Waitress says , "yours is up next, hopf it won't take too long ." Seriously. So almost over thIs. If I weren't with so many family I'd have already out on this place. Have come here for years with a variety of experiences but today is my breakup visit. Mother's Day Brunch was the biggest fail yet, we waited over an hour for our food and then we were not brought our orders. I was told my bacon "would be out soon" and my husband was left without food at all. After feeding my husband what I was served with we were informed his "salmon Benedict was served to someone else and it will be a long time to make another." The waitress literally said "do you want to order something that won't take so long?" An hour and TWENTY minutes after he ordered the salmon Benedict. I was never brought the bacon I ordered an hour an a half after we ordered, my husband didn't get his salmon Benedict at all. The food... the chef must not know how to season with actual herbs and spices because everything was WAY over salted. I was underwhelmed. We went for their Valentine's Day dinner. I asked if we could sit by the window, the host asked his manager and they said no. We had to make a reservation and besides a large party in the back and a smaller party in front there were only 6 others. It took over an hour to get our meal and it was cold. My BLT took the longest and the bacon was over done and inedible. We never got a refill on the drinks either. We were barely done eating and the waiter was there to pick up the check. $94 for a bowl of pasta, a taco appetizer, a BALT bacon, avocado, lettuce and tomato sandwich and a burger and the fries were so over done they tasted burnt and didn't even have the taste of potato. I thought I'd had the best burger of my life until packing up the salad I was too full to eat. I noticed something like pesto on a leaf and scraped it off. While checking the rest of the lettuce, I discovered that what looked like pesto was actually slimy green lettuce. The worst part was noticing the same lettuce on the burgerless bit of unbeaten bun. I showed the waitress, who was very compassionate and asked what she could do to maker it better? Would half off be good? I don't know--guess it depends on whether or not I get sick. Google says possible side effects from rotten lettuce are diarrhea, vomiting, and severe stomach cramps. Very disappointing. Mediocre food, bad service and expensive for what you got. We went (2 couples) for valentine's dinner; the food was mediocre at best; the service was very bad and expensive for the area. They had a limited valentine's menu which is fine, but you would think with a small menu they would have more time to better prepare better food. The shrimp pasta had no flavor and the crème Brule was cold, runny and not set at all. I told the waiter and he only laughed, said "ya ok" and walked away. He never apologized or offered to fix it. Every time a course came out, each of us was given the wrong plate and had to pass them amongst ourselves so we could get what we actually ordered. After this happened for the third time, the waiter just laughed and said, "it's funny now, right?"; at that point, it wasn't. When I got the bill, I was even more upset with how much it cost for such a bad meal and really bad service. read more

On December 18th my wife and I decided to celebrate our 30th Anniversary here. As always, the atmosphere was nice, the service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. We started with salads, the Brussels Sprouts Crispy fried with bacon, sesame seeds & a sweet chili glaze, could have made a meal out of these. I had the ribeye topped with garlic herb compound butter paired with mashed potatoes & grilled asparagus, excellent as always. My wife had the Idaho steelhead trout in a red pepper beurre blanc served with rosemary potatoes & sautéed veggies. She said this was so good and she raved about it for the next few days, she even said it was the biggest piece of trout she had ever ordered at a restaurant. Desert, me cheese cake, her Earl Grey creme brulee. Management went out of their way because it was our 30th and gave us a card signed by everyone and some flowers, nice touch. For those reading this, sorry for the long review but some restaurants just deserve it. read more

We had reservations for a birthday celebration and it took them 30 minutes just to take our first drink order. We all had empty glasses and some went straight to the bar as the service is shitty to be kind. Never come to this restaurant if you are in a slight hurry or want alcohol to drink. Two hours to get food once it was ordered and one of the menu items was the last one they had so those afterwards who wanted the roasted chicken had to choose something new. The "bar" area is a small bar counter with 5 stools. The "lounge" is a big open room and the loudest echo chamber to the point of annoying distraction. The "patio" is a few tables on the sidewalk in an area of empty storefronts. The staff, I found, to be mostly uninterested and unengaging. I don't even know where to begin, so let's start on the positive. The Moscow mule was very tasty. My husband was served a bottled (wtf!?!) Guinness without a glass. Asked for a glass. Big no no on a plate in a "fine dining" establishment. Moving on, husband ordered the short ribs and risotto. TERRIBLY under seasoned. Tasteless. Bland but above that the portion was absolutely ridiculous. I'll try to add photos if I can. $32 for literally 4 bites of meat and maybe a half cup of pasty, tasteless risotto. We are on our way to Taco Bell as I write this. As we are waiting for our entrees our waiter is TAKING SHOTS at a table behind us. I just....I can't even you guys. I got the salmon (which was obviously farmed and very over cooked) on top of tasteless pan fried gnocchi. But it was ok because they smothered the entire dish with straight from the bottle mustard. So, yeah. The portions are a joke, the price is astronomical, the service is awful. The menu is worded in a way to make the average person feel like they barely know what they're ordering. My husband wants me to add the beer selection is terrible. If you want to feel fancy in Pocatello and pay WAY too much for a terrible meal, by all means visit The Yellowstone. read more

We went to Yellowstone Restaurant while visiting family in town for Christmas, followed up with after dinner drinks at the 313 Whiskey Bar next door. I grew up in the IF/Poky area and now live in the NJ/NYC area, and It's nice to have a locally owned, upper-scale restaurant option in the area that is not a chain restaurant or typical diner food. Overall, the food was excellent and plentiful, the ambience was great, and the staff was very friendly and attentive. It's pricey for the area, menu & drink items were priced comparable to what we pay around NY/NJ, but food was similar quality to what we get back home. We didn't have reservations and had a party of six, but they told us another large party was just leaving, so if we wanted to wait a bit they would quickly turn the table around for us. We decided to order a few drinks in the bar area while we waited for a table in the dining room, though the bar area was nice and spacious and looked like a great place just to hang out. They were able to seat us after about 5 minutes. We started with the cheese plate, meat/cheese plate, and grilled asparagus (wrapped in bacon) for appetizers. Although both plates had cheese, the cheese selection on both plates was different and a good variety and the food overall was plentiful. We could've easily just had the small plates to share and that would've been enough. But, no, the dinner menu options looked too good, so we ordered dinner as well. We had the salmon, shrimp pasta, stir-fry and pork chop. The pork chop was very flavorful and moist. The waitress warned us that the shrimp pasta dish was spicy, and it was definitely "Idaho-spicy", but my husband, who is from California, considered it "flavorful." The waitress said that the stir fry could be made at any spice level as we'd like, so my aunt asked for it not too spicy, but again, it came out pretty spicy for her (not too spicy for other palates). Because it was taking my aunt a while to eat, the waitress could tell it was too spicy so offered to take it back and have the chef remake it. We declined, as it wasn't that bad, so instead she gave an unsolicited discount on the meal. I noticed a few other reviews commented on the spiciness of the food, but I think it's just what your used to, and the staff did seem to be aware of people's comments and I thought went out of their way to make sure we were enjoying our meal. We passed on dessert (by this time we definitely ate too much) and instead decided to go to the whiskey bar next door for a night cap. The ambiance in the bar next door was great as well, as they did a good job in restoring some of the old woodwork. I would definitely recommend The Yellowstone Hotel for a nice dinner or to just stop by for small plates while having a few cocktails. I'm surprised by some of the other negative reviews, because our experience was quite different, and similar to what we get in larger cities. It's great to see an old historic place renovated into something that is nice, and I hope it attracts enough business to the area to encourage renovation in other parts of old town Pocatello. I remember when I was younger this was a part of town we'd generally avoid, but now each year I come out to visit, it's nice to see more interesting places open up and this area of the town becoming a destination place. read more

I know it's Idaho, and I know it's Pocatello, but PLEASE have good vegetarian options! The black bean burger was undercooked and mushy, and also didn't taste very good. I think it's time to consider vegetarian options that are as good as your burgers/beef. Just because it's Pocatello doesn't mean you should have expectations that are lower than larger cities.
