Randomly went for Happy hour on a Tuesday and ended up staying for HOURS! Cynthia (one of the managers) was so incredibly friendly and welcoming! She kept checking to make sure everything was good, offered suggestions and made sure I had an amazing time! She's an absolute star of the show! She recommended I stay for the trivia night which I never do but I stayed and it was so much fun! The weekday happy hour specials are great! The fact they're open late to is a huge plus! We have our Penn State TV Watch parties every football Saturday at Bar Louie. They've set aside a perfect area of the bar for our group. I've loved everything I've eaten there. The grilled tomato and cheese sandwich with a side of tasty tomato soup was great. Breakfast Louie is my favorite with perfectly made eggs over easy, and the best potatoes and toast. A nice assortment of appetizers are available, too. Service is very good and friendly. Unlike some bars, Bar Louis doesn't care if all our payments are individual. Kudos for that! I've walked and driven past this bar Louie countless times and finally decided to make my way in. From the outside it's giving taps brewhouse/Yardhouse vibes. Once you get inside it's a bit more confusing lol Firstly, you can tell that they were going for upscale steakhouse types of atmosphere, you have the tufted leather chairs with rivets, dark wood, and mood lighting but then you continue to look around and notice that some of the decor is extremely dated. They do have several TVs placed throughout the restaurant playing multiple sports games simultaneously. I will note that when it cuts to a commercial break, the volume is borderline unbearably loud. It would be nice if someone actually lowered the volume or adjusted the speakers to avoid this. The food itself was decent. The menu is not super large, but you've got your staples. Price point is a bit overpriced. The service was not bad, but not great lol. We arrived around 8 PM on a weekday and granted it wasn't very busy. We were seated right away and a server was with us immediately. We put in drink orders and food orders and both came out fairly quickly. About half an hour into our meal two large parties entered, and you could immediately tell that the staff was overwhelmed, the shift in service and how long it took to catch our waiter was immediate. Overall it's not a bad spot to have lunch or dinner but, definitely not a go to either. I would say it ranks below both yardhouse and Cheesecake Factory for the price point. We will try to catch their happy hour next time to see if that's the move! read more

Penn state football game viewing is now here. Early game and they opened early to accommodate us. Kitchen opens at 10. My wife and I had tasty brunch options. The baked egg dish and Louie breakfast. I went to Bar Louie on a Wed night because I wanted to watch the opening day of Football. Was able to find a seat pretty quickly at the bar which was great and it was still happy hour and wing Wednesday which was fantastic news because I was looking for some wings. Lots of tables were full and the bar was busy but I wouldn't say it was SO busy that the service should have been as poor as it was. I finally had to flag down a bartender because I easily sat there for 5 min without even being acknowledged or offered water or menus or anything. The guy finally comes over and basically tosses the menu at me. Then I waited another 5ish minutes before I flag down the bartender again to get in my drink order and ask for some water. Wasn't even asked if I would like to order food, just quickly asked for my card to put on file. Finally get my drink and was ready to order food but the bartender quickly ran away after he dropped off my drink. So then another few min goes by and I flag down another girl that's not on the side of the bar I'm sitting at to get in an order of wings. Food runner almost drops off my food at the wrong seats at the bar, but luckily I caught her and was able to get my lemon pepper wings which were actually delicious. Meanwhile I realize I was never even offered a place setting but started eating and eventually flagged down another bartender who was actually much more personable and awesome. She was very kind and quickly brought over my place setting and more napkins. I'm midway through my wings sitting with an empty martini glass in front of me for pretty long time and finally the other female bartender comes back and asks if I want anything else to drink so I order my second martini and it gets dropped off. I appreciate not being rushed since the football game was on, but having to flag down the bartender 95% of the time to get served is what I was not pleased with on this visit. It's never really been an issue in the past, so guessing the bar was having an off day, but definitely annoyed and makes me question if I want to return any time soon. read more

One of my favorite spots for comfort food! Bar Louie has become one of those places I keep coming back to especially for takeout. I've ordered from here quite a few times over the years. I've also dined in with my husband so I've had the chance to try a pretty good portion of the menu. There are so many things I love here so it's hard to narrow it down! The burgers are a MUST. The Mushroom Swiss Burger is one of my favorites & I get it medium well. I loved the BBQ Burger before the menu change & I'm definitely curious to try the new Chipotle BBQ Burger. The burgers are flavorful, filling & honestly hard to go wrong with. The Monterey Chicken is probably my #1 favorite entree. It comes with chicken breasts, caramelized mushrooms, artichoke hearts, roasted tomatoes, a lemon herb sauce, roasted baby potatoes & zucchini. The lemon herb sauce is SO good!! I seriously need the recipe! The whole dish is incredibly flavorful & filling. it's also great for sharing & I've had it with salmon substituted for the chicken which is another great option. The Parmesan Crusted Chicken is another favorite. Two chicken breasts with mozzarella, provolone, a garlic Parmesan panko crust, grape tomato bruschetta, roasted baby potatoes & zucchini. If you love cheesy, crispy chicken this is a satisfying meal. The Chicken Tenders with Hot Honey are another favorite of mine. The hot honey has that perfect sweet & spicy kick. I love pairing the chicken with some ranch. speaking of appetizers the Bruschetta is AMAZING. I've tried it several times since it was added to the menu. I honestly think it's the best bruschetta I've ever had. I could eat it constantly! The Spinach Artichoke Dip is so creamy & delicious. & the Chicken Quesadilla is a simple yet filling option. It has a generous amount of chicken & cheese which I really appreciate. The Pretzel Bites are great too & I was pleasantly surprised by the Cheese Curds. I've had a hard time finding cheese curds but I really love these & they are definitely worth trying. The fries & tater tots deserve a shoutout too. always taste fresh, crispy & flavorful. My toddler is a HUGE fan of the Mac & Cheese. She loves it & can't get enough! It's definitely toddler approved in our house. I also really enjoy the Flatbreads. The Margherita is my favorite but the Truffle Mushroom & Asparagus is delicious too. My absolute #1 is the Hot Honey & Bacon Flatbread. HANDS DOWN. This was actually one of my ultimate pregnancy cravings & I still love it just as much. The combination of sweet, savory, cheesy & the little spicy kick is SO good. The Beef Sliders are another great choice. the buns are delicious & the Bar Louie sauce makes them even better. I've also tried the Bacon Roasted Tomato Grilled Cheese which is such a good comfort food option as well as the Grilled Chicken Club. The lemon basil aioli on the chicken club is SO flavorful & really makes the sandwich. & I can't forget dessert! The Cinnamon Donut Holes are warm, sweet & delicious with the chocolate & caramel dipping sauces. Overall Bar Louie is one of those places where I know I can find something I'm going to enjoy. I've tried A LOT of their menu at this point & there are many things I order again & again. The portions are filling & there's a great variety. whether you're craving a burger, flatbread, comfort food, appetizers or something substantial there are plenty of options. A great spot for some pub food! Portions are huge and it's a great value! The chicken nachos were especially worth it at its price point. We got the mushroom Swiss burger and the Philly cheesesteak. While both were good, the Philly cheesesteak was especially yummy!! The variety of drinks was also expansive and both of the drinks we got were very refreshing with all the fried pub food. The only problem we had was that service was a bit on the slower end. We walked in as a group of 8 on a Sunday night. There were only 6 sets of silverware and it took a while for our table to get water even though the whole restaurant was not that busy. Ok, 3 stars for the restaurant but an extra star for our waiter who was freaking hysterical and made us laugh the entire time without being inappropriate or pushy!! So this was definitely a greasy over priced bar food type menu. Came here to grab a drink with a friend and had zero expectations to eat which was wise, because if you have celiac, you won't eat. Anything that could be made gluten free seemed a little bit high likelihood to be cross contact but our freaking awesome waiter knew exactly what could be altered to be "gluten free" so he may had been willing to work a little with the cross contact measures if I was legit hungry. Happy hour was limited on selection but the martinis were great for $10!! The patio was lovely and there was going to be live music which we missed but the warm up sounded great. I'd definitely go back for happy hour. We made a quick stop at Bar Louie before heading to the OC Fair. We had a group of 9 and were looking for somewhere that could seat us without a long wait, and Bar Louie was able to get us seated right away! Service was a little slow at first since there was only one waiter working on a Sunday, but once we got our orders in, the food came out pretty quickly. Easy to get a table on a Saturday. We came for drinks before going to Activate so can't review the food. The drinks were ok, as expected from a chain place like this. I had 3 of the same one, they were decent but not very consistent (even color between batches). For my 3rd one I had to specifically ask for the listed garnish, since for the 2nd the bar tender just didn't bother. Biggest reason this is a 3 star, is why keep the drink prices a mystery? Neither the website nor THE ACTUAL PHYSICAL MENU in the restaurant bothered to have any (they did list calories, since that's required for a chain of a certain size, but apparently not prices). Came to Bar Louie for dinner with my family. We ordered the Steak Frites, the Crispy Parmesan Chicken, Chicken Wings. It wasn't very busy since it was right after a holiday, but the food still took quite a while to come out. The steak came out more medium-well than medium--good portion size, but a bit tough for me. The Parmesan Crusted Chicken was flavorful, but not as crispy as I expected. The Wings Bone In were the highlight for me--really flavorful and crunchy. Went to go have some drinks with coworkers and ordered some food. Ordered probably around 5:30-5:45. I ordered wings and asked about them 2-3 times before 7:30 before I decided to cancel my order which the server didn't seem to care about. He told someone else at the table they accidentally gave my order to another table, but never mentioned that to the person who ordered them. At the end of the night he told us he wasn't charging us for the wings we never got. Thanks for not charging me for the food I never received! read more

We came here with some friends and were looking forward to some good food and a fun atmosphere... when we walked in the host took us to our table and then sat us without menus. There was a QR code on the table (that didn't work and said you had to access a Google Drive account to see it for some reason) and there was no silverware and napkins for us at the table either when we were seated. We sat around for about 15 minutes before we had to get up and ask someone if we had a server who was going to help us or if we ordered at the bar. The host we asked was different from the person who sat us, and this girl had an attitude about our question and said we sat at a table without being seated by the host. We explained to her that we had been seated by her co-worker and then she walked away and got us menus with an attitude. The server finally came and she apologized for the long delay a few times and then got our appetizer started and then took orders later. I ordered a beer, which sat for a while on the bar top after being ordered, and came warm, not once but twice (pretty disappointed in that). Overall, the service was not good at all and the food was very small portions for the cost (and frankly not very good or worth the money at all). If you're thinking about having some bar food, this place was comparable to a dive bar for food quality unfortunately. I expected more and they definitely fell short of what they appeared to be. It's safe to say that we won't be going back there for any other food or drinks in the future. Moral of the story on this one is to save your money and go to one of the other food places in the area. read more

I'm in town for work and wanted a place to catch a little MLB (even though my Padres are out of the mix ). Came with a few coworkers and we all had a great time. Our server (name to be added) was awesome -- super friendly and on point the whole night. They had burger specials today, and I went with the mushroom burger but swapped the chicken for need. Perfect size since I wasn't looking for a huge dinner. I subbed a Caesar salad for fries or tots... but next time, I'm definitely going tots. Came here to watch a basketball game with friends. My husband and I tried the drinks and small bites (trio dips and chips, truffle fries, mac and cheese). Our friends also got drinks and they tried the calamari, beef sliders, and chicken bacon avocado wrap. Overall we weren't impressed with the food. I enjoyed the mac and cheese flavor, but the cheese needed to be embedded more in the noodles as some bites were plain. The truffle fries were solid and came with truffle aioli and ketchup. What can I say. BAR FUCKING LOUIE is a good name. Catchy. And not just 'cus it's my name in the Caucasian version. I probably came to Bar Louie randomly throughout the years, mainly at this Tustin Legacy / District location, but once in Downey, CA after having dinner at Lazy Dog. I typically would only come here to drink -- not 'cus I was avoiding the food, but because I usually ended up here post-dinner and in goblin mode. The last couple of times I was there (Sunday and Monday), I finally spent a little more time and realized it's a really cool and chill spot. The food is actually not bad at all. I like places with happy hour and some deals, and Bar Louie delivers on that front. And honestly, I'll just leave it with this: I understand now why Bar Louie (at least this location in Tustin) has such a high rating, especially considering the high number of total reviews. I think it fairly deserves a 4.5 and would leave that exact score if Yelp actually allowed a more granular, detailed, and specific grading scale. I like keeping it real here. But the reason I'm rounding up is because of the customer service and hospitality I received nights in a row, back to back. Tony Z, the bartender in particular, was awesome and so much fun to talk to and order from. His partner in crime who was there was great too. I forget her name, but she referred to herself as a certified bigback -- which resonated with me and basically means we're probably related. Cheers. Came here for a happy hour with a medium size group 10+ and it was a great time. Called ahead of time to reserve a table. Easy to make the reservation and adjustments to add more people. Came at the reservation time and they had the table ready. Was able to sit down regardless of not having the full party there. Decent happy hour menu with some apps and drinks for cheap. You will need to park around the location but there is a lot of parking around the mall. We went for a work party. The happy hour was amazing. So many great items and larger in size. I think we easily ordered 1/2 of the HH options and all were tasty. Beers on tap were also on the HH menu. They took great care of us. We missed that they auto charged us a tip and tipped over the "pre-tip" but even with that due to the HH it was a great deal for all we got.
