Wow! This is one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time and I eat a lot of sandwiches. Heard about Ocean Subs for quite some time now, and finally got to try them recently. Chef Lee O. is all smiles and tries to greet everyone upon walking in. His sandwich station is right in the heart of the shop. After sharing it was my 1st visit, he mentioned he grew up in the area, his vision for Ocean Subs, and a little about his background. I truly appreciate the "homey" vibes and how he greeted many regulars by first name. I decided to go for the Italian and had a few bites of the roast beef. Not sure how he curated the meats, but everything is fresh, yet flavorful. Bread had just the right texture and held the sandwiches nicely. Parking is challenging, utilizing the bus might be a better alternative. Regardless, I'll be back again soon. #14/2026

Stopped by Ocean Subs in SF and ordered the Atomic Sub on soft French with Swiss. It was loaded and super satisfying. The bread was soft but still held everything together, and the meats had that nice kick without being overwhelming. Also, their Tsunami sauce is sooo good--definitely ask for extra (like heavy extra lol). It really makes the sandwich. Super garlicky, lemony and tangy! Nothing fancy, just a really solid sandwich that hits when you're hungry. I'd definitely come back when I'm craving a classic sub.

Incredible sandwiches, excellent friendly service. Worth the hype 100%. Will be back.

Good sandwiches here. What took me here was I needed to deposit some money at the bank next door. The line was hella long at the bank on a Saturday. Luckily I didn't need to see a teller and used the ATM. With over 25 minutes left on my meter, I wanted to try Ocean Subs after seeing it on my feed for so long. They were open at 11am. My Original Sub $14 was excellent. There were a few people ahead of me and my sandwich was ready in 10 minutes. Good job Ocean Subs. What a good lunch.

I was craving a sandwich and wanted to try a new spot nearby, so I checked Yelp and stumbled across this place. We got there a little before closing on a Saturday and ordered the Atomic sandwich with pepper jack cheese. They were sadly out of Dutch crunch at the time so we went with soft French bread instead but honestly it still hit the spot. The sandwich overall was soooo good!! I was actually a little upset I had to share it with my husband... definitely should've ordered my own lol. Safe to say I've found my new go-to sandwich spot in the neighborhood. Can't wait to come back and try it with Dutch crunch next time!

Friendly owner and staff at Ocean Subs, who welcomed us in on a Friday around noon. It's a tiny spot with about 4-5 tables, so when we got there, it looked packed because almost all the tables were occupied! We sat down at an empty spot, and then orders were being fulfilled. After 2 groups left with their orders, the place was empty! Most people grabbed their sandwiches to go, but we decided to eat it there, while it was fresh! My guy and I wanted to split a sandwich to try. We got an Atomic Sandwich, which consists of ham, Italian salami, turkey, roast beef, and pepper jack cheese on a Dutch Crunch roll. We also wanted it toasted, too. The bread was crispy and so good! The meat was also cut thin and fluffed, so it wasn't dense. We enjoyed the refreshing, crisp shredded lettuce, the tart pepperoncini and pickles, spicy jalapenos, cool tomatoes, and tasty onions. It was a well-rounded sandwich! Their sandwiches are so reasonably priced (for an 8", a little under $14 w/tax!). You can even get a combo deal: sandwich, chips & soda for another $2.50! Honestly, you can't go wrong here: great sandwiches, great prices, and great service! 5 stars!

Finally came here! I've been wanting to try this spot since it was featured on Infatuation SF. I love hiking McLaren Park and this is a perfect pre or post hike spot. There are a few tables to eat inside. Service was speedy and friendly. They offer 4 sandos, however apparently they have a secret Sando I noticed on other Yelp reviews. I just got the Classic sandwich and it was great, perfect size. My sandwich included a lollipop which was a nice touch. Would recommend!

I first came to know about ocean subs during the Sunday streets event last year, but every time since that I've had the thought to swing by and grab a sandwich I would check and it'd be after their business hours. But on the way home the other day they were still open so I ran in to order takeout while my husband looked for parking to wait. It's a cute, clean shop and the staff working welcoming. The menus on Yelp were outdated, so I had to take a minute to recalibrate before placing our order. Once we got them home, we both unveiled the largest 8" subs I've ever seen in my life. Filled with meat and fresh veggies, I was pleasantly surprised. I had the atomic sub which I enjoyed and my husband built his own sandwich which he also liked. And both of us had to save the other half for later because they were so big. Would definitely recommend for a solid sub.

    Seafood Sub on a Friday
    Opie R.

I stopped by Ocean Subs on Friday to try their seafood sub and it was excellent. One thing that stood out right away was how perfectly the bread was toasted. Many sandwich shops either burn the bread or make it so crunchy that the sandwich falls apart when you take a bite. Here it was toasted just right--warm with a slight crisp but still soft enough to hold everything together. The shrimp and crab mixture had a small kick that added great flavor without being overpowering. I ordered mine plain without onions or peppers, and the sandwich still stood on its own in both taste and consistency. They also had a good balance of veggies to protein, making the sandwich satisfying without feeling overloaded--just enough to really hit the spot for lunch. The shop itself was clean and had a simple, welcoming neighborhood feel. Ocean Subs feels like a true old-fashioned neighborhood sandwich shop. No flashy website or delivery apps--just a local owner making good, honest sandwiches and serving the community one sub at a time. Definitely worth stopping in if you're in the area.

We wanted to try a new lunch spot and found this place a short trip away. It's a smallish shop but there's a lot of personality and character from the friendly folks inside. I ordered the Italian sub. The lady who took my order was patient and helpful. You take a seat if eating in, and they bring it out to your table. The sandwich had a good amount of salami and mortadella and veggies. Their sourdough wasn't too hard so the meat didn't shoot out the back when you bite it... my pet peeve! Great sandwich, great customer service. I'll be back!

So glad I finally went here. As an east coaster this reminded me the most of the Italian hoagies back east. The sandwiches were the perfect bread to fixins ratio. We got the original and the Italian on soft French and they were both knock outs. The service was super friendly and just a chill, dope sandwich spot.

Ocean avenue in San Francisco starts on Mission street and on Ocean avenue there is a place to grab sandwiches starting on Ocean avenue. This area has one of the best deli's and sandwich shop options to grab a sandwich within less than a 2 mile radius in San Francisco. Ocean Subs is the newest of the places to grab a delicious sandwich on Ocean avenue. I had to try their Atomic Sub which has different types of meats with cheese , lettuce, onions, and add the tsunami sauce and it hits deliciously different. Overall a must try if you are on Ocean street next to Mission street. I went to Ocean Subs and they bombed me with atomic flavors from their Atomic Sub sandwich with lots of different meats including Salami You should try Ocean Subs they have Tuna , Roast beef and also Pastrami and add the flavorful sauce they have called Tsunami

I had passed by it countless times on my bike ride to work without giving it a second thought -- until a co-worker suggested we stop in for lunch. That single visit changed everything. What I found was not just convenience, but quality. The menu was packed with deli classics, and the vibe was laid-back and welcoming, full of regulars who clearly knew this was the spot. I went with the Hot Pastrami Sandwich, and I still think about that first bite. Made with Boar's Head Top Round Pastrami -- hand-trimmed, rich, and smoky -- it was layered generously and coated with spices that hit all the right notes. The meat had that perfect deli texture, tender yet hearty.. They clearly take pride in what they serve, and it shows in every bite. It wasn't overloaded or sloppy -- just expertly made and full of flavor, the kind of sandwich that makes you slow down and savor it. What makes New College Hill Market even more special is the atmosphere. It's that kind of neighborhood shop where the cashier greets regulars by name, and even if you're new, you feel like you belong. Whether you're grabbing a quick lunch or discovering it for the first time, it's the kind of place that leaves an impression. For me, it's become a top lunch destination in the city -- unassuming, affordable, and blasting in flavors!

This is probably the only place where the sandwiches don't taste like the store's essence…read more I mean, don't get me wrong, a store's essence from any given deli/liquor store definitely adds unique character to the sandwich and sometimes I want that in a sandwich. But when you want a sandwich that only tastes like its ingredients, Irving Subs is the spot. Their Dutch crunch is famous for being fresh and actually crunchy. Their lettuce is shredded but fresh and crispy. The salt content is just enough to bring out the flavors. And the overall composition of their sandwiches are very well proportioned. You're not getting skimped, but you're also not biting into a mouthful of a packet of deli meat. They definitely know what they are doing. Service is good and ambiance is a small humble shop on the corner of 12th Ave.

Back then, there were sliced cucumbers in the sandwich. I finally returned again recently and tried the Giants sandwich (turkey, cheddar, thick cut bacon, avocado) and Goodfellas (salami, mild coppa, prosciutto, provolone, pesto sauce). The Goodfellas was a bit too salty with the meats + pesto sauce. I think more lettuce/tomatoes/red onions and slightly less meats would've helped balance it out better. I had requested extra red onions, but it looked like the same amount as the other sandwich we got with no extra onions. Also was not a big fan of their pesto. We both preferred the Giants, which was relatively more balanced, but it was still not a very exciting sandwich. The primary flavor was salt, with only a few bites of sourness from the pickles, yet it also gave the overall impression of blandness. The house garlicky mayo didn't have any noticeable garlicky-ness. I also couldn't taste any of the brown mustard or house vinaigrette. The Dutch crunch bread was quite dry and both thin and dense. It looked so good in the pics since it's so stacked with colorful ingredients, but it did not pull through in terms of flavor. Halfway through I was just eating it to fill my belly with sustenance rather than enjoying it (though I didn't hate it either). Prices still seem pretty reasonable for the portion size; that would probably be the main draw for me if I ever return again. Maybe I will give the November sandwich one more shot next time.
