My mom and I went to The Write Image to choose and order wedding invitations because we wanted to support the local business and wanted an experienced second opinion. The selection process was the best part - our sales associate was very knowledgeable and honest. I looked forward to coming into the store to talk to her! She made it easy and ordered any samples we wanted to see so that we could make the best/informed decision. Unfortunately, she left the store in the midst of our process to graduate from college and move on! Good for her, but we missed her! We ordered our invitations with the help of a different associate and the process seemed to go smoothly. The proof from the vendor came in on time, but the directions card was incorrect (not even the right motif). So I emailed the associate and asked if it would match the rest of the cards. I guess she missed that in the email because the directions cards came in wrong. So we had to wait another week for the cards to come in and another week to have The Write Image print our map on the back. Another issue that upset us was that we were charged $50 for color ink on the return address on the outer envelope, when we were never informed of this option (was not in the original estimate). If we were offered black, we would have said yes to that to save a couple bucks - invitations are expensive! I give The Write Image 2 stars because when I go to a specialty shop, I expect to get expert guidance, but a few things slipped through the cracks. Nice selection of stationery for special occasions or even everyday use when you want something nicer than copy-paper. Write Image really struck me as a place to go for wedding invitations or announcements or gifts for similar events. If you're a calligrapher, some of the paper here would be ideal, albeit pricey. The Write Stuff did have some really beautiful picture frames that would be a good gift for a wedding or graduation. The small calculator with an attached pen in a case that, at first glance, looked like it carried a pair of fold-up reading glasses, might get me back in the store. Horrendous experience! I visited this shop for my wedding invitations and dealt directly with the owner, who is completely incompetent has the intelligence level of a gnat. At first, she "appeared" to know what she was doing, but as time went on, we quickly realized this woman was nothing more than a charlatan. Anyone in this type of business is expected to have a meticulous attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and competent enough to effectively communicate and deliver adequate and appropriate customer service without being told HOW to do it. I constantly felt like I was the one telling her how to do her job, how do deliver customer service and how to effectively communicate with the vendor that messed up my order. Though I understand that vendor error was not her fault, her handling of the situation was absolutely ridiculous! She initially told us that the invitations would be assembled, which was part of the reason we chose to add a tied ribbon to the invitation. Assembly was an absolute must and it was very important to us, as we are both very busy and did not have the time to be assembling invitations. When my order arrived and she contacted me to pick-up, I drove in an hour of traffic, after work, to her office, only to find multiple bags of boxes on her office floor. That was an immediate red flag for me; and it should have been one for her too. If the invitations were actually assembled, there would be no need for that MANY bags and boxes. When I addressed this with her, she said that the reason there were bags and boxes on her floor was because she was "waiting on new shelving", clearing MISSING the point! As it turned out, the invitations were NOT assembled, as suspected. She should have noticed this before contacting me and wasting my time. Second, it wasn't until I got all the way over there, did she also notice that the ribbon was missing. Clearly, she didn't even bother to open my order to confirm that everything delivered correctly before contacting me to pick-up. Why was this not done before contacting me and wasting my time? Is it not a standard practice for her to check client orders when they arrive? Over the course of correcting the order with the vendor, she back peddled on the invitations being assembled and suggested that I assemble them myself. She shamelessly passed along the vendor's excuse of them being "too labor intensive", which was absolutely unacceptable. The reason I came to her shop was because I expected premium and personal service with a meticulous attention to detail, all of which her service severely lacked. From scribbling our invitation language, on a piece of paper, which she has no expertise on, to claiming that she can "read her own handwriting", which she CANNOT, based on the absolute mess she emailed me afterwards to confirm, with our names still misspelled, even after we corrected her in the meeting, to church denomination offensively incorrect (you don't need to be a religious scholar to know a "Greek Orthodox Catholic Church" DOES NOT EVEN EXIST!), and the list goes on..to her poor handling of our order with HER vendor, the attention to detail was non-existent. Instead, What we got was service from someone who just dumped excuses and issues from their vendor onto us, took zero accountability and what could be controlled by her was very sloppily and carelessly done; like she had no clue what she was doing. It's her choice to do business with the vendors she does business with, therefore, it is her responsibility to make sure that they deliver on what they promise and if they don't, she needs to find an adequate solution, not dump their excuses on her clients. I don't care for the excuses they gave her and she should not have provided those to me, adding more stress to the situation. If HER vendor was not cooperating, that was HER problem to handle and she should not have made it mine. It wasn't until I got upset about the invitations not being assembled, did she finally find a suitable solution, which was taking it upon herself to have them assembled. Why it took her that long to deliver this level of customer service is beyond me. When I addressed her absurd handling of this situation, she said that I should have just told her to assemble them for me. WAS THIS NOT OBVIOUS?! Her reactive versus proactive solution was not the kind of service I expected from her shop, making this entire experience highly disappointing, VERY stressful, extremely frustrating and a complete waste of money (almost $2,000). To top it all off, I decided to hand deliver invitations to my immediate family at dinner, as their reactions to the invitations were the ONLY thing we had left in this horrendous ordeal. When my mother in-law opened up her invitation, she found 2 RSVP cards and NO Accommodations card. Once again, another display of total incompetence on the part of this business! I have used them twice. The first time was o.k. The second time was not acceptable. I ordered invitations and customized cocktail napkins. The invitations' proof took longer than expected. They said they sent it to my email address, but after three tries and no success, we opted to have them sent to my work email address. The spelling of the city was incorrect. I had emphasized the spelling during the ordering process (in person). They had to be redone. This was delaying my timeframe for sending the invitations, but I had little recourse. The day the revised invitation was due, they were having printer problems. This delayed it another day. The printer problems continued and they asked for another day. I was running short on time and asked if they had another option for situations like this b/c I needed to receive them and get them mailed. They did find a solution and delivered them to my house. (That was appreciated). The cocktail napkins I ordered took a very long time to arrive. I ended up having to delay my party due to a family medical situation. The napkins would not have arrived on time if the party had gone on as scheduled. When they did arrive - they were not as I ordered them. The color of the picture/image and the writing were not in the color I ordered. We spent a good deal of time determining which color and font were best for this. I'll be contacting them today about that. There isn't enough time to get them re-ordered before the party, so I will have to use them and will expect a refund. They were not cheap. (The first time I used them it was for cocktail napkins only. Those did arrive correct, but were smushed in a box and some of them were crumpled. They were usable but I expected more professional packaging. A minor point, but when you're paying for customized items versus store bought, you expect better). Like others, My fiance and I considered using an online service for our invitations and such but the quality simply wasn't there. We then went to The Write Image and they were absolutely awesome in helping us customize what we were looking for and had great recommendations that we didn't think of. Lastly, if we hadn't gone with someone who was local, very attentative and responsive, we would have been a huge pickle as we had some additional place cards that had to be made at the last second. I visited this shop yesterday for the first time. I found two unique gifts both under $20! Both were wrapped free of charge and look great! This is the type of little shop you need to hang out in for a bit in order to really see all the special items tucked here and there. I agree with one of the other reviewers regarding some high prices, but they are no different from other specialty gift shops, except I thought they had enough variety of items starting at the low end. Write Images was a lifesaver and I had the most beautiful invitations. After shopping around for what seemed forever I had fallen in love with a design by William Arthur, the only unfortunate thing...they were way over what I wanted to spend.I had finally convinced myself to go with another brand and Write Image had my new choice. I was not thrilled with the choice, but had come peace with the decision. WI carries William Arthur and I told the owner in passing my dream invitations were by that designer. Not wanting to see any of her brides settle, she went out of her way and took the time to pick out a very similar and quite frankly much more elegant design and suprised me with a call and email with my perfect new invitations! During this time, I often needed small, but unique gifts for friends and family. This is the very best place to choose wedding stationery and receive the very best service. They also have unique gifts. Judy and Karen are also friendly and knowledgeable. Write Image was a delight to work with for my daughter's wedding invitations and programs. Yes, they are expensive, but worth it and so much better than going on line if you want something special. At the Write Image you can go through many different books from different stationary companies, but the uniqueness does not stop there. Once you find something you like, you can usually change the color of the paper and ink, etc. and with a lot of help from the professionals at the shop. Kathy Misjan sent the order AFTER the proof was approved. Ours was perfect, but I have heard that sometimes you need a couple of proofs; that seems to be the case with a lot of companies. Don't approve the proof until it is exactly the way you want it! (Our Koosies (from another company) needed 7 proofs before they got it right.) They did not recommend a calligrapher, but we didn't ask for one since we already had one. Again, it is expensive, but what about a wedding isn't? I visited this shop today, after shopping there many times before. I ordered both of my children's birth announcements from this establishment! However, my experience today was awful! I selected several items to purchase, and the shop owner informed me that the price tag on one of the items was not correct. She then stated that the true price of the item was more than three times what it was marked. After informing me of this, she offered no compromise or opportunity for discussion. She said do you want it or not? She then proceeded to immediately change the subject by complementing me on my eyelashes and asked if they were real!! At this point I was very disgruntled! The shop owner was very rude! As a patron of her shop at least a few times every year over the past ten years, I felt that I deserved much more respect and consideration than what was offered to me. I will seriously consider EVER spending another dime in this shop again! My only regret is that I should have walked away from the purchase completely! read more
