This was my first foray into Indian cuisine. The restaurant is beautiful. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We were there for lunch on a holiday weekend but it wasn't too busy. I don't normally handle spicy too well, but these dishes were worth it. The butter chicken was so tender and flavorful. A little kick, but the Naan and cucumber yogurt helped. The vegetable dish was too spicy for me.. even with help. The lamb and rice dish was the mildest, and we were so impressed with how much lamb was in it. So first thing first, their food is decent depending on what you ordered. We got the papaya salad, definitely not my favorite, will not order again and do not recommend it, it has weird taste of red spicy sauce in the mix, just odd flavoring. The chicken curry (first one on the menu but forgot the name) was unique. Naan was good the pistachio has a bit of sweet taste just fyi. Interior decor is chic and cute, nice ambiance with a full bar. So why the low rating? Ohhhhh it's their service!!! The Indian man who I suspect is the manager or the owner because most of the workers seem to report to him, he took our order with absolutely no smile on his face, super strict and answer very impatiently. We were asking nicely which curry dish is the most popular one, he said they are basically all the same just pick one. I felt he was having a bad day and about to lash out some anger but holding it back or something, who knows. I was thinking like uhhhh well if that's how you are treating your customers no wonder your Yelp Reviews get lower and lower rating. Come on, if you want to open a restaurant you should know to greet your customers with some manner! Towards the end of our Sunday dinner since 8ish, almost every 5 minutes there is a different server coming over asking if we are done or if they can take my drink away. I only ordered one martini but it's a bigger glass so I've been sipping it as a dessert at the end while chatting with my girlfriend. We got asked and interrupted at least more than 5 times within matter of 10-15 minutes. It was so annoying that we felt they wanted us out of the restaurant so they can close, but it wasn't even 9pm yet and they close at 9:30pm. This is NOT good Indian food (maybe it is for folks that are not used to food authentic Indian flavors). I was very excited to try this place and it started off pretty good, the appetizers were flavorful and simple (it did take 25 mins for them to take our order and another 20-25 for us to get the apps). Since we were starving, I didn't get to take a pic of the apps. However, the main dishes (pictured) were all somewhat lacking in flavor and a bit sweet (why?), add the fact some had very small portions and it felt like a bad joke. The garlic naan was decent though. The dessert was just a bigger version of a regular gulab jamun, literally nothing special or noteworthy. The sad part was we waited 20 minutes for a server to take our order, and noticed they were standing on the side just conversing. Located at The District, Yellow Chilli is a good choice for delicious Indian food in a fancier environment. Everything my friend and I tried here tasted great. I especially enjoyed the crispy roasted gobi, which was crisp cauliflower in a spicy and sour sauce, and the makhanwala paneer, paneer in a creamy tomato sauce. The portion sizes are fairly generous, so one entree plus either naan or rice is enough per person. Only thing is the dishes don't come with rice so you gotta order that on top of the entrees, so the meal can get expensive. If you check in, you get a complimentary mocktail and their whole mocktail/cocktail menu is fantastic, so that's awesome. Only downside of this spot is its slow service. We felt we had to continuously ask several waiters for help when we got the wrong order and to get our bill. Dinner ended up taking about 2.5 hours. read more

I walked into this place solely on the basis of its smell. It just smells so good! I don't know if that's accidental or if they pump the curry smell out the front ventilation, but it sure does work. And so I got my favorite, kadai paneer, and it was good! Plus some butter naan and peshawari naan (although in retrospect I should have just stuck with butter naan, the sweetness of the peshawari naan was unnecessary in this case). This is a review in 2 parts, for the food and for the terrible delivery/customer service experience. The tldr is that the food's good, service is substandard. I'd been doing well on the eating healthy bit for a while, so I decided to treat myself with a couple of cheat meals worth of Indian food, and this was one of the more popular places I could find nearby. I ordered online, and picked up an order of the Chanajor Garam Tikki, the Murgh Survedaar, the Saag Chicken, the Meen Moilee, a mango lassi, naan, and a Peshawari naan. Peshawari naan was a standout for me. It offers so much flavor and it's hefty enough to be satisfying. One order of this would actually be fitting for a light meal on its own for me. Haven't seen this on offer anyhwere else, and it's something that I would consider a must have if you dine here. The Meen Moilee likewise, was very expertly spiced. Loved the flavors of everything in the curry. There wasn't a whole lot of fish in the order, though, so this isn't quite as easy to recommend. Murgh Survedaar was fine. There were more chunks of chicken in this than there was fish in the Meen Moilee, but it was also way less flavorful. It's also described on the menu as "spicy", and it wasn't anywhere close. I wouldn't even say it rose to the level of mild for me. The Chanajor Garam Tikki was also just fine. The spice crust adds interesting texture and a different flavor profile than a samosa, but the potato and cheese filling was super bland. Seems more like a conveyance for sauce than an actual appetizer, and it's not cheap enough to recommend springing for. Saag Chicken was also fine, but utterly indistinguishable from the same dish at like, Natraaj. The mango lassi was... nonexistent. This is part 2 of the review, the part where the experience goes down several notches. Either the delivery guy botched the order, or the waitstaff didn't make my lassi, but whatever the case, I didn't get a mango lassi in my order. So, I called to figure out what happened, and they said they were gonna go and check to make sure that my order hadn't been delivered. I ordered $110 in food. You think this was all part of my master plan to steal a $6 item? So, a bit stunned by this lack of trust, I asked what would happen if I had actually just not gotten my order. She said they'd refund me. Again, I'm stunned a bit. "That's it? You're not going to say, comp my delivery fee, seeing as how I didn't get my food delivered?" "No, we don't do that here." No apology for my order not being delivered, just thinly veiled distrust. No attempt to make things right with the customer. It's like they're operating under the "Make the Customer Regret Ever Ordering From Us" model of business. I understand that running a restaurant is tough work, and profit margins are slim, but there's both a "FREE DELIVERY OVER $70" coupon on the site, and a 15% off your first order coupon, neither of which I used, so I know they have the ability to take a little bit of a hit. I additionally ordered directly through their site, which saved them a cut from not having to pay for third party order processing. You'd think of all the customers they'd want to be cool to, I'd be the one. But no. They don't do that there. And so I won't be back. To make matters worse, I was told I'd get a call back in like 5-10 minutes once they verified that I hadn't gotten my lassi. They never called back, but they did process a refund. For $6. The lassi's not just $6. It's $6 plus tax. I guess they just felt entitled to keep the change. 4-star food, -1 star service. Edit: Wow. Look at that completely out of touch response from the manager. Go ahead and hope I'll be back. It ain't ever happening. read more

Food: we ordered 3 dishes: a basket of various naan, a lamb stew, and a biryani. All 3 dishes were very tasty. The 3 types of naan in the basket were all very good. The lamb stew had the right amount of spices and the meat was tender. The biryani was okay, but needed a bit more meat. Ours had more chicken bones than chicken meat, which was disappointing. Service: it was a mix bag. The servers were super nice and attentive. The wait staff was not as friendly though. The food turnaround time was much longer than expected. Ambiance: it's a dimly lit restaurant with tasteful decor. It can get quite loud in the restaurant because of the high ceilings and cement floors. Came in on Friday evening with my parents. Walked into great music and bar that set the ambiance. Ordered tea that came cold however it was taken care of upon being brought to their attention. Great service they're very attentive. Koran is the best, she was informative about the menu and brought us a beautifully decorated dessert to make up for the cold tea. We ordered garlic naan which was perfectly tender not too hard. Chicken tikka and mild tandoori chicken flavor was superb. Not too spicy perfect balance of savory. We just finished having dinner at the bar (Friday, February 2nd) and I had to make a review solely on the professionalism of our bartender, Danny. He was polite and knowledgeable, and he even made recommendations for us. He was an absolute rockstar since he was the only bartender on an extremely busy Friday night. There wasn't an empty seat in the house and he was cranking those drinks out! My partner and I each had the guava drink and the lychee drink and they were absolutely delicious. HOWEVER, our experience was hampered by the absolutely rude female servers. They were all hastling him the entire time we were there. Ladies, he's one human being making drinks for an entire restaurant, calm down and wait your turn! It's not like he was slowly making drinks, he was hauling ass. I was a server and bartender for 10 years, so I noticed how rude those severs were being, and Danny didn't let them get to him. It got ugly when one of the servers went behind the bar to yell at him for her drink! At first he tried to politely address her issue but she continued to yell. He finally had to remind her that there are guests in the restaurant and she needed to lower her voice. I was really put off by all the servers and it made me glad they weren't serving me. Even after that awful situation, Danny remained composed and continued to serve us in a kind and professional manner. While a lot of the menu feels familiar, there is a vast variety of other items in addition to the regular ole ones you might be used to - adventurous? This is how I found myself ordering the bread basket ($14.99): lachcha, garlic naan, perawari naan. These were fun on their own, but they came in clutch when I was mopping the last of my entrees. Not only are they extremely delicious, they were also extremely helpful especially when I was trying to reach into those teeny tiny corners. Per my waiter's suggestion, I ordered the chanajor Garamond tiki ($15.99) which are cheesy potato, patties coated with crushed spiced black gram. These were not overly cheesy by any means and were kind of a floof of potato - pleasantly surprising. I also ordered my favorite - tadka palak ($16.99): tempered spinach purée with paneer - basically palak paneer - and this was very delicious. The spinach was a little more dense than what I'm used to, but I kinda of liked eating it with the various breads and over rice - it has a nice, thick consistency. this place hits every single time. there is no dish i dislike. this was my second time coming to the yellow chili, and it was for a goodbye party for one of my coworkers. by the way, the restaurant will take a reservation of up to 10 people without you having to put your card down. we had to, because our reservation was for 20, but nonetheless, they had our table ready and the ambiance was clean and classy. we ended up getting a bunch of dishes to share, and i got the mango lassi for my drink, but everything was really flavorful and delicious. if you like indian food, this place is a 10/10. i highly suggest going with a big group so you can try a bunch of different dishes! read more

I have eaten at hundreds of Indian restaurants in the US and this was by far the worst. Took over 65 minutes for food to arrive at an empty restaurant on a Friday afternoon. I ordered the Adraki Paneer, which looked and tasted like gruel. My friends ordered the Mint chicken tikka, which looked horrendous. The paranthas were drenched in oil, and the naans were burnt. The saving grace was the dessert but it was overly sweet/hard, and stale. We were all bloated/sick for the rest of the day, despite having stomachs that can tolerate all kinds of spice. I am never going to step foot into a Sanjeev Kapoor restaurant again. Run of the mill no name Indian places are a bajillion times better. The prices are exorbitant too, $150 before tips for 3 people without alcohol. My pomegranate drink felt like someone poured in a bottle of pomegranate juice that was left open for weeks, and added some lime in it. read more

So, Yellow Chili, please add more servers when you are busy with large parties, and ask the large group to preorder food so that the kitchen is not impacted. We were able to adjust the spice which was great since we had kids with us too (and they gave them coloring pages to entertain them while we waited)! While the food was good, it did not particularly stand out given the higher price tag. The food was amazing! We had the savory samosas, chili garlic naan, butter chicken, and chai, all of which were delicious. In the past I have also had the desi manchow soup and I definitely recommend trying that. The issue we had was that the service was extremely slow and essentially no one checked in on us, or anyone around us, for extensive periods of time. There was a small event on the patio and I understand that events can slow things down in the kitchen, but our server never stopped by to say "Hey, the kitchen is a bit backed up sorry!". It wasn't just us either, the tables around us were all asking among themselves where the server was and what was going on. It took us 40 minutes from when sat down to receive our food and drinks. The people next to us waited about that long for their desserts. We (and people around us) had to ask the guy (who i think was the busser) for water refills and boxes because our server was nowhere to be found. I can't emphasize enough how little we saw our server and how long everything took. We ended up going to the counter to pay because we didn't want to wait 20 minutes for the check, and when we went to pay there were multiple people who worked there standing at the bar chatting. The server also rang up our card for the wrong bill and we had to wait even longer while she went to get help cancelling the payment. I really want to like this place; the food is good and the interior is beautiful, and I understand sometimes the kitchen gets backed up, but the way it was handled was unfortunate. They need to train their staff better and I think management needs to be more hands on and aware. read more

This is Indian celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor's restaurant chain. The decor and the ambience are very inviting. They have both indoor and outdoor seats. The service is very attentive and the servers are knowledgeable and make excellent recommendations for dish selection and modifications. The food itself is really good. Authentic with a twist. We had the Malai Kofta and Tariwali Delhi Chicken alongside the bread basket. Both the entrees were delicious and had a twist to the traditional Indian recipes. Then it was dessert time. They had jamoons listed in there. Jamoons are my favorite dessert and I thought, how could anyone mess up a jamoons!?! Well guess what? They sure did. Been to YC many times and have to say the food is always delicious - haven't been disappointed in any of their dishes yet My favs include the sea bass, the ginger cilantro paneer and the butter chicken. Portions are pretty generous IMHO so keep that in mind when ordering. The cocktails are also quite yummy and creative. Service has always been attentive but the timeliness can vary - I've come for lunch when they get us in and out in with no problem but also come for dinner when it seemed to drag a bit. Could be related to the covid-staffing issue that all restaurants are experiencing as when I visited pre-covid I never noticed a lag in service. Hard to know. My boyfriend and I dined at Yellow Chili for the second time yesterday evening and it was as amazing to be expected! We were seated very quickly upon walking in, just like we were our first visit. Service goes above and beyond, and they were very attentive to our requests. I'm not sure if the lady serving us was the owner or not, but she was so sweet and recommended a drink for my boyfriend that he really enjoyed. I believe it was the Ayurveda! We had to come back for the Desi Manchow soup, Pudina seekh, and the butter chicken with garlic naan is to die for! I had the Madras goat curry our first time--which was very tasty--but, I wanted to try something different this time around. We got the Tandoori sea bass and it did not disappoint. Overall, definitely a great spot to go on a date and we will be adding this place to our rotation. Please dont eat here on the weekend i think they are cranking out food too fast to keep up with the orders. Anyway my stomach has been killing me for 24 hrs, i think my food was undercooked. I needed to wait some times for the bad taste this place left in my mouth to subside before writing the review. Came here because we were told this is supposed to be the "Gordon Ramsey of Indian food". Gordon Ramsey would be appalled to be associated with this place. Terrible service from the moment we walked in. To be honest, we weren't even sure who our server was, as he/she never came by. We had to flag down just anyone there to get us drinks, food, and to get the G-darn outdoor heater to work. We stopped eating when one of the servers started cleaning the table next to us, and the cleaner product's trajectory was directly into our food. Wtf.... Food was okay at best. The Saag lacked favor. The butter chicken was slightly better, but still quite bland. Or maybe I just need to lower my expectation for Indian food outside of London. read more
