Shark in the Water surf metal band put on an awesome show this past weekend, and we had a lot of fun at Thee Parkside. Dark interior, typical dive bar atmosphere, large covered patio in the back where they serve food, with plenty of tables and seating. There were a few counter stools inside where the stage is set up for live music events. They only accept cash at the bar, but they have ATM's on site. We had a few drinks, a couple beers, standard cocktail, and the John Daly (fizzy) which was quite good with a nice sweetness to it. The place got packed later into the evening, but the crowd was just the right amount of crazy, and we had a good time. I also appreciated that there wasn't a long wait for the restrooms like at some other nightclubs and bars. I heard this place is closing down soon. Glad I got to experience it at least once, especially with the shark-themed musical performance setting the mood for the night. read more

I used to come here when I lived in Potrero Hill: it's a great bar and the outside area is nice for a sunny day (of which there are many in Potrero). The food is quite good, especially when you take into account it's a bar. The fried chicken sandwich is tasty, the tots and fries are fresh and hot. They also do live music here, which is fun. No wait, pretty empty patio on a Saturday around 1pm. Cash only. Parking very easy. The patio is sunny but is covered by frosted plastic so it's bright but you don't get too hot. Patio is family friendly as well. Lots of stickers all over the place, including inside the toilet cover! Fair warning, some of these stickers are the only non-family-friendly parts of the patio. Tater tots - 3.5 stars. Good but nothing special. Has a thick crisp. Fries - 4 stars, subtle crisp yet soft the middle, great seasoning. I came back to have lunch here, I needed to fulfill a craving for a bar burger. I did ask the staff if they'd recommend that or the drunk pollo sandwich which also sounded good, and they said go with the burger. They're cash only and the menu seems to reflect the total price which is nice. Not sure if it's today or everyday but it seems like there's just one person manning the food side but I got my food in less than the time quoted (15 minutes). I was in no rush and enjoying a drink so that was fine. The food was fresh and hot and I dug into the fries first which were crispy and nicely salted. The burger patty was much thicker than I was expecting and everything tasted delicious. I'd describe this spot as a dive bar but the patio is nice and bright with lots of picnic table seating. I can't speak to what the evenings look like but it's a chill spot to grab food or a drink during the afternoon. read more

No frills dive bar - we popped by one random Tuesday evening and they were serving happy hour drinks. There's a decent selection of beers, cider and kombucha on tap which is pretty nice since most places don't really offer cider or kombucha draft. There's a small kitchen out back serving many greasy items to help with the drinking and the loaded carne asada tots were very satisfying. The fries were pretty good too which we ordered for the non-meat eaters. For a random Tuesday they were pretty busy and I can see this spot being a great neighborhood place to pop by for evening drinks. I love this venue so much. I found out about it after attending PolaCon here last year, right as the pandemic was hitting. The staff is great, the food is amazing and it's such a great place to meet up with people. I also love the fact that they have a working photobooth, 4 shots for $5. The back patio area is pretty spacious, with a lot of benches and tables. I dropped by today for a photo meet up, and I had ordered the carne Asada tator tots. I gotta say, they were super tasty. I live in the neighborhood so thought I'd pop by Thee Parkside with a friend one day and check out the food and happy hour. The food is usual pub fare and we ordered a side of tots (very large portion) and a friend chicken sandwich with fries. Happy hour goes until 7 and the Gin Paloma was my drink of choice. It was honestly a steal for $8 for happy hour pricing and I ended up getting two (drinks were strong too!) I had a great experience eating and hanging out at Thee Parkside for happy hour, I'd absolutely recommend checking it out! Tater tots - 5/5 sooooo crispy. I always look for that crunch when I'm eating fries, tater tots, etc and the tots at Parkside were not only crispy, they had a perfect fluff on the inside as well. The seasoning was on point, with a balance of salt and Cajun style powder and it was extremely tasty. Fried chicken sandwich - 5/5 also soooooooo good. Sandwich was crispy and the buffalo flavor wasn't overbearing like some buffalo wings can be with the blue cheese, etc. it was a great accompaniment with the already delicious chicken. read more

This place is amazing! It's a tiny venue with where you can get up close and personal with the band. They also have a kitchen and they do other events here as well. The show I went to wasn't sold out so there was plenty of room to dance and move around. There's also lots of street parking which is always a bonus in SF. Make sure to check the signs for street sweeping. It's one of the most intimate venues I've been to in a long time. It's always a great time coming together to see bands. read more

Came to Parkside to get some lunch to-go and ordered the Mochiko chicken. Now I know this isn't a spot in Hawaii so I'm not expecting this to be fully authentic. However this Mochiko chicken isn't Mochiko chicken. The chicken should be of a batter but it seems to have been coated in panko bread crumbs instead. Was it tasty, yeah. But not what I was expecting. The Mac salad was ehh. I ordered with a side of rice, came with rice & tots which wasn't the worse thing. The person I came with ordered the carne asada tots. They said they really liked it. Walked by on a Saturday, and my friend and I decided to check it out. Parkside is a dive bar without the drawbacks of a dive bar. It's clean, including the restrooms, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, good food, and quality drinks. Even though the drink prices here are extremely economical for SF, it doesn't skimp on quality. I had probably one of the best margaritas on the west coast here, and I watched the friendly bartender mix up straight lime juice, a dash of agave syrup, and plenty of tequila and triple sec. I absolutely hate sweet and sour mix, and my face puckered with tart delight when I tasted it. They also have plenty of ciders, which is sometimes hard to find in dive bars. Two drinks never cost me more than $20, which I can't recall the last time I was able to say that in this part of town. Friend and I stayed for the live music, which was a nice plus, and their patio is pretty sizeable. The food menu looked awesome, and I admired being able to see all the prep being done in the kitchen. They were out of fries when I tried to order, but watching the staff prep fresh burgers by hand really made me want one! I love how simple, friendly, and neighborly Parkside is. I felt welcome and comfortable which isn't often something I say at dive bars. We also got the chicken sandwich which was one of the best we have had anywhere. Service was fine for a week day night. They do offer happy hour deals. Well. Let's start to main point. I love the seating in the back. In sunny day where you can basically grab quick bite, cheap drinks and soak some sun. That is awesome no one can argue with that. Today I had Bloody Mary which sooooo good $7 in happy hour THUMB UP! And I got pulled pork sandwich for lunch. Very very happy. Let's see what are the cons.. 1) dirty lol. Bathroom pretty much close to the word nightmare 2) bartender can be very cool or very rude. Your luck. 3) parking is ridiculous Overall I like this place. I have been going there for couple years. All lunch time. I always order their salad and my friend always get their burgers. We always happy about our food. It is order and go seat yourself kinda place so if you need a quick short lunch. A bunch of my family met up here on a Sunday night to meet our cousin from Japan that was on tour playing this venue with his punk rock band. They were great & intense & the crowd enjoyed it. Intimate venue with a great vibe...cash only...easy street parking. Limited menu but their carne asada tater tots are on point!! And I was still able to get red wine too Nice patio area. One of my fav lunch spots! $9 for carne asada tater tots, and it's only $3 more to get a beer with that meal! Tater tots are perfectly crispy, with a healthy portion of cilantro-y guac on the top. Sure, Parkside has great breakfast burritos, perfect margaritas, and a sweet patio. But what really sets this place apart is the people. From the owner, to the bar and kitchen staff, to the patrons (especially the dogs!), these lovely folks really make the place feel like home away from home. I sure do miss getting sweaty at Parkside shows. Can't wait 'til COVID becomes NO-VID and we can commence partying once again! I popped into Thee Parkside to catch a quick bite before an event at neighboring Big Daddy's Antiques. I had no clue that Chef Josie Malave was in the midst of a 3-month run of her Pop-Up restaurant Global Soul Corner. But when I popped my head into the kitchen, there she was, Chef Josie the opinionated chef I was rooting for on the current season of "Top Chef". My friend and I decided to "tuck" in and see what Chef Josie had to offer. I opted to try one of their ridiculous burgers (with BBQ and corn-battered bacon on top) with fries. My friend went for the daily special, which was a sope with pork belly. After a bit of pondering, he also ordered the mac and cheese (with bacon!). My first disappointment was they were out of tater tots. When given the option, I will almost always pick them over fries. The fries were pretty good, so I think I missed out. Boo. My second disappointment was I couldn't begin to get all of my burger in my mouth. Chef Josie, if you are going to pile something with deliciousness, please make sure it can all be tasted at once for the maximal eating experience. My last disappointment was my friend hated his food. His beer clashed with the mac and cheese (entirely our fault), and the tortilla part of his sope was leathery (all theirs). I didn't try it myself, but I have no reason to doubt him. I know he liked the pork belly part of it, and I know he wasn't scarred for life because he ended up buying their spice mix. I have dinged a lot of places for inconsistencies in the kitchen, so I can't make an exception here. I will say I never have high expectations for the food I eat at dive bars, so anything that is different is a welcomed surprise. I have a lot of respect for what those chefs go through and Chef Josie is on for a second time. I'm going to try things out there at least one more time, and I will be taking another "Top Chef" aficionado with me. They have beer-battered bacon! The Kitchen is open daily at 2pm until at least 10pm weekdays, and on Saturday and Sunday 12pm until... On a side note, this is a prime spot for people watching and they have cheap beer to boot. read more

There's only one guy that takes your orders , cooks and serve the food. It's a cash only place which is fine. Walk into Three Parkside, and it feels a little bit like a grungy bar that plays Velvet Underground classics and that's its bread and butter. But is so much more than that. First off, the bar itself has a special feeling, great drinks, and the music is great. Don't be fooled by the dimly lit entrance. Next, as for the food, you walk through the bar to order over a counter In a semi-outdoor courtyard. They have a staple menu of 10 or so sandwiches, and they all look and sound great. I ordered the Bahn Mi sandwich, and it was excellent, and came with great fries. I used to like Thee Parkside. It fed my dive bar fetish while letting me listen to live music ranging from "OK" all the way down to music so bad it would make Jesus slit his wrists (if they weren't already nailed down). But the point is it didn't matter to me. I like live music, cheap beer, and hot tattooed chicks. When I was here, I was at peace. But last time they got all shady on me. I rolled over for a going away shindig and we were there early, like 6pm. I had called ahead and they said "Yea, there is live music tonight with cover but if you're already in, then you're in". Sweet, sounded like a plan. So imagine the shock I was in when the guy at the door walks over and says "yo, shows about to come on so everyone here needs to fork over $10". Are you kidding me? There were about 15 of us there at this point. How many people were there NOT with our party, ready to rock for what I assume was going to be a suck ass show? About 7. A fifth grader can do the math. Scaring away 15 booze guzzling customers who have been eating and drinking for hours is just poor business. Especially since I called ahead and got the all clear earlier. I shared my dismay with the sexy tatted bartender of the night and she fully agreed. Hope you enjoyed your 7 customers that night Parkside, we took our asses up the block and blew another $400 easy. - Locale Destination - It's on 17th and Wisconsin St in Potrero Hill, SF. Inside is very dark, old, small and run-down. Very casual dive bar (I'm very nice to say that..). Slow service. Bar seemed sort of cool. They have shows, photobooth, ping pong table (outside) etc. Cash only! ATM inside. Street parking. - Gluttony Expedition - Prohibition Ale: It was a bitter with a very light body. I'm not a fan of this type of beer. - Conqueror's Deduction - People here were all "price conscious" - everyone asked the bartender "which one was the cheapest beer?" It's kinda weird to see that. The draft was $6, which was very expensive for this type of run-down dive bar WITHOUT a cool atmosphere - especially in SF. Since you can get $4 draft at most places that offer "happy hour" with a better atmosphere, so why do you come this kind of crappy dive bar???? Especially you can find a bar everywhere in SF... My boy Julian and I rolled to Thee Parkside after Yelps Big Daddy Party. Its a nice Lo Key Bar. They usually have live bands playing ,but didn't that night. Julian and I rolled up to the Bar . The Bar Mistress was quite nice and friendly. We ordered a few beers and chilled out. They were playing the Movie Friday on the TV. Coolness. The Cool thing about Thee Parkside is that they also have a built in Snack Bar. I ordered a Cubano Sammich and Garlic Fries . My Boy Julian ordered Garlic Fries and Fried Pickles. They had our food to us in 15 minutes and it was quite Yummy. I will definitely return and catch a show. read more
