All this while simultaneously forgetting the sauce for the salmon which also took another 10 min to bring out. The salmon was so dry it was tacky and stuck to your teeth. If you know the feeling you know it's bad. The rice that came underneath the salmon was crunchy and way undercooked. All while the waiter was like oh I can bring you free deserts for your wait all while I could only think about how I just wanted to leave. I was internally livid and exhausted but kept it to my self after seeing the owner or manager who we the guy with the white hair over at the bar enjoying a few alcoholic beverages meanwhile his restaurants service and waitstaff to the worst possible job they can. I saw the people who got the most attention and good service were all regulars sitting at the bar laughing it up with the manager/owner older guy. Why not make sure your restaurant is running smoothly and food is being delivered and prepared properly and stop trying to impress the regulars who most likely will show up either way. Any restaurant that is this unorganized and unmotivated is due to crappy management. All this and the waiter is like I'll comp you for the steak sandwich with a discount for the bad service and salmon which was a whopping $5. I don't want a discount I don't want free day old desserts I want good service and decent food. Discounts and free desserts will never fix the problem because it will always be a crutch for trashy customer service. How about stop drinking with the guests and whoop that staff into semi decent shape buy some high chairs and make sure your expo does a once over quality check on the food and time it takes to get to the table EVEN if that means stepping in and doing it yourself. The restaurant is dark the tables are sticky the whole place is very compact . Perfect and quite attractive after 5-6 wines for sure. I'm sure the food is outstanding after a few drinks as well . They gave us a $25 dollar gift card to return which if I could I'd give to the owner so he could experience the same horrible food and service we did. I wouldn't even give the gift card to someone I hated. This was one of the first times in a long time I didn't just let it slide because I understand all restaurants and people have bad days but this was exceptionally bad. If you are thinking it can't be that bad think again it absolutely can. The whole "I'm sorry we usually have awesome service and everyone loves our food it's probably just me and my family " is laughable . This isn't my first time here while visiting El Paso. It has that trucker, small town American diner ambiance. The food was delicious! I want to visit here again next Saturday and try a different breakfast plate. First off, I've been wanting good hash browns that don't seem like frozen or bought pre-prepped and these hit the spot! They're unique also. Never had this style. The potato slivers were really thick so really tasty. It was toasty and soft, so perfect texture. I just wish it was seasoned. I understand why it may not be but it would've made it perfect. I came originally to order the ham steak but I saw home made hot Italian sausage and I had to try it. I'm so glad I did. It was delicious! So tasty! It's going to be hard not ordering that on my next visit. I didn't care for the Apple Cobbler. It was just a mini apple pie. I mean if that's what you want go for it. It tasted good. But my Spanish is not good and they spoke no English. So of course I ordered the daily lunch special with horchata (the Yelp spellcheck wants me to change this to "orchard") to drink and hoped for the best. A sense of adventure is a good thing to have, even when dining. The horchata was fine. My lunch special began with a small bowl of soup. It had a tasty clear broth, cabbage, onions, carrots and garlic and was largely flavored by a sizeable hunk of pork, skin-on. I did not eat the pork (I'm not sure if I was supposed to or not) but I enjoyed the rest of the soup. Next came the entree which was a nice platter of rice, beans (which had a nice smoky flavor) and roasted pieces of pork with lots of squash and other veggies. Again, I'm not sure what part of the pig I was eating but it had a rich, smoky taste and was very tender. Bottom line is I would visit 4 x 4 again, but perhaps with a friend that was bilingual. As for the 4 x 4 reference? There was the front end of some 4 x 4 sticking out of the wall...
