THEARC (pronounced "the Arc") is a community and arts center in Ward 8 and it's nice! It comes with a large parking lot and two buildings with large rooms, meeting spaces, and a great theater. The theater often hosts free events for the community and even bring in catered food (Recently, they hosted a "Women in the Arts" series at the theater with BBQ and cookies!). Even if you're not in Ward 8, it's a great community center!

This theater was so very comfortable & inviting. We were so delighted to see this great performance by Step Afrika. They were simply phenomenal. The theatre must have a food concession stand in the near future. I'm hearing that there are plans to have food stands implemented. I cannot wait because I certainly intend to return for more activities here & would not wish to starve while seeing great performances like I did.

It's all about encapsulating you into the experience.....And, this venue does just that!…read more The Theater at MGM National Harbor -- delivered on a first rate show and experience for some friends and I. Lucky me, a friend who works for WKYS (93.9 FM) scored a couple of tickets to the....Mary J Blige / Lalah Hathaway Concert and treated us to the show. And, wow!...All I can say is...that it was an incredible show and perfect mid-week treat indeed. This venue was the perfect setting for completly two different artist and shows all rolled into one. Once inside the theater, it is clear to me there is not one bad seat in the house. The design of the venue offered the best views of both performers from all angles, based on where we were seated. THE PERFECT SEAT The intimacy of this venue is what make it special. This is what helps this theater set itself apart from other venues. The layout of the seating gave us the perfect view to the performers. The seating and floor plan range from floor seating, mid-tier level, VIP seating boxes and balcony view seating. Personally speaking the mid-tier (Orchestra) level seating is the best seating in the house! The view was incredible from all angles, without being cramped by floor seating crowd and/or feeling too far away in the upper-tier/balcony seating. Part of our group that went to this concert was sitting in the balcony. During the intermission, I had a chance to see their seating and the angle/view was good....but not the best. THE SUITE LIFE Instead of the regular seating, you can step it up to the VIP suites. The Theater at MGM National Harbor houses seven VIP suites where guests can enjoy the view from private boxes and can have access to an private entrance, VIP-only full-service bar and catering offerings. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to experience it myself...lol....but I am sure it will allow for the complete experience and convenience of food/drink runs during a show. TO SUM IT ALL UP In all, I was impress with "The Theater!" From the show experience to theater's design is all-inclusive. The lightning and acoustics was perfect too. The layout wraps you around the main focal point...which is the artist. The sightlines from where I was sitting...to walking the floor...to hanging with friends in the balcony were equally all good in my book. I definitely will be checking out more events at this venue! TIPS 1) The mid-tier (Orchestra Seating) - Section 103 are the best seats in the house! You can see everything from this section and worth every penny. Trust me, you'll thank me later! 2) The lines for the bar can get very long on the main level. Go to the bar on the balcony level...there was little to no lines or long waits. 3) Make it a dinner-show thang. Before and after the event, the food courts and restaurants were still open which was make it perfect enjoy your night and the complete experience all in on place...and not have to go anywhere else for eats or drinks.

Thanks Yelp for the complimentary tickets and experience! A great time shared with my friends…read moreindeed. This is my second year winning tickets to this event and I must say it's getting bigger...and better each year! The Broccoli City Festival is a annual event, in its fourth installment, that is centered around all things encompassing green and clean living promotion. It is a festival that uses music and the arts, as its platform to engage, encourage and educate young urban millennials on healthy eating and environmental sustainability. The concept is hip and an ingenious way to attract and promote the "green initiatives" to urban youth who in some cases may have never even seen a farm, know the origins of foods they eat to actually seeing fruit growing on a tree.....and yet alone have not realize the importance of concepts like recycling beyond an aluminum can or paper cup. The festival is an all outdoors event. Even though it was a cloudy-dreary day, the vibe and energy was still high. From the corporate sponsor tables to the local vendor food/products...everything was appealing. I particularly enjoyed learning all that Toyota was doing under the "green initiative" umbrella...to winning a case of the new '1898' all-natural soda products from the Pepsi table. Look out for this product folks. It is an amazing, tasty new line of all-natural cola drinks from Pepsi that's soon to hit local stores everywhere as I was told by the Pepsi rep. I even was lucky enough to score a free Under Armour "Go Green" t-shirt which I am sure to rock in the gym this week. The crowd varied in age. From the 'Tweens' to the 'In Betweens'....to 'Seens!' Everyone was under one roof having a good time it seems. I was able to see a couple of the local acts, but was not able to stay into the late evening for the main acts. I wish I had more time because it really was a cool, worthwhile event. The main acts included: Future, Jhene Aiko and The Internet....all big hitters in the millennials music space right now. As for the food, there were many local vendors and popular food trucks that everyone know in DC to choose from (i.e. Puddin', Loco Moco Tex-Mex, Kabobs, and Ragin' Cajun). I will admit the lines were too long (over 30-45min. waits I heard)....so for me...I choose to wait til later, after the event to grab a bite. The music vibe was the best. From local artist performing, to DJ's spinning...and a great highlight of watching a local painter create a live art "Prince R.I.P." mural in front us....it was amazing. In all, a great event for sure! Although it was a bit unorganized initially at will-call to get in, I am a fan of this event and the green initiative it sets forth to cultivate living a healthier lifestyle within the DC community....particularly low-income communities, like the southeast (SE) section of DC that oftentimes don't have a large number of healthy eating outlets, grocery chains like Wholefoods, and Mom's Organic readily-accessible to them to choose or afford everyday as a healthier path of living. Music is one of the most powerful conduits and ways to bring people together. The combination of live music, live art, and vegan/vegetarian food vendors was evidence that the Broccoli City Festival is onto something. Thanks Yelp!... and DC's CM Kimberly S. for the experience and allowing me to be a part of the event. Look forward to next year!

The Management/Food/Wait: This event was very poorly…read moreorganized. I will not be attending the next one. I showed up with my friends and followed the crowd to a mob of people. Going to festivals before, we were pretty familiar with this process. However, there was no one around to help direct people if you needed it. We waited for 2 hours in the mob and in that span 2 people passed out and someone peed in the crowd. Once they started letting people through, the stampede started. People pushed to the front and there wasn't any security to control the numbers. Then the fence was peeled open and everyone started running like zombies! No tickets were scanned, the staff just stood there horrified as everyone just ran through pushing and shoving each other. Once we got in, there was another 2 hour wait for mediocre food. Lines were also poorly maintained for food, you couldn't tell who was in line for what. There was trash everywhere. The mic for migos went out. It reminded me of a bootleg Coachella. It was clear that this event was just to make money, there was nothing about the cause in sustainability. Everything was poorly executed. The only thing successful they did was tricking 3 artist to perform at it.
