Literally my favorite sandwich in the city. I don't care who you are. My go to is the cheese sandwich with or without avocado. The owners are so freindly its not uncommon to ask you how your days going. They're more know for their hot sandwiches, particulary the pastrami. Idk i love the cheese one. Something about that italian roll. Always fresh.

We all live in the yellow submarine... I can't seem to get that song out of my head... We stopped at the yellow submarine for lunch out of convenience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is clean, basic, and just okay.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered different sando's, but pretty much all had the same take away, feeling after being served, and trying to eat them. My steak and cheese was just OK. I found the sandwich to be very underwhelming, and lackluster at best. The one thing that the sandwich had going for it is the price point. It was reasonably priced, especially by San Francisco standards. The produce on the sandwich was lighter than expected, but it also just did not have that fresh taste to it. The meat should've had some sort of flavor and it didn't. The sandwich roll just wasn't good. I wanted that fresh pillowy experience, and instead it was bland and overly firm. Was it stale? I don't know. I just know it wasn't good.

Absolute must go! I wish we lived here so I could be a regular. The staff was so friendly and took the time to show me the difference between the two salami options. Absolutely loaded, massive sandwiches with super high quality bread. Pretty sure you can't order wrong here.

Well the good thing is I have always liked their steak and cheese sandwiches , their's is probably one of the best I'm pretty sure this is a family run business. I don't remember ever having their fries before but they were flat like chips, inconsistent thickness , they were not crisp at all and very greasy. They [[HIGHLIGHT]]Other thing that was a little alarming was the cleanliness of their front window and their sign out front above the restaurant can make your mind start to wander toward what care is taken to clean the restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]A little cleaning to improve their store front and perhaps upgrade on the fries might help improve business.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

My go to spot for huge subs! I've tried pretty much all of the different combinations and flavors of sandwiches. The sandwich that I typically stick with is their Italian combo. They pack it with a ton of meat and it's normally made very evenly so you get a good amount of ingredients in every bite. All of their sandwiches are made on the soft roll and it goes great with all the different combinations. You can also order their housemate chips, but I typically just go with bagged chips. The service there is amazing. I think it's run by just a small family. They are always super kind and polite and always giving you a smile when making your sandwich. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's also tables and chairs for you to sit in the back or you can just take it to go and the park is right there![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

So, went to UCSF to visit family, and walked my brother around for a while. Kept smelling this spot but didn't know what it was based off of all the other places I was walking by. When my mom got here I brought her here, and let's just say she fell in LOVE. The family I believe that owns this place makes fresh sourdough and as Monterey Bay Locals, we LOVE a good sourdough (esp w clam chowder). She said the bread alone was so bomb, she would go back to this place in a heart beat. She ate the whole damn sandwich. Don't sleep on this place, it's about 7 minute walk from Irving st exit of the UCSF parking garage if you're hungry and don't want Panda or Subway!

Yellow Submarine is a mom and pop sandwich shop that has been around since the late 1980s. The guy and lady are very kind people who love to stir up conversation while waiting for your meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is kind of cramped but do offer a sit down if you want to dine in but I didn't see any restrooms if you need one.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The other reviews mentioned that this place serves very generous portions and to be honest they didn't lie. I got a regular steak and cheese that seemed enough for two people if you are just moderately hungry. I also got their fresh cut potato chips which were not as crispy as I would have liked but I didn't have much room for the chips anyway after eating that entire sandwich. I do miss getting my teriyaki steak and cheese at another sandwich shop like this one on Ocean Ave that closed its business over a decade ago but I enjoyed the sandwich here as well. 3.7 stars for me.

Okay, look I'm a fourth-generation San Franciscan, and somehow I've only been to the Yellow Submarine like... twice in my whole life. Twice. I don't know what I was doing, but clearly I was living wrong. The folks working there (pretty sure they're the owners) are genuine, nice, and real, like the kind of people who've seen the city change 900 times and are still holding it down. The sandwiches? Bomb. The customer service? Bomb. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The whole vibe? Bomb bomb bomb[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you want some old-school, mom-and-pop energy the kind of spot that existed before tech bros discovered avocado toast ( I ordered the avacodo sandwich) get yourself over to Yellow Submarine. You will NOT be disappointed.

San Francisco old school cool. Love this spot.

If you know you know. The steak and cheese with everything is the way to go. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Hand cut fries, friendly service, and old school vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Been here since 1971 for a reason.

This is probably the only place where the sandwiches don't taste like the store's essence…read more I mean, don't get me wrong, a store's essence from any given deli/liquor store definitely adds unique character to the sandwich and sometimes I want that in a sandwich. But when you want a sandwich that only tastes like its ingredients, Irving Subs is the spot. Their Dutch crunch is famous for being fresh and actually crunchy. Their lettuce is shredded but fresh and crispy. The salt content is just enough to bring out the flavors. And the overall composition of their sandwiches are very well proportioned. You're not getting skimped, but you're also not biting into a mouthful of a packet of deli meat. They definitely know what they are doing. Double pastrami, horseradish, havarti, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles, and pepperoncini. A lot going on, and it all came together. The horseradish and havarti gave it enough personality to stand apart from a standard pastrami sandwich, and the garlicky mayo tied everything together. The one casualty of DoorDash was sogginess by the time it arrived. That's not a knock on the sandwich, it's just the reality of ordering something like this for delivery. At $14.50 it's a hearty sandwich at a fair price. I'd recommend it, but eat in.
