It's 1:49 AM, & here I am typing a review of The Wrigley Tavern. My friend randomly picked me up from home at 11:50 pm & suggested we drive around & find something to do. I'm a hermit, homebody, professional procrastinator, & I was repeatedly turning down a last minute night out. Either way I ended up outside in my Kirkland sweatpants, a zip up hoodie, & a KUFFIYEH. We rendezvous at the local 711 for hot chocolate and lotto tickets and decided on the Wrigley Tavern. Best decision we made all day! We sat down took in the ambiance and said "this is a nice little gem." Ordered water, wine, and a flat bread pizza. Overall we enjoyed the ambiance. The lighting is dim, the decor is nice, and the music playing through the speaker system is at the perfect setting. Loud enough to hear the lyrics yet light enough to have a conversation with someone & actually understand what the other person is saying. The wine was great, and the water was very refreshing, at the same time that we said... "this water is perfect..." The small clique on the opposite end shouted "This is the best F*** water I ever had!" The flat bread, was maybe a bit too salty, and burnt on the edges BUT let me tell you the regulars at the bar boost this place up to a 5 out of 5! While we were catching up "the clique," placed at the corner of the bar; was randomly chatting in Spanglish, and just about every other sentence was nothing but entertaining. At one point one of the guys was leaning upwards as if he was doing parkour on on his stud lady friend. And may the universe bless the flamboyant guy who shouted... "Remember when I B*** slapped you like it was a soap opera?!" A few mins later they were reenacting a Mexican-Spanish Tele Novella. I asked them for a rewind and of course I filmed it. As soon as they were done, I looked over to my friend and we both said "we're coming back!" The bartender was nice and he indeed let us know that these bar actors are regulars. Both my brothers bartend locally and you bet I sent them photos and video, asking "why don't you have people like this at your pub?!" If I could give out more stars I would. Happy holidays!

The bartenders and owner are great people and they know their alcohol. Nice dark local bar.

Cameoi, Buffalo Trace instead of Bulleit. Extremely good

I've been here a bunch, just realized I've still never written them a review, so fixing that finally. They are definitely a "neighborhood bar" first, cocktail bar second - it's a great chill vibe, the sort of place that's never too busy (at least when I've been there) and where the music is never too loud to be able to talk. Their bartenders are all great, and they have quality spirits and reasonably priced drinks. And they do *have* a cocktail list - but compared to, for instance, Wicked Wolf nearby, for similar prices, cocktails that aren't quite as complex or as exciting, necessarily, but they have all been great cocktails. I also particularly like that they have, at least at the moment, Buffalo Trace on hand, so I can put that in any whiskey cocktail for about the same price. On their current menu, I particularly liked the "Cameoi" (bourbon, basil, lemon, blueberry, hibiscus cider) and the "Conquistador" (corn vodka, frangelico, romepope custard liqueur - as-is, it's basically a drinkable dessert, which is great if you're looking for dessert, but it's also an easy drink to swap different spirits in - I've also tried off-menu versions with mezcal and with Buffalo Trace that were also great.) I have only actually gotten food here once, and it was a couple years ago - their flatbread was nothing I'd go out of my way for specifically, but it's definitely also something I'd be happy to order if I were hungry and I was here. That said, the *real* draw that keeps getting me to stop in here, is the live jazz they have every Saturday at 8 PM. The jazz trio that plays here is fantastic, so whenever I'm out that direction on Saturday in the evening (most likely because something's going on at Wicked Wolf), I also try to arrange to pop in here during the live jazz. Cocktails go great with live jazz, and they're a super talented jazz trio. (But it wouldn't be such a draw if they didn't *also* make great cocktails.)

Left one is a custom drink with tequila not sure what my date ordered lol

Did not get the chance to eat there, but the drinks were good made with confidence and precisely what I ordered as tasted. Service was good he we solo bartending and got busy a little but he handled everything well and kept walking by us. Overall I think it is a nice place for a date, it was a little dark but it set the tone to the theme, old school like bar with old movies on the tv and the music was nice , old fashion and low so you can actually hear what your date is saying. If you want to some theirs a table and chair in the back where the parking is and they have a few hung up lights so you can see the Long Beach city sky.

Like what is going on with this bathroom window...

My friends and I came here because it had such great Yelp reviews. We were all starving, saw they had flatbreads and were excited for the outside patio. I will say that the service was great. The bartender and what I'm assuming was the owner were extremely attentive and kind. Very good vibes from them. Why I feel it was necessary to even leave a review is because it felt like false advertisement. First of all, the outside patio they once had no longer exists. It's extremely overgrown and they have legit 2 very small tables that feel like you're just propped up behind the building. We were really looking forward to the patio. It was just so bizarre. As for food, it was just not it. The wedge salad wasn't bad. I mean it's kind of hard to mess up a wedge salad. But the flatbread was so hard to eat. The prosciutto was basically Canadian bacon though don't quote me on that. Just didn't taste like prosciutto from my experience. But the dough was not just sooo ultra thin... but it was so soft and mushy. None of it was cooked all the way or even slightly crispy. The flavors were beyond bizarre together. We were so starving so we kinda just were like, F it let's have some anyways. We all felt sick after we ate it. I hate leaving negative reviews as I've been in the restaurant industry for 15+ years but this was the weirdest experience ever and I wish the flatbread resembled the pictures on Yelp and that they had an actual patio.

If you're looking for a fun and local bar in the Long Beach area, this is the place! Small seating area inside, but there is a really aesthetic, outside seating area that has a lot of space for groups big and small! The bartenders and staff are super friendly and attentive despite how busy this place got on a Saturday evening but they accommodated for my cousins party/big group so well, so huge thank you to The Wrigley for hosting us! They have a wide selection of drinks both alcoholic and virgin style drinks as well. Some of my family members do not drink alcohol so they were very accommodating on that part too. They have really delicious flatbreads also that help to curb your hunger if you are drinking a lot so definitely give those a try! Clean restrooms is a huge plus especially for a bar, the only small bit of a con would be the small parking area so I would definitely suggest to Uber over if possible!

It's clear the owners put a lot of thought and creativity into making their cocktails the centerpiece of the experience. That said, the execution didn't live up to the concept. The menu appears to rotate regularly, and while the drinks were certainly unique, most of the cocktails we tried were hit or miss. At roughly $22 per drink, I expected more balance and refinement. One cocktail started with flavors reminiscent of an Old Fashioned, but after the initial sip, the combination of bitters and fruit syrups created an unpleasant cough syrup like finish. We tried a mocktail as well, and it was mostly ice and soda water, with what seemed like a collection of syrups doing most of the heavy lifting. The drinks were creative, but many of the flavor profiles felt disjointed rather than intentional. The biggest issue, however, was the bar service and sanitation practices. I watched a bartender place a cucumber garnish into a glass using his bare hands, touching the entire garnish in the process. He then continued to take credit cards, cash, and other items before stuffing ice into additional drinks with his bare hands. Whether or not this technically violates health code standards, it certainly wasn't appetizing to watch and left a poor impression. Parking is another challenge. There is no dedicated parking, and unless you get lucky, expect to park several blocks away and walk. Overall, the atmosphere is a lot of fun and the cocktail menu is ambitious, but the drinks didn't justify the price point, and the sanitation concerns were hard to overlook. I wouldn't rush back, especially given the cost and parking difficulties.

We stopped by late Saturday night and were able to snag an immediate walk-in at the bar at Hao Peng You, which is the intimate speakeasy portion of Midnight Oil. The decor definitely reminded me of my grandparents' house in Taiwan, with vintage, ornate wooden chairs, dragon/lion statue carvings, and even a historic century old marital bed that had been repurposed into a booth. The drinks were also VERY unique, with my favorite being Hua sheng (literally meaning peanut), which was crafted from a nostalgic childhood peanut milk drink. All our cocktails were crafted very well, to the point where I thought they were a bit on the lighter side since I couldn't really taste the alcohol. This section does get really busy though and only had one bartender who is making/serving drinks and taking orders, so do expect a bit of a wait. Overall, highly recommend checking out this vibey vintage Taiwanese-inspired speakeasy (that my inner history nerd was so excited about), and I'll definitely be back to try their food items as well as their two other bar/restaurant concepts!

After a while, she informed us that the crispy rice we ordered was sold out. She mentioned that the bartender was supposed to let us know, but he never did. What made the experience more uncomfortable was that the bartender seemed to be giving most of his attention to the Caucasian customers on the other side of the bar. We were the only Asian customers there, and unfortunately, this left us feeling like we were being treated differently because of our race. The good food and drinks helped compensate for the poor service, so we decided not to let it ruin our evening. However, things got even more disappointing at the end. After I paid, I noticed that I had been charged for the crispy rice even though we never received it. It can get crowded on weekends and the worst part is having to wait in line for the elevator. The elevators are quite small and when everyone's trying to get to the rooftop bar, it can feel like you're waiting at a club just to get into the elevator. The bartenders are really cool and on weekends they have a DJ. No one really dances but it's nice to have the vibe. Definitely one of my favorite places in Long Beach right now.

My cousins and I got there around 9 p.m. on a Friday. It was steady, but when we went up for our first drinks the bar itself wasn't very busy--there were maybe two people in front of us and two behind us. I mention this because it matters for context. My cousin ordered two drinks, one for him and one for his girlfriend. We were talking and at some point I looked at his girlfriend's drink, which was already about halfway empty, and noticed a fairly large crack running across one side of the glass, right above where the remainder of her drink was. I said, "Hey, your glass has a significant crack in it," and she laughed it off and said she noticed and was just drinking from the other side. I told her she absolutely should not do that because there was already a chip near the rim and there could potentially be tiny pieces of glass in the drink. I also told her we needed to bring it to the bartender's attention because that's a legitimate safety issue. Someone who isn't paying attention could cut their lip or potentially ingest glass. By the time we went back up to the bar, it had gotten quite a bit busier. We explained what happened to the bartender and he asked if we got the drink there. We said yes and pointed out the female bartender who had originally served us. He asked what the drink was, walked away, served a few other people, and eventually brought us a replacement. We were completely patient. We understood that the bar was busier at this point, we weren't rude, and we weren't upset about having to wait. What bothered me was when he handed us the replacement and said, "Next time you need to let us know when it happens." That response really rubbed me the wrong way. It's not the customer's responsibility to inspect a glass before drinking from it, and obviously we would have said something sooner if we had noticed it sooner. Considering the bar wasn't particularly busy when the drink was originally made, I was also surprised that a crack that significant wasn't noticed before the glass was served. I did take a photo of the bartender afterward because I wanted to make sure I could identify the person involved when I brought the interaction to management's attention. I spoke with the person who identified himself as the manager and explained what happened. He said he would speak with the bartender, but the response also felt somewhat dismissive given that my concern was ultimately about customer safety and how the situation was handled. Accidents happen and glasses crack. Had the drink simply been replaced and the concern acknowledged appropriately, I honestly probably wouldn't be writing this review. It was the combination of being served a visibly cracked glass, being told that we should have notified them sooner, and then feeling like the concern wasn't taken particularly seriously when I brought it to management that ultimately prompted me to leave an honest review. Beautiful property and amazing view, but the way this situation was handled definitely left a bad impression.
