I've been here a couple times before and apparently never written a review. We went back yesterday midday to enjoy a post quarantine drink out. The owner KJ has been working on his patio and it's a great space to hang. Super large space with lots of seating and a nice privacy wall so you aren't staring at the building/parking lot next door. There is also lots of shade covering and some existing fire pits for those chilly evenings. The inside looks updated but you can't sit inside for now due to social distancing. My group tried a total of four drinks and I sampled three of the four. All were delicious! I had a couple BRB's because bourbon is mostly my thing. Smooth and tasty with a nice scent of orange peel on the noise. Yum The Upside Down Pineapple was delicious, so if you are a rum drinker, you'll like this one. The Strawberry Balsamic was slightly tart but overall nice flavor and a good go-to summer cocktail. The prices are definitely cheaper than some of the other midtown cocktail bars you'll hit up, so that's a bonus too! I will definitely be back to enjoy my well priced cocktail in an awesome outdoor space with a relaxed vibe. read more

It's been years since I last had a cocktail at Z Bar. This place was raging on a Saturday night in midtown in February. We attended a Yelp Event downtown at the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra and also a tequila tasting at 10 State Street prior, so we figured we should stick with tequila and check out Z's options. There we bellied up to the bar, sipped tequila, laughed about stupid stuff, and watched people. Came here this past week for another whiskey Wednesday, Z the same bartender gave us consistent service. My roommate and I tried this top shelf Japanese whiskey they have in the top left hand corner when you're sitting at the bar (50% off on Wednesdays!) There's this rice based whiskey we tried and another more fancy whiskey (see pics) on the rocks, both were super tasty (the super pricey one was $6, 50% off) The bartender knew his stuff! Finally had a chance to go by Z Bar for a drink and it was a solid experience. They have a great back patio to enjoy the weather and it is a nice, quiet and laid back spot. We went inside and ordered up a couple dealers choice options. The listed cocktails sounded fun but there is something about trusting a bartender create a drink. We ordered one drink in the rum with a sweet flavor realm and one with a whiskey and fruit combo. The whiskey drink was incredible, full of flavor and was something I would happily order again. The rum drink ended up being more along the rum and lime than the desired drink but was still delicious. Plus, it is hard to say no to a $9 good cocktail in the world of overpriced $13-$15 cocktails at bars near Z Bar. We will be more than happy to go back and try some other drinks on a future night out. read more

This time Z represents a possible ending to my current favorite cocktail bar in Reno. This time Z held the last place in the order of our evening because we were pleasantly done for the evening. This time Z is a rarity because not many bars in Reno are just this awesome. Walking in you see the quality ingredients right in front of you. No need to question if they are doing things the "right" way. This time Z helped me sleep like a baby that night. We had a number of cocktails off the menu and non disappointed. My favorite was one with jalapeno or maybe it was the 1944 Mai Tai or maybe it was the different mules they had or that awesome bloody mary? Anyway the drinks were outstanding and the service was fast and friendly. We even had a little personal hiccup and they were right there to help out! The bar really is nicely decorated and appointed. Stone tile floors and it's clean everywhere! Even the outside on the patio was nice and clean. A few pointers...the patio can get hot. Since my first review-that was rather short- I feel the need to update Don't judge a book by its cover I did and I was so wrong. The Z isn't a little dive bar any longer. KJ has worked hard and takes a lot of pride in having cleaning this place up. Making the patio a great outdoor space to hang out on all summer. He's there with a smile and always ready to mix you a fabulous fresh drink. You would be hard pressed to not find a drink you would enjoy. Pretty chill fun bar! It's a small spot but there was enough seating and they had giant Jenga inside. We tried one of their cocktails and it was delicious! Don't be fooled from the way it looks on the outside, Z Bar in Midtown Reno is such a charm on the inside (back patio). They have delicious cocktails and great music any day of the week. They make a few specialty cocktails and don't disappoint downside is there's a few different mixologists and therefore the drinks aren't always exactly the same every time but can also be a good thing depending on how you like them made. Not too much seating inside but mostly bar seating a cool little second floor den area. Recently they expanded their outdoor back patio area and is quite large now and very spacious with 7 fire pits and ample seating for id say around 40-50. Plus a spot for bands to setup an play an a mini bar when open. Downside nothing to munch on available but there is a pretty good pizza place pizzava about a hundred yards away. Everyone (almost) in Midtown has a bowl of mixed citrus fruit on the bar, large cylinder ice and strappy bow-tied, tattooed, bearded bartenders with $10 fancy cocktails.... But not everyone has a beautiful chilled prep bar of raspberries, watermelon, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, pear tomatoes, lychee, basil, thyme, juniper berries (I think that's what they were) and more! And FRIENDLY bartenders. And a good mix of music (that you can actually hear). And a fire pit! And chairs that aren't backless stools / benches... Clean, multi stall bathroom (hey, Friday nights get crazy and that's a consideration) I like my drinking outtings to be an experience so all of these elements are important to me. This was our third watering hole for the evening (my first time here) and what a stark difference between the other 2. I had the RC (raspberry pureè, fresh cucumber, mint, lemon, vodka). (It comes with housemade simple syrup but I opted out of that part). It was a nice, fresh taste of summer! Beautifully presented and each flavor worked together nicely. We enjoyed chatting on the patio at the fire pit, remarking at the nice mix of music played and engaging in the late night people watching.
