the bar seemed to want to let anyone pass. I'll just assume they were entitled millennials and leave it at that! Just kidding...kind of. :) Otherwise, a very nice place and a great spot for an event. read more

If you are looking for a new great brunch spot in the city, look no further. I truly enjoyed everything here. My all time favorites were the churros and the cauliflower. There were 4 of us and we each got a one fourth which was perfect to go alongside our main dishes. I personally LOVE a little sweet to go with my savory but I don't usually want something sweet as my main. The cauliflower and that sauce to go with is !!!! I could have eaten the cauliflower by myself. I had the chilaquiles as my main, it was yummy. I could have used a little more heat and a little more in general but it was tasty. I also enjoyed the wren-quila as my drink, super refreshing, spicy and delish! My friends had the burger, they enjoyed it and it seemed like more of a filling brunch item. My husband and I stumbled upon The Wren after walking for ages trying to find a restaurant with outdoor seating that was open in the late afternoon on a Friday. The Wren appeared like an oasis, with its adorable outdoor booths and festive decor. Our temperatures were checked and we completed a contact form as soon as we were seated. We ordered the disco nachos and a couple fish tacos to share. We also enjoyed some cocktails as well. The drinks were well balanced and the snacks were just right. Great service and food! Between the seven of us, we tried all the brunch options - there aren't many to choose from but there's something for everyone. I would highly recommend their sausage sandwich and their cauliflower bites. My friend got their churro waffles and finished every bite. We didn't try any of their drinks but they sounded great. We stopped by here on a cold Saturday night to get a drink and some appetizers. Each table thankfully had its own heater. For covid precautions- staff were wearing masks, tables were spread apart, and hand sanitizer was inside. Since I could barely feel my fingers, I wanted a warm drink so I got the Crowe's nest. This was the first time I've had a warm mezcal drink, and I wasn't upset with this idea...I loved it! It was just right on the sweetness and it paired well with the apple cider (also surprised with the idea of mixing mezcal with apple cider!!!). We had dinner plans at our friend's place so we stuck with appetizers here. We ordered fries, fried cauliflower and chips and salsa. Lol yes, it was all fried, we hadn't eaten all day. My favorite was actually the chips and salsa, the salsa tasted like it was made with fire roasted tomatoes. I wish the size of the salsa was bigger. The cauliflower was good too, there was a hint of lemon which enhanced the flavor. And the fries...can never go wrong with fries! The ambience was great and service was on point. Came here for brunch with a group of 7 for brunch. Luckily they were able to seat us. The rest of experience was just alright. Frozen Irish coffee drinks were pretty good but didn't seem that strong. For the table we split fries and fried cauliflower (confusing ordering experience, as the online menu is not the full menu that the staff knows/is able to serve) and for my main I got the for forbidden rice bowl. It was pretty good, but then you realize it's just some cooked forbidden rice, salsa, cheese avocado, and egg. To be fair, that's what the menu says and it is a lighter option, but was pretty underwhelmed. Pretty good to try but I don't think I'll be itching to go back soon. read more

Went on a brunch date with some friends and I must say that this is one of the nicest brunch restaurants I have ever been to. The restaurant is not too small, but it is pretty comfortable. The aesthetics are so cute and there would definitely be cute picture opportunities here; the only thing is that the lighting is a little dark. We were seated immediately since there were not that many people on a Wednesday afternoon. The server was extremely nice and helpful as well. Food overall was pretty delicious. I ordered the maple sausage sandwich and it tasted like a fancier version of the McDonald's breakfast sandwich. I loved every part of the sandwich! They give jalapenos and sriracha on the side, so if you like your food spicy, you have the option to add those in. I have been to The Wren three times now and am impressed by every visit. The drinks can be hit or miss, but you cannot go wrong as far as food goes. The lighting is dim except for tables toward the front of the restaurant, and the service is somewhat casual--you won't be smothered, but the staff are accommodating and willing to provide recommendations. We did that thing where we look at the menu although we both kind of knew what we wanted but also figured that would be the same thing the other wanted and didn't wanna be unoriginal but ended up ordering the same thing anyway. We do this often, btw. We had the sausage sandwich, and it was gucci. The menu said it had crispy potatoes, which I assumed were a side item but actually they were part of the sandwich. They implemented the hipster bar design manual perfectly. The wood bar, candlelight and not much real lighting give the place that purposefully distressed look. Service was good though not great as had to wait awhile for the food even though place was not that busy. Wine list is limited but good as did have a California chard. My weekender Bloody Mary was good as liked the spiced rim. Next time likely go for spicier one as found weekender a bite tame. We had a private party here in their downstairs area, and I can't say enough about how easy it was to coordinate or how professional the staff was. We were looking for a place to host a birthday party and learned that this space has a downstairs area that they offer for such occasions. They state that the maximum capacity is around 60 people and they require a minimum spend to reserve the space (but they don't charge for the actual space rental). The private space is downstairs, away from the huge crowd upstairs, and it has a fairly sized bar area in the front with a half dozen tables/benches in the back. They decor is rustic, similar to the upstairs area, with raw wood and overhead stringed bulb lighting. We had ordered balloons to be delivered from Balloon Saloon. When we arrived about 30 minutes before our designated start time, balloons were in the middle of the room waiting to be setup, and we were greeted by the friendliest and most helpful staff. They served us drinks throughout the night and updated us on the bar tab periodically. They also let us know the amount we were projected to reach based on the pace of the night in case we needed to close down earlier or encourage people to have a few more drinks. They had a great selection of cocktails and beers on tap, and their kitchen offered a range of small platters--think mac and cheese bites, bruschetta, etc. Everything from the drinks to the staff and the space was perfect for our party! The one critique that I'll make is that leading up to our party we emailed a few different times without response and needed to ask multiple times for a response from the staff responsible for their correspondence. Despite that, I'd easily recommend this place for anyone hosting a small party in the area. read more

Awesome place! I recently went here for a private event downstairs and absolutely loved the venue. Firs thing I noticed was the funky hanging lights from the ceiling, it made me think of an outdoor BBQ in the summer, very upbeat and really opened up the room. It has a fun, vintage like vibe. I can definitely see this place getting packed. As soon as I arrived at the event, I asked the bartender to mix me up a cocktail, and he made me a delicious cucumber Gimlet. Delightful. At the event they had a beautiful cheese platter and some seriously amazing veggie plates including zucchini fritters, spinach and artichoke dip, buffalo cauliflower and Shishito peppers. Everything was delightful and everyone was raving about how much they loved the venue. The downstairs bar is a great place to host an event for 30-40 people. I recommend trying the maple sausage burger and the French press coffee. Cute decor and nice brunch spot. The service was also nice.
