Both Gregs went into business together when they opened a small bar in the East Village in 2011. The focus would be on delicious burgers and locally-produced craft beer. Initially dubbed "The Burger Shop", it was later renamed "The Village Joker", and then they finally settled on "Augurs Well" in 2013. Regardless of the name, the bar has earned a reputation for being one of the best craft beer and burger joints in New York City. Greg Sr. sadly passed away in 2021, not long after the Tribeca Tavern became a victim of the pandemic. Greg Jr. and his sister Angela opened Grand Eleven, a cocktail bar initially dreamed up by their late father, in 2023. I recently visited Augurs Well while I was in the Village to see a concert. I arrived a few hours before the show so I could grab some beers and bites beforehand. I had seen Augurs Well mentioned on several lists of great beer bars in NYC, so it was my first stop of the evening. The place was small, cozy and inviting. The draught list was very impressive! I first ordered a draught pour of Timber Ales' "The Offer" (Double IPA). It had lovely notes of citrus and tropical fruit. In addition to their signature burgers and beer selection, the bar also makes craft cocktails and offers sandwiches, wings, tacos, nachos, and other various bar bites. However, I only had eyes for a burger. I grabbed a seat at the bar, ordered the "Bacon Cheeseburger" (double cheeseburger topped w/ bacon, grilled onions, pickles, served w/ curly fries & chipotle sauce) and paired it with a draught pour of Grimm Artisanal Ales' "Maximum Happiness" (IPA). It was a match made in Heaven! The burger was so juicy and flavorful and the beer had lovely notes of berries and tropical fruit. If you're looking for some great craft beer bars in NYC then add Augurs Well to your list!

The space was quite crowded, but we managed to find two stools overlooking the street. They offer a selection of craft beers on tap, but not much darks to my husband's dismay. They did have an Old Fashioned for $14, which is pretty good in my book. As for the food, there's a good selection of munchies from tacos, burgers, and more bar finger foods. We ordered the 3 Cheese Sliders ($14) and Buffalo Wings ($14). Not gonna lie, but it's pretty pricey as you only get 6 wings, which makes it over $2 per wing. I was hoping they'd be some amazing wings, but they're pretty standard. I actually enjoyed the slider more, which were so tender and juicy between some fluffy buns. Good spot for a small bite with a cocktail or beer overall.

Fries nice and crispy as I requested.. I've been going to Corner Bistro for about 30 years.. the original Westside location.. Way back those things used to really hit. In terms of ambiance, the first thing we noticed was the music volume. It's blaring. A bouncer checked our IDs at the door before ushering us into a raucous bar area. Toward the back of the bar, we were greeted by a host and informed it'd be about a ten-minute wait for a table in the dining room. When a space opened up, we inquired if it would be possible to be seated at one of the empty outdoor tables we passed on our way in. Fortunately, it was a temperate late-spring evening; the sidewalk din and engaging people-watching were far superior to the cramped, noisy indoor seating options. We quickly placed our orders (after I ran inside to consult the menu posted there) for two bistro burgers and a side of fries. When our food arrived, we were a little baffled that only one of the burgers had bacon on it. No huge deal, there's plenty of pork to share, so we just divved the rashers up. Upon requesting some mayo for our fries, our server also realized that we were missing silverware and ketchup as well, which he remedied. Broadly, the food was pretty good. I think the burger was comparable to ones we've had at the West Village location, and I had no complaints about the fries. Upon obtaining our check, I validated that we had, in fact, ordered two bistro burgers and were charged for both. I was mildly irritated about it, but couldn't be bothered to ask for a correction, so we just paid and left. I hope that some of the operational hiccups we experienced are just a matter of staff inexperience and that, given time, this location will run as smoothly as its predecessor. That said, I don't anticipate making a return visit anytime soon.

Their specialty cocktails were interesting, but uneven (my friend enjoyed her 1st Marie Laveau, but the 2nd was made with orange juice instead of grapefruit and was too sweet). They advertise that their Hurricanes are made with Pat O'Brien's mix, which seems to me odd (and potentially illegal), but I'm not a big Hurricane fan, so didn't try one. It seems like a fun place with cool music and a cool, chill vibe. The food was unfortunately largely disappointing. You have to order at the bar (at least on a Wednesday night), which wasn't entirely clear. The service was slow and my gumbo came out lukewarm. It was also a bit of a mixed bag (my friend loved the mac 'n cheese), but on the whole more disappointing to me than the booze. It just feels like a place whose whole conception of the joys and nuance of cajun/creole cuisine is boiled down to "lets just throw a ton of hot sauce/ paprika on top of everything." Was on vacation in NYC this past weekend, walking back to the subway from a quick (and…read moredisappointing) visit to The Library dive bar in the East Village. On my way, just a couple doors down from The Library, decided to stop in and check out this spot after noticing the $10 frozen margaritas sign outside (several bars in the area offer this same deal). First thing I noticed was that this was a very clean, seemingly pretty new neighborhood bar, which is different than the somewhat dirty neighborhood (dive) bars I'm much more familiar with. Despite being a neighborhood bar, this spot isn't dive-ish at all. Is your typical Irish bar and seems to be a decent place to watch sports. Sat down at around 4 pm on a Saturday afternoon, only a handful of people in the bar at the time. Ordered the $10 frozen margarita. The young lady tending the bar was nice and very attentive. The $10 margarita ended up being smaller than I expected it was gonna be, though I guess you get what you pay for. Was a pretty good margarita, though nothing special. Would get it again. Had stopped in just for the drink so didn't try anything else. In looking at the menu, the spot offers happy hours and weekend bottomless brunch deals. The pricing seemed to be on par with other bars in the area - not cheap though not expensive either. If I'd been hungry I would've tried their "twice-fried" chicken wings, which to me was the most interesting thing on the menu. If I'm back in the East Village and have time I'll probably check them out again.
